"This is way too heavy!" Anna exclaimed, dragging her shovel behind her while looking for a good spot to dig. When Anna reached a spot that looked pretty clear and like a good place to dig, she lowered her shovel and prepared to dig. "Allliiiiieeeeeee," Anna muttered. "This is way too heavy. "Could you come grab the other end of my shovel and help me dig?"

Allie quickly came out of her day-dream, when she heard Anna calling her, and remembered what they were supposed to be doing.
"Oh..right." she giggled. "I'm coming!"
She ran up to Anna, and grabbed the other end of the shovel.
"All set?"

Anna giggled as Allie pulled herself out of her daydreaming state. "Thanks, and yes, I'm all set! Let's go!" With Allie's help, Anna began digging in the dirt, not really coming up with anything. Digging was surely a lot easier with another person's help, but Anna was started to get frustrated with their lack of progress after a while. "Ugh! I give u---," Anna started to say. She stopped her sentence when the shovel hit something hard. "Allie! We hit something! Lay down the shovel and help me look!"

Allie layed down the shovel, kneeled to the ground, and started to dig with her hands.
"Theres defia-OW!" she said, pulling her hand out. "It poked me!"
She wiped the dirt from her hands, then observed her finger to see if there was any blood. There was a little, but nothing major. So she stuck her hand back in the whole, carefully this time, and removed a sharp piece of metal, covered in dirt. She held it up to Anna.
"What do you think it is?"

Anna's eyes grew big as quaffles as she saw the bit of blood on Allie's fingertip. "Are you okay, Allie?" she asked. It appeared that her friend wasn't too hurt, so Anna examined the object Allie had pulled from the dirt. She didn't dare touch it, though. "Well...it's very shiny---a very shiny golden color. Hmmm..." Anna's eyes suddenly lit up, almost as if a thought had suddenly occured to her. "Look, Allie! It says 'Gr' on the metal! Gryffindor!!! Or Godric Gryffindor! Wonder what it could be, or what it was used for, though?"

"Maybe it was hissword or something?" she said, exammining it more closley. "Or maybe some long lost thing that helped Godric Gryffindor build the school or soemthing.."

"His sword!" Anna exclaimed. "That's it! This is a piece of the famous Godric Gryffindor sword. It was used to destroy horcruxes in the Second Wizarding War. Professor Lainey will love this! Come on! Let's go find her!" With that, Anna stood up and began to head off in Professor Lainey's direction.

Unfortunately, being a second year meant limited knowledge of spells and that meant most of the time relying on muggle ways to getting things done. Holding her small shovel in hand begrudgingly, she pointed down at a soft patch of soil. "I can't believe I have to touch that."

But feeling that time was wasting away she knelt down enough to be close to use her tool but making sure her body didn't come in contact with the dirt. "It's not like we'll find something terribly pricey."

Hogwarts just didn't seem like the place to have precious stones lying around.

Nicholai made a small noise of agreement and used his wand to charm a protective barrier for his hands before reaching into his pockets and withdrawing an expensive-looking pair of gloves and pulling them on. He then scourgified the ground before kneeling on it, a tortured sigh escaping from his lips.

"Hold out your hands, Daphne." Nicholai ordered her, kneeling beside the Gryffindor.

Daphne was staring the ground scornfully, wishing it illness and years of bad crops when she was being ordered around by the older student. Blinking, she held out her hands wordlessly at first but then thought that being a little cautious wouldn't hurt. "They're in your hands now," she spoke without thinking and winced at how lame that must have sounded. What's next: I trust you with my life? That was sickening. It only worked in muggle movies.

Nicholai didn't respond to the little girl's words but held one of her hands with his as he cast a barrier charm on her hands. He did the same for the other and turned to face the patch of dirt with distaste.

"I guess... It's time."

Daphne bit her lip. Yup, it must have sounded as lame as she thought. Desperately clinging to the new subject of conversation she grasped the shovel in her hands. "Best to do it quickly so we can move on with our lives," she mumbled a tad melodramatically, as was a habit of hers and began scooping dirt to the side as quickly as she could while trying not to dirty herself and her partner. If only they'd find the bloody fossil quickly, define whatever it was (most likely they'd fine a chicken bone dropped by a hungry hufflepuff boy) and move on with their important and busy lives.

Finding Nicholai to work a little slowly, she began to invade his side of the digging site. "Don't mind me, just--" Trying to get away from here!

Not even slightly willing to do manual labour, Nicholai used his wand to cast the handy little gouging spell, Defodio, being careful that the dirt was pushed away from the two of them. It wouldn't be good for either of them to get covered in the stuff and give up on homework as a lost cause.

A good ten inches down, Nicholai stopped, spying a stick. He levitated it out intending to cast it aside when he noticed it was...

a wand? Or rather a piece of one. He looked at Daphne and scourgified the thing off so he could take a better look.

"What do you make of this? Its a wand... looks like its holly, but its split... maybe in a duel? I wonder where the rest is?" It broke off a bit in his hands and he raised an eyebrow, "Must be old if its crumbling," Nico pulled a piece aside, and the core was visible. Unicorn hair; definitely a piece of wand. "hmmm."

Ah! That spell was useful. Slipping it into the reserve in her memory, Daphne attacked the most urgent of matters at the moment and that was to identify what Nicholai had found. Dropping the shovel away from her with a wrinkled nose, she focused once more on the object. "Must have been a pretty awful duel for it to have split like that. Very powerful wizards maybe?" Or witches if you were a feminist, thought Hopton. "Probably nothing as nearly as inspiring as a piece of Godric Gryffindor's sword," spoke Daphne with a smirk out of the corner of her mouth, nodding at a group of girls who had run off to tell Professor Lainey about their findings not too long ago. "They must have been staff at Hogwarts," went on to recreate the blond. "Or at least one of them was. We should go tell Lainey now, shouldn't we?" Finished the Gryffindor standing up and dusting off her clean hands, thanks to Nicholai, as if she had done an awful lot of work.

"It feels a little...sad." Nicholai commented idly, standing up and peering at the wand fragment. He looked down at the girl and held the broken wand out to her as if bestowing a great gift. "You take it, Daphne." he smiled at the girl.

"And do me a favour; don't hold all this... drama against Cela; I'd like very much for her to have a nice friend like you, someone decent and clean and not running around like a lunatic."

We get to play in the dirt on purpose! Lucas was way too excited about this. He plopped right down in the dirt and wiggled a little bit. Being dirty was the spice of life if you asked him. He wanted to giggle at all the silly girls looking at the dirt like it was going to eat them. There was nothing better.

He pulled out his personal green shovel and started to dig through the dirt. It was a bit hard but with a lot of stabbing and turning he could break it up and maybe find something really awesome.
