CoMC- Class 1 The sun was shining, the grounds was as green as could be. Basically it was a beautiful day for a CoMC lesson. As you walk over to where the class is being held, you see wooden logs set up in a semi circle. Sophie stands at the front with a huge smile on her face, just waiting to get started. "Come on over and find a log everyone. I will be starting in a few minutes." She calls. |
Allie walked to class, and took a seat on the log. "Hello Professor!" she said. "Its a beautiful day, isnt it?" |
Anna strolled out onto the grounds, practically bouncing in excitement. Professor Brooks class was always---ALWAYS---a treat! Anna got along so well with the professor, and she even looked up to her a good deal. She'd been waiting for a while for this class to start. After admiring the beautiful day, Anna looked over to see a group of wooden logs set up in a semi-circle fashion, with Professor Brooks standing right at the front. Anna flashed a smile in the professor's direction and then took a seat on a log nearby Professor Brooks. "Good day, Professor Brooks," Anna greeted. |
At last, the first care of magical creatures lesson. Valentine was exicted for this class most of all. And it seemed as though it took forever for it to come. But now it was. Valentine had a small smiled across her face as she walked over to the semi circle of logs, finding one close to where the teacher stood so she could pay more attention. Close is better than far after all. |
Astrid walked over to a log in the middle of the circle. As she sat down, she waved at the Professor and said, "Good afternoon Professor Brooks. How are you today?" |
Camira walked over to the professor. "Hello, Professor Brooks", she said cheerfully. "How was your summer?" She actually liked this class, as long as there were no kneasles involved. She heard the professor's instructions and walked over to a log and sat down on it. Not the most comfortable thing, but it was better than standing. |
For Issy, it had been a while since she'd last visited Professor Brooks who just so happened to be one of her favorite professors ever, and not just because of the flying abraxans, the marshmallows, and the Hogwarts Brigade. However, these were admittedly large factors in the situation. Still. Visiting Professor Brooks, class or not, felt a little strange, because Issy was not with Juni. Juni was always by her side whenever they went to see the Professor or attended any of the classes. Deep down, it made her just a little... bittersweet. Still, she made her way to one of the little log benches and dropped her bag upon the seat. "Hullo, Professor," she greeted Professor Brooks, waving her fingers in a twinkling fashion. |
Dominic strode out onto the grounds for he heard Care of Magical Creatures class was going to begin shortly. It wasn't the creatures that he minded - he found them quite interesting. Rather it was the apparent glow on this Professor's face which had him alarmed. Honestly, what was the need for her to be so.... so... cheerful. Sighing, he walked over towards a log, away from where the two gryffindors were and stared at. Sit on it!? Oh no. He was not having a campfire with these crazies! |

Ariana walked along briskly, trying to keep warm as she smiled at professor Brooks. "Hello Professor!" she said happily, a warm grin on her face as she sat down on a log and put down her bag. She sat quietly, wondering what the lesson would be about. |
Elizabeth walked out onto the grounds as she started to wonder what they were going to learn in CoMC. Finally, she got to class to see several students already there, along with the professor. Smiling at Professor Brooks, she said, cheerfully, "Hi Professor Brooks. It's really gorgeous out here today, isn't it? I love when the weather's like this." She made her way over to the logs, finding a seat not far from Anna and one of her fellow Ravies. |

Ross noticed astrid sitting on a log so he decided that he should walk over and sit beside her. On his way to his seat he waved to professor brooks and shouted "Hey, miss" |
Uh. Care of Magical Creatures. Great. After having taken her sweet time to comb her long hair, and putting a navy blue head band on it just do decorate it, clean her already immaculate shoes, checking to see if she had all the neccesary materials for Care of Magical Creatures, and doing many, many things that weren't neccesary for her to do --she was stalling. She didn't want to go to Care of Magical Creatures, obvious-- Willow, looking rather defeated, wandered out of the castle, and headed to the place where the class would take place. Well--at least the sun was shinning. This was a good thing, considering that the fourth year was in need for tan. So pale her skin was right now, that it was beginning to freak her out a bit. Noticing Iss--Isabella (Willow had to remind herself that Issy was not her real name, and that it was a nickname) the fifteen year old made her way swiftly towards her frien and took seat beside her, before placing her messenger bag on her lap. "Hey, Isabella," greeted Willow easily, with a half smile. "Hello, Professor Brooks!" said the girl remembering she had not greeted her Care of Magical Creatures professor. |
Wow, before she knew it the class was filling up. It was exciting to have so many eager students. Sophie continued to wave and say her greeting. Quote:

