Default Library Bookshelves

Tall bookshelves are scattered throughout the library, the smooth wood gleaming brightly in the sun that shines in through the stained glass windows. Tens of thousands of books rest upon the shelves, all waiting to be explored by eager minds. They stretch along the walls, filling each shelf and dark corner. A catalogue system has been put in place to ensure that finding and retrieving a book becomes a simple task, for the sheer amount of books can be overwhelming, particularly to the youngest of students.

At the end of the first few bookshelves in the front of the library sits a pedestal. An open book with a soft golden light emitting from it, has been placed upon the pedestal. As you approach the book, you hear a rustling and then a gentle pop. “Come closer, come closer. Don’t be afraid.” A jolly voice speaks.

When you finally do peek into the pages of a book, an elderly gentleman peers out at you, one hand rising to adjust his spectacles. “Now. What book is it that you seek? I can give you a general location or a more specific one if you know the exact title of the book.”

Once you speak your request, the man ponders for a few moments before scribbling on a piece of parchment. Squinting at what he has written, he looks back up and smiles, before speaking the location of the book. “Happy reading!” He exclaims before settling back down into a still flat image.

OOC: Please note that the jolly man is for entertainment purposes only. I will not be RPing him each time a student approaches asking for a book.

" I'm just surprised about this whole thing, it sounds... fishy. I remember one of the students mentioning something about an order last term, but frankly I thought it was someone having a lark and we just kind of... shrugged it off. Tell me what you know about it?"

Will smiled at Camira and nodded, grateful that he had her back. Of course, she was a Slytherin too-- she was probably just as unlikely to want to give The Great And Amazing Treasure to the Gryffs as he was.
"I've pretty much already told you everything," Anna replied. "As far as the Order is concerned, there were eight students, two from each house, that received mysterious letters in the post last term. These letters contained clues, and each clue ended up being a letter. When all the letters were put together, they spelled Hogwarts."

"The headmistress came to talk to my friends and I during one of the many meetings we held. She explained to us that there was once an Order at Hogwarts. There were four, one for each house. The Orders were of the Mane, Fang...and two others representing Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw. Anyway, the headmistress told us about the book that may lead to the treasure, and we're the group that wrote the letter to the Minister of Magic telling him to open up Hogwarts, so we can locate this treasure," Anna explained.

And there were even more people coming. A first year Slytherin boy, who was quite adorable, and some Hufflepuff girl. Great.

Was Will blushing because of her? Her eyes narrowed slightly, but she managed to turn back to drama girl. But then..

She was sitting right next to him. Why did she have to be so bloody close to him? And the giggling. How revolting. She narrowed her eyes further and stared at the girl. I better not see any touching, she thought to herself.

Gah! He was blushing even more now. Thankfully, drama girl started talking. Camira focused on her because she was interested in this treasure and this secret club and because it prevented her from wanting to throttle Huffie girl.

Pull up a chair, they're going to tell us all about it!" Hopefully, anyway. Story time! Still clutching his bookbag on his lap, Will sat back a little and looked at Nico and Anna expectantly.
Seymour perked slightly. "A quest? Here? At Hogwarts? Now? Do we have a map? Or a riddle? Or or or or... something?" He bounced excitedly, grabbing a chair and draaaagging it around to Will's side of the table with a sound that sounded like fingernails on a chalkboard. He plopped down happily between him and some other girl-- he supposed this was Anna, who was supposed to be telling said story. He beamed at Will before turning to face Anna.

Right.

"Oh. HEY!" Punz exclaimed happily as they turned a corner and happened upon the Slytherin Prefect. "Mr. Whistling Muffin Man, right?" She grinned; suddenly, the bookshelves didn't seem so foreboding. Not with all these nice boys around.
He looked from Rapunzel to Will -- they knew each other? Rapunzel had seemed like she hadn't when he was describing him to her at the courtyard. But Mr. Whistling Muffin Man? "Captain, this is Sir Billium Q. Jones, noble knight and Prefect of Slytherin house. The one I was telling you about earlier, ma'am." He smiled brightly at her. Because there were so many Sir Billium Q. Joneses around here.

Jessica wasn't a common presence in the library, but now she really needed a book on western astrology for her divination homework. She began to look on the shelves and read the titles, but after a whole row the girl began to feel dizzy.

She continued browsing, but there was no book in sight that could be useful to her in writing the homework.

Evangeline really couldn't avoid hearing it. Something about an Order, an hunt and a treasure. Oh, she loved it when information came to meet her instead of the other way around. So much easier, really.

