"I'm Allie. True. The most I know is how to make a pretty flower arrangement." Allie whispered, working on her plant. She looked up at the teacher and waited for his reply.

Camira had no clue. She decided to take her best guess. "Could in mean that the plant needs less sun and water then the average plant to survive? Since leaves are a huge part of photosynthesis, and transpiration and it seems as though large flat leaves are best for that, couldn't it indicate that the plant requires less than normal amounts to sustain itself? Or maybe that's why it needs the other plant."

What? Now she was confusing herself.

Shaylee looked at Lizzie. Your guess is as good as mine. she said. watching what lizzie was doing, she started doing the same to her plants. im still confuzed but im sure we'll get it.

"I'm in Ravenclaw." Raine hurried back to where she had sat before to grab her bag. "Thanks. For letting me sit with you, that is." she said to Lizzie.

"Hi again" Lizzie said to Reine. She decided to describe for the girl what to do. "I'm not sure, but I think we are selecting which ones of these plants to throw away, and which should stay with the strange plant in the middle, since they are depending on each other to survive... Wanna help?" She turned to Shaylee; "Well even if we're doing the wrong thing, it's better than doing nothing, right?" She smiled and reached for her plant.

Helena's eyes narrowed. She may have been foreign, but she knew what 'idiot' meant, and it was taking all her will power not to let another substantial retort slip off the tip of her tongue. She didn't say anything after he finished speaking. His last comment had no effect on her, and as she began working on another plant, there was a hint of a smile across her lips.

Despite initially wanting to be green, Dominic felt a sense of satisfaction when the Professor deducted those points from Slytherin. Perhaps it was his hidden Hufflepuff pride, but nonetheless it was strange. The fourth year listened to what the Professor had to say of the plant before posing another question to the group.

Listening to those answer, he then frowned at the gryffindors and slytherins mostly who seemed to be chatting and unfocused. Sighing quietly, he took the Cardio Mythos and planted it in the space he had made in his pot, before gazing up at the Professor once more. "Leaves are the main source through which plants receive their nutrients by way of sunlight and the chemical process called photosynthesis. However, the smaller the leaf, the less sunlight the plant can receive and thus less nutrients. As you mentioned, there are no branches, but only stems. Plant stems serve several purposes which include transporting fluids between the roots and the leaves, storing nutrients, supporting the leaves and flowers, and producing new tissue. Since it doesn't receive much in the way of nutrients via sunlight, the cardio mythos relies heavily on the stems to store all the nutrients for lengthy periods of time," Dominic explained after raising his hand, though not completely sure of his answer.

Camira looked to see who was talking. Hmmm. Some Hufflepuff boy. He'd kind of said what she mean, but way better. She gave him a little smirk, all the while wondering if would consider tutoring her. It looked like she was going to be needing it this term.

Nicholai planted a Cardia Mythos in the space he and Anna had made in their planter and when he had finished he raised his hand.

"Well three petaled flowers are classified as either a monocot or a magnoliid, so we know it is one of those. I'd guess a monocot- which means that the stem contains vascular tissues in bundles around the outer part of the stem rather than in rings. Because the vascular bundles are on the outer part of the stem that is why the leaves are long and slender; growing up around the stem to protect it."

Nicholai paused as he thought about it; not being able to remember much else from his reading, but deciding to clarify a little , "The vascular tissue is what transports resources around the plant."

Christine looked at Dominic with awe. He knew quiet a lot about plants. That really impresssed Christine. She was actually very confused with all the plant talk and had to focus hard just to keep up. Christine turned her attention back to her plants and continued to find some room to plant her cardia mythos.

Cale raised his hand, ready to make another completely wrong attempt at answering again. "Well, since it only has three petals that would mean it's a magnoliid or a...um...monocot, but I dunno which one. But that narrows it down to at least two, so that's a good thing. And since the leaves are closer to the stem due to the absence of branches, nutrients can get to the leaves faster cause they don't have all that extra plant to go through."

Lisa was quite confused about what to do, she lookde around with a blank face. She was listening, but she just didn't get it; and this was supposed to be one of her favourite subjects.

Mariel continued to work in blissful silence, repotting and transfering plants, although she was forced to block out the incessant chattering from a few of her classmates apparently insisting on talking throughout the entire class. She had no answers for the questions the professor posed to the class, deciding instead to only listen and write down the correct answers in her notes. She really wasn't sure of the answer anyway, at least not until someone else answered first and then she'd feel ridiculous for just reiterating the same reply. Notetaking and planting would have to suffice for the time being. At least until she had a better understanding of the nature of plants. Herbology was by far not her best subject.

Mariel looked up in shock when a Slytherin girl asked the professor a rude question, then watched, transfixed, as he responded and she continued with rude remarks. As she finally tore her eyes away to continue her transplanting, Mariel had to stifle a laugh when the professor took points away from her. At least she wasn't in Ravenclaw.

