As you walk down to the grounds you see a huge bonfire, surrounded by wooden seats. Sophie is standing nearby; her pink skirt was blowing in the icy wind. Around her neck was her favourite lion tooth necklace.

It was freezing, so she stood as close to the fire as possible, waiting for the students to arrive. "Come around the fire, but don't get too close." She warned. "I hope you all brought your protective gloves, as you'll be needing them." Sophie added with a shifty smile.

Anna raised her hand. "Professor, wizards kill them for their shell. They use the shell for cauldrons."

"They are in danger because of how much Muggles would want there jeweled shells, and how wizards would use there shells dor cauldrons." she said.

"Der shells are pretty colours, abnd dey can withstand high temperatures, so dey make good cauldrons." Torie was pleased she had remembered something about these weird turtle thingys.

Punz grinned at Lima, since her question was answered by the Professor merely moments after the girl spoke, and raised her hand. "Firecrabs are in danger because their sparkly, jeweled shell attracts Muggles and some wizards would rather use the shell for a cauldron." And that was weird to Punzel, who would much rather have a sparkly pet firecrab instead of a funky crab-shell-cauldron thingy.

"Very good. I see you have all been reading your textbooks. You all seem to know the answers off by heart. Two points each!"

"Now, creatures who are under a lot of danger find ways of protecting themselves. How do fire crabs defend themselves. You have already mentioned shooting fire, but what else could help them." Sophie asked.

Ella smiled at Zel, before raised her hand again, "because Muggles value their jewels, and Wizards use their shells as cauldrons. Moreover..the magical creatures are always fancy to muggles and they face the danger all the time for various reason.." she said, worried abt those poor unprotective creatures.

"Dey can retreat inside der shells, like turtles dob. Dat's one way. Den der is der fire abilities..ah...ah....CHOOO!!!!!!" sneezed Torie by way of an answer. She quickly pulled a hanky from her pocket and tried to blow her nose as quietly as possible, but still wound up sounding like a fog horn. "Excuse meb." said Torie.

Anna raised her hand to reply. "Some of them have stingers, Professor. Also, the females have the ability to suck blood. Over time, they develop a shiny armor-like shell to protect them, as well."

Miranda raised her hand, she wasnt sure, but it was good taking risks...or chances "Professor, could it be like the turles do it, hiding inside their shell home, being protected by its strong exterior?" why not, she mentally shrugged...

Cale raised his hand, "Well, in Fiji, where they originate, a bunch of coast as been turned into a reservation to protect the fire crabs from anyone who might try to harm them or take their shell." he answered. "So that would be like getting OUTSIDE help to protect themselves."

What else...what else....Punz tapped her chin with her finger and tried to think of something a large, turtley-looking creature could use for defense. "Um, maybe they can swim? Or scuttlewalk really fast?" she guessed, raising her hand. "Yeah, perhaps firecrabs are naturally fast on their feet and they just use their bums' firepack like a rocket booster, to zoom away from someone trying to catch them. Or maybe they have super-sharp teeth and can snap at Muggle tourists' ankles...."

That might've been her wildest guess yet but Rapunzel could not remember what her textbook said on this matter and she didn't fancy digging around in her bag for the book. Not when it was this cold out.

Listening to the other students ramble on about fire crabs was to no end starting to put Dominic to sleep at a slow rate. Sighing quietly, he listened as the professor asked about them defending themselves. Raising his hand lazily, the fourth year spoke, "Well fire crabs i would imagine would also use their jeweled shell as a defense mechanism. Being that the creatures are native to Fiji, where it is often sunny, the fire crabs would use their jeweled shell as a resource to reflect sunlight into the eyes of those who try to harm them. This might in effect blind them... A useful tool, no?" Surely he wouldn't mind blinding people with just your back. Quite amusing actually, it would be.

"They spit fire too?!" Rapunzel gasped out loud. Could that be what the Professor was thinking of? No wait, it had to be the second half of their name...

"Do firecrabs have great big pincer, claw thingies like ordinary crabs?" Punz raised her hand and guessed again.
