Freya felt Helena look to her, and turned around. 'In your hand.' She mouthed silently again, showing Helena the orb in her own left hand before she looked to her notes, looking for anything else she should add.

Freya raised her hand, suddenly having a thought, "Professor, is there a way to move the orb elsewhere? Have it stationary so that a witch or wizard is able to have both hands free? Or is this spell strictly for ones' hand? Just out of curiosity."

She just shook her head at him amusedly and put the light in her hands out. Then she muttered the spell again silently. The spell didn't work. She sighed loudly.

Daphne grabbed her wand from the desk and started practising the motions for the spell. "Swish, flick, and point," she said aloud, waving her wand, repeating the motions. Per usual, she did those for a longer time than most, wanting to cast the spell the best she could.

She closed her eyes and pictured the light in her hands. A small, luminous ball, hovering in her left hand, was the goal. It was advice her mum gave when little Daphne told her she had problems with some spell casting. Her weakness seemed to be unfortunate genes, passed from her mother and her mediocre school marks and weak spells. But Daphne wanted to be a powerful witch, and if it meant she needed to work twice as hard, so be it.

She opened her eyes, pointed her wand at her left hand and did one final swish, flick, and point. Taking a deep breath, she said in a strong and stern voice, "Sinistra Lumina!". There was a sharp cracking noise that penetrated the air. Then, it started small, a tiny speck of light hovered above her hand wit. Slowly it grew to the size of a golf ball, settling into the size of a tennis ball. The sphere was dull, a bronze colour, softly glowing. That, too, strengthened into a bright, gold, luminous object. Daphne smiled, even though it wasn't the brightest in the room. But that didn't matter, because with practise it would get larger and brighter. After all, it was only her first attempt.

As Amy heard the girls question she looked up, first glancing at the girl and then at the Professor. That is a very good question, she thought to herself. As she pondered the question, her hand began the movements and she said quietly, "Sinistra Lumina." Looking down in shock she sit there holding her fist tightly while noticing the little bit of glow.

Irritated after watching Maddox do so well, Nicholai took a fair few attempts.
"Sinistra Lumina!" with the accompanying wand movements eventually yielded a fairly dim orb in his hand, just light enough to read by at night time. After a bit it went out and he shrugged; he'd practice later.

Rapunzel turned her blond head slowly to blink at the Slytherin. Sure she was just being er, encouraging...but Rapunzel was sinking into a bad mood now. "Right. Easy for you to say."

She harrumphed to herself and rolled up her sleeves, going for another try with the spell. Swish. Flick. POINT.

"Sinistra Lumina!" she said sternly, pointing at her hand this time. A bright ball of flame burst there, tickling her palm just a smidgen. "HEY! I got IT!" Rapunzel grinned and danced around, the fire still in her palm. She closed her hand to put it out, and then opened her hand again and admired it. She was still too proud of herself. "COOL."

Freya didn't have to turn around again to know what happened. She smiled to herself as she continued to wait for the professors response, making her orb vary in it's brightness. 'Knew she'd get it.'

Maddox looked over at nico and grinned. "Troubles Nico?" He asked in a triumphant tone as he kept closing his hand and opening it and making the light reappear in his hand.

Cale yawned and looked up at where Anna was sitting. He was pretttyyyyyyy sure he had gotten the spell before she did. Hehe. He practiced the spell again, smiling with pride as he held another orb in his hand. "Sinistra Lumina," he muttered, practicing it again. And again, and again, and again. He sighed as he watched the ball glow in his palm. Ok, he had gotten the spell, and now he was bored.

He practiced the spell again, watching only half heartedly as he continued to ace the spell each time. He looked around to see if the Professor looked like she was gonna move on.

"My aren't we the cocky one." Nicholai grinned; usually it was Nico pulling the unbearably cocky act. He watched Maddox in amusement and shrugged.

Mari looked up from her first slightly successful attempt at performing Sinistra Lumina non-verbally to see Nico. He looked a bit irked about the whole class, but even so, she was trying to avoid being distracted by him again. That and the whole photo debacle...well, it made her feel slightly embarrassed every time she was around him.

She wanted to help him though, as this was another of her favored subjects, yet she thought he looked like he didn't really want the help.

So, Mari turned to her own practicing again, keeping the light longer with each try to see how much it would take her to concentrate to keep it up.

Maddox smiled as he heard her sigh in defeat. He knew she was trying to do it non-verbally like he was, like he taught her. But she wouldnt get it on the first try.



Maddox grinned at Nico's comment and said, "Rarely, but someones got to be. Usually its you." He gave him a questioning look. He wondered what was up, but wasnt going to ask in the middle of class. He continued to close his hand and make the light flash back into it.

She sighed again and said, "why do you have to be so good at magic?" Though she was frustrated, there was amusement in her voice.

