Allie raised her hand.
"So a werewolf really can't control wheather it attacks someone or not?" she asked.

"Oh, of course," Anna replied. "Besides, I doubt they have any real idea of werewolves. They pretty much had to use their imaginations on this one. I think they were aiming to entertain a lot more than to inform."

"No, Allie. Your classmates are absolutely correct. Animal instincts totally take over and the person infected as a werewolf will be unable to control themselves without the Wolfsbane Potion. When you hear of purposeful werewolf attacks, those are people who have chosen to position themselves near society during a full moon."

She tapped the projector again. "Let me show you an old vampire movie now. This one is a little long and sometimes laughable, but this is one of the prevailing myths of vampire lore."

Torie raised her hand. "Professor, it is interesting that most of the muggle myths in these videos portray magical creatures as evil, but there are many other myths about good magical creatures, and they are pretty close to our knowledge of them. For example, unicorns are pretty similarly portrayed in the muggle world as they are in ours."

Rapunzel paid close attention to this clip now, but blinked when it was over. "So um....I'm guessing silver stakes and stuff really have no effect on vampires....?"

Astrid was a little confused by this video. She raised her hand and said. "Well ma'am, it looked like he was trying to put Van Helsing under the Imperio curse. But Vampires aren't wizards, they are non-wizard part humans, right? So I don't understand his use of 'magic'. And what is with the talk of stakes and what not?" she asked.

Ludo sat quietly as the Headmistress conducted class. He watched with interest as the projector played a film on vampires. Part-humans had always been a mystery to him. He'd known of their existance but little more than that, even though he'd grown up in an all-wizard family.

"Maybe Mother and Father didn't want us to know..." he thought.
His attention turned back to the vampire film.
"Interesting...they're more powerful than I thought."

"Hmm..I dont think that cross thing would really work on a vampire.." she said.

"As I said, there is a lot of strong myth surrounding Dark creatures. I agree that there are many portrayals in legend and lore about all sorts of good creatures, but this is a class about the Dark Arts, so we won't explore those right now."

She tapped her wand on the projector yet again. "Many Muggles feel that vampires are dead people brought back to a sort of half life that can be warded off with religious symbols and fire and sunlight. Let's look at another example. This one is TRULY silly."

Astrid raised both eyebrows and said, "Mmm, sexy vampires? I want one!" She laughed and then tried to remember that this WAS a class. "But isn't it possible for them to live among us? And maybe even fall in love?" She asked with a dreamy look in her eyes.

"Whoa!" Anna exclaimed, looking at the clip in admiration. Suddenly, she was way more interested in these clips than she'd been throughout the entire class. "Who cares whether or not that is an accurate description? I've never seen a vampire up close and personal, but if they look like that...WHEW!" Anna suddenly blushed, realizing she'd said a tad more aloud than she'd intended. "I mean, erm...nice clip, Professor."

Allie watched the movie.
"This really has to be one of the stupidest things things I have ever seen." she said, rolling her eyes. "I dont think anyone could stop a car like that or run that fast. I mean really...who comes up with these things?"

Punz leaned forward in her seat and watched this one very, very closely. The odd thing was, she had never seen a vampire as good looking as that one boy was supposed to be. And he kinda looks like Curt Diggory, come to think of it...weiiiiiiird....

"Yes, very silly," she declared at the end. "I don't know much about Vampires but I don't think they're that pretty." Clearly, appearances were all the mattered in this clip. Ahem.

Torie could see how the characters would seem ridiculous to wizards quite easily. However, being a muggle-born, she couldn't help but get excited about the film.

Christine didn't know what to think about that one. She really didn't know anything about vampires. Professor, are all those things the girl says about the guy, about him being strong and fast, true about vampires?

"No. Not that pretty, not that fast, not that interesting, but they do have the human side that this movie shows. Not incrediblely hard shiny skin, but the same desires that we all have." She clapped her hands. "Don't be silly about a movie, or I'll be forced to show you that chocolate one again."

