Camira thought a moment before raising her hand. "I think it could have resulted in domestication, if many of the clabberts were caught. I also think that as a direct result of domestication, if it indeed happened, it might have desensitized the pustule a bit. Domestication makes for a safer environment, after all. I'm also not quite sure how witches and wizards used the clabberts because wouldn't the clabbert only sense what it felt was a danger to itself and not what was a danger to the witch or wizard?" She was actually quite curious about that.

Ella grinned widely at the thought of Clabbert.Her hand raised up in the air, "They are a cross between an amphibian (frog) and a monkey, with a horn. They are described as being hairless, with smooth, mottled green skin, and webbed hands and feet, and long limbs that are good for climbing and swinging.

Clabberts are native to the Southern United States, live in trees and feed mostly on lizards and small birds. They possess a pustule in the middle of their forehead that glows red and flashes in the presence of danger, Professor," she said, twirling the quill in the other hand.

Astrid raised her hand and guessed, "Professor, I think that any time people are hunting and domesticating creatures for their own needs, that in endangers the survival of that particular species. It also might have changed the way that they lived. Did they have to go into hiding, the poor little dears?"

Anna thought about the professor's question a moment and then raised her hand. "This couldn't have been good for the clabberts, Professor," she said. "Anytime a human takes a creature out of its natural environment, there is a huge chance that you will unintentionally harm or even kill the creature. I've read where the clabbert feeds mostly on small lizards and birds. There can't be too many opportunities for the clabberts to obtain that type of food when a human has them pretty much imprisoned. Also, I don't think this would end up being very useful to the wizards. If imprisoned, a clabbert is likely to feel threatened by the wizard...so their postule would flash just by being around the wizard alone," she said.

"Well if the pustles tell you if danger is coming, wouldn't it help them to survuve?" she said. "Like tell them if a predator is coming, so they can run away."

Half frog, half monkey creatures. How AWESOME! Clifford didn't normally like this class. Creatures were annoying and did unexpected things.. they deserved a good, hard poke sometimes. He was VERY glad he'd missed that lesson on gnomes last term. Shudder.

"Well, I bet the Clabbertywhatsits didn't like it much.." Clifford tried, hand in the air. "They prolly just wanted to go play in the trees and go about their ickle clabberty ways. If I was a clabbert, I wouldn't trust the witches and wizards anymore. I'd try set off my pustule thingy just to annoy 'em." HAH!

"In a way...yes" Sophie answered.

Sophie nodded, "The indeed were scared."

"That's right. Which also means they might not trust us."



"Exactly. And do you think they knew what to feed the clabberts? Of course not. They started to die out. Also they started to lose their ability to hunt and look after themselves. Living in the wild became a challenge."


"Yes...but no. They witches and wizards used to use the clabberts. Soon they saw their owners as dangerous, so they were always flashing red. Eventually they became useless to the humans and were tossed back to the wild.

"Good answer. 3 points for you. They started to hide. Became endangered. At one point, there were no more clabberts to be found." Sophie said sadly.

"A point to everyone who answered." She said. "The International Confederation of Wizards started to fine those who kept clabberts in sight of muggles. Why do you think that is?" Sophie asked.

Anna raised her hand and said, "The sight of a tree at nightfull of glowing postules attracted too many muggles who were wondering why there were Christmas lights up during the non-holiday season."

"Because they cause too much unwanted attention by appearing to have their 'Christmas lights' up in mid-summer," said Willow, her hand in the air.

"They did it cause the Muggle people started to get suspicious, Miss." Clifford said, hand in the air. "I mean, a tree full of these glowing pustules thingies must've looked pretty odd to them, right?"

Lucas raised his hand again. "Well because they looked like grass and it would had looked silly for someone to run around waving grass all over the place. It would have drawn attention to them and muggles would have asked questions." he said.

"The started to fine them as if you were to see them at night you would think that they were christmas lights and would start to get curious" He said quickly

Wait. What? Wizards were actually allowing muggles to see the clabberts? She raised her hand. "Professor, could it be because it was exposing muggles to something magical? It's just like how wizards can't use magic in front of muggles unless it's a life and death situation. Besides, wouldn't the muggles get excited by seeing a creature they'd never seen before? They might start searching for them and whatnot." She had no clue if that was right or not, but she sure hoped that didn't happen.

Astrid smiled and raised her hand again, "Because it was way too suspicious, having what looked like Christmas lights shining all year round."

Allie riased her hand.
"Maybe because, when Muggles saw a bunch of these wierd monkey-frog things, with glowing things on there forhead, they got suspicous." she said. "And they could call someone to check it out, and a bunch of bad things would happen, which means alot of work for the ministry."

"Because it was dangerous," Dominic said once more, raising his hand. "Especially with the pustules, detecting danger. This would leave muggles suspicious of what Christmas lights were doing in the non-holiday season and thus would cause the Clabberts to be even more suspicious of the muggles and lead to attack, possibly even death."

"Correct! That's three points to you for being so fast Anna." She looked to the rest of the class, feeling generous today, "And one point to everyone else who answered."

"Ok, well I have a little treat for you all." Sophie smiled. "I have been working on gathering a small group of clabberts. These ones are more trusting because I've been working on gaining their trust. However they might be a little scared because there is so many of you. I'd like you all to be as friendly as possible. " She said, knowing that they would be. "Are you ready to meet the clabberts?

Anna looked up at the professor and smiled. "Thanks," she said, grateful for the house points. "I can't wait to meet the clabberts! Hopefully their postules won't flash, and they'll realize we mean no harm!"

Lucas clapped his hand together in delight. "Yes ma'am." he responded.

Dominic inclined his head and nodded slightly. Sure he was ready; like he had a choice in the matter.

Allie smiled. She was exrremly excited about seeing them.
"Yes!" she said.

Camira bounced on the log a bit. She couldn't wait. Real life actual clabberts. This class was so much fun.

Sophie turned to where the forest was and called out to the group of clabberts. Slowly they started to make their way over to the group of students, however they stood a few meters back. Hovering, and waiting to see if the students meant no harm. “Ok, I want you to pair up and then find a clabbert. Just slowly approach them, with smiles and they will understand that you are friendly. Once you have done so, I will give you more instructions.”

“Any questions?” Sophie asked?

Meet the Clabberts? Her? Say WHAT?

No. There was absolutely no way she would be meeting those creatures. No, Willow would not do that. No way. They would have to force her to do so, if Professor Brooks felt like doing that.

Willow detested animals. With passion. Stinky little creatures. Chaos creators!

"Sure, ma'am." Sigh. Like if she could actually dare to defy a teacher. Snort. Willow was too much of a coward to do that. She was not a Gryffindor, after all; bravery was something the Ravenclaw did not possessed.

Cringing on her seat at the sight of the Clabberts, Willow's eyes opened wide at the creatures. A partner? Were they going to have to touch them?

Oh no.

Anna watched in amazement as a group of clabberts ran from the forest and almost right up to them. This was amazing! She'd never seen one before, but they ended up looking just like she always imagined them to look. Anna noticed that they stood a good ways back, no doubt waiting to see if they should light their postules to indicate they felt threated. Anna then began to look around in search of a partner.
