Melinda heard the professor's question. Quickly, she raised her hand, obviously excited to say what the spell, Finite Incantatem might do.

"It is a counter spell, used to Negates spells or the effects of spells." She quickly answered and took her hand slowly back down.

Maura raised her hand. "It is a defensive spell that stops a spell that is currently in effect," she said quickly.

Jenn blushed slightly. "Thank you."Jenn said happily.

Mari was just getting the hang of the Expelliarmus spell when the Professor came up to her and Elizabeth, asking if they wouldn't mind performing the next spell. Mari looked over at Elizabeth and she shrugged. " Of course," She said with a confident smile, thinking to herself that it couldn't go that horribly awry, could it?

Elizabeth nodded as he told her in a low voice what the spell was. "Yes, I know it. My brother taught it to me a while back," she said in a low voice before he went back to addressing the class as a whole.

Caleum smiled and nodded his head. "If you don't mind showing the class so that those who do not know it can learn?" If there was another professor here, he would show the class with them but not with another student on this one. "And you may choose any spell you want, as long as it is within reasoning of course to use the Finite Incantatum spell against."

Asteira let out a small snicker as it was between mari and elizabeth. she loved her cousin. dont get her wrong, but she would love to see mari kick her bum. She kept quite as the professor said to keep it down. She didnt want to be on the bad side of another teacher. She leaned back in her chair as she folded her arms loosely. See what they got.

Mari really had no idea what sort of spell she or Elizabeth should use against one another and she looked to Elizabeth for inspiration. " You're better at this than I am," She said with a little smile. " What spell would you care to use? " She asked her, aware of the class watching them.

Elizabeth looked at Mari again. "I don't mind. So should one of us cast a spell and then the other use Finite Incantatem?" She didn't know if Mari knew the spell, but she'd be willing to let her cast another one for the demonstration, if that was what the professor wanted.

Mari shrugged. " Good, I suppose. I could just try Expelliarmus again, if that's easier, " She said. She shifted on her feet a bit and looked around the room, spotting Asteira. She saw her friend smiling and she felt a slight pang of uncertainty. With Asteira in the room, one could never quite tell what was going to happen next.

Caleum nodded his head towards the other Ravenclaw student. "That would be perfect," he said as he looked to the class. "Now I want everyone to pay attention to what they are doing."

Elizabeth shrugged. "I would think Protego would counteract Expelliarmus more so than Finite Incantatem. Do you know Incendio, or Incarcerous? Or do you want to be the one who casts Finite Incantatem?" She followed Mari's gaze to see that Asteira had come into class at some point, and resisted rolling her eyes. She knew her cousin was waiting for her to do something stupid.

But then the professor had said Expelliarmus was fine, so she quieted down to wait.

Mari looked over at the Professor as he directed everyone to watch her and Elizabeth. " So, I simply say the words, Finite Incantatem and that's it? No wand movement?" She asked him, unsure about this spell.

Mari shook her head. " No, I've never had to duel before. It was never an interest of mine, to be honest. But I'm learning, quickly that it's important to know," She said with a quick smile. " Yes, I'll do Finite Incantatem. I think it's the easier one out of the rest, right?" She said, holding her wand at the ready.

Caleum looked towards the student and smiled. "Wand moment is a must at this point. As you go on through your years you will learn to cast silent spells but that is another class period." Caleum chuckled then heard her speak that she had never tried dueling. "You know, this will give you good training. It is always good to learn such things as you never know when you will need them."

But as he heard the Ravenclaw Prefect speak he nodded his head as he was still slightly nervous at the moment. "You know, you are correct in what you say as Protego would counteract with Expelliarmus, but Incarcerous would be perfect." He was more afraid of someone starting a fire with the other spell if it were cast, not that he wouldn't be about to handle that spell but just at the moment, sending ropes flying would be better to him.

Dominic stood over towards the side of the room, watching the other students practice. Though the time had come for them to learn the next spell of the lesson, which was Finite. Apparently one of the prefects was supposed to demonstrate for them, so the fourth year just waited quietly, twirling his wand between his fingers.

Mari nodded as the Professor spoke and then she spoke again, this time a bit more confidently. " Very true. " She said, and then looked to Elizabeth, nodding to show her she was ready. She hoped she'd do well and not end up with something horrible happening to her.

Elizabeth was actually a little surprised when Mari said she'd never dueled before, but shrugged it off as an example of how everyone wasn't like her. And then the other girl said she'd do Finite Incantatem, so she nodded.

And then the professor answered her question. She grinned as he first said she was right about Protego, then basically said they shouldn't use Incendio. "Okay," she said. She'd use Incarcerous. Looking at Mari, she took a breath, then waved her wand. "Incarcerous!," she cast, then watched as the ropes flew out and towards Mari. She hoped they could get blocked, because she really didn't want to inadvertently tie her friend up.

Mari readied herself for Elizabeth's attack, and she was surprised to find out how nervous she really was. Of course it was worse since she was doing it in front of a large group of students who were being directed to watch her performance, but then again that only fueled her desire to do well.

She reacted immediately as Elizabeth cast her spell, and her own wand waved quickly in the air." Finite Incantatem!" She called out the spell quickly and she was greatly pleased to see that while the ropes didn't disappear altogether, most of them did. One managed to wrap itself around her wrist, and another around her ankle. She smiled brightly at Elizabeth and she lowered her wand. " That was fun." She said, shrugging a bit.

Caleum smiled as the Ravenclaw girl almost had it down but nothing a little practicing couldn't do. "Excellent, excellent," he praised the two girls. "Three points for the both of you." He then turned to the class and sighed.

"Now I want all of you to practice this spell as well. Take your time, and in no means rush in any way. This is a little harder than the last one and I want to know you have it down to perfection." He began to make his way around the room once more watching the students.

Dominic watched the two girls perform the spell and then heard Mr Myers telling them it was their turn to practice it now. That was when he realized his partner had gone missing... Raising his hand slowly, the fourth year uttered quietly, "Professor? I need a partner."

Diana was without a partner too.So,she raised her hand after Dominic and said,"Professor,I need a partner too."

Jenn smiled at Kairi and Lizzie. "Who wants to do the attacking spell and who wants to do the defensive spell?"Jenn asked excitedlly. This one would be easy too, since, like the teacher said, she had already done it before. Books came in handy.

"I'll do the attacking, you do the defending," Kairi said to Jenn, fiddling with her wand.

Jenn nodded. "O.K." she said getting into a defensive poise.

Kairi nodded and raised her wand, then muttered, "Stupeify!" and a flash of red light errupted from her wand.
