Nathaniel didn't think that he needed anything from this store but he walked in anyways. Where was everyone he thought to himself. He looked around for a while and chose to get a Leather-bound Journal, a sketchbook,Galen's Gala of Gryffindors Getup, and a color changing quill. With the few things he had he walked up to the counter.

Mariel bounded into the shop in search of quills. She loved her self-inking quills and was quickly running out seeing as the tips kept breaking off. Strange. She couldn't be writing that much, could she? She was so absorbed in her quill-hunting mission that she failed to look up to see if any other customers were in the store.
Walking over to the display of quills, Mariel noticed a sign that read, 'Buy 5 and get 1 free!'. Shrugging at the thought of a decent deal, she picked up 6 of the self-inking quills. The other types just seemed silly or unnecessary. Mariel walked a bit around the store. Ink and parchment she seemed to have enough of. What about Stationary Sets? Mariel wasn't convinced until her eyes fell on Relena's Roaming Ravenclaws Rising. Swelling with Ravenclaw pride, she picked up that very set and headed up to the counter with her purchases.
The familiar face at the counter made her stop in her tracks. A devious grin spread to her face as she realized it was the Gryffindor from her flying lesson. She didn't know his name so her little nickname would suffice for now. Approaching him, she wondered if he would be as easily annoyed outside of class or, worse yet, as annoying outside of class. Still grinning, Mariel said cheerfully as she leaned her arm on the counter, "Ello Gryffie Boy. Manage to lose any more points?"

Ahh, the joy of schoolwork meant using quill after quill and parchment after parchment. And Rapunzel was considering buying a journal, so why not head to Scrivenshaft's?
She strolled in the door and started browsing the quills...whoa there were so many! How to pick just one? Ay yi yi....

Looking at her he continued "Actually I gained twenty points for doing my Muggle Studies homework. He did seem so easily annoyed outside of class as well. And here she was being so friendly... "Am I always like what, exactly?" Mariel looked at him quizzically. She couldn't quite figure out what he was so angry about. "Just why are you yelling? I mean, I was trying to be friendly, coming over here and saying hello." Friendliness certainly was not her strong suit although she would make occassional attempts... in her own way of course. Mariel thought for a moment. "It's not about the points is it? Surely you can't still be upset over my comment earlier... Although I do find it quite interesting that you know the exact total of all the House points, even I don't know that." She watched him curiously for a moment. Mariel was one to easily get over things, usually anyway, so it was beyond her understanding that anyone could continue to be upset over one silly comment she made previously.
Then he said something to make her snicker. "Little Miss Perfect huh?" Mariel thought for a moment, then nodded. Of course he wouldn't know her name either. "I kinda like that. You may continue to call me that if I can keep calling you Gryffie Boy... provided you lose the sarcasm." Mariel raised her eyebrow speculatively at him.

It was nice in here. He didn't feel like making a scene and upsetting the shop keeper. He pushed up his glasses and retorted, "My dear girl I didn't take it as you being nice come up and asking me if I'd lost anymore points. You chose to make a few snide remarks on a very bad day. Not your fault of course.. but it still happened.. Nathaniel was sizing the girl up. Father would absolutely beat him if he knew that Nate was talking to a girl in this manner. "Look, I'm sorry I've been a jerk. I've been really ticked off today. Okay?" he said with a serious face and continued "You can call me Gryffie Boy if you like but for the record my name is Nathaniel. he stuck his left hand out to shake hers.