Mariel sighed as she patted the soil around her plants. Another question from the professor that she had no clue about. Barely paying attention to who was speaking, Mariel turned her attention away from the plants to continue taking notes. She looked up in surprise as one of the students rattled off an answer. Surprised because, one, she didn't know Book Hater was in this class and, two, he came up with somewhat of an educated reply. Mariel was nearly impressed. Shrugging, she turned back to her pots of plants and resumed her work. She hoped this class would be over soon so she could wash her hands and get started on the inevitable homework.

Now that Maddox had made room for the Cardia Mythos to fit snuggly in between the remaining plants, Astrid watched as he set it in place. She smiled at him when he was finished, happy that it was coming together so nicely. "It really looks great, Maddox." she said.

She then searched through her textbook for the answer to the Professor's question. She came across some interesting information, and hoped that it was the answer he was looking for. Raising her hand, she said, "It says here that flowers with only three petals are categorized as magnoliids or monocots. And that Monocot stems have scattered vascular bundles and most of their vascular bundles are near the outside edge of the stem. Monocot roots have their vascular bundles arranged in a ring. Also the Monocot leaves have their leaf veins arranged parallel to each other and the long axis of the leaf."

Chezney say a Ravenclaw just as confused as she was...looking around she spots people looking in their textbooks. "Oh right!" she said to herself. She turns to the girl and says "i think the answer's are in here" she spots the plant she thinks the proffesor is reffering too and lifts up her hand to tell him the answer.

After being told she is indeed right Chezney feels very happy with herself. "that was lucky" she say's to the girl, "the first page i open at has the answer onit!" "My names Chezney, whats yours? Does your common room really have a statue init?"

Listening to Camira and some Hufflepuff boy, Dominic or so she thought he was called, answer the professor's last question very precisely, Nancy was staring at the plant in front of her as if to hypnothize it or like it was going to do anything interesting anytime soon. Unfortunately for Nancy, the plant had obviously no intentions at all to obey her wishes. Maybe something would happen if she poked the plant?
Having Camira next to her she quickly abandoned the thought, though. Oh, and the teacher probably wouldn't be too pleased to see her going around poking plants either and Slytherin couldn't afford to lose any more points.

Camira had just finished replanting the two plants that looked like they might possibly make it. She started carefully planting the Cardia Rose plants. She had decided it would be easier to plant them in a circle first, leaving the hole she and Nancy had dug for the Cardia Mythos.

She looked over and Nancy and snickered. God, it wasn't that bad, was it? She did find this year more confusing than the last, but she still thought it was interesting. She leaned over towards Nancy. "It's usually more exciting than this", she said reassuringly.

Hearing a snicker Nancy turned towards Camira and grinned halfheartedly. "Oh no, it's really interesting now as well." She said sarcastically and smirked at Camira. Watching her doing something with the plants she thought she shouldn't be that negative about the whole thing so she asked, "So, anything I can help you with?", nodding towards the plants. Maybe like this she would be able to find out if poking the plants would make anything special happen.

Shaylee noticed as another girl came and talked to Lizzie. Smiling at the girl she said Hi there im Shaylee. Turning to Lizzie she said Yea it would be much better to have something done Shaylee kept working on the plants with lizzie and the other girl who seemed nice.

Lizzie smiled as Shaylee spoke to Reine, and said "It's nice to meet so many nwe friends, isn't it? I've never had this many friends before." She grabbed a particular small plant and pulled it up. Holding it in her hand, she continued "So have you heard about the new Dueling club? Are you gonna join?" She looked at the plant, a bit unsure what to do with it. Throw it away or put it in another pot? She decided it was to small to survive anyway, so she trew it away and turned to the girls again.

Lisa smiles at the girl,"Oh, right,okay",she looks at where Chezney was pointing.Chezney puts her hand up to tell the professor and she got it right,"Wow, great work",Lisa told her."Yeah, our common room does have a statue in it, it's pretty cool, which house are you in?", she said, keen to impress."So, what's your name?, I'm Lisa", she turned to the girl and whispered.

Chezney grinned at Lisa "I'm Chezney, but my friends call me Chez" She whispered back. " Thats really cool, i'm in gryffindor we don't have a statue or anything but we do have this massive fireplace and really compfy sofa's!"

"I'll help." Raine said. Then she turned to the other girl working with Lizzie. "Hi, I'm Raine." she said. Raine put her things down below the table and started examining the plants.

Sarah stood by her planter.
Oh, she thought, I've already put my plant in.I got a bit ahead of myself again.
Shrugging she continued pushing on the soil to make sure it was in properly.
She heard the Professor's question,but didn't attempt to answer.Even with the hint,Sarah didn't know,and she wasn't going to make an idiot of herself again.
I'll just wait until someone else gets it right and jot it down, she thought.

Its great! i love all the friends ive made! i didn't think i would be able to meet so many! as for the dueling club, i havn't herad of it. Sounds like fun though I'll check it out later. Noticing she was finshing up with her plants, Shaylee wondered what to do next.
