Her eyes lit up as she heard the word cocoa and she stood, making sure her bag was securely in place beside her cushion before walking over to the cabinet and getting herself a cup. smiling she sipped it and scooted back to the cushion, quickly checking something in her bag before looking up with excitement in her eyes.

Mariel stepped tentatively into the barely lit room and looked around for a seat. Noting that the normal chairs were gone in place of cushy chairs, she took a set next to Jenn. Offering the girl a smile, she nodded hello to the Headmistress and looked warily at the crate of popcorn headed her way. These classes are getting stranger and stranger, she thought suspiciously to herself.

Anna almost couldn't believe what she was hearing. They were going to get treated to popcorn and hot cocoa during this lesson? Awesome! Without thinking twice about it, Anna stood and made her way to the front to retrieve her hot cocoa. "Thanks, professor!" Anna politely said, taking her cocoa and returning to where she'd been seated.

Dominic blinked a few times when the Professor started passing out buttered popcorn and cocoa. Oh for love of the Holyhead Harpies - why sugar and sweets?! Seriously, as if these students weren't normally hyper enough. Shaking his head, the fourth ruefully declined the popcorn and waited for the real lesson to begin.

Because honestly, if he had to sit through a lecture on popcorn, then Dominic was sure he would die.

Rae took a seat on top of her desk and tapped her wand against the top a few times, sending off a shower of silver sparks. It seemed to be working just fine. "We're going to have a very different class today, so I'd like you to be willing to bear with me for a while. I want to talk about Dark Creatures and Muggles today. Does anyone here have any thoughts on whether or not Muggles are aware of what we consider to be Dark Creatures? Are they totally in the dark?"

Ryan raised his hand and offered his thoughts: "I'm Muggle-born, and when I was growing up, my mom always told me stories of the Boogie Man and things like that. I'm not exactly sure to what they might relate, but I'm sure Muggles at least have some awareness that there's something out there beyond what they know."

"Nice pun," he added, smirking.

Elizabeth took a bag of popcorn as the crate was passed around. Okay, this class seems like it's going to be fun, she thought, before placing the popcorn by her bag in order to stand up to get a mug of cocoa. Returning to her eseat, she took a sip before raising her free hand. "My father's a Muggle. And I'm pretty sure there are stories out there in the Muggle world of Drak creatures. I know they talk about werewolves."

Allie raised her hand.
"I dont hink so, m'am." she said. "They have heard of some of our dark creatures, but they think of them as myths, and not being real. It's all make believe to them."

WOOO!!!! Popcorn and cocoa!! After he'd stuffed his mouthful of popcorn, Clifford raised his hand clumsily. "Well, some o' them Muggle dudes believe in Vampires and Werewolves don't they?" He asked, accidentally spraying the people around him with crumbs. Oopsy. "Does that count?"

Astrid raised her hand and said, "Well ma'am, from my experience with Muggles, they are somewhat aware...sorta. They just don't believe. They don't mind hearing stories about Dark Creatures but seldom do they entertain the idea that the creatures are real." She remembered how shocked her Muggle parents were sometimes still and they had a witch for a daughter. You would think that of all people they would be convinced of the unseen.

Anna raised her hand and said, "They have heard of only a few of our magical creatures. For example, they've heard of dragons, as they have depicted them in several muggles books and movies. However, their version of the creatures is quite different from our version. Where we see the creatures as real and existing just as we do, muggles see the creatures as being fictitional---things that only exist in fairy tales and the make-believe world. So, no, they're not completely in the dark as far as knowing of the creatures. I'd say they're in the dark with with knowing of their actual existance, though."

Before she could even take a sip of her cocoa, she remembered she had forgotten to say thank you. She could hit her head now for that. She sighed as she heard the professor ask them the question about the dark creatures and muggles.

"By the way...thank you for this sweets..." She quickly said as she started to get an argument about the question just asked.

"I think they are somewhat aware of the Dark Creatures that live in this world...because some of them, show up, like...a Boggart...or Boogeyman as they called them, and, Muggles sometimes associate those creatures with their culture, the folklore, mythology, etcetera..." She quickly said, hoping to at least have a little close the answer.

