Camira sighed, not paying much attention at all to the discussion about Harry Potter. Who cared anyway? His life didn't matter to her. Ugh. She hated history. She sighed and looked at her top ten lists. So far, she had three things and they were all quite depressing. And that Professor still hadn't answered about whether or not they'd have to share these with the class.

Anna raised her hand. She'd read a good bit about Harry Potter and knew that his life and accomplishments were quite important to the Wizarding World. "I'd list Potter's efforts in the Second Wizarding War as one of his ten most memorable moments. I've read about how trying that time was for him. He nearly died for the good of the Wizarding World," she said.

Rapunzel had made it to about five things on her top ten list now.....well, five positive things. She had to admit that seeing Willow Kovac reminded of a kajillion not-so-nice occasions that were, however, very memorable.

And so Punz added to her list, hardly noticing that Professor Lainey had said something. She did pick up on the phrase "Harry Potter," though. Didn't I read a book about him like, my first year? Yeah....

"Um, wouldn't the death of his friend, the little house-elf dude, be a memorable moment? Dobby, that's his name, right?" Punz guessed, raising her hand. "I mean, you don't always just remember positive occasions...."

Hannah raised her hand timidly. Professor Lainey seemed to be in a bit of a frightening mood. "What about his defeat of the basilisk in the Chamber of Secrets?" she suggested.

He really couldn't help himself but snort when she wrote the name of Harry Potter on the wall. They were going to study about that man?! Well, if Kingston knew this, he wouldn't have bothered to come to class. For him, Harry Potter was nothing more than a man who was lucky through his life. Kingston wouldn't say that the man was incapable of doing things. No, he was. But still, he didn't see him as a model figure like everyone else did.

"You know what his top memorable moment must be, professor?" Kingston spoke out with a smug smirk on his lips. "The day he lost both his parents and got his scar. If I were him, I'd list that as my first."

Lucas almost teared up when that capitanpuff spoke up. He rather thought she should change her name to The Icebox. For a girl she was too hard to make a soft crash when your are zooming around on a broom and she happens to be blocking your path.

He didn't like talking about sad things, and a house elf dying was too sad for words for him. he rather loved his Tweet. He sniffled before the tears started.

She watched the boy in amusement. Well, it was funny. She was glad to see she wasn't the only one who thought people made way too big a deal about Harry Potter. Sure, he defeated that evil guy, but he had everyone helping him and it was that and a lot of luck that he didn't die.

Okay wow. That was a harsh jab. I mean, the guy may not have been great, but it wasn't his fault some lunatic had killed his parents and tried to kill him. Besides, that would be a subconscious memory at best, so that didn't even make sense.

And wow. Now that Lucas kid was crying. She wasn't sure why. maybe cause of Harry Potter's parents? Weird. It was amazing how many of her classes ended up leaving someone traumatized.

At the moment, Kingston was marvelling his clean nails as the rest of the class were still talking about the famous Harry Potter who did blah things and blah, blah, blah saving the wizarding world. As if he cared. He was a Wendleworth and as a Wendleworth he shouldn't really care about these peasant things. These tales of a heroic man who grew up between evil three headed muggles (which he doubted) and suddenly began to defy Voldemort. To him, Voldemort was nothing more than a man who had an idiotic scheme to getting rid of Harry Potter.

As these thoughts ran back and forth in his head, he heard a sniff behind him and blinked. What in...? Kingston turned around to see a young Slytherin he had met before. Frankly, he couldn't remember the boy's name and why should he? It's not like they were going to be relatives or business partners or such. Looking at the boy closely, Kingston could see that tears were rolling down his cheeks.

Ahh...

"Sorry to ask this, but what are you crying about?" But when he thought over about what he said, he shook his head. "No, no forget about it! I will not include myself in childish things. Loss or whatever you're about to sob or wail about in horrid way that makes me cringe. No, no, forget I even asked you that question."

Jessica thought intensely for a while and then raised her hand to answer:
"A memorable memory can be when he became Seeker in his first year, or when he became Quidditch Captain". After all, Quidditch had been very important for Harry Potter.
"But also when Sirius died. It was a very tragic episode in his life." the girl added.

2. Surviving the killing curse and receiving a scar
3. Finding out he was a wizard
4. Meeting his best friends, Ron and Hermione Weasley
5. Participating and winning the Triwizard Tournament as a 4th year
6. The death of Sirius Black, his godfather
7. Being blamed for Dumbledore's death and the whole wizarding world thinking him crazy
8. Defeating Voldemort
9. Marrying Ginny Weasley
10. Having children

"Great job class! It's hard to narrow a life down to only ten defining moments, isn't it?" Or should have been, Lainey thought. "Now - let's change one moment in his life and rewrite history. What do you think would have happened - what throughout history would have changed - if say.... he'd never met Ron and Hermione? Never become friends with them? What then?" Lainey frowned before adding, "And please stop making people cry in my class."

Astrid raised her hand and said, "I've thought about that before actually and I've always wondered...If he hadn't met them on the train, what if Malfoy had become his friend first, like he originally tried to become. Would Harry have ended up in Slytherin after all? The Sorting Hat would have probably placed him there if he hadn't intervened. Which makes me wonder, just what kind of wizard would Harry have turned out to be if he went through his adolescence in Slytherin with Draco. Just how much of his personality or even his choices would have been effected by his environment? Would he still have fought the Dark Lord if he was so close to his followers?" Astrid took a deep breath. That was quite a mouthful but she had lots of questions when it came to that time Harry's life.

