| | Advanced Arithmancy Lesson 1
As you step through the Arithmancy classroom doors, you see wooden desks and chairs arranged in a circle. Professor Shackleton has provided a number of cushions in a myriad of colors and textures that are stacked by the door for you to choose from to match your comfort and liking. Two walls are filled with thick wooden shelves, filled with a seemingly endless number of Arithmancy texts and the occasional Ancient Runes and Divination reference. The other two walls of the room are covered in framed pictures and posters of a very old man doing mathematical calculations, a map of the Mediterranean, a witch carrying a large wooden number seven, a chart converting letters to numbers, and many more pictures with a number at the top and people exhibiting various qualities below.
When you look to the front of the room, you see a tall, blonde-haired woman in emerald green knee-length robes sitting behind a desk made of dark angelique wood. On the desk is a small placard reading "Professor Macadrian A. Shackleton - Arithmancy," as well as a small stack of thin, leather-bound booklets, an assortment of papers and quills, several copies of the class textbook, and a small pouch that she keeps very close by her left hand. She smiles welcomingly at you as you enter the classroom and makes a small gesture for you to take a seat in one of the many desks in the circle. OOC: This lesson is for fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh years ONLY. Any students in first, second, or third year who post in this thread will be dismissed. |

Barry nodded and started writing: If such a thing happened I would be filled up with anger straight away and think that the freind is not a freind at all because they don`t take things without asking. I would feel like going to where ever the person is and jinxing them
There completley true and straight to the point. He waited for other people to write then perhaps he would read it out loud

Pausing for a moment behind Copernicus, Professor Shackleton gave them the first situation, "You return to your dormitory after an exhausting lesson in the Herbology Greenhouses. All you want to do is sleep, but you notice a note sitting upon your bed. Sitting down on the edge of the mattress, you read that one of your dorm mates borrowed your new broom without asking permission first. What is your initial reaction?" Ludo focused back on Professor Shackleton as the lesson moved on. He pondered the scenario for a moment. He scribbled an answer down and raised his hand. "Professor? I'm not much of a flyer, but if that happened I think my initial thought would be 'What is the condition of my broom in the hands of my dorm mate?'"
He felt a bit odd air quoting, but it was the only way he could think to get his response across.

Karma pondered for a moment as she got her parchment out. Borrowed new broom without permission, she jotted down, and then raised her hand for a few moments before speaking. "Well I for one would wonder why they took mine in the first place," Karma said. "Depending on what I needed more, my broom or sleep, my first reaction would be to make sure to talk to them about it later, and sleep. But, if I really needed my broom, my second reaction to that would be to precisely put my things away, and then head off to find my dorm mate."
She scribbled down on her paper what she had said out loud. It was hard to decide what to do for her in that case, as she didn't get mad easily.

At the scenario, Elizabeth flipped open her journal to a clean page and picked up her quill. She was happy she had at least earned a point for Ravenclaw with her answer, but now she had to bring her attention to this. Looking down at the page after thinking for a few seconds, she started to write. Quote:

Hogwarts RPG Name: Rickey Hampton Fifth Year | Curt grinned in enjoyment as he earned a couple points for his house. This year was the year. As Shackleton paced around the circle he followed her closely and listened intently.
Oh boy, his heartrate actually did increase a bit when she finished. Quidditch obsessed Curt would be fumed, absolutely LIVID if someone used his broom without asking. His broom was like a child, that he tended to regularly and even talked to if he was really that bored. His initial reaction would definitely be to grab a school broom and hunt him down in the air, absolutely.
Grabbing his quill, he wrote the following out on his parchment, Quote:

I’m not kidding Professor, anyone that knows me at all knows not to touch my broom, my keeper gloves, or my snitch that I caught in my fifth year. Off limits.

Abby gets out her parchment, ink, and quill. She things for a moment. What would I do if that happened to me. I guess first I would feel weary. I mean I'm exhausted. All I want to do is go to bed, and now I have a new problem to deal with. Then I would probably get angry because the person borrowed it without permission, and now I'm going to have to go and find him. By the time I find this so called friend, I'll be ready to take his head off. Definitely not a pretty picture. Abby writes her thoughts down. |

A small smile crept to Evangeline's lips as Professor Shackleton presented the first situation. Bwahahaha. That was an easy one. Still smiling, she grabbed her quill and began writing down what her reaction would be. Considering I don't exactly own any broom, I'd simply laugh at the girls' feeble attempt to amuse me and just go to sleep.
Hehe.

| Wowza! Borrowing her broom without her permssion? No one in their right mind would just grab her broom, for crying out loud. People knew better than that. Or at least they should, according to her.
Willow raised her hand, thinking that sharing what her initial reaction would be with the rest of the class would avoid any future and possible misunderstandings. "I would incredibly. . . upset, professor." Talk about the understatement of the century. Such a common word as upset did not even begin to cover how she would feel if someone decided to borrow her broom. "I believe that taking people's belongings without their permission is not a very advisable thing to do. It's just a profund lack of respect." It would be ridiculously stupid to take her broom, for Melin's sake. Only a mentally unstable person would do such a thing.