She tapped the projector again. "One last movie. This is another vampire movie, albeit a very very silly one. I am sure you'll be very amused by this, although it is a bit scary at first."

Cale crossed his arms moodily and slid down in his seat, glaring at Anna slightly as she rambled on about gorgeous vampires. Stupid vampires...he highly doubted any of them looked as handsome as the muggle interpretation that was playing on the screen. What was so great about him anyways? He was awfully pale and sickly looking, and he couldn't speak for every girl in the class but HE certainly didn't find those traits appealing on girls. Bleh. If he saw a girl who was that pale and fragile he'd tell her to go eat a five course meal.

Cale raised his hand as a question come to his mind...anything to get the talk away from sexy vampires. Ewwww, that was so icky! "Professor, are there any accounts of vampires actually living with muggles and blending into society, like the one depicted in this clip?" he asked, nodding in the direction of the screen. He blinked as she changed the clip as he finished speaking. Hmmm, maybe THIS one he could get into a bit more...if every lady who went around killing vampires was as pretty as the blonde girl on screen he would definitely be more interested in this class. He dropped his hand and watched the clip, chuckling at the absurdity of it all. He could hardly remember why he had been in a bad mood a few moments ago...

"That was quite possibly the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen!" exclaimed Torie with a giggle. She sat back in her seat and munched on her popcorn, waiting for the Professor to continue.

Astrid's dreamy look all but left her eyes. "Eww! That is one hideous, not to mention idiotic look specimen. Please tell me that that was a comedy in its day." She pleaded with her hand in the air. "Surely no one can really believe that bunch of nonsense."

That video made Christine laugh again. Professor does sticking a piece of wood in their chest really kill them?

"Yeah that's even sillier," Punz remarked, shaking her head at the stabbed dude, the blonde, and the violinist. Hey, that sounds like a joke! A violinist, a vampire, and a blonde walked into a bar....

Allie laughed.
"That was ridiculus!" said Allie.

"What?" Anna mouthed, giving Cale an innocent look. She knew good and well what he was glaring at her for. It was just a fictional vampire. A hot fictional vampire at that. So Cale was starting to get a little moody, but Anna wouldn't let that ruin the happy moment she was having. She glanced up at the professor, silently hoping the vampire clip would be shown again. When it became evident that it wouldn't be, Anna shrugged and watched as another film was brought up on the pro-whatever.

As soon as Anna saw what was on the screen, she immediately shot a glance over in Cale's direction. Ugh! She could tell just by looking at him what he was thinking. How dare he! The girl onscreen was not all that. Sure, she was sort of heroic, but still... When Cale proceeded to lower his hand and glue his eyeballs to the screen, Anna huffed out a sigh, crossed her arms over her chest, and slid down in her seat. Ugh. He'd put her in a bad mood now.

Rae laughed. "Yes, some of these clips are very silly, as you've noticed, and some of these clips are a little insulting. The point, though, is that Muggles are not entirely immune to what goes on in the world. We have a duty, not only to ourselves and those we hold dear, but also to Muggles, to make the world a safer place. They have no idea what is waiting for them out there."

She came around the desks to stand at the front of the room. "Now that you've seen clearly what is WRONG about these depictions, I want us to take time to study what is true about Dark creatures. This is a springboard for your own studies. I'd like you to select one of my movies, or even to find your own in my limited library, and watch it. Pull from it what is wrong and even those things that are right, and write me two to three good paragraphs about those things. Give as much information as you can. This assignment is due Sunday, Nov. 23 at midnight EST. Make sure you carefully read the instructions in my office on how to submit homework. Are there any question?"

Astrid raised her hand and asked, "Is there a list of movies that are available ma'am? Or should we just make an appointment to stop by your office?" She was strongly considering using the hottie Vampire movie but she had a feeling that most of the girls would feel that way and Astrid liked to try to be original whenever possible.
