| | Herbology Lesson One: Room for a New Arrival Once again the room is filled with empty pots, soil, and replanting supplies. In addition are some over-crowded planters. In fact, much of the greenhouse seems to be crowded this time around, some pots holding fairly new plants. In the back of the room is a large empty bin marked "Compost."
Professor Carracio made his way around the room, checking the plants and somewhat looking like he was apologizing to them. Though all it was only the barest flicker in his eyes as he looked at each one. By the time he came back to the front of the classroom his expression was blank, and not a hint of emotion could be seen behind the midnight eyes. |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Armand Beta-Erikson Slytherin First Year Hogwarts RPG Name: Damien Beta-Erikson Slytherin First Year | Slytherin by heart As Drago rounded the room, he observed everyone's hesitant first moves. "Remember, the key in this moment is observation and control. Make sure you know which plants you are taking, and know if they are hardy enough to survive transplant. Control your actions, be patient, and be gentle. Rushing will not make things go faster, they will only make things go wrong. And trying to fix any action will make things take longer. The more you rush, the longer it will take in the end, and the more effort it takes. Someone give me an example for two points."

Freya raised her hand and answered thoughtfully, "Also, if you rush, there is a greater chance of you to become clumsy, possibly knocking over your supplies and even the plant. And you can cause damage to the plant if that were to happen. And you certainly would not want this to happen if you were working with potentially hazardous materials. This can all result in miscellaneous damages, wasted time, and personal injury."

Nia raised her hand. "I guess, sir, if you were a florist of sorts, and a customer had preordered a certain type of flower, if you rushed the transplantation the plant might not flourish as well as it could do, and possibly not bloom. That'd lose you money, since they wouldn't be satisfied. Or if you were a supplier of potion ingredients, and you had damaged the roots of a plant that were needed for particular recipes...it might delay a customer's order. And then they wouldn't be impressed and you might lose business." She shrugged, unsure if the examples she had given were totally related to the Professor's question.

Freya raised her hand again, "Well, let's say you own a business where you grow plants and other herbs for customers, take special orders I guess you could say. One day you receive a letter from a good friend and they want to meet you to have a fun outing, so you rush your evening care, wanting to complete as quickly as you can, and you give the plants more water than necessary. You end up drowing the plants and ruining a good reputation for yourself, and maybe even lose a customer."

"Well, I remember when we had the konkagami," Gwen said. "I...kinda killed it. I didn't watch over it carefully enough, plus I wasn't careful enough when I took it out of the pot. Ending up spending more time than I probably needed to on that one. Oh and Ghosty's tale. That's a beautiful plant, and very valuable, but because it's a ghost plant you have to be extra careful transplanting it, and it's worth dung if you damage it."

Camira raised her hand. "In journalism, you're working on a deadline. If you rush because you didn't prepare adequately, your writing will be of low quality and it will give the editor more work. If it's really bad, the editor may give it back and you'll have to do it over and probably miss your deadline. So that's more time, effort, and you could possibly lose your job."

She had almost cut her finger on one of the plant's thorns. Great, Herbology was becoming much more difficult than she had expected. "Okay." She muttered and started to move the dirt away from their plant, keeping an eye on the thorns and trying hard not to damage any of the surrounding plants. It wasn't exactly easy but she somehow managed to. Camira gave her a smirk. "Oh. Right. Sorry, forgot about those."
She started gently tugging on the plant and rolling it slighly back and forth to help loosen it. It was taking a long time, but she'd rather do it right than do it fast. It was half-way free from its former pot. Finally she was getting somewhere. Quote:

Anna raised her hand. "Well, professor, if you rush, you increase your chances of accidentally doing the wrong thing or making a mess of the right thing. When that happens, you've probably ruined the materials and/or resources that come from the plant. It can be quite costly - moneywise, timewise, and resource-wise - to replace these materials. You've lost time and valuable materials, in this case, by rushing. It would make it a lot easier on yourself and others involved to just do the job correctly in the first place," she said.

Lizzie wasn't really the one to usually answer questions, but she gave it a try. She raised her hand and said "Well if you're working on a plant that can be used as medicine to save lives, making a delay could be the difference between life or death, couldn't it?" She blushed slightly, she hated to speak infront of the class. But it was worth trying, right? And though her answer wasn't half as detailed as the older students, she wouldn't lose any house points for trying. And hey, this was her first herbology lesson ever, no one could possible expect her to be perfectly right in everything..
