Professor Shackleton entered the Charms classroom very slowly. Though she knew that Professor Hawkins would not be in there, she felt the need to let her eyes search the room for her. Convinced the room was empty, Professor Shackleton entered with two very large bags in hand, the odor from which was rather unpleasant, almost stinky feet-like.
As she reached the front of the room, Macadrian pulled a small rectangular table closer to her, laid out a blue checkered tablecloth and placed upon it the following items: two bottles of milk and two silver platters with dome-shaped coverings hiding their content.
She then stood beside the table, rocking slightly forward and back, anxiously waiting for students to arrive, knowing that all would be inquisitive about her presence in the Charms classroom, and more likely, Professor Hawkins absence. | |

Astrid walked through the doors of the Charms classroom, prepared to have a little fun. When she spotted Professor Shackleton, she stopped dead in her tracks and gave her a curious look. "Hi Professor Shackleton! How are you, ma'am?" she asked cheerfully. Then she slowly took a seat up front, still somewhat confused.

Dominic entered the charms classroom wearily, but the first thing he noticed when he entered was that his head of house was there instead of Professor Hawkins. Well that's odd... It seemed he was unable to evade Shackleton and her cookies; like karma was coming back to bite him in the bum. Shaking his head, the fourth year settled for a seat in the third row and awaited to see what Shackleton would bring to the Charms lesson. And perhaps an explanation for Hawkins absence.

Jillian strode into the room with a big grin. "I Have arrived!" she announced. "Hello there Professor...Shackleton?" she blinked. This was the Charms classroom wasn't it? So where was Professor Hawkins? Odd.
Jillian slowly made her way further into the classroom and took a seat. Her curious mind was already asking a million questions per mili-second but she knew better than to pry. Daphne had stated in one of their etiquette lessons that prying was unlady-like and very rude. But...thinking the questions wasn't bad, right? She hoped her facial expression didn't give away too much of her inquisitions.

Ryan had an extra skip in his step as he made his way to charms. Not only was it his favorite subject (other than flying, of course), but his team had just won its first quidditch match of the year. There were two things to be happy about.
He happily popped his head into the charms classroom and stopped abruptly. What was the arithmancy professor doing there? He decided it would be best to keep all questions to himself, though. He didn't want to repeat the same question everyone else was going to ask.
Instead, he opted for a nice, polite, "Er....hello, professor." | |

Anna walked into the room with a somber expression on her face. Professor Hawkins wasn't here today, and she'd always been one of Anna's favorite professors. Sure, Professor Shackleton was wonderful, but just the fact that it should have been Professor Hawkins standing in the front of the classroom right now just made things....well, depressing. "Good day, Professor Shackleton," Anna mumbled, giving the professor a halfway smile. She shrugged a little and then turned to go find a seat somewhere in the classroom.

Charms charms charms! Rapunzel hummed to herself, skipping to her next lesson. She absolutely loved this subject and no wonder - she was great at it!
She wasn't so great at arithmancy though, and her first thought upon entering the room was that she had the wrong classroom....after all, Professor Shackleton didn't look to happy.
Uh oh...I really should have turned in that last assignment, Punz thought, gulping as she took a seat near Ryan. She refrained from saying anything, however, and just nodded politely at her Head of House. Shackleton was a great teacher, sure, but Punzel was just horrible with numbers. If today's lesson had any math involved, Charms was just not going to be Rapunzel's favorite subject anymore.

Miranda walked into the classroom and saw students already inside. Stopping for a second, she scanned the room, found an empty seat and headed towards it. She sat down and saw another woman, who wasnt her professor at the front. Quickly she looked around, Am I in the right place? she wondered as she tried to see if she remembered anyone else from this class. Well yes, this seemed to be the r ight class.
Shrugging, she waited for the class to start.

"Good day professor Shackleton!" she said in a small voice, blushing terribly at even daring to address the lady. "Where's professor Hawkins?" she continued on before losing her nerve. Babbling to a teacher just wouldn't do, now would it? Being a Firstie made her terribly shy and awkward, and hoped the professor would understand her plight.

Macadrian smiled at each student who entered the classroom, processing their facial expressions and determining that nearly all were suprised to see her, and at least half seemed disappointed. They probably all thought she didn't know how to use a wand, what with her spending so much time with a quill in her hand calculating numbers. Well, maybe they'd be convinced otherwise by the end of this lesson.
She announced, "Good afternoon. I'm sure you're all surprised to see me here instead of Professor Hawkins. She's had to leave Hogwarts for a short time to attend to some personal matters, and so Headmistress Rae has requested that I substitute for her. I have not been given much more information than that, and so unfortunately, I cannot provide you with any additional information either. But, what I can provide you with is, what will hopefully be, a fun and entertaining lesson."
Professor Shackleton walked behind the table and gestured to the items laid out on the tablecloth, "I'd like for everyone to try to guess what is under these lids based on the smell. Any ideas?" She was amazed that most of the students hadn't seem to notice or comment on the pungency of the odor. She could barely handle carrying the items over to the classroom from the kitchens.

Allie hadn't noticed the smell until the Professor had pointed it out, which was odd, because it smelled horrible.
She raised her hand.
"I don't know, maybe rotten eggs?" said Allie, cover her nose, to try and not smell the air.

Guess the smell? Rapunzel wrinkled her nose and leaned back in her chair a little...awwwaaay from the smell. Ugh. That still wasn't helping. She finally pinched the bridge of her nose and then raised her hand to take a guess.
"Ohmm....ish it a dead little molerat? Or sum othar deceased creatchur?" Punzel guessed, not caring if she sounded like a duck or what.

Wait what!? They were supposed to guess the smell!? But Dominic has perhaps the worse sense of smell ever! Grimacing at the thought, the fourth year wrinkled up his nose and tried to differentiate what the smell could be. Shrugging, he listened to the others but couldn't tell any of those. All he could smell was the disgusting smell of perfume, undoubtedly worn by some of the older girls in the class.
"Gi-- Perfume?" he asked, raising his hand. Sounded good to him.