Mariel stared at the boy incredulously as he spoke and had to stifle giggles as this eleven year old, she guessed, sounded very much like her father, calling her my dear girl. Regaining her composure, she leaned her arm back on the counter and tilted her head. "You're right, maybe it wasn't very nice, but I was just joking." She shrugged, then added a little sheepishly, "A little conversation starter?" Mariel felt a little badly. She hardly knew this boy at all, she didn't know her ribbing would hurt his feelings. "Listen, I apologize if my remarks made your bad day worse, certainly not my intention." Gah! Was she actually apologizing? So unlike her. Luckily this Gryffie caught her in a weak moment. "It's just that I saw you arguing with my friend and I was afraid that she would lose points the same way you did. That, and it seems like every class I'm in, people act like it's social hour. Just me being a studious Ravenclaw, I guess." She sighed as she pulled out her money bag and turned her attention to pulling out the correct amount for her purchases.
Mariel looked back up at him when he apologized, gave him a small smile and nodded. "Okay. Sorry you're having such a bad day." She grinned when he held out his hand. He did have some manners. Shaking his hand, she said, "Good to meet you Nathaniel, I'm Mariel. Although I may still call you Gryffie Boy and feel free to call me Little Miss Perfect. I think it suits me." Why oh why did his name have to be Nathaniel? She actually liked that name. It would be so much easier to call him Gryffie Boy if he had gotten stuck with a weird name. Oh well, she was sure she could work his fun nickname in somewhere and it just made it easier that he agreed to being called that.

Kairi walked into Scriven Shaft's Quill shop, her shoulder-length red hair tied up in a loose pony-tail and her baggy jeans dragging along the floor, her wand tucked in her pocket. She'd never been one for writing, but she'd promised her sister that she'd buy her some new quills, or otherwise her sister would do something very bad and blame it on her. She sighed, her eyes were a purply-grey, not the usaul vibrant purple that normally filled her eyes now that she was going out with Chris. She bent down to look at a Self-Inking Quill, and then felt familiar vibrations in the ground, "Hey, Nate," she said with a smile and a small wave, then she felt somebody elses vibrations, a girl, they'd never talked, but Kairi had seen her around school, she was good friends with Jenn as well, and she was talking to Nate.

"Truths?" he asked with a grin. "It's nice to meet you. Feel free to call me the nick name you have been. So do you like flying? My father taught me. He's kinda big deal." he winked at the girl. He totally acted like he was older than eleven years old. Oh well. He is who he is. The Ravenclaw seemed okay. Maybe they were both just having bad days. Where was the shop keeper?!
Nate looked in the nearest window and fixed his hair.

Mariel managed a smile, shrugged, and said, "Sure, why not?" when Nathaniel mentioned a truce. He did seem like a decent person now that they weren't trading snarky remarks. So, conversation... Mariel figured that that would be okay to partake in. "I love flying," she said with a grin. "I've been doing it my whole life. I had thought about not taking flying lessons. I figured they were more for kids who've never been on a broom, but when I heard Professor Vindictus was teaching it, I knew I had to take it. He's something of a Quidditch idol, you know," she added with a knowing look. "Speaking of, I tried out for my House's Quidditch team this week. Tryouts were really hard though, playing against older kids and ones that have already played on the team. I think I did ok, but I don't know if I'll make the team." Mariel sighed. She really loved Quidditch and would love nothing more than to play on a real team. She paused and gave Nathaniel an appraising look. "Did you try out for Gryffindor? I noticed that you were a fairly decent flier in class... when you weren't busy being arrogant," she added playfully, with a smirk. "A big deal?" Mariel asked with eyebrows raised. She inwardly groaned as that phrase set off a bit of a warning in her head. Was he now going to spout off about how important his family was because he's related to so-and-so and how she was supposed to be so impressed? She had come across too many kids like that; it seemed like half the school was related to someone they thought was famous or important and they expected everyone around them to bow down before them, or so she thought. Mariel silently prayed that Nathaniel wouldn't now do the same, now that they were having a civil conversation. She might not be in control of her words, if that were the case. Ok, maybe she was reacting a little too quickly and he wouldn't be like that at all. She would just listen to what he had to say first.
Mariel did her best to stifle her chuckling as she spotted Nathaniel checking his hair in the window. Could be as obsessed with his hair as I am about mine? She thought that was pretty funny. She was quickly snapped out of her reverie at the sound of a girl saying 'Hey, Nate.' Oh, she must mean Nathaniel. Mariel looked back over at the boy and subtly shook her head to herself. Nathaniel suited him better, she thought. Nathaniel or Gryffie Boy, not Nate, at least not to her. She figured he must not have heard her since they were talking. "Um... friend of yours?" she asked, subtly gesturing to the young girl behind them.

