Oh. Wow. Where did that insult come? Gavin was impressed - it was a pretty good one.. for a girl. "Oh look," he sneered. "Little Robot's decided to get tough on me." Leaning forward so his face was inches from hers, he added, "I like when my girls are fiesty." Leaning back, he put his hands behind his head and shrugged. "Hufflepuffs are boring," Gav raised an eyebrow. "And it's obvious I came over for Sammy."

Oh. And now the Slytherin girl talked to him. Great - another girl. Girls should just stay in the kitchens.

"Are you trying to imply something?" Gavin asked with narrowed eyes. Was she saying his first impressions weren't good? What a jerk. "Who are you, anyway?" He asked, rather bluntly.

Melinda nodded. "Yeah...that's my biggest problem...not paying attention and...barely knowing anything..." She said and sighed.
Melinda really hoped to make this one a better one for her own sake, so she could be a great witch, one that deserves that ability given to her.

Jason Potter Weasley 09-25-2008 02:08 AM

Jason walked slowly over to the RavenClaw table. " Hi Melissa and Chris" Jason said to them. Jason back is still slightly hurting from his fall. "Will see you around" Jason told them. Jason would like to talk to Melinda, but there will be another day and time.

Evs and Colle.

Turning back to look at Evolette, the fourteen year old offered her a kind half smile. Wonderful. At least someone one was. Willow had been wonderful a few minutes ago, of course, but since Gavin had decided to delight her with his presence (please note the sarcasm). Hmph. He should have stayed with the Badgers where he belonged.

"Keep your distance," Hissed Willow, shoving him away with one hand. Much too late, for he had already moved it. Ah, well. Surely he had seen her gesture, and he knew that she was not happy with him. At all. Of course Willow had not forgotten their little argument back in the Hogwarts Express. "I am not your girl." Only in his dreams, naturally. His girl... Honestly. He should not hold his breath for that to happen. On second though--he totally should.

Sammmy. Who on earth was that? Oooh. Samsom. Right. Willow still didn't see what was the point on calling someone by their nickname, to be honest. She never had and never will. And of course he would be looking for Samsom; both of them were equally rude. Only difference was, Willow didn't have anything against Samsom Carswell. Gavin on the other hand. . .

Obviously, Gavin had not been pleased with Evolette's answer. If she were on Gavin's shoes, she would not have been, too, but since she wasn't, she could definitely enjoy it. A smirk lingered all over her lips at this. Of course that this smirk vanished as soon as he started to be rude again.

Ah, well. It was none of her business. Surely, Evolette knew how to defend herself.

ooc. Melissa???? *giggles*

Melinda opened her eyes, wider than ever, when she saw Jason, coming around them and saying hi? She didn't know what to say. "Umm...Hey, Jay..." She finally opened her mouth and spoke. She nodded her head to Jason's last comment and looked at Chris.

Evolette shrugged her slim shoulders, crossing her arms across her chest defiantly, she had given him the chance to play nice, but if he wanted to mess with her, she was not going to just sit there and let him.

"I merely suggested that first impressions are not always correct." a smirk pulling at her lips as her eyes gleamed, "But it seems you have proven me wrong. At first impression I concluded that you were nothing but a rude self righteous jerk, and as you continue to speak, you prove that to be true."

This boy did not intimidate her for a second. Sure he was bigger, and he was older, but he was certainly not smarter picking fights with girls. Didn't he know that girls fight dirty? Or perhaps he was simply too stupid to notice. Whatever the case, Evolette did not like him.

She cast a glance at Willow, noting that she was just every bit as annoyed as herself, then turning back to the boy, she regarded him coldly, "I was here first. Go away."

You look like your broom got whacked to pieces with a bludger. Here - have a slice of berry pie. Pie makes everything better." He pushed the pie pan over to the man.

Ryan watched Cale talk with his friends. They seemed to be having a good time, which was nice. Ryan had no intentions of joining them. He just wasn't in the mood.

"No, nothing wrong," Ryan said wearily in response to his prefect friend. "It was just a long, tiring summer. I'm not really in the mood to be cheery right now."

He smiled as the boy slid him some pie. Pie was delicious, so he gladly accepted and dug into it. "Thanks, Cale." Maybe this year wouldn't be as bad as he was making it out to be at the moment. Things would pick up once quidditch season started.

"Erm, what I mean is... err....the possibilities of me seeing that Dark Mar... while flying, is quite nil. It can't happen and it won't!"
She ended in a slightly higher tone, color rising on her cheeks as she almost let another little tidbit of past come out.

Definitely feeling a bit warm now, she undid the clasp on her robe to let some cool air in beneath the heavy woolen garment. "Its a bit warm in here, isn't it?"