This was the first time Sophie taught boys; she looked around to see a few of them, one looking not too impressed. She hoped they'd be as friendly and easy to teach as the girls last year. |
Qaz plopped down on a log...not the most graceful of girls. It was a beautiful day to be outside. |
Asteira made her way down to the magical creatures class as she couldnt wait. This was pretty much her favorite class and she hoped that she wouldnt screw it up like the others. Which werent her fault, may she add. "Hello Professor." she said with a grin as she waited for some further instructions. |

Seeming has how he had little choice in the matter, Dominic carefully sat down on the log. He'd need to scourgify his robes later for any griminess that would appear there from Merlin only knows where these logs had been before! Waiting quietly, he gazed around as the logs started filling up with students... |
Molly made her way over to the class and quickly found an empty spot on a log as far away from the professor as she could. |
Quote:
"Take a seat...well log. Just a few more minutes. Can anyone guess what we are studying? I'll give you a hint. They will match the grass." |
Match the grass? But how in the name of Canaries were they supposed to see them or even work with them. Shrugging, Dominic thought of small creatures that they could possibly be studying. He raised his hand timidly and spoke in response to her question. "Could it be bundimuns? They are small and resemble greenish fungus with eyes. Or maybe bowtruckles, but they more blend in with the trees than the grass..." |
Camira raised her hand. "Could it be a boomslang? The females are green. Or maybe a clabbert?" She had no idea if the animal was green or if it could blend in with whatever. |
Quote:
|
Qaz raised her hand and replied, 'A moke is silver-green...that would blend in with grass.' |

"Ok I think it is time to start. Before we do, I'd like to know what you have all studied before. Especially the boys, since I didn't teach you last term. |

Astrid raised her hand and said, "Ma'am, last term we went over those gorgeous Abraxans. It was amazing. And also those evil, funny little gnomes." she said with a giggle. |
Quote:
Dominic showed no sign of disappointment when was incorrect; he didn't expect to be able to know what creature it was this woman was referring to. Especially cause women like talking in circles, never giving them the full picture. Clabberts. He heard of those, but didn't they also dwell in trees and she said grass. Ah, there it goes with the circles again. Before they started though, the Professor asked the boys what they've studied before. Bwaha, that question was amusing. Raising his hand again, he spoke up, noticing there weren't many boys in the class. "This is my first time officially in school, as I transferred, but at home, i never studied from books or anything. It was more just me observing creatures and their behaviors." |
Quote:
"Erm - well, last term some greedy bloke taught us about Nifflers... but then again, I wouldn't really call that teaching.." Clifford trailed off and scratched his chin thoughtfully. Well, the Gryffindors and Hufflepuffs had learned how to clean stinky cages! |
Ross decided that he was going to tell the truth this term so sticking his hand up in the air he said "To be honest miss i did not pay attention in class last year but i will pay attention this year" He said hoping that astrid would not divert his eyes. |
Quote:
|
Ari didn't answer the question since others had done so already. She knew what she wanted to study, but of course that would have to wait until she was officially out of school. Well, there was that one class a few terms back that really caught her attention. shaking the memory of the giganatic dragon out her her mind she concentrated on the here and now. |
Lucas sat on his log excited about his first CoMC class. He was so good at the subject he couldn't wait to get started. |
Sophie had meant what had they studied in other years...not last year but that didn't matter now. She shook her hair at the boy's old CoMC professor, they sure had a lot to catch up on. That man was a disgrace. "So, who can tell me what Clabbert's are?" Sophie asked the class. |
"A clabbert is a tree dwelling creature, in appearance of something like a cross between a monkey and a frog," Dominic recalled, after raising his hand. |
Quote:
|
"Uhm - They're these creature thingymabobs that are sorta a cross between monkey's and frog's, ain't they Miss?" Cliffird tried, hand in the air. |
Quote:
Astrid raised her hand and said, "The clabbert is an arboreal creature that resembles a cross between a monkey and a frog. Its smooth skin is mottled green. The Clabbert has short horns and a wide grinning mouth. Its long arms and webbed hands and feet allow it to move gracefully through the trees. On the Clabbert's forehead is a large pustule which flashes red when the Clabbert senses the approach of danger, including Muggles." |
"Clabberts are arboreal creatures, Professor." Evangeline answered, after raising her hand in the hand. "They look like a cross between a frog and a monkey, they have mottled green skin, horns and a grinning mouth. Also, they have a large pustule on their foreheads which flashes red when the Clabbert senses the approach of danger, including Muggles." |
Ross had remembered reading this in a book some time so he stuck his hand up and tried to remember "Erm.... A Clabbert is an arboreal creature that resembles a cross between a monkey and a frog. Its smooth skin is mottled green, and it has short horns and a wide grinning mouth full of razor sharp teeth. Its long arms and webbed hands and feet allow it to move gracefully through the trees. On the Clabbert's forehead is a large pustule which flashes red when the Clabbert senses danger. " he said "i think thats right professor" |
Camira raised her hand. "It is a cross between a monkey and a frog and is partial to trees. They are native to the Southern United States, and feed on lizards and small birds and depend on the pustule in the middle of their forehead to alert them to danger." |
Ariana giggled slightly as she heard what they were studying. "Oh those green monkeys!" she exclaimed, grinning widely as she practically bounced up and down on her log. Oh she loved Clabberts! |

