Basic Arithmancy Lesson 1 As you step through the Arithmancy classroom doors, you see wooden desks and chairs arranged in a circle. Professor Shackleton has provided a number of cushions in a myriad of colors and textures that are stacked by the door for you to choose from to match your comfort and liking. Two walls are filled with thick wooden shelves, filled with a seemingly endless number of Arithmancy texts and the occasional Ancient Runes and Divination reference. The other two walls of the room are covered in framed pictures and posters of a very old man doing mathematical calculations, a map of the Mediterranean, a witch carrying a large wooden number seven, a chart converting letters to numbers, and many more pictures with a number at the top and people exhibiting various qualities below. When you look to the front of the room, you see a tall, blonde-haired woman in powder blue knee-length robes sitting behind a desk made of dark angelique wood. On the desk is a small placard reading "Professor Macadrian A. Shackleton - Arithmancy," as well as a small stack of thin, leather-bound booklets, an assortment of papers and quills, several copies of the class textbook, and a small pouch that she keeps very close by her left hand. She smiles welcomingly at you as you enter the classroom and makes a small gesture for you to take a seat in one of the many desks in the circle. OOC: This lesson is for first, second, and third years ONLY. Any students in fourth year and above who post will be dismissed. |
Natka timidly walked through the large doorway of the Arithmacy classroom, her eyes opening a bit wider as she realised she was the first student to arrive. Trying to distract herself, Natka looked around her, once more in awe at the sheer size of every room and doorway in the castle. All the doorways in Hogwarts were huge, and she had always found that a bit intimidating - especially now, after such a long absence from the caslte. She had forgotten there was so much space here. "Good morning, Professor Shackleton," the girl smiled at her teacher, who was sitting behind her desk, facing the doorway. "I hope your summer was good?" Natka righted her bag on her shoulder and walked over to the desks, which she only just noticed, were arrange in a circle. Her eyebrows raised slightly at this peculiar arrangement, she nevertheless put her bag down and took her seat behind an empty desk, waiting for the rest of the class. |
Cam walked into the classroom and peeked his head in. Yup. He walked in and grabbed one of the cushions by the door. Weeird. A deep breath came out of his mouth while he tried to maintain that concentrating face. Personally he wasn't the best at numbers and all. The seats were in the form of a circle? More weirder. It must be an interesting lesson then. He power-walked to one seat and waved at the professor. The classroom looked so classy-like, kinda. "Hi Professor Shackleton," he said and waved his hand. |
John walked into the classroom and smiled he couldn't believe it was time for his first class at hogwarts. He looked around the room and smiled when he saw the Professor. "Hello Professor." He looked at the name plate and saw the Professor name "Hello Professor Shackleton." He hoped that she didn't mind him talking to her after all he was just trying to be friendly. He thought about what to do next. In the end he decided to sit down on the front row of the class. |
Sakura walked through the door of the Arithmancy classroom, quickly grabbing a green cushion she walked to a desk and sat down, before putting her bag on the ground next to her. She was slightly nervous as this would be her first lesson, but that's life for you. Thats when Sakura noticed that she was sitting next to John. She whispered a quiet hello. Not sure of the reception she would get before turning back to the front of the classroom. |
Sasori walked into the room and sat in a chair. She said "Hello, Professor Sheckleton." before she started reviewing the textbook. |
Jillian walked inside the Arithmancy classroom her mind determined in doing one thing: earn back the lost points. "Good day, Professor!" she greeted as she selected a seat somewhere near the front. Yes, front seats were vital when trying to earn points. One had to make sure that one's mind doesn't drift off to elsewhere. Arithmancy. Okay, so not her strongest subject but giving it up was NOT an option. Trying would be best, especially when there's a new crazed-psycho Staff member determined to take off points. Jillian sighed softy. And she thought Trel was bad! |
Shana Walked through the door abit nervous because this is her first lesson she wa trying to perswade herself hat it would be ok.She wet and sat in the middle of the classroom by herself. She saw Sakura and smiled and said hello Hey Sakura. Shana also saw Nancy and Ruby walk through the door and she waved at them both. |
Ruby walked in and saw John Sakura and Shana she smiled and waved at them all she took a seat near Sakura |
Nia entered the classroom, a smile on a face. She'd really enjoyed last night's uninterupted sleep, and consequently was feeling pretty jolly. Ah, to be away from baby brothers - and twin brothers for that matter. Taking a blue fluffy cushion from the pile, she scanned the room to see if the aforementioned twin was here. So far, so good. "Morning Professor," she said as she walked past her desk, before heading over to her fellow Ravenclaw second year, Natka. "Heya," she said softly, as she started to unpack her quill and parchment. |
Nancy cheerfully made her way into the Arithmancy Classroom for her first lesson this term. Finally a possibility to gain some points for Slytherin. Giving Professor Shackleton a small smile and a friendly "Good day, Professor. I hope you had a nice summer." Nancy made her way to a desk in the very front of the classroom and plopped down into her seat ready for the class to start. |