"Oh, that's a good one, Ryan," Rae nodded. "There is no historical record of a monster boogie man, although the boogie man myth is certainly based upon the notorious wizard Malachi the Villainous, who was known to hide under beds and scare children for fun. That's a great example."

"They HAVE heard of many real dark creatures, and you are correct. They consider most of them to be mythical and those who believe they are in fact real are often considered to be mad."

"Oh, you are certainly way ahead of me today, Clifford," Rae laughed. "Some Muggles believe in vampires and werewolves, but they don't get it exactly right."

Again, Ryan raised his hand. "Well, what I've found with Muggles is that they don't like to believe things that seem....implausible. People in general like to appear to have their wits about them, or at least, most do. Everyone would think a Muggle were crazy if he or she was saying things about a lethifold attacking them or dementors taking away all the happy. It would be blasphemous. Even my parents have a hard time accepting some of the things I tell them." Muggles could be so stubborn.

Allie raised her hand.
"Well, probably because they have never seen them before." said Allie. "And the idea of some creatures, such as werewolves or vampires, are so scary, you just dont want to believe they exist."

Clifford blinked in surprise. Ahead? He was never ahead of anyone, let alone the Headmistress! EEP! "Sorry Ma'am, it must be the popcorn and cocoa giving me brain power." Oh gosh, had he just said that out loud?

Ears turning pink, he raised his hand yet again. "Uhm - maybe ... maybe they prefer to believe they ain't real.. cause they're scary?" He pointed out the obvious unsurely, feeling like a dumbo.

Melinda raised her hand and spoke. "They had not seen them...and just the idea...of a creature that might take away your happiest thoughts such as a Dementor is so scary that they just don't want to know about it...and ignore it at some point..." She answered, slowly taking her hand down to hold her cocoa with both hands.

Tanjiro raised his hand and answered, "Well, professor, I believe that they do not want such abnormality to exist amongst their society. I believe many have seen what these dark creatures have done, tried to tell their muggle authorities, but the authorities didn't believe them. Or maybe personnel from a certain part of the ministry was sent to obliviate the muggle witness? I believe that the statute of secrecy has played a role in why most muggles do not believe in dark magical creatures, as well as that muggle's dignity within society. One would not want to be judged as 'insane'."

Astrid smiled and raised her hand again. "Well, the Muggles that I've known always seemed scared of the 'unknown'. Its almost like they would rather live in ignorance than to seek out the truth. Also, it doesn't help that the majority of the stories they've heard, well.... a lot of them were pretty frightening."

Dominic listened as other students chimed in about dark creatures and muggles. Half listening to them, he waited for the professor, until she asked another a question. Well duh; that's an obvious one ...

Sighing quietly, the fourth year raised his hand. "It is easier for muggles to believe the creatures aren't real, because sometimes it is better than facing their reality of how dangerous they are. Make believe is better than a reality," as evident by Hogwarts Students alone.

"Well, I think you've all hit the nail on the head. Sometimes it's easier to ignore our senses then to accept something fantastical or maybe too scary for our poor minds to handle. But we must be brave enough to live in this world." She of all people knew how scary the world could get.

She rose and circled to the back of the room. "So I'd like to share some Muggle myths with you today. Have you heard that Muggles are actually vaguely aware of the magical world?"

Anna raised her hand again. "Muggles tend to not believe in things they can't see or things they don't often see. It's not very common for a magical creature, such as a dragon, to be seen strolling along in the Muggle world. Also, most magical creatures possess powers that Muggles have come to associate with fiction, so Muggles can't properly see them as existing just as they do," she said.

Tanjiro raised his hand, "Professor, I've read about the Statute of Secrecy but I'm sure there are some muggles that know of our world?"

Allie raised her hand.
"I've heard that muggles have heard of witches and wizards." said Allie. "But some of there idea's of witches are that they have green skin, long noses, and fingernails, and have warts. Which is obviously not true."

Muggle myths? Ha! No. He was a pureblood; that was the last thing he heard about it. Sighing quietly, Dominic just shook his head and waited ...