Laylee was sitting on a log with her CoMC text book, a notebook, and a quill. She smiled as the lesson actually began. She had been excited about this class. She had missed in over the summer. She wrote down Clabberts and the few things about them she knew and then waited for the professor to begin. |

"Like Anna and a few others have mentioned. The clabberts have a pustule on their forehead. This is a fantastic survival tool. Back in the day, witches and Wizards used to hunt these creatures and use them to sense danger for themselves. What affect do you think this has had on clabberts? Feel free to be creative in your answers. I want to know what you think." Sophie said, looking for creativeness. |
Ross thought about it for a second the answered "Does it mean that they have been domesticated at a extent but the ones that are still wild will probably fear all wizards" |
Quote:
|
Dominic sighed thoughtfully when the Professor told of how wizards and witches used to hunt clabberts. How depressing! Hand in the air again, the fourth year spoke of the affect this may have had on the clabberts, even if he thought it was pointless since he could in no way know what Clabberts could be thinking. "Well, naturally we don't actually know the effect this had on Clabberts, but I would think they would be very untrusting of wizards and witches. Perhaps think we're superior." |
Camira thought a moment before raising her hand. "I think it could have resulted in domestication, if many of the clabberts were caught. I also think that as a direct result of domestication, if it indeed happened, it might have desensitized the pustule a bit. Domestication makes for a safer environment, after all. I'm also not quite sure how witches and wizards used the clabberts because wouldn't the clabbert only sense what it felt was a danger to itself and not what was a danger to the witch or wizard?" She was actually quite curious about that. |
Ella grinned widely at the thought of Clabbert. Her hand raised up in the air, "They are a cross between an amphibian (frog) and a monkey, with a horn. They are described as being hairless, with smooth, mottled green skin, and webbed hands and feet, and long limbs that are good for climbing and swinging. Clabberts are native to the Southern United States, live in trees and feed mostly on lizards and small birds. They possess a pustule in the middle of their forehead that glows red and flashes in the presence of danger, Professor," she said, twirling the quill in the other hand. |
Quote:
|
Anna thought about the professor's question a moment and then raised her hand. "This couldn't have been good for the clabberts, Professor," she said. "Anytime a human takes a creature out of its natural environment, there is a huge chance that you will unintentionally harm or even kill the creature. I've read where the clabbert feeds mostly on small lizards and birds. There can't be too many opportunities for the clabberts to obtain that type of food when a human has them pretty much imprisoned. Also, I don't think this would end up being very useful to the wizards. If imprisoned, a clabbert is likely to feel threatened by the wizard...so their postule would flash just by being around the wizard alone," she said. |