I want to focus on my studies, actually." he said sound way more dorkier than really was. "I only came to the lesson to fly. I didn't come here to learn. Since we can't have our own brooms.. which by the way is not cool at at!" he said with a frown. "I was totally joking about father being a big deal. He just played professionally for the Falmouth Falcons..." he said trailing off. He wasn't trying to brag at all he was just saying. "Flying is in my blood. Father and my sister both played at Hogwarts." he said thinking about the flying he'd learned from his father and older sister. Why wasn't his hair being nice today?! he wondered as he heard Kairi call him. "Oh hey!" he said to her.
He leaned closer to his new friend "Yea she's my friend and she's really cool. She's blind but can see stuff from vibrations.

Livvy walked into the shop and glanced around. She spotted Mariel with a boy and Kairi. Geesh. Was everyone getting together with some guy. Livvy held back a laugh as she approached Mariel. "Hey Mariel. Kairi. Who's this?" she asked, smiling at them. The boy seemed rather familiar.

| fish_kid; prongs1295; DogsPajamas Unforgivably Cursed | adultescent "Oh, that's actually a good reason," Mariel said in response to Nathaniel's remark about focusing on studies. That almost sounds like something a Ravenclaw would say, she thought, before getting annoyed at herself for thinking in such stereotypes. She hated immediately being thought of as a bookworm just because of her sorting, even if she was. Anyway, she was a little impressed that he at least tried to be a good student; she didn't know him well enough to know if he actually was. "Next year, I expect?" Mariel asked with an inquisitive look.
Her face lit up. "So you come from a family of Quidditch fanatics too? That's really cool that your Dad played professionally, the Falcons are a decent team too. I have an aunt that played for the Holyhead Harpies, well, Great Aunt, I think. Anyway it was a long time ago. My father and both my sisters played at Hogwarts too. None of them played professionally though. I do love the pick-up games that my sisters and I play at home. I guess that's why I thought I'd be good enough to play on a team this year." Who knew they actually had something in common? Mariel was overjoyed to talk to someone else about Quidditch other than her own family. Everyone else she tried to talk to either looked at her like she was completely mental or, worse, hardly knew a thing about the game, and still looked at her like she was mental.
Mariel smiled at Nathaniel's friend and simply said, "Hello," still not knowing her name. She looked at her appraisingly before decided that she must have seen her at flying class, then turned back to look at Nathaniel quizzically when he mentioned about her sight. Seeing things through vibrations. Mariel had never heard of such a thing before. Curious.
Mariel's attention was once again diverted when she heard a familiar voice approaching the counter. "Hey, Liv," she grinned at her fellow housemate. And apparently Livvy was friends with the other girl, as she called her Kairi. To answer her question, Mariel gestured to the boy next to her and said, "This is Nathaniel. He was in our flying class." She did not, however, feel the need to add the fact that she met him by telling him to shut up and him yelling right back at her.

"I suppose maybe next year. Are you really into your studies?" he asked. I assumed a lot of Ravenclaws were. Gryffies were what brave? he thought to himself. Nathaniel looked into the window again and saw that weird blue streak in his hair again. Where did that come from?! he thought again. "Yea, father was a chaser and my sister who was in Ravenclaw was a beater. She's really tough." he said laughing as he thought about all the times they rough housed. "Unlike my father and my sister I observe things. I pay attention to everything. I like playing seeker." Nate was happy to be talking about Qudditch.
Nate looked over at the girl "hello.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Bettie Monroe Slytherin First Year | Our gal Sherlock Mystie could restock a few school supplies, so she headed in Scrivenshaft's quill shop to see what she could find. She wondered around the shop. Came upon the quills. Seeing the sign 'Buy 5 and get one free' she decided to buy a yellow, green, pink, purple, blue quills and the color changing quill.
Lets see I also can us some ink and a new journal she thought. She head over to the ink and picked up some black, green and red bottles of ink. Then went over where the journals are. 'A sketchbook would work for what I want it for' she thought.
She looked around some more not finding any thing else she wanted she payed for her stuff and out to get some candy.