Glancing around, everyone seemed to perfection the spell, just in less than three tries. Melinda decided to try it herself. She took her wand, right hand and then did the Swish, Flick and Point as she casted the spell, "Sinistra Lumina..." She said, quite clear she heard and instantly she felt and heard the crack on her hand. It just felt ticklish. She smiled wide and saw as the glim of light showed on her left hand.

"Just don't want to make you look bad." Nicholai grinned. Maddox had obviously noticed something was up. Not good. He thought he'd been hiding it well, but maybe not having a go at Cale was a fairly good sign. Nicholai shot a smile toward Mari, still feeling bad about the whole...thing.

Nicholai put the unwanted thoughts out of his head and focussed. He could do non-verbals. He rubbed at his ring for a moment before opening his eyes, directing his wand in the swish flick and point and non-verbally casting the spell. The orb flared brightly in his hand for a few seconds before it disappeared and Nicholai shrugged at Maddox.

He really would have to practice later.

Qaz did several dry runs before trying for real...

Swish, Flick, Point....again and again...

Finally satisfied, she attempted the real thing, Swish, Flick, Point Sinistra Lumina

Amazing...a little ball of light appeared in her hand.

Qaz stared at in in wonder....

"Unfortunetly, this particular spell is made only for the hand, hence the name. But there are others you may use, such as the Bluebell Flame, which we covered last year, or Lumos." was the response the echoed around the room.

"Well practice a bit more and then I will assign homework." Alex grinned, this had to be the first class she'd taught at Hogwarts where everything went smoothly according to plan. As soon as the thought left her head she accidentally tripped over the cat carrier and the door swung open as Alex went flying. A small black nose peeked around the corner of the box and sniffed the air cautiously. A second later, a small-ish skunk waddled out and blinked at the class.

Mari looked over at Nico again, and she returned the quick smile he gave her. At least he was still her friend, even though she might have inadvertently caused him some problems.

She then looked at her hand again, practicing the spell non-verbally as much as she could. It helped her to concentrate on something else other than...well, the obvious.

Then she heard a gasp and she quickly focused her attentions on the front of the class. Some furry little animal had made it's way out of the cage that had been quiet all throughout class. Mari peered closer and as she discovered what it was, she recoiled and gasped herself. The last thing she needed was to stink to high heaven, she thought with a horrified expression on her face. Thankfully she wasn't that close to the front of the class...but those things could spray!

Asteira looked over at mari who seemed to be focused on something else. She smiled at mari as she then asked her." Hows it going?" she actually meant more than that but she would bug her more about it later." Having any success with the spell?" she was finished with her wand at the moment so she moved to twist her hair and use it to keep her hair up." Anything exciting?" just as she asked she saw the professor do a nose dive. Or something like it. she looked to see something coming out of the cage." Oh man...Those things smell bad." she commented mainly to herself.

Qaz stiffled a laugh as the Professor tripped. A skunk....who on earth has a pet skunk...I do hope that it's been de-scented.

Freya, having witnessed the whole thing, stood up and made her way over to her professor, "Professor are you alright?" She asked, holding out her hand offering help. She looked down at the small animal making it's way out of it's crate. Freya gasped with delight, "Aww, he's gorgeous!" She exclaimed, making sure not to be too threatening, and knowing they hated to be cornered, much like any animal, wild or not.

Cale blinked in shock as a skunk proceeded to crawl out of the little carrier thing that the Professor had had at the front of the room. "Erm, Professor, why is there a skunk coming out of that cat holder...thing?" he asked, remembering his manners and raising a hand. If that thing came anywhere near him, he'd be on top of the desk in an instant, no doubt

Maddox stiffled a chuckled and whispered behind him, "I dont know just naturally talented." He shrugged and had a huge satisfied grin on his face.



Maddox chuckled at that comment and said, "You wish Toussaint." He knew something was up after Nico started rubbing his ring. He wasnt sure what the ring was for, but whenever he was upset about something he always rubbed it.


Mads just shook his head, "Out of practice Nico? And i thought you were gifted." He grinned.

Mari nodded as Asteira spoke to her. " Yes, I'm doing well, but um...there's a skunk in the class." She said. " And no..nothing that exciting." She said, still keeping her eyes on the front of the class. Then she realized the professor had fallen and she ventured to ask after her. " Professor Pierce, are you alright? and you do realize that there's a rather smelly creature in here now?" She said, still keeping her distance.

She was just just about to squisssh, flick and point .. when something happened. "Wahoo.. Professor be careful," she almost called out but the professor already went flying off.

Her brownish eyes widened- as she stared at the mysterious box opened. EEP! .. Something peeeked out. Sarah gasped at the sight.. "A Skunk," It was gonna smell bad now.

Seeing how noone helped the Professor and now was staring at the Skunk, Sarah hurried her way to the Professor and held out out a hand toward the Professor,. "Here Professor let me help you,"