Well, she could stand there and eavesdrop or ...

Grabbing the book she had been inspecting, she opened it and pretended to read, not paying attention to where she was going. Which was in direction of the sneaky group. Mwahahaha. She kept on walking until she bumped into someone, and accidentally ... cough ... dropped her book. "Oh, I'm so sorry." She mumbled apologetically, reaching down to pick up her book.

Oh yeah, this was going to be so easy.

Rapunzel was listening to the Gryffindor Prefect explain something about secret societies and maps and using books - all of it was a bit over Punz's head, to be perfectly honest. She was just stifling a yawn when POKE! Something sharp and pointy bumped into her elbow.

"YOW!" Rapunzel exclaimed, perhaps a bit more loudly than was necessary. Rubbing her elbow, she turned to find the perpetrator - I swear to Merlin, if it is Dominic Denton again I will strangle him with my own two h---

But oh. It was...another Prefect? Weird. "Er, it's okay," Punz muttered in reply to her apology for dropping the pointy-edged book. "You've just gotta watch out for those books - they can be mighty dangerous. Lemme tell ya." She nodded at the girl and then turned back to the little treasure group.

"Maybe there's a map hidden in one of the books anyways," Rapunzel suggested to the girl. Probably unlikely, but hey, she was trying. "Where have you looked so far?"

"Did you guys mention a treasure's hunt? WOW! That's so awesome!" Eh. Too obvious, Evangeline. "I mean ..." She started with a cough. "Pretty cool. Like those with hints and clues and maps and stuff?"

Oh yes, play the naive, curious student.

Having been quietly listening as Anna spoke as well as observing an odd little interplay between Camira and Will. After the tarot reading...

Nicholai's eyes flicked to Will's bag where he had placed the odd, supposed Arithmancy book.

"Yes Cela too." Nicholai confirmed to Will that his sister had been involved, knowing that Celandine had wanted Will to know in the first place. Nicholai sat back in his chair and watched as more people appeared. He acknowledged the pretty hufflepuff with a smile before speaking into the silence.

"At the end of the day, Will," Nicholai raised an eyebrow before turning to the other Slytherins, "Camira, Evangeline, Kid," He didn't know the first year, but was amused that he was still going around with the impression that Will was a knight, "You have to take into account that Minister Cooper is a Slytherin. Regardless of what this 'treasure' is, he is exactly ambitious and proud enough to want the glory of finding it for himself." The thought had crossed Nicholai's mind too. And he knew each one of his housemates would have considered the same thing.

Probably not something that had crossed Anna's mind, openly sharing everything with a bunch of Slytherins who's eyes practically sparkled with hunger.

"The thing is, it wasn't just four orders with one for each house, there were five. The other being all four orders together. And it was this fifth order that supposedly left the treasure and I doubt they'd have made it so any one Slytherin, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw or Gryffindor, could find it on their own. Meaning the minister can't find it without the students, and the students," unfortunately, " can't find it without each other."

Waiting for a moment and raking his eyes over those assembled; the girls getting a slightly longer look, Nicholai shrugged and glanced at Anna.

"Kitten and I have passes into the restricted section; we figured that would be a good place to start. At least to narrow it down." Of course, Nico would happily share anything they found with his prefects and Camira, Probably that loyal sidekick of Will's too.

"Maybe whatever we find in the library will lead us to each common room. That would certainly be a way of ensuring each house had to be represented in finding whatever it is we are looking for." And it would be a chance to talk to his housemates and hopefully convince them that Anna was a Gryffindor to be trusted at least enough to play the fact she was a Gryffindor to their advantage.

Between listening to Anna and Nico talk about the treasure and silently cursing Huffie girl in her head, she hadn't even realized that she was glaring at Anna...until know. Oddly enough, the girl flashed her a smile. Gryffindors were so weird sometimes. Nonetheless, she gave the girl a sheepish grin and a little shrug, as to say, 'sorry, not meant for you'.

She listened to Nico with interest. He had some good points. But really, working with Hufflepuffs? At least Anna didn't seem too bad. She'd probably have no problem working with her.

Kitten? She tried hard to contain a smile. She wondered briefly if the two were a couple.

She was wondering about one thing though. "Why would they put clues in places that are easily accessible to anyone at the school? Are we working under the assumption that they intended for this treasure to be found?" Hmm. Maybe working with a group wouldn't be too bad. It was easier to brainstorm for one.