Livvy smiled at Mariel. "You rascal, you seemed to be gone a lot lately," she said, teasingly. Then elbowed her playfully. Livvy smiled at Nathaniel. "Hi... I'm Livvy," she said.

Livvy smiled. "I'm doing great. Thank you," she said and then looked at Nathaniel with a hard stare. "Please don't come to such assumptions. But glad to know it," Livvy said, politely. What a nice guy, Livvy thought, wryly.

After stuffing all of her candy in her small bag, she stepped inside the store. She thought she might need a new quill and definately some more parchment.
After seeing all the differnt parchment the store was selling, she got confused...Isnt there just one normal parchment she sighed which one was for ordinary school homework? |

Mariel nodded at Nathaniel. "Yes, I suppose I am really into my studies. Although some of the classes I'm taking are a bit difficult. Are you taking Arithmancy? I don't remember seeing you in class... Anyway, I'm having a tough time of that one. I just finished my homework, but it hasn't been graded yet so I'm not sure how well I've done. I guess it's a bit ambitious of me to be taking so many classes and hope to play Quidditch..." she trailed off looking a bit thoughtful.
She tilted her head as she looked up at him. "Oh, your sister was in Ravenclaw?" she asked brightly. There was that strange House pride feeling again. "And the rest of your family too? Or were they Gryffies like you? Most of my family was in Slytherin, except my mum, so it was a bit of a surprise for Daddy when I got sorted into Ravenclaw." To say the least. "Well, I hope you make your House team next year. Seekers are the best fliers, so good luck."
Mariel turned with surprise as Livvy nudged her and looked at her not completely understanding what she meant. Gone a lot lately? Mariel shrugged before saying, "I suppose. I've had a lot of homework lately, so I've mostly been taking care of that in the library or outside when it's a nice day. That and going to lessons, so I haven't been around the common room much."
Mariel narrowed her eyes at Nathaniel as it was her turn to look at someone like they were completely mental. Where did that comment come from? She certainly hoped Livvy hadn't thought that. For Merlin's sake, she was only twelve. She had only just gotten past the boys are icky stage and was now firmly planted in the boys are silly and weird stage. And, yeah, Mariel thought this one was a little strange like most boys she had met, a little more so now, but she still found him fun to talk to, especially when Quidditch was involved. Besides she was talking to this boy for all of five minutes, surely no one in this store thought she liked him like that. "Relax, Nathaniel, I'm sure she wasn't impling anything like that." She turned back to Livvy just in time to hear her agree.
Glancing back at Nathaniel she looked at him curiously as she took a moment to take in his appearance. "Umm... what's going on with your hair?"

So I'm not taking it. I really enjoy Herbology,Muggle studies and such. I can't wait for potions, transfiguration and DADA".he said as he fiddled with the bracelet he was wearing. "Yea, my sister is an amazing witch. She's one of the few that were in Ravenclaw. She lives in the States with her husband and such.... I really miss her. My father is a fellow Gryffie. I hope that I can make the House team next year... but who knows if they will need a seeker.. All of the other positions sounded dull to him... well except Beaters.
Nate didn't think he was sounding mental. He saw the look Mariel gave him. "I didn't mean anything by me saying I was with Sophia. I didn't mean to hurt your feelings. You're a pretty girl." he said hoping not to sound like anymore of a mental case than before.
Nate jammed his hand into his hair. "I have NO idea! It's been changing weird colors this week and It's NEVER done this before. It's really freaking me out". Nate had never heard of any one having this happen to them before. He was weirded out but didn't know who to go to about it.