Entering the classroom hesitantly she was met by the welcoming smile of a blond haired professor. Smiling back nervously Ameera took a cushion from beside the door looked around. The classroom was so big and very unlike the room she had been tutored in back home. Clutching the cushion Ameera waited for a moment and let a few other students pass her before taking the courage to advance. Seeing a girl that looked nice she walked over to her saying "Umm, Hello! Do you mind if i sit next to you?"Looking up the professor she smiled saying "Good morning, Professor Shackelton!" It was good thing that Ameera had memorized the different professors names. |
Natka looked up, and smiled at the sight of her fellow second year, Nia. "Hi," she replied. "How are you?" she asked quietly, making conversation while waiting for other students to enter. She followed Nia's example, and withdrew her textbook from her bag, along with some parchment and a quill. She preferred to be prepared to work once the lesson began. Natka heard a voice behind her, and turned to see a girl smiling at her. "Yes, of course, sit down," Natka replied pleasantly. "I'm Natka, a Revanclaw second-year," she introduced herself. |
Damian walked into the room and went to a free place. "Good monring Professor!" said he and took a seat. |
Via entered the room and saw there were already a lot of students inside. Her eyes searched for a place to stay on and spotted an empty seat besdie Nancy, the girl she had met at the bathroom. It was a good start, she thought. She wasn't good at ARithmancy and she always needs help for it. She greeted the Professor, "Good day Professor Schakleton," she said with a smile and headed for her chosen place. She wanted to excel with it this term. |
Wiggling on her cushion until she was perfectly comfortable, Nia grinned. "I'm feeling amazing, best night's sleep I've had in at least three weeks." She finished getting out her things, and flicked back her hair. "How about you? Good night?" She stroked her quill against her chin thoughtfully, glancing up at the Professor in case the lesson was about to start. |
Miranda peeked her head around the doorframe. This seemed to be the right classroom. This seemed like a very cozy place to have classes, and the desks were in a circle. How fun! "Good day professor Shackleton!" She said, walking inside the classroom. It was a nice sight seeing her HoH there, alive and moving and not behind a weird glass-mirror thing. Looking around, she didnt see anyone she recognized, which was sort of scary but nice as you got to meet new people. Grabbing a pretty blue cushion, Miranda made her way to one of the desks to wait for the class to begin. |

Ameera waited for a while, but when the Ravenclaw girl didn't answer she made her way over to an empty desk next to a Hufflepuff girl. Taking a seat she pulled out all her supplies for the class. Then Ameera sat back and waited for the lesson to begin. Feeling unsure of how to act. |

She turned her head as discreetly as possible, trying to see who it was. "Hello!" Miranda smiled at the girl, "Are you good at Arithmancy?" this was a rather odd question to ask, but she thought it would make the conversation rolling. |

Natka's eyes followed Nia's and rested a moment on their professor. "To be honest, I'm sort of worried about this lesson, I'm not the best with numbers..." she said quietly to her fellow Ravenclaw. Quote:
Then again, perhaps the girl simply hadn't heard here; the noise of chairs scratching along the stone floor as they were moved around, and students chatting all around them, could have drowned out her voice. Natka knew that she often spoke too quietly anyway. |
Chrisitne walked into the class room, excited that classes had finally started. As she walked by the professors desk she smiled at her and said Good morning Professor. she continued to enter the room and took a seat in the back of the class. |
Damian looked arround and felt a little bit unsure. He bit on his quill and thought how the Professor is. *She look friendly. I hope she is friendly* |
Professor Shackleton greeted each student who entered her room and watched them carefully as they took their seats. Choosing a seat within a circle can tell alot about a person, though you would expect that since there was no end and no beginning that it wouldn't make a difference. When the class was seated, Professor Shackleton spoke clearly as she walked from her desk to the center of the circle, "Good morning and welcome to Basic Arithmancy. Returning students will recognize that the structure of this course has changed a bit. I have split the Arithmancy course into two sections - Basic and Advanced. Basic Arithmancy will be for first, second, and third years, while Advanced will be for the upper years. In this class, there is a lot to learn and it is hard work, but it can be very informative and fun if you put in the effort. And with that said, let's get started." Professor Shackleton rotated on the spot and explained, "We are going to spend this term focusing on the origins of Arithmancy and the Energies of the numbers we work so intimately with. There is a great deal of information in your textbook, but we will only be working with chapters one through five this term. And for today's lesson, we will be working with chapters one and two. But you should know that the textbook doesn't contain all the information you will be responsible for. Anything we cover in class is fair game for homework and the final. Understood?" |