Mariel watched Patty with an odd expression. She had no idea what she was on about. Patty seemed awfully flustered and her explanation was only hurting Mariel's brain, so she decided not to give it another thought. Mariel nodded, said, "Ok," and turned back to her food.

Looking up she noticed some sort of commotion across the hall at the table that could only be designated for Gryffindor, Mariel figured, noting the sea of red. Mariel frowned and watched for a few minutes before seeing a familiar face. Bree was sitting there. Mariel squinted her eyes. Bree didn't seem to be part of the commotion, but was in quite close proximity wearing a pained expression.

Mariel glanced at the others sitting close by at her own table. Jenn and Patty seemed to be absorbed in conversations with others, so Mariel figured she could probably leave unnoticed. She decided she just might have to take a walk over to the Gryffindor table to investigate.

Vindictus had been watching the table from a distance and gave up trying to enjoy a meal since he sensed some trouble brewing at the 'Claw table. But then he spotted one person with whom he needed to speak with. "Ryan! Here's your tryout information," he said and handed the clipboard of information to his Quidditch Captain. He noted the tired look in the young man's face and sighed. "Make sure you get some sleep after the feast ends. I'd hate to see you falling asleep in class or on a broomstick."

Nearby, he overheard hostile words being exchanged by several students and glared at them.

She waited as Asteira finally noticed Ludo, then turned back to her as she apologized. "It's okay. I don't know that we would have gotten a lot of time to talk or anything anyway." She shrugged as chess came up. She had never really gotten into chess. But maybe that was because she had never known anyone who had played it before.

As she was asked if it was the green, she laughed. "Yes and no. It identifies you as a member of Slytherin, but doesn't mean anything, really. It's just, some Slytherins get really into their superiority thing, and it reflects badly on others." She presonally had never developed the need to separate people by houses. And then she looked back at Asteira, surprised. "A competition? For points?" She shook her head. "No, I don't think there should be wagers."

She flushed a bit as she could tell her cousin was getting frustrated by her specifying their relationship. "I'm sorry," was all she could get out. She didn't really know why she did it.

She smiled as Mari spoke again, distracting her from her embarrassment. "I guess you will. And yes, it is nice. At least, I know I have someone on my side." Then she waited as Mari spoke to Ludo, but had to interject at the last minute. "Yes, it is always good to have people you know when you're new. I could have used that last term."

Mariska noted that Elizabeth seemed to be embarrassed by something, but being the polite girl she was, she decided to ignore it. She had just finished introducing herself to Ludo when Elizabeth spoke again quickly. Mari was of course nosy, so she had to know what she meant. " Do tell, what happened last term? I understand that the teaching was below par, and that there was some other school, Coopers?" She asked in her only very slightly accented English. She took a sip of the pumpkin juice as she waited, tipping the cup gracefully as she kept her gaze on the other girl. Yet she couldn't help but to overhear the sounds of obvious discord to her left. She looked over briefly and saw another girl glaring up at a large boy, and she smiled. " Oh my, I wonder what's going to happen." She said, looking back to her newfound classmates as her smile widened.

Mari looked over again at Ludo as he seemed to be brought back from some reverie he was in. She giggled slightly and then smiled widely at him. " I'm sure that was pretty embarrassing, and painful as well." She said, watching him for a moment before looking quickly over at the Glaring Girl and the Tall One to see if any new development had taken place.

Ryan had somehow ended up resting his chin on his fist. He was just about to slip into his pie when Professor Vindictus bellowed his name. He immediately perked up at the sound of the man's voice. He was almost sure it was about quidditch, and sure enough, the Head of House handed him his tryout info.

"Thanks, Professor," he said, smiling weakly as he accepted the packet of information. He could feel a big of the vigor returning to his spirit with these papers in hand.

"That's the first thing I'm doing," he added, chuckling. He very much planned on immediately going into the boys' dormitory and crashing on the bed. "Or both," he added as a sidenote/joke, making it a point that both were possible at once in Vidictus's class....not that he planned on either.

"Hey Ludo. I looked for you on the train. Sort of." She laughed. "To be honest, I was bored, and started wondering why I hadn't seen anyone I knew. And then my cat ran off, so I had to chase her down. So it sounds like your ride was somewhat less exciting, or stressful, than mine. However you want to look at it."

She grinned. And then remembered her manners. "Oh!," she turned to Ludo. "Ludo, this is Mari. Mari, Ludo. He's a Ravenclaw like us. We met in Diagon Alley this term. He ran into Asteira and me in Flourish and Blotts." Pretty much literally. But she figured at least now MAri could say she'd met someone else.

Ludo snapped his attention away from the ceiling and back to the table talk. Liz commented on his trip to the school. He grinned, "Yes. Very relaxing. Did you find your cat?"