Nate jammed his hand into his hair. "I have NO idea! It's been changing weird colors this week and It's NEVER done this before. It's really freaking me out". Nate had never heard of any one having this happen to them before. He was weirded out but didn't know who to go to about it. " I don't blame you, Arithmancy is quite difficult, but I do like to challenge myself. Charms is more my thing." Mariel frowned a bit as Nathaniel named his favorite classes. "I was a bit lost in the Herbology lesson, but I plan on studying my notes to do much better in the next lesson. And Muggle Studies... Not taking that one. I'd be hopelessly lost there. But the other three you mentioned do sound interesting, especially Potions. I'm really looking forward to that one."
Mariel looked up with interest as he mentioned his sister. "Have you visited her in the States? I've never been there. Actually this is the furthest I've been away from home." Not really homesick though. More of an observation.
She then gave him a knowing look, as if she were the expert on Quidditch. "Not that I have much experience, but from the tryouts I went to, it seems as if they retry the whole team every year. So the seeker this year, might not be the seeker next year." She shrugged. "You never know. Me, personally, I'd like to play chaser. Beater sounds fun too, although I'm not sure I'm built for that, but I think I like the idea of hitting things," she added with a bit of a smirk.
Did he just call her pretty? That was a bit unexpected. Although she figured that he was just trying to be nice after the whole weird girlfriend topic got started. Completely unnecessary, but she still loved compliments. "Oh, thanks. No, you didn't hurt my feelings at all," she said with slight surprise. "I'm not interested in you that way anyway. I'm really not looking for that kind of thing right now. I hope I'm not being too blunt. I don't mean to be rude." Which was true, this time. She did have a way with her blunt honesty that often came across as rude and often did not care one way or another, but for some reason she found that she could actually have a decent conversation with this boy and didn't want him upset with her again. "Actually that part of the conversation is a little silly and beginning to make me uncomfortable, so let's talk about something else... like Quidditch, school, or your hair."
Squinting her eyes, she gave Nathaniel a considering look. "I kinda like you in blue," she teased, "Shows a bit of Ravenclaw pride, yeah?" She had to stifle her giggles when she saw that he didn't find his condition all that amusing. "Maybe someone played a prank on you?" she offered. "Have you seen the nurse about it? Maybe she could help... or at least tell you what's going on there."

Maybe she could help... or at least tell you what's going on there." Nathaniel looked at her as she talked about classes. "Oh I enjoy a nice challenge. I'm just useless at math. Do you have any idea when Potions is starting?" He enjoyed mixing things together to make new and interesting substances. "Muggle Studies really isn't that hard. You just have to know the culture to a degree, and study on from there. But, I guess it helps to have muggles in your family in the first place."
He thought about how his mother was a muggle, and how he had gained much experience from having the best of both worlds in his blood and life. His sister had also married a muggle, which was what brought her to the States in the first place. "Yes, we visit her often. I usually spend plenty of time there in the summer. Many times, we'll go travel the country, seeing landmarks of the US and such. It really is a beautiful country, despite its politics. But lets not get into that part of the conversation right now." Nathaniel giggled a little under his breath at the last statement. "That's really the furthest I've been away from home, but I really am interested in traveling. Sophia and I have often talked about traveling the world some day, but who knows, we'll do it sooner. Our families have been neighbors for a long time, we grew up together. But all the while, we never knew about each other's wizarding families!! Silly, right?"
Switching up the subject a little, Nathaniel responded with "Oh, yeah, being a beater sounds like a lot of fun. You could hit out your frustration with classes out on the field during practice or games! I can see you as a chaser, though. You seem diligent enough for the part."
Nathaniel said "I don't mind the bluntness. As I mentioned before, Sophia and I really like each other. Nathaniel glanced in the window he was sitting near and did a double-take. He couldn't believe his own eyes, as he looked at his hair, jaw dropping, as it had gone from the small streak of the brilliant, pungent blue, to his entire scalp of hair turning that color. What in the world!? Nathaniel thought to himself, as he brushed his hand through his hair. What will Sophia think?? I'm sure she'll like it, although I'm not sure if I do or not. He wondered if it was a spell or charm one of the older students had looked up in a book and put upon him, he certainly didn't have any enemies to his knowledge. "I'm not the only one seeing this, am I? It is all blue, isn't it?!" Nathaniel nearly yelled at Mariel.