"So you think the clues will be in a book? Maybe one of our textbooks, if students are supposed to find this treasure? And we'll have to use dates and stuff to figure out where to find the map... which will be a map that leads us to the map which leads us to the map that'll lead us to the treasure? And when we get there, we'll have to solve a whole bunch of riddles and battle dragons and the undead and supernatural beings? Or... possibly in a book nobody reads..? Like... a 19th century dictionary or something? Or behind books or on top of bookshelves?" Seymour asked excitedly, looking as though he could practically explode with all this talk of quests and treasure. "Or maybe we'll have to use the books in the library to figure out a code that'll lead us to the book that'll have clues in it which will lead us to the map which will lead us to --" He kept going on for a bit, utterly stoked by this new idea of such a complicated adventure, until a thought came to him.

"What kind of treasure is this, anyhow? Gold? Books? The secret to unlocking the Universe and controlling everything? A mere 1up mushroom? The One Ring?" Sure, it'd be exciting nonetheless... but it would be better if there was a decent reward to it. This sounded like a lot of effort, after all... and while he'd do it either way, as it was his first quest... he was a Slytherin. He wanted something good out of it, not just the experience.

Seymour looked at the girl who had just joined them, nodding vigorously. Not just a treasure hunt... it was better than that! "Yes, ma'am! A quest with hints, and clues, and maps, and riddles, and danger, and adventure, and codes, and treasure and everything epic put into one," he said confidently, grinning. This was a wizarding school... were things like this normal here? Quests and the like?

That was just plain excellent.

Walking around the bookshelves, Marianne was looking for a book about owls. She was planning on buying herself either an owl or a cat next year, but was unsure on which one would be better to buy. She noticed a book concerning owls and took it from the shelf it was on. This looked like it would tell her all she needed to know about the species.

Freya had arrived in the library, eager to finish her tranfiguration homework. She walked through the shelves looking for any book that may be able to help her, even if it would do so in a small way.
Taking several large books from the shelves, Freya made her way over to the study area to take a better look at what she had managed to find.

While still looking for the book, Jess came closer to a group of students. She accidentally heard they were talking about a treasure and remembered the rumours she had heard previously. Therefore, the girl became interested and went a step closer, now just pretending to search a book.

Although she didn't want to intrude, her curiosity was high, so she listened to the discussion.

Marianne returned the book she had just borrowed to the shelf then began looking for transfiguration books. She needed them in order to finish her homework. She noticed a rather old book on one of the shelves and took it down. This looked like a book which would help her to study perfectly.

The library was a scary place to be.. it was all dark, and shadowy and cobwebby and booky and SHUDDER. Heck, Bella even told him that the place was haunted. Being the big, brave young man he was though, Clifford ventured inside and towards the bookshelves.

He was in the library. And he was doing homework.

What in Merlin's name was happening with the world?

Taking a big breath of musty air, Clifford started looking through the books. Ahhh. So he needed book about conjuring solid objects.. This was going to be impossible! Where was Evangeline when you needed her?

Sigh.

A familiar head of dark hair caught his attention and Clifford blinked in surprise. He'd been thinking of her like always and there she was! Like magic! Slightly intrigued Clifford watched the strange, small group for a few moments before restarting his search for that ruddy book.

Heh. It was probably some Prefect meeting or something. Right, cause Will had been there too.

ACK! Why were there so many books? Stoopid library!

Mrs. Alex Turner *asterisks user* Secret Door

No matter how easy Evangeline thought it would be, she just didn’t think it would be this easy. Nevertheless, she acted as if it was nothing and heard intently to Nicholai as he talked about Cooper, a deep frown forming on her forehead. Little did they know. Letting out an ickle sigh, she made sure to memorise everything he was saying about the four … five orders. Eh. She had thought it was just ONE order! Confusing much?

“So that treasure .. whatever it is, in order to be found, it’s necessary to combine the best qualities in each house. Ambition, courage, intelligence and loyalty.”
Combine the best qualities in each house? Now where had she heard that before, eh? “Guys, did you ever thought that this treasure … it might not be anything … material? It might just be house unity or something? All the Houses of Hogwarts united under the same goal? Maybe that Order hopes to join the students like it joins the other four Orders?” It made a bit sense – house unity was like what everybody wanted. Bleh.

Cooper would love it if that was the treasure. Not.

