Advanced Arithmancy Lesson 1

As you step through the Arithmancy classroom doors, you see wooden desks and chairs arranged in a circle. Professor Shackleton has provided a number of cushions in a myriad of colors and textures that are stacked by the door for you to choose from to match your comfort and liking. Two walls are filled with thick wooden shelves, filled with a seemingly endless number of Arithmancy texts and the occasional Ancient Runes and Divination reference. The other two walls of the room are covered in framed pictures and posters of a very old man doing mathematical calculations, a map of the Mediterranean, a witch carrying a large wooden number seven, a chart converting letters to numbers, and many more pictures with a number at the top and people exhibiting various qualities below.

When you look to the front of the room, you see a tall, blonde-haired woman in emerald green knee-length robes sitting behind a desk made of dark angelique wood. On the desk is a small placard reading "Professor Macadrian A. Shackleton - Arithmancy," as well as a small stack of thin, leather-bound booklets, an assortment of papers and quills, several copies of the class textbook, and a small pouch that she keeps very close by her left hand. She smiles welcomingly at you as you enter the classroom and makes a small gesture for you to take a seat in one of the many desks in the circle.

OOC: This lesson is for fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh years ONLY. Any students in first, second, or third year who post in this thread will be dismissed.

Camira walked into the classroom happily, looking forward to her first class of the year. "Hullo, Professor", she said amicably, finding a seat in the circle. "How was your summer? I hope you found it enjoyable.

After finding a seat, she quickly pulled out her parchment, ink, and textbook. She'd memorized the chapters they would be going over, but better safe than sorry.

Barry was early. Nice and early. He walked in said "Hello professer" and then took a seat as from the professer as possible. He was hopeless at Arithmacy. Yes he was.

Curt Diggory takes a step into his favorite class with a bounce in his step, and his face lit up when he saw Shackleton in good health. Thank merlin! He walked up to her desk from a brief moment and grinned at her. “Good to see your Professor! You feeling a lot better this year?” He asked, with an eyebrow half raised. He had loads to learn this year, especially if Quidditch failed. He wanted to be a curse breaker, and the former curse breaker herself would be a huge asset to his knowledge.

Cassirin 01-27-2009 10:35 PM

Copernicus entered the classroom and seated himself in the middle of the room. Not so close so as to look over eager, but not in the back to look as if he was dismissive of the subject. "Good day to you, Professor."

SweetAussie 01-27-2009 10:37 PM

Agie stepped into the classroom with no enthusiasm. This wasn't one of her favourite classes, but she remembered Shackleton and wondered if she remembered her. "Hey Professor Shackleton!" She said, taking a seat in the back row. If she fell asleep, maybe no one would notice.

Tobi had ran from Gryffindor Tower like a mad harpy was on his tail. It wasn't that far from the truth. It was the last place he had seen Aggie, and she was in a mood with him. He bolted into the classroom and clutched at his chest.

"Hi Professor!" he wheezed, taking his seat. "How are you today?"

With a large grin upon her face, Professor Shackleton replied, "Oh, I had a lovely summer, dear. Very very restful. I had the opportunity to spend a good deal of time with friends and family, which is always nice. I hope yours was enjoyable, as well."

Professor Shackleton chuckled softly. She was surprised by the level of concern for her well-being after last term, though she really ought to have expected it after her behaviour before the summer holidays. What a mess! "I'm feeling much better, Mr. Diggory. Thank you for inquiring. How were your holidays?"

Spotting an unfamiliar face, Professor Shackleton replied simply, "And a good day to you, as well!" She always liked to see fresh faces taking up her subject, especially if they were willing to learn.

It was an excited Evangeline that finally made her way up to the Arithmancy classroom, eager for the one of her favourite lessons. Her grin widened when she walked in and saw Shackleton looking perfectly healthy. YAY!! "Hello, Professor! I believe you had a nice summer?" She asked brightly, sitting in one of the desks on the circle before pulling her textbook and opening it in the right chapters. Weee!

Flipping her curtain of dark hair the to the back, Willow entered the Arithmancy classroom, for the first Arithmancy lesson of the term. Granted, this was not one of her favourite classes, but that didn't mean she would just stop attending to it.

"Hello, Professor Shackleton. Having a nice day, I hope?" Greeted Willow politely, taking seat in the middle of the classroom.

Anna Banana 01-27-2009 10:43 PM

Anna smiled as she headed into the Arithmancy classroom. Professor Shackleton had been quite ill last term, and Anna had been really worried that she wouldn't be able to ever teach at Hogwarts again. Thankfully, the professor had healed over the summer, and she was now back and better than ever! Anna grabbed a rose pink cushion, smiled politely at Professor Shackleton, and then found a seat next to Copernicus. As soon as she was settled, she sat quietly and waited for the lesson to begin.

