As you walk into the classroom, you notice there are not any desk set up at the moment. "Come in and place your books and things to the side," Caleum said as he is pacing the floor at the front of the classroom. On a portable chalkboard are the words 'Protection Spells' written out as this class will be about using spells that stop spells if used correctly.

Maddox was starting to feel bad because she was getting teary eyed. He decided to come out of his 'stupifiedness' by scaring Astrid. Maddox didnt mean for her to get so upset. He got up from the floor and walked over to her. "Im sorry Astrid darling, i didnt mean to scare you." He pulled her into a hug. He chuckled a little and said, "Awe c'mon it was a little funny." He held her in the hug for a moment and then let go.

Still it was Rachel's turn to practice now so she turned back to her and said, "Okay, now it's your turn. I'll cast a spell on you and you try to block it with Finite Incantatem, okay?" Gripping her wand firmly in her hand she added, "Ready? Tarantallegra!" Watching the stream of light shoot towards Rachel she wondered whether the girl would be able to stop it in time.

Rachel stared as her wand flew out of her hand. "Well done!" she said enthusiastically as the girl gave her back her wand. Just as she was about to cast the spell, they were stopped by the professor. Oh well, she thought as she turned and watched the demonstration.
Nodding, she turned back to Nancy. "Right," she said and prepared. Nancy said the spell and Rachel tightened her grip on her wand and said clearly, "Finite Incantatum!" The spell stopped about two inches from her nose. "Close one! Want to give it a go?" she said, and gave Nancy time to prepare herself. "Tarantallegra!" The spell flew towards Nancy...

Anxiously following the jet of light with her eyes waiting for it to hit Rachel Nancy was surprised when the Ravenclaw girl managed to stop the spell just about a few inches away from her face. Without realizing it at first Nancy immediately frowned looking sort of annoyed due to the spell not hitting Rachel. It had been so well-aimed. After finally noticing her narrowed eyes Nancy quickly tried to recompose her face again to make it look impressed hoping that Rachel hadn't seen her frown. She almost managed to do it. Almost. Sort of fakely grinning at Rachel she said, "Yes, that was close. Well done."

Mentally preparing herself Nancy nodded and then held her wand firmly in her hand staring in anticipation at Rachel. Watching the jet of light fly towards her she narrowed her eyes in concentration to finally shout, "Finite Incantatem!" The light just evaporated into thin air and Nancy smirked at Rachel. "So, what now? Should we give it another try?"

Rachel's eyes tightened as she noticed the girl's frown as her spell didn't hit her. Slytherin... she thought then adjusted her face into a grin as the girl congratulated her. Whatever! She watched with raised eyebrows as her spell was deflected and she grinned warmly at her, over-doing it just a little, "Wow! Well done, Nancy, you're a great spell caster! No, I think we've practiced enough, don't you?" she added rather coldly, her fake smile still plastered on her face. Her acting was good, but she had stopped pretending by now.

"I hope there aren't any after effects...though it would be funny if you went around laughing in the face of anyone who talked to you." Maura grinned at the mental image. "Um, I really don't care. What do you want to do?"

It was impossible to miss the sarcastic undertone as Rachel congratulated Nancy. Ravenclaws... Nancy just continued to smirk at the girl then raising her eyebrows in false modesty saying in fake sweet voice, "Why, thank you! I'm glad you think so." She didn't return the compliment on purpose although she thought that Rachel had been just as good as herself.

Her face fell a bit, on purpose of course, as Rachel said that they wouldn't be going on with practicing, though. "Oh, that's a shame. I really would have liked to have another go." And that time she would be quicker than Rachel. Oh how she would love to see her dance or doing something else as embarrassing as that. A dangerous twinkling in her eyes had appeared as Nancy turned around to get her bags very, very slowly.

Rachel smiled a sickly sweet smile at Nancy. Way to go, Rachel! You practically picked the worst partner ever! "Yes, well, some of us actually have other things to do other than uselessly practice spells they already know," she said sweetly. The fake sweet smile was still on her face as she too went to get her bags. And here I thought Slytherins could actually be nice... Oh well.

Yuck! Seriously slimy Slytherin alert! she thought as she took her bag and walked to the door. She heard what Nancy had said and turned, "Oh yes, it was really lovely to meet you too. I really hope we get another chance to talk," she said, smiling innocently. She wouldn't stoop to her level by smirking. "Bye, Nancy, have a wonderful day," she waved at Nancy's retreating form. Ugh! she shuddered as she too left the classroom, let's hope I never have to meet her again!

Laylee thought about all she had today... "Um we can either go to the Dueling area, or go do homework! Both sound fun!" Laylee said smiling.

Astrid wiped away the few tears from her eyes and looked up at Maddox as he came over to her. She reached up to him and hugged him back fiercely, happy that he really was okay. He smiled once he got to the door. "Of course im coming you silly girl, it was my idea wasnt it?" He grinned and winked at her. "So lets go." He walked out the door, pointed at her, then did the "come here" gesture with his index finger.

Cordina, grimacing over the weight of her great-great-great-grandfathers spell book, quickly sat down. she thumbed eagerly through it cause she never actually read it. some spells were in type and others in ink as though made up by him.The professor clapped to call them to order. She closed her book with a thud.