Half frog, half monkey creatures. How AWESOME! Clifford didn't normally like this class. Creatures were annoying and did unexpected things.. they deserved a good, hard poke sometimes. He was VERY glad he'd missed that lesson on gnomes last term. Shudder. "Well, I bet the Clabbertywhatsits didn't like it much.." Clifford tried, hand in the air. "They prolly just wanted to go play in the trees and go about their ickle clabberty ways. If I was a clabbert, I wouldn't trust the witches and wizards anymore. I'd try set off my pustule thingy just to annoy 'em." HAH! |

"Yes...but no. They witches and wizards used to use the clabberts. Soon they saw their owners as dangerous, so they were always flashing red. Eventually they became useless to the humans and were tossed back to the wild. Quote:
"A point to everyone who answered." She said. "The International Confederation of Wizards started to fine those who kept clabberts in sight of muggles. Why do you think that is?" Sophie asked. |
Anna raised her hand and said, "The sight of a tree at nightfull of glowing postules attracted too many muggles who were wondering why there were Christmas lights up during the non-holiday season." |
"Because they cause too much unwanted attention by appearing to have their 'Christmas lights' up in mid-summer," said Willow, her hand in the air. |
"They did it cause the Muggle people started to get suspicious, Miss." Clifford said, hand in the air. "I mean, a tree full of these glowing pustules thingies must've looked pretty odd to them, right?" |
Lucas raised his hand again. "Well because they looked like grass and it would had looked silly for someone to run around waving grass all over the place. It would have drawn attention to them and muggles would have asked questions." he said. |
"The started to fine them as if you were to see them at night you would think that they were christmas lights and would start to get curious" He said quickly |
Wait. What? Wizards were actually allowing muggles to see the clabberts? She raised her hand. "Professor, could it be because it was exposing muggles to something magical? It's just like how wizards can't use magic in front of muggles unless it's a life and death situation. Besides, wouldn't the muggles get excited by seeing a creature they'd never seen before? They might start searching for them and whatnot." She had no clue if that was right or not, but she sure hoped that didn't happen. |
Astrid smiled and raised her hand again, "Because it was way too suspicious, having what looked like Christmas lights shining all year round." |
Allie riased her hand. "Maybe because, when Muggles saw a bunch of these wierd monkey-frog things, with glowing things on there forhead, they got suspicous." she said. "And they could call someone to check it out, and a bunch of bad things would happen, which means alot of work for the ministry." |
"Because it was dangerous," Dominic said once more, raising his hand. "Especially with the pustules, detecting danger. This would leave muggles suspicious of what Christmas lights were doing in the non-holiday season and thus would cause the Clabberts to be even more suspicious of the muggles and lead to attack, possibly even death." |
Quote:
"Ok, well I have a little treat for you all." Sophie smiled. "I have been working on gathering a small group of clabberts. These ones are more trusting because I've been working on gaining their trust. However they might be a little scared because there is so many of you. I'd like you all to be as friendly as possible. " She said, knowing that they would be. "Are you ready to meet the clabberts? |
Quote:
|
Lucas clapped his hand together in delight. "Yes ma'am." he responded. |
Dominic inclined his head and nodded slightly. Sure he was ready; like he had a choice in the matter. |
Quote:
"Yes!" she said. |
Camira bounced on the log a bit. She couldn't wait. Real life actual clabberts. This class was so much fun. |
Sophie turned to where the forest was and called out to the group of clabberts. Slowly they started to make their way over to the group of students, however they stood a few meters back. Hovering, and waiting to see if the students meant no harm. “Ok, I want you to pair up and then find a clabbert. Just slowly approach them, with smiles and they will understand that you are friendly. Once you have done so, I will give you more instructions.” “Any questions?” Sophie asked? |
Meet the Clabberts? Her? Say WHAT? No. There was absolutely no way she would be meeting those creatures. No, Willow would not do that. No way. They would have to force her to do so, if Professor Brooks felt like doing that. Willow detested animals. With passion. Stinky little creatures. Chaos creators! "Sure, ma'am." Sigh. Like if she could actually dare to defy a teacher. Snort. Willow was too much of a coward to do that. She was not a Gryffindor, after all; bravery was something the Ravenclaw did not possessed. Cringing on her seat at the sight of the Clabberts, Willow's eyes opened wide at the creatures. A partner? Were they going to have to touch them? Oh no. |
Anna watched in amazement as a group of clabberts ran from the forest and almost right up to them. This was amazing! She'd never seen one before, but they ended up looking just like she always imagined them to look. Anna noticed that they stood a good ways back, no doubt waiting to see if they should light their postules to indicate they felt threated. Anna then began to look around in search of a partner. |
Quote:
|
Wait what?! They had to partner up? Oh no! This was one part that Dominic was not anticipating. Sighing quietly, his eyes gazed around the class of logs in search of someone who seemed equally as little anxious as he was to meet the creatures. Besides, two students not anxious to meet the clabberts would mean the clabberts would be afraid and then they wouldn't have to do anything at all. Ah, the logic of Dominic Denton... |
Astrid stood up and grabbed Allie's hand. "Partners?" she teased. "Come on, let's go." She walked slowly over to a cute, little clabbert and quietly said, "Hey there honey! HI!" Then she gave it the sweetest smile she could. |
Quote:
|
Asteira looked around to see who she all knew in the class. she should really get out more. she looked to see willow without a partner either. She was nice...She would make a good partner. She made her way over to willow as she asked," Hey willow, want to be partners?" |
'Come on guys. I wish you could see your faces." Sophie laughed. "They are not going to eat you. I assure you that they are more frightened of you. Just partner up for now and I’ll walk through looking after the clabberts step by step. How does that sound?" |
Quote:
"Hey there. Aww, your so cute!" she said, smiling. It was so cute. |
Quote:
The clabbert Astrid approach, jumped back and hid behind the others. "Woahh..not so fast there, slowly move back and we will try again as a class." Sophie said. |