But she had DEFINITELY winked at him. OOohhhh boy! Plymouth was looking around to see if anyone else had seen.
He got no congratulations. Pfft. Not even from Copernicus (who looked gassy).
Oh well. At least Plymouth had seen. Seen and noted. In his own notes he wrote, "I find that after digging in dirt and planting stuff I'm usually pretty dirty. So, first I'd have to go shower. The hot water would probably help me think about what to do about the missing broom. Clearly, I don't own a broom, but someone thinks I do. Therefore the REAL owner of the broom would be mad at ME, even though I'd be clearly innocent. Would consider sleeping somewhere else for safety and/or just asking Copernicus what to do.
PS: Would lecture friend with new broom about the benefits of buying used, too." |

I wonder what happened to make him have a sudden hairy growth problem? Guy probably brewed the wrong potion in potions class. Abby smiles at that thought. |

Cale looked down at his parchment as he pondered what to write. He was very tempted to say that he would slug whoever took it, but that would be improper and unprefectly. Instead, he thought about it for a few more minutes before finally scribbling something down on his paper: Quote:
I'd most likely be really angry with the culprit at first, so I'd probably have to take a minute or two to cool down and to stop myself from storming down there and throwing a Quaffle at him. After I calmed down a bit I'd head down to the pitch and confront the person face to face. I'd explain how I paid a lot for my broom and it is very important to me, and if he had just asked before taking it I would have most likely let him borrow it. Then I'd probably stay down there while he finished up whatever he was doing to make sure no damage (or, hopefully, no FURTHER damage) would be done to my broom.

Agie cleared her throat dramatically and said. "Well, I'd be angry and want my broom back. Sooo, I'd hunt the so called friend down and pull the broom away from them, or get them off the broom by what ever means necessary. By using accio, or a curse or like what Curt wrote, using a bludger to knock them off. And if there is just ONE scratch, then they better run. Of course my broom would then be kept locked up at all times." That would show them. "The person wont be able to sit on a broom for the rest of the year when I'm finished with them."

Emiliano listened to the professor and wrote down immediately how he would react. Of course, he was not so creative when it got to be angry or upset about someone taking his possessions, well, not all of them. His guitar would be...the only thing he would never borrow. Quote:

That was all he wrote and he felt rather pleased he would never over-react over the situation. At least for now. Though he had not finished while his classmates explained, he could listen. Hogwarts RPG Name: *whistle* | NeeNee Omniscient Omnipotent Pie Maker Tobi blushed. This was a common occurance. Expressing himself wasn't his stong suit. He and words... they weren't so goodly. He raised a hand again. "Actually ma'am that's not strictly true. I'd act promptly- I'd yell at myself in my head quite a lot and right away, because my first thought would be that I'd lost it, but when I found out that it hadn't just disappeared into Oblivion or wherever, I wouldn't be mad. My housemates aren't all that mean spirited, I don't think they'd take my things unless they felt they needed them. It doesn't bother me to share them in that case, though I'd prefer they ask first, I'm not always readily at hand."
Tobi squirmed a little, "Does that make any sense?"
It didn't occur to Tobi to include any of his kitchen implements among his 'Things' none of them were at Hogwarts, but if someone were ever to borrow those, he'd probably have spontaneously combusted.

But that was not the kind of answer she should give a professor. For all she knew Professor Shackleton might take her seriously --which would be a very wise thing to do-- and then keep an eye on her. Shackleton was a very nice woman, and she was clearly very clever, too, but the last thing the girl wanted was to be watched like a five year old kid by a professor.
"I would force the person to go and see Professor Vindictus with me, and while we get there, I would yell at them not to touch my broom ever again." Not in that precise order, but that could work, too. The slapping part would definitely come first, though.
In reality, Willow would slap the person, yell, drag them to Professor's Vindictus office, yell again while they made their way to that place, and then feel quite pleased while Professor Vindictus scold the person.

Lyra agreed with Agie. No one ever touched her broom...unless it was Agie. She giggled under her breath then pressed her lips together. This was the most participation she had ever heard out of the girl. Maybe she should add, And turn their hair a rainbow of colors using a sticking charm to seal the deal. |

I would just state, forcefully, the fact that the next time I would break her fingers. No emotion...just fact. Getting all emotional about it is a waste of energy. That's why I'd go to sleep instead of getting all upset.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Zahra Kettleburn Seventh Year | Inside Kitty | HIT ENTER | UNO Queen What in the name of Merlin's lost toe was Copernicus on about? Plymouth had this idea that Copernicus just liked to say big and important words in his know-it-all-voice, but didn't actually ever SAY anything. He was just pretending to say something important. Boring.
Plymouth looked around to all of his violent classmates. He raised his hand," I would just like to say that I don't need a number to know that stealing and/or borrowing brooms in this school is a serious hazard to one's health. If I learn nothing else, Professor," Plymouth rolled her title off his tongue, "I'm glad you taught me that lesson. Points to you, ma'am."
Plymouth then went to looking over Copernicus's shoulder to see what he'd written. |
