| | Advanced Arithmancy Lesson 1
As you step through the Arithmancy classroom doors, you see wooden desks and chairs arranged in a circle. Professor Shackleton has provided a number of cushions in a myriad of colors and textures that are stacked by the door for you to choose from to match your comfort and liking. Two walls are filled with thick wooden shelves, filled with a seemingly endless number of Arithmancy texts and the occasional Ancient Runes and Divination reference. The other two walls of the room are covered in framed pictures and posters of a very old man doing mathematical calculations, a map of the Mediterranean, a witch carrying a large wooden number seven, a chart converting letters to numbers, and many more pictures with a number at the top and people exhibiting various qualities below.
When you look to the front of the room, you see a tall, blonde-haired woman in emerald green knee-length robes sitting behind a desk made of dark angelique wood. On the desk is a small placard reading "Professor Macadrian A. Shackleton - Arithmancy," as well as a small stack of thin, leather-bound booklets, an assortment of papers and quills, several copies of the class textbook, and a small pouch that she keeps very close by her left hand. She smiles welcomingly at you as you enter the classroom and makes a small gesture for you to take a seat in one of the many desks in the circle. OOC: This lesson is for fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh years ONLY. Any students in first, second, or third year who post in this thread will be dismissed. |

But now I'd like you also to consider the flipside of that optimism, how these traits might lead my sisters and I to a different, perhaps negative, quality within ourselves." Anna smiled and nodded once at the professor when she thanked the group for doing a nice job. Anna considered what the professor had asked and then raised her hand once again. "As for Isabella, she may have a hard time managing her own health and happiness if she's too busy trying to help others. It doesn't seem that she would have a lot of time to find her own happiness, due to the amount of time and energy she puts into others," she said. "What she's doing for others and for the environment is wonderful, but I think she's paying a heavy price for it."

Livvy thought for a while. Negativity? Why dwell on the negativity? She glanced towards the Grey Lady. It was just a tad bit.. no REALLY... awkward taking class with a ghost. Livvy raised her hand, her eyes on the Grey Lady and then on to the professor. "Well... leadership can play into stubborness. And so can individuality. With such traits, your sister might be more stubborn and unwilling to accept other ideas." "Without accepting other ideas, she might be overlooking something. Say if she were to... I don't know... build a boat. She's thinking of one idea... while others are suggesting another idea. But individuality is more of an independent trait so it's possible that she won't consider their idea, believing that her way is better.. when possibly their way is in a way better than hers. People might not like her for such stubborness and the boat might take longer to make or collapse."
Livvy thought about what she said and hoped that it made sense. She had been pretty much rambling.

"And with that exercise coming to an end, I would say that this lesson, too, has reached its conclusion! I will post the homework outside my office very soon and it will be due in one week's time. Thank you all for your hard work today."
Professor Shackleton added, "Oh, fifth and seventh years, don't forget about the classroom for your OWLs and NEWTs. Come by anytime! And no time is too soon to begin studying!"

Arithmancy was certainly an interesting subject. He'd have to find out if he got any sort of extra points for having so many blooming letters in his name.

Karma smiled as the lesson ended. She was excited, and then there was the homework. It shouldn't be too hard for her.
She gathered her things and then proceeded to place them in her bag. She brushed her hair out of her face and looked over at Copernicus. "Good job today. That was excellent."

"A rational answer from an intelligent woman," the Grey Lady replied and nodded her head in approval. She appeared to stand and floated to the front of the room.

Whew. That was over. She had been quite nervous. Class was finally over. But it was rather fun. Livvy gathered her stuff and smiled at the professor. "Thanks Professor. See you later," she said and walked by Copernicus and Karma, giving them a slight wave.

"Pardon me Professor, and Miss Ravenclaw, I don't want to interrupt, but would it be possible for me to ask a question about this lesson and how it relates to another class I'm taking?" Tobi asked mekely. "I can wait."

She nodded at the Gryffindor. "Of course you should speak with your professor regarding matters of acquiring knowledge. Perhaps another can enlighten me on the stones. Good day." The Grey Lady turned and floated through the doorway.

He wanted to ask her to stay but she was gone before he could get the words out. Tobi whirled back to face Professor Shackleton, horror and shame colouring his usually carefree face. "I'm sorry! Professor I really am! I didn't mean imply my questions were more important they really weren't. I just- I - I'm really sorry." You big moron! The return of Ghosts takes precedent ALWAYS. And you leave them to talk to whoever they want. Don't you butt in next time!

I doubt any of the professors could help her with the composition of the stones she's interested in. I mean there isn't a class on minerology at Hogwarts. Could the Grey Lady be interested in somthing else than what the stones are made of? What would make a stone special? What could one of the professor here at Hogwarts tell the Grey Lady about the stones she's interested in? Abby stares off into space for a moment. "Ancient Runes!!! The stones must have Runes engraved on them!!! A ghost can't possess human objects, so the stones must be somewhere within Hogwarts or on the grounds. I have to tell Ray about this!!" |

Professor Shackleton added, "Oh, fifth and seventh years, don't forget about the classroom for your OWLs and NEWTs. Come by anytime! And no time is too soon to begin studying!" Ludo was a bit surprised to see the Grey Lady join the close of their lesson. But then again, his House Ghost always seemed to be where she could learn something, so his surprise subsided.
As Professor Shackelton dismissed them, he collected his things to leave..still a bit confused on converting letters to their numerical value.
He shrugged. He could figure it out later.

His surprise returned quickly as a younger girl shouted something out of nowhere. Whatever it was...it seemed important to her.

Dom burst out before he could help himself.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Zahra Kettleburn Seventh Year | Inside Kitty | HIT ENTER | UNO Queen Hot. Copernicus had TOTALLY forgotten to include that Professor Macadrian was HOT for a teacher in his number describing of her. If Plymouth had been even remotely paying attention, taking notes, any good at math, and/or reading his text - he'd have aced a chance to describe the teacher. Copernicus did pretty good, but he left so much unsaid.
And speaking of hot.... Plymouth got to watch Anna talk to the class. Mmm. Pretty. She was so pretty. Did everyone notice her? They really must. How could they not? Plymouth had never met a girl like her (his mom didn't count).
So, job well done. Plymouth made a mental recap of the class:
Points earned: 0
Points lost: 0
Verbal reprimands: 1
Flirtatious facial winks/smiles from teacher: 2 (maybe 2.5)
Punishment for broom thieving: violent flogging, possible death. never try
Pet's death: Very bad
And then a lot about some numbers.
Not a bad day's work, Plymouth thought.
"Toodaloo, Professor Mac! I learned a ton, all thanks to you!" A lie, but he meant well. |

Dominic was still confused by this mention of the stones, but simply nodded when the girl spoke again. "Oh well then, perhaps we ought to speak with the Ancient Runes Professor? That would be ... if we find these stones, but we have no idea what these stones even look like, do we? Or where they might be?"

| Shoe!Girl │ Rebel Ravie │ Confundus Queen │ RP Addict Elizabeth gathered her books and everything as Professor Shackleton declared the lesson over, mentally making a note to check for the homework soon. At which point she heard people discussing the Grey Lady and her comments about stones, and flashed back to the common room. "Rose Quartz," she murmured. If Ludo heard, or anyone else who had been in the common room then, they'd know what she meant, but others might not. But she didn't really care.
Shaking her head a little, she looked back up at the professor and smiled brightly. "That was a great class, Professor," she said as she stood up, slinging her school bag over her shoulder, and then left.