Asteira asked him about his chess game. "Sadly, I never got the opportunity. It'd be pretty lonely to play against myself. But now that I'm back amongst some Ravenclaws, I might find an opponent. That or Gobstones." He smiled as he thought of secret Gobstones tournaments held by Cooper and Belle teachers last term.
Asteira then mentioned wagers on House Points. It honestly sounded fun.
"Sounds interesting. Although I've been on the short side of earnings in previous terms. So maybe a wager isn't for me."

She then talked about green clothing...
"Green? So are you a Slytherin now?"

Liz was then introducing him to another girl. "Nice to meet you Mari. Yes I really did run into them. Well Asteira at least. Liz just had the pleasure of watching my embarrasment." He flashed another smile, watching them over the top of his goblet as he sipped his drink.
Suddenly he sensed somethng off. Professor Vindictus was now at their table. He looked around at the Ravenclaws, some of which seemed to be arguing. "What's up with them?" he muttered to his group, gesturing to the students.

Vindictus's eyes narrowed a little more as he overheard her hissing remarks. Not good. He was not going to have Ravenclaw start the term off in the negative. "Excuse me, Ryan . . . and Cale." He wanted to talk to his prefect about the plants, but first thing's first.

He walked over to where Willow and two other non-Ravenclaw students were exchanging angry words. "Is there a problem?" Vindictus demanded and folded his arms while waiting for an answer.

Still she'd miss playing it with her sisters at home and no chance of playing while she was in school... Then Mariel had an idea. She leaned close to Jenn and spoke in a low voice. "Since we can't play this year, do you think we could borrow a couple brooms from the school and just play for fun, during our free time I mean?"

Mariel listened vaguely, trying to stay awake, as Jenn listed the classes she was eager to try. Care of Magical Creatures. Mariel hadn't given that one much thought. Could it be useful? Mariel wasn't sure but thought she could check it out. If it proved to be dull or unnecessary Mariel figured she could drop it later. Then she asked her about Dominic.

Mariel frowned slightly. What did she think about Dominic? She hadn't given him any thought since they were on the train. She thought he had been mildly interesting until he proclaimed himself as a book hater. That, Mariel could not comprehend. Of course his explanation was almost amusing. Still, Mariel hated gossip and did not want to indulge in it. Shrugging, she looked back up at Jenn. "Oh, I don't know... He made the train ride somewhat interesting, I guess." She looked around at the faces at their table. "I don't see him here, so I'd assume he didn't get sorted into Ravenclaw."

Jenn smiled mischeviously. "O.K. I but there's a broom cuboard somewhere in this school. We could just 'borrow' one." Jenn said smiling playfully. She couldn't wait till they could fly. Jenn loved the swooshing sound the brooms made.

Jenn frowned. "Well, I guess he did make it interesting. It's just I couldn't stand him at times!" Jenn said angirly. "I'm glad he's not in our house. Not to sound rude though." Jenn said blushing.

Jenn laughed. "I'm doing good. I'll just hope into the festives shall I?" Jenn said giggling.

Oh, great. Now Professor Vindictus had come. This was all Gavin's fault, of course. Why couldn't he just go to his own table? Was it so hard for him to fo that? In the very back of her mind, Willow wondered if Gavin was beginning to stalk her. First on the train, now here. However, stalker or not he was still an idiot.

Shooting one last glare at Gavin, and a somehow apologetic smile to Evolette, Willow smoothed her expression before turning to look at the Head of the House.

Well--he was not looking pleased. Willow was sure of that. And since when had Professor Vindictus been so tall? Gulp. It was probably the fact that she was sitting down and he was standing. Yep, it had to be.

"Good evening, Professor Vindictus," Greeted Willow with a polite nod. "Well, it seems that Gavin forgot where the Hufflepuff table is, sir" She took a deep breath to steady herself a little. Like the chicken she was, Willow was scared. She was no Gryffindor, after all. "I already told him where his table was, but for some reason, he's still here." Yes, go away, Gavin.

Perfect. Just perfect. Now a teacher was involved. And not only a teacher, but the head of the Ravenclaw house. If her father found out about this, she might as well start to consider herself dead.

Patty shrugged her shoulders at the comment. "Its ok, it happened two years ago. The healer at St-Mungos patch me up in a thrice, so it shouldn't have been a big deal. Though my mum thought otherwise..." Parents could be such a pain sometimes. As if she would deliberately run into a wall or some other solid object.

"Is that so? Gavin, are you lost?" Vindictus asked and looked over at the girls who were discussing illegal flying activities. "Brooms are only flown under my supervision, ladies," he said loudly and hoped they would reconsider such nonsense. It'd be a shame for him to take away points from his own house for violating his own rules regarding illegal flying at Hogwarts.

Gavin owed her. He owed her big time. If it weren't for her, Professor Vindictus would have probably taken points from his house--or gave him detention, which was worst. But now that she thought about it, that wasn't such a bad idea. Being on detention might teach him one thing or two about respecting other people's wishes and personal space.