Curt gave the Professor a nod, thanks goodness. His Holidays? They were actually quite great! Spend some time in Hawaii, and a lot of time with his big family… which he rarely got to due since his six older sisters had already graduated and were off living their own lives. “That’s great to hear!” Curt said, with a big smile and all. “Summer went very well. Me and a few other classmates went over to the States, well, Hawaii more spacifically. It was good fun.” He said, as he shifted his Arithmancy book to the other side.

“I hope your summer was good as well.” He said with a noteworthy nod as he found his seat next to a certain Gryffindor.

It was Agie Brandywine, Curt looked to his right and gave her a small grin. "Hey Agie." He, dropping his heavy textbook on his desk. Curt gave another look up to Professor Shackleton and then back to Agie, "You missed a ton last year." He said, voice dropping to a low whisper, "A lot of us didn't think Shackleton was going to back it back this year." Good thing she had.

Qaz found a seat in the back of the classroom. This may be one of her favorite classes, but she still preferred sitting in the back. People behind her made her nervous.

She pulled out parchment, quill and textbook....

Reese walked into the Arithmancy classroom and smiled at Professor Shackleton."Hello,Professor.How are you today?"she asked with a smile. She looked at all the desks deciding which to sit in.

Plymouth rolled into class looking a little disheveled (but, when did he not?). He looked up at the teacher - paused to really look when he realized how hot she was - then strolled over to sit near Copernicus. "Would it be inappropriate to point out that our teacher is a ten?" Plymouth pointed it out anyway. "Leagues better than that old grumpy one."

It did not escape his notice that one Anna was also in this class.

Karma's excitement for her class showed on her face when she walked into the Arithmancy classroom. She had her book in her arms with the rest of her supplies in her bag. Spotting the professor, she walked over to the desk.

"Good day, Professor," she said, smiling and nodding her head. "I'm excited for the lesson."

Spotting a familiar face, Karma walked over next to the desk Copernicus was sitting in.

"Is this seat taken?"

Elizabeth walked into Arithmancy, excited for what they were supposed to be discussing in class. As she picked up a pale blue cushion at the door, she smiled at the professor. "Hi Professor Shackleton. It's really a beautiful day out, isn't it?"

As she then walked further in to find a seat in the circle, she saw several students already there: Agie, Anna, Curt, Camira, Qaz . . . Smiling at those she knew, she found a seat and slid into it, then taking her textbook and journal out to place on the desk with a quill, ready for when class started.

Entering the classroom with her Arithmancy journal already pulled out, Savannah greeted the Hufflepuff Head of House, "Hello Professor, having a good day I hope?" with a warm smile. Once she took her place at her usual desk, Vannah set her bag at her feet and pulled out her self-inking quill and parchment as well as textbook, ready for class to begin.

"No, have a seat," Copernicus said quietly, gesturing to the chair. He gave Plymouth a sideways look and small grin. Plymouth liked girls the way some people liked art. He appreciated looking at them, measuring them, dissecting the way they were, and then moving on. Copernicus looked at girls the way a Muggle scientist with arachnophobia would study spiders. Absolute fascination and terror at the same time.

It did not escape his notice that one Anna was also in this class.

Anna watched Plymouth as he walked into class, glanced at the professor (in true-Plymouth fashion), and then moved to sit near Copernicus...which meant that he was now near her. Anna giggled softly and playfully rolled her eyes when Plymouth remarked that Professor Shackleton was a ten. When she thought that he was looking her way, Anna smiled a little bigger and waved at Plymouth. This should be a fun class.

Meh Reh 01-27-2009 10:57 PM

Karma saw Copernicus give Plymouth that little look, and set her textbook down in front of her, with some parchment and her quill.

"How are you dashing gentlemen doing today?"

Torchwood 01-27-2009 10:57 PM

Deciding that she may as well be comfortable, Qaz went and got a cushion....a nice royal blue one...went back to her seat and got a bit more comfy.

'The cushions are a nice touch, Professor.'

Agie was a little surprised that Anna has just ignored her but that turned into a sly smile when she had company. "Hey, Curtis" She winked, and then eyed his massive textbook. Woahh...Agie didn't bring hers. Looks like she'd steal share with Curt. "What happened?" She whispered back, glancing at Shackleton.

Curt shook his head as she said his whole name, usually when he was being called that he was in trouble. What happened. Oh, nothing good. Not to mention all the creepy room stuff. He’d try his hardest not to confused the Gryffindor too much. “She got really, really sick. Almost died, too, it was bad news.” He said, giving Agie a wary grin.

Looking around the room, he couldn’t quite see Lyra. Where was that girl. He gave Agie an inquisitive look, “Where is your partner in crime?” He said, they were usually attatched at the hip.

Yaya 01-27-2009 11:04 PM

Emiliano quietly stepped into the classroom and bowed his head to the professor. "Good day, Professor..." He greeted and quickly went to sit down, ready for class.