Qaz watched from behind the others...she was more of a cat and dog person...these creatures were a bit...strange.... |
Quote:
"I-- well," he looked hesitantly around towards the other students, hoping a partnerless male would spring up out of the blue. Too many females. Then he heard the Professor telling them to just partner up, so the fourth year nodded. "Suppose we don't have much a choice, eh?" He gave her the smallest of smiles to show his appreciation and then realized they should probably learn each other's names. "Name's Dominic. Fourth year Hufflepuff. Seeker." he told her, standing up and waiting for further instructions about meeting the clabberts. |
Quote:
"That's ok. Just remember, being slow is key. And it is best to let the creature come to you." Sophie said, she really should have mentioned that before. "Which pair would like to show the class how it is done?" |
Quote:
she turned her attention to the teacher as she asked who would like to go first." We will." she told the professor. |
Quote:
Astrid raised her hand timidly and said, "I would really like to try again, if that's okay with you, ma'am." |
Quote:
|
Ella looked around for the partner, not finding anyone successfully, "Professor, Cant we do this without a partner?" she asked, confusingly. May be the professor can help she thought. |
Quote:
Oooh, volunteering. She wanted to raise her hand, but she somehow got the feeling that Dominic wasn’t to keen on the clabberts so she just waited to see who would be picked. |
Dominic looked towards chocolate thrower and back towards the Professor. "We'll demonstrate to the class," he said volunteering them, as he was sure the girl wouldn't mind. Quote:
Dominic was sure he saw the hint of surprise on her face when he said he would. Ah - surprising people was always fun. He chuckled to himself when she commented on his names and then introduced herself as well. "Camira? Well, that's ... suitable as well." He snickered again when she added on potions genius. Someone was conceded, definitely. And it wasn't him.... this time. |

"You'll get another chance, don't worry." Sophie said encouragingly. "Ok, Willow and Asteria. I'd like you to take a few steps closer to the clabberts. Don't move too quickly, and if they move back, take a few steps back. They are not dangerous, however they may run away." Sophie instructed. |
Quote:
A half smile that did not last long, for as soon as she heard Asteira's offer, her eyes attempted to come out of its orbits. Going first? NOOOO. "What are you doing?!" Willow murmured desperately. She could not go first! It was too late, though. Professor Brooks had heard Asteira. Great. Just great. Not. "Okay, ma'am," said girl in a whisper. Not dangerous? Yeah, right, All animals were dangerous. She was not about to say that, though. Slowly, and looking very hesitant, Willow five steps towards the clabberts and waited for her partner to do the same thing. |