Sapphire raised her hand and said "what if he had never defeted the dark lord how many of us would be here right now?"

Nia tilted her head to the side thoughtfully. Luckily she'd read a bit about Harry Potter's life. "Things in the second wizarding war would have been very different," she answered softly as she raised her hand. "I mean, didn't Albus Dumbledore leave them all things in his will to help Harry on the road to defeating the Dark Lord. If they hadn't been friends, Harry wouldn't have necessarily had all the clues he needed. Or the knowledge, since wasn't Hermione the brainy prepared one?"

She bit her lip. "Oh, and there wouldn't have been a Dumbledore's army! Cos didn't Hermione and Ron persuade Harry to set that up? That would have affected history, since they helped at the Department of Mysteries and at the second war."

Miles chuckled at Astrid's little speech and when she took a breath. Who knew a little second year could talk so much wihout drawing breath? "I agree." He piped up, sitting up from slouching. "Harry's life would have taken a totally different path if he had been friends with Draco Malfoy. He wouldn't know things from a Gryffindor's perspective, like Hermione and Ron, but from a Slytherin's."

Jayne swallowed "Well, he sure would have died in the Philosephers stone chamber, cause Hermione wouldn't have been able to work out the potion thing" Jayne remembered from the books

"If that was so and he never met Ron or Hermione he might have joined the dark lord as the dark lord had tempted him to do and would be his second in command and maybe today because of that we would be learning about how great Voldermory was instead because his children would be ruling us." said Barry then he though wow how did I know all that?

Kingston blinked at what she asked, not really believing what he was hearing. If this was another Lainey class, she would now start telling everyone to draw a scar on their foreheads and react one of those moments. But now, she was actually talking about changing a moment in his life which was when he met those two friends of his.

"Basically, he would have been dead before he was able to finish his first year and Voldemort would be cackling victoriously." Kingston told her with a simple shrug. "Miss Gra--I mean Mrs. Weasley has the brains and Mr. Weasley has... well something extraordinary. Harry Potter is merely a normal boy who got a scar and a very unlucky life to live with."

Meredith thought a bit about it. She didn't think Potter would've gone to the bad side immediatly, so she raides her hand. "I think Harry Potter wouldn't have gone to the bad side immediatly if he hadn't met Ron and Hermione. I mean, Voldemort had killed his parents, after all. Maybe he had gotten some other friends, who were nice. However, he probably wouldn't have had such a smart friend as Hermione and he probably wouldn't have met Ginny..So it would have a major impact."
Wow. That was a lot she had just said..

Cale thought about the question for a bit before raising his hand. "Well, without Ron and Hermione he wouldn't have been very successful at all when trying to find the Sorcerer's Stone, or the Chamber of Secrets...for all we know he might not have even survived his first Quidditch match, because wasn't it Hermione Granger who stopped that curse that was trying to buck him off his broom?" he wondered aloud. "Plus, he wouldn't have had anywhere to go during the holidays if Mrs. Weasley didn't invite him to her house, and although it's not essential to his survival or anything I think it made him feel a bit better knowing that there was a least one family that cared for him."

"Perhaps you're right," Lainey shrugged. "Perhaps not. Maybe he would have prevailed anyway. Maybe he would have become more without his friends. But, I'm with you guys - I think they were his strength."

Lainey skipped up to the board and erased Harry Potter from it. "Now take a look around you, to your friends, and your own lists. Are there people in this room that ... well, you might not be here right now if not for them?"

Jayne frowned and shook her head "nup Apart from you professor, this lesson wouldn't have even started without you!"

He knew there was a catch to their lesson! She was spreading out her claws for her to capture them and rip them to pieces leaving them vulnerable! Yes, yes, that's what she was intending to do, Kingston thought irritably, his brows furrowed.

But then again...

He looked down at his list and frowned at the things he wrote. There was one moment where he could have not been here if it wasn't for it. He had to admit, Lainey was one of those people who made him get to this point. Of course, he would never forget the conservation he had with her back in his fifth year.

Running a hand through his hair, he gave a sigh of defeat. "Even though I despise saying this," he started emphasizing on the word, "I wouldn't have reached this point if you hadn't pushed me with your... " Kingston paused, wondering what good word he should use. Evil ways? No. Barbaric manner in teaching? No, no. Childish acts? Eh... No. "Kind ways," he finally decided a small smile on his lips.

"Although, this doesn't mean I love you." He added with a lazy smirk. "This is far away from love. And this also doesn't mean that I carry much respect for you, even though I carry some. Some. So keep that in mind, professor. Don't let your mind play games with you and tell you that I've gotten weak."

Take a look around, and at their own lists.. were there people in the room, that you might not be here right now if for them? Gosh. That was a bit personal, no? What sort of lesson was this? Looking down at his list with a small sigh, Clifford chewed on his lip nervously. There was one name that cropped up in a pretty much most of his ten most memorable moments.. and she was in this room. There was no way on this Earth he was about to share that with anyone else though. Hmpf.

Astrid smiled. She looked around and saw her prefects were in class with her. Also, Barry and Miles. And her best friend, Allie! She had no idea what her life here at Hogwarts would be like without Allie but she couldn't even fathom how different it would be. "Well, for me, I have learned loads from my friends. Especially about bravery and self-confidence. Is that what you're talking about, ma'am?" she asked.

Whitney thought. She really didn't know too many people in the room but if she hadn't made those friends would she still be there? Then Whitney looked at her list. She wasn't sure if she was supposed to same what she was thinking. Instead she stayed quiet and waited till someone else spoke first.
