She said, smiling lightly and laughing just the tiniest bit. She was lying of course. She still felt quite foolish, despite what assurances Asteira had given her. She had no idea what was wrong with her; She wasn't supposed to feel like this about him, it wasn't supposed to still hurt. But it did. She pushed the thoughts away and spoke again. " How do you think you did on the exams?" She asked, looking for a neutral subject to discuss.

As Mari answered her question about if she was okay, Elizabeth studied her closely. The smile and laugh seemd a bit forced, even though the actual answer could have been true. "Exams were pretty stressful," she said, a tiny bit of suspicion in her tone. Something was bothering her friend, and she wasn't sure she wanted to let it slide. But since Mari tried to change the subject, she shrugged. "I hope I did well. I mean, as far as I could remember, I was able to answer everything. But I guess we'll just have to wait until we get our scores," she said, turning entirely toward her. "So what are you going to do over break?," she asked. "Visiting any friends from school?" If she was entirely honest to herself, she had no idea what she was going to do. She should go back home to California, but part of her didn't want to.

Daul entered the Great Hall with her stomach growling. 'Shut up' she mattered under her breath and kept walking towards the Ravenclaw Table. It was more crowded than she had expected. Agh, stop eating my food...
She quickly took a seat without noticing who she was seating next to and inspected the food in front of her. "Dadadadadaa..ahah! Curry! Yes, yes, yes."
As she was munching cheerfully she suddenly stopped to look at those around her. She gave them a suspicious look and ate some more before putting the bowl of curry down.
"Where's the coffee?"she wondered out loud looking for the pot.

Jenn laughed. "Well she's tallish, about 5.4. She has fiery red hair, light colored eyes, and tannish skin. Oh and she can turn into a red fox."she said, smiling. "Does that help?"she asked.

Mariska was grateful that her friend let her obvious lies slide, for the moment anyway. She smiled a little at Elizabeth's answer. " I do too. I'm pretty sure I did really well. Except for Potions, I never do well at that." She said, turning to Elizabeth." I guess we will just have to wait." She said with another small smile. She thought for a moment when Elizabeth inquired to her summer activities and she shrugged. " I suppose I'll see if Asteira wants to visit, as well as you. You two are really the only friends I've made," She said with a little laugh." Well, no, I count Ludo. He's always been nice to me. I haven't seen him around though, lately." She said, a slightly concerned expression on her face. " But...yes. That's probably all I'll be doing, visiting a bit and spending time with my father. My mother...maybe." She said with a little roll of her eyes.

Ryan was jubilantly visiting with his friends and chowing down on the food when Headmistress Rae gave her speech. His mouth, full, dropped. The drumstick in his hand fell with a clatter to his plate. He was in a state of shock. He was paralyzed by it. Rae was leaving. He couldn't believe it. She was the only person Ryan had ever known to run this school, and she did it beautifully. Sure, Hogwarts attracted quite a bit of danger while she was Headmistress, but it was because of her that Hogwarts was still safe.

He had been prepared to break into ruckus applause after the speech as almost always happened, but now all he wanted to do was run up to her and give her a hug.

She glanced up again, piercing the room with a searching look, taking in each face. "I have a letter." From inside her robes, Rae drew a crumpled sheet of paper. Her face was pale, but her voice was steady.

"My dear staff and students,

There is an old saying that Aurors never retire. They simply fight to the death and then stand guard over heaven. The last few years have been a reprieve from my time as an Auror, a chance to rest after the greatest tragedy of my life and a chance to refocus my energy for the greatest cause I could pick up... all of you.

But at the end of the day, I have been fooling myself. Hogwarts is safe. You are safe. It is the world outside of Hogwarts that is fraught with danger, and now that I have made this place safe for you, I must turn to the greater world in my battle against the Dark.

There is a new menace, in a place far from here, and they have asked a select few to come and fight. Professor Lainey and I are leading the team. It was the easiest decision of my life to come work at Hogwarts, and it is the hardest of my life to leave. I have loved my time here and the healing it has brought me, and I carry each of you in my heart. For truly, I am fighting on your behalf.

So I must bid you good bye, not just for the summer, but for longer. I cannot say how long this menace lasts, nor if it will be the last. I can only say that you are the true treasures of Hogwarts and..."

She couldn't finish the letter, so she stuffed the piece of paper back in her pocket and wiped her streaming eyes. Now this was certainly unprofessional, but she couldn't bring herself to care.

Rian turned her head to the Staff table as the Headmistress started to speak. She smiled proudly at the mention of her house, and continued to smile good-naturedly at the mention of Gryffindor. But when Rae started to read the letter, Rian's jaw dropped open with an audible pop!

Headmistress Rae was leaving. She was leaving and Rian had never gotten a chance to meet her. And Rae didn't know when or if she was coming back to Hogwarts...so Rian might never get a chance to meet her.

Rian closed her mouth and dropped her gaze to the table. She quickly picked up a roll and took a bite, not saying anything.

Chris looked down the Ravenclaw table. He saw Jenn and Kairi. He went over to them. "Hey Jenn, and Kairi." He said to them.

Rachel opened her mouth to answer Toshi when the Headmistress stood up, ready to give her end-of-term speech. Rachel mouthed, "Later" to Toshi and settled for listening.
As Headmistress Rae talked, Rachel's expressions went from mildly happy, to very proud, to put off, to confused, to shocked, to tearful. By the end, she had grasped Toshi's hand for support and the tears were flowing freely. She's leaving... "C- Ca- Can yo- you believe this?" she stammered, her voice shaking.
She had always loved their Headmistress. In times of stress, she was always there, and she was kind, supportive and a really fun teacher. This is not fair... my whole world is just turning upside down for the second year in a row! Poor Headmistress Rae... This must be really hard on her. She glanced up and saw her crying, which only confirmed her theory.

Maura reached for the potatoes. She was sad that the year had gone by so quickly. It had all seemed so fast to her. And somehow she figured that the summer would be very long, away from all her friends.

Her hand froze halfway to the dish of potatoes. She looked up at the Headmistress in shock. What? This couldn't be happening. Leaving? But for how long? She put her hand back in her lap, slowly. This must be a dream. that's it. She must be dreaming. Otherwise why would Professor Lainey and Headmistress Rae be leaving?

Kairi grinned at Jenn's mistake, and helped herself to some chips. She popped one into her mouth before asking the correct question. "Are you ready for summer?" she asked with a grin.