A smirk attempted to made an appearance on her face, but the fourth year quickly controlled this. It was hardly proper to smirk in front of a professor. Actually, it was more like the complete opposite of proper.

"I feel like an owe you an apologize for this, Professor," said Willow with a half smile feeling slightly ashamed, even though the only one that should be apologizing was Gavin, and not her. But she was feeling guilty, and the only she could control this feeling was if an apologize came out of her lips.

Really, Willow was not guilty. Sure the way she had spoken to Gavin had not exactly been polite, but he deserved it, for he had been rude first, calling her snob. So she really wasn't guilty. Not entirely at least.

Patricia hadn't seen the teacher come up to them and flinched visibly. Scrunching her eyes tightly, she almost blurted out a mild curse word. Oh no!, she thought in a sudden panic. Was she in trouble for discussing broom rides? She hung her head down for a moment, thinking quickly about a way out of this pickle.

She turned to the man that stood behind her, sheepish grin on her face, "Yes, sir.." she agreed with a faltering voice, hoping she wouldn't get some kind of punishment for her bravado. "Will we be allowed to fly at certain times....um, professor.." she looked blankly up at him, not knowing his proper name. Saying Hey Mister! was not an option in her mind.

I was speaking to Ryan about Quidditch and overheard several raised voices, which is why I came over," he said calmly and was getting a little impatient at Gavin's silence. "I'll let your captain speak to you on his own time." He sighed. "Gavin, apologize to Willow and then you need to go sit with your own House because I refuse to have any disagreements erupt before the Headmistress delivers her speech."

"Only during Flying Classes, unless you happen to be on your House team," Vindictus answered.

He quickly stood with a yelp and tried to back away from the table, forgetting about the bench completely. Soon there was another crash as Jean Raoul toppled over backward, his feet flailing in the air.

Thud.

Oh great. This was humiliating, and outrageously so. Jean Raoul struggled into a more upright position, though his feet remained on the bench and nearly on the same level as his head. “What ‘appened?” he asked, trying to peer over the top of the table to see what had caused the sudden flood of pumpkin juice over the side. Hopefully spills such as this did not happen at every meal. Or better yet, hopefully they happened less than once a month. Though trusting the French boy’s luck, he would be present every time something spilled.

Drawing his wand, Jean Raoul was finally able to pull his feet off the bench so he could scramble to his feet. He glanced across the table, pleased to see there was not much pumpkin juice to spread in directions other than his own. Which meant less pumpkin juice to clean up. He quickly vanished the remaining pumpkin juice, adding a cleaning spell for extra aid in removing the stickiness, especially from his seat. Then he turned to address the recent arrival, the girl.

“Pardon me, mademoiselle,” the seventh year said calmly, wanting to instill a sense of guilt in the girl without seeming rude. “I hope none of this spilled pumpkin juice reached your robes? That would truly be a tragedy, and I would be moved to punish whoever was responsible for the spill.” Jean Raoul smiled gently, not wanting to seem threatening. After all, this girl probably was a Ravenclaw, so there was a chance she would sense what he was implying.

Turning a light pink Gem glanced down at her mess, hoping no one else had noticed the mishap. The Jewels girl was notorious for her smarts, her energy, and her clumsiness. Her mother told her it was a result of absent mindedness, her daughter's head in the clouds such a majority of the time. Her father told her it was because her feet never worked properly in a result of her odd witch lineage and that all normal girls her age could walk across a flat surface without toppling over (for years she had believed him). She had just begun patting down her unicorn-shaped backpack for her wand when a high pitch yelp sounded, followed by a painful crack. "Whoozah...?" She squealed, startled, searching for the source of the crash. Her head swiveled, at last, down to Jean Raoul, where the Ravvie found the French boy bent in an impressive angle. "How.. bendy..." She murmured, mystified at his acrobatics. After a second of registering, her golden eyes stretched round and she was immediately leaning over him, concerned, pushing gently on one of his feet at an attempt to straighten the Seventh year out. "Are you okay? Do you need a hug? A plaster? I have Crayon ones... Orange, blue..." She cocked her head in a puppy-dog style at his inquiry and swallowed. "I think you fell. From the sky or bench I'm not entirely sure."
She tugged, nervously at the ends of her hair and shrunk at his words, cheeks now a flaming rogue. "I-I-I knocked it over. I'm a wee clutzy. I apologize..." Gem bit her bottom, plump pink lip lightly. She fervently hoped she wouldn't be punished, or anyone else for that matter.
Noticing Professor Vindictus, Gem nodded, if distractedly, towards him in a shy hello.

" Patricia, that is Professor Vindictue, the flying instructor and the referee for Quidditch" Jason told her.