When Nico continued going on about the treasure and moved on to the common rooms, Evangeline had an idea. So, the beginning looked very house-centred, right? “Are there any books here about the four Founders? Biographies and such?” The clues could well be in there. At least she thought so. But of course that looking in the Restricted Section was much more exciting. Eh.

Unless they were looking for the treasure itself. In that case, the Restricted Section did make much more sense.

Looking at the small Slytherin boy – another firstie, it seemed – she couldn’t help but to crack into a grin. Aaah, really. What was it with Slytherin firsties and being completely adorable and hyper? “Oh my … aren’t we lucky then? This will be fuuuun!” She said with a light chuckle, before her attention was caught by something else. Someone else.

Eh. What was Clifford doing in the library? Well, by the look of it … homework. But still.

She smiled warmly at him and waved in his direction, resisting the urge to go to him. She had a job to do!

SnitchStealer <3 Chocolate Rain=Mmm!

She was going to do that as quick as she could.
She only needed to find a book, and finding a book couldn't be that hard.
Eleanor entered the library with her arms crossed. Ekk, she hated that place.
Only Merlin knew how much she hated it.

But Slytherin was far behind, and it looked like this year she couldn't wait for the other students to do homework and earn points.
Well, yes, because for the last years she only did the homework of the subjects she liked.. and when she wasn't feeling lazy to pick up a quill and do it.
But this year was different.
Sigh

The brunette girl walked around the shelves, still with her arms crossed, her brown eyes moving from book to book.
Ellie was starting to get tired, and she was only at that place for five minutes.
She turned around, closed her eyes and took a deep breath.
This is simple homework Bluebell, you just need to find a stup-
Ah! There you are!" Now with her eyes open, the girl took a couple steps froward and took the heavy Transfiguration book out of the shelf.
She opened the book and started walking , really slowly, as she tried to find what she needed to finish her Transfiguration homework.

What Evangeline and that group of peeps were doing, Clifford wasn't entirely sure. He couldn't help but keep stealing quick glances, but he didn't want to seem like a complete psycho stalker!

He wasn't a stalker! He was a good boy doing his homework!

... or trying to at least. Hmpf.

Eyebrows knitting together in confusion, Clifford waved rather feebly back at Evangeline. Heeeey. That didn't look like Prefect meeting ... now that was ... odd.

"OI! I was looking for that book!"
His thoughts were distracted by someone stealing the very book he'd been on the hunt for, and Clifford spun on his heel in search for the culprit. "HEY! Smelly Ellie! That's my book!"

GRRR!

Anna shrugged. She honestly didn't know what in Merlin's name she was even looking for, let alone where to find it. "I don't know," Anna honestly admitted. "I'm not even sure what we're looking for, much less where to find. I guess there's only one thing we can do now, and that's just to simply start looking --- anywhere and everywhere. With this many of us looking," she said, "we're bound to find something." Her eyes travelled the crowd again, momentarily resting themselves on Bilium Q. Jones. The kid was hiding something, there was no doubt about that. Could he have already found something to do with this treasure? If so, wouldn't that be just like a Slytherin to not want to share it? Psh. Then again, from what she'd heard about Will, it could very well be a songbook or a book containing the top 100 ways to wear a suit of armour to your next big party. Weird kid. Sneaky kid, though.

"Yep, that's right," Anna confirmed. Sure, she was spilling out everything she knew to all these shifty little Slytherins, but she wasn't making too much progress on her own, so she may as well see if the snakes could get her anywhere further. "Oh, well, we honestly have no idea, Evangeline. We haven't got any clues or leads yet," she replied. "But," she continued, "if you ask me, I think a great starting place would be for you to as your co-prefect what kind of book he was so interested in when we all starting walking up. It did look like he was mighty interested in it." Anna glared over at Will. The snake was as guily as the day is long.

Anna hung on to every word Nico was saying. He was absolutely right --- every last word of his speech was the absolute truth. "We've already thought about that last term," Anna confirmed. "As a matter of fact, the group and I nicknamed the fifth order "The Order of the Seal." For what it's worth, I think you're absolutely right, Nico. If the treasure was hidden as a combined effort from all four houses, then it's meant to be a combined effort in finding it, as well," she remarked.

As she was confirming Nico's words, Anna caught sight of yet another look Camira Yaxley gave her. This one, however, was a reassuring look. So the glare before actually hadn't been meant for Anna. Hmm...made sense. After all, Anna and Camira really didn't even know one another. Not enough to shoot glares, that is. "It may be easy for us to access the library, Camira, but it's no so easy to access the clues hidden within. I've been back and forth in here for days, and I still haven't found a single lead," she replied.

Seymour looked at the girl who had just joined them, nodding vigorously. Not just a treasure hunt... it was better than that! "Yes, ma'am! Restricted section? That sounded interesting. Too interesting to just let the two of them go... even if they didn't find a thing. "If we're all trying to figure this out, shouldn't we all go? We'd be able to cover more area. And there'd be a better chance of finding something." Not necessarily about the quest, but about something.
"I don't think it's in a textbook," Anna replied, shaking her head. "It's supposed to be something in this library, something we have to find. We keep all our textbooks with us all the time." Anna smiled and laughed softly as Seymour's enthusiasm. He seemed like a pretty fun guy to be around.

"Seymour, no one knows exactly what the treasure is, nor do they know exactly how to find it. We just have to start looking and see if we can find anything that looks mysterious. Anything that looks like it could be the works of a group of people hiding something or leaving something behind for others to discover," Anna explained.

OOC: Nico and Anna are already cloned and inside the Restricted Section, so I really didn't know how to address what you said about everyone going there. I guess that's the problem with cloning.

At this point we're assuming it's a book. The Minister of Magic is searching for this treasure, as well. One of my friends told me that she saw a ministry official up here just the other week talking to the headmistress. She saw the lady heading that way when she was out walking the castle one afternoon. We're assuming that this lady was here to inquire about the progress we're making in finding this treasure. I'm afraid that if we don't come up with something soon, we're headed back to Belle's and Cooper's."

Eleanor didn't move her eyes from the book, not even when some crazy student decided to start yelling at her.
Instant, while holding with book with her left hand, she waived her free hand dismissively in the air. "Yes..yes..Everyone is looking for this book." she snorted.

Seriously, she wasn't committing any crime, besides she had seen the book first.
..Smelly Ellie...
The brunette girl quickly lift up her head and looked around.
"Oh, so you are the crazy student that was yelling at me." It looked like Clifford was actually starting to enjoy doing that.
Yell at her.
"Well, I know you are a gentleman, Clifford. And you know what gentlemans do? They let ladies do whatever they have do to first than them." she grinned funnily while she looked at the older boy.

Then she transformed her funny grin into a smile.
"Seriously SweetLemon, I'm not planing on spending much time in here." Ellie spoke a bit more seriously. Clifford knew how much she hated librarys.. didn't he? "I'll give you this heavy book is a second."

The moment he'd called after her, Clifford instantly regretted it. You were meant to be quiet in libraries, right? As far as he knew, you were.. and it would be just his luck to get the pyscho librarian come yelling at him. Now that would be scary. Librarian's were EVIL.

"A - A gentleman? Of course.. Right."
Clifford unconsciously puffed his chest out rather proudly at Smelly Ellie's words. Uh huh. He was a gentleman.. and a very good one at that too. Hehe.

But still ... he wanted to look up that conjuring stuff quick, and get the heck out of here! He hadn't planned on staying here longer than necessary.

"How's about this.." He started with a nod and a small step toward Smelly Ellie. ".. it seems like we both want to get out of this scary place.. so why don't we research at the same time? Get it over with quicker!"

He'd get out there faster ... and maybe get some help studying too!

Ah! Luckily it seemed that the librarian was too busy to hear Clifford's yellings.
Yep, luckily because Eleanor didn't need trouble.
Eh, not now anyways.
Plus, she had heard the librarian yell at some students.. and she didn't found it pretty.

The brunette girl felt like she wanted to laugh.. hard, really hard, when she observed Clifford puffing his chest out.
She pressed her lips so that she couldn't laugh. She didn't want to take a risk of having the librarian yelling at her.
Because when Ellie laughs, she rarely does it quietly.
"Now you look like a funny peacock.." she mumbled with a chuckle.

Now, he was taking a step towards her.. which was something pretty odd since everything Clifford seemed to want from her was distance.
Long, long distance.
But she decided to ignore that though, after all she wanted to leave that place.. quickly!
And she still needed to end her Herbology homework.
Not one of her favorites and she seriously wasn't feeling like doing such homework.
The things I do to get some points..
Sometimes, Clifford Carden was a very smart person.
Well, when you are talking about Quiddicth he is always smart but that was a different matter.
"Smart gentleman you are Sweetlemon." she said a funny smile crossing her lips. "But yes sure. I think I can share the book... The brunette girl took a step forward and leaned the book closer to Clifford so that he could see too.
