Livvy picked up the piece of paper and studied the instructions. Sighing, she stood up and went to collect her ingredients. She brought them back to her desk and sat down.

She read the instructions and raise an eyebrow. Sliced rat tails? Ew... poor rats. Livvy sighed and carried out on the job. She boiled her water and began crushing her billy wig stings. Poor billy wig stings. Did they have feelings? Livvy shook away all this random nonsense and focused on getting the assignment done.

After letting her potion stew for 15 minutes, she added the tails that she had sliced earlier to the potion. Now stew for 30 minutes. She looked around the room, already bored. What on earth are we supposed to do now for 30 minutes?

Livvy allowed her potion to stew for 15 minutes and took that time to her advantage by jotting down some nots and going over them. She just officially had an information overload, her brain was on the verge of explosion. Livvy then added those poor rat tails. Then she had to stew for 30 minutes. Good grief. Livvy looked at her notes and went through the Potions textbook, every now and then using her free hand to stir the potion. She looked up and saw Rachel glancing around. She gave her the bored look and "help me" look.

Billywig stings sufficiently crushed.
Mariel added those and precisely 24 spider legs to her cauldron, since her water had begun boiling. Taking note of the time on the clock on the wall, Mariel calculated 15 minutes from the present time and began slicing rat tails. Taking a deep breath midway through her cutting, Mariel glanced to her left and noticed Nathaniel in her class, looking to be smiling in her direction. She returned his smile and gave him a thumbs-up as it seemed his natural hair color had returned. Then she turned her attention back to rat tails.

Rachel spotted Livvy and chuckled when she gave her the classic 'Help me' look. She gave her a look which basically meant, 'can't help you there, sorry.'
She then looked back at her potion. Another 20 minutes and it should be finished. Argh! I'm losing my mind here!

After letting his potion stew for another 30 minutes Nate turned off the heat and let it cool for a while. While waiting he took out a quill and parchment and wrote his father a letter.

Father,
I have a few things that I'd like for you to send. I hope that you will. I need some new muggle clothes. Jeans, t-shirts, hoodies, and a few beanies. Mother knows my sizes. I also would love for you to send my skateboard. A few decks,wheels and such. I'm dying with out these things!
Nathaniel". He rolled the parchment up and put it in his pocket.

His potion had cooled and it was time for him to put it on his hair. He spritzed the potion on his hair and waited. WOW.. Not only did it stand on end his hair had turned a neon green. Nathaniel looked around at everyone. Oh no! Not only did the potion work which was awesome!! but his abilities were out of whack.. again.

"Umm, Professor!" Nate screeched

Astrid started carefully measuring each ingredient to ensure the proper mixture and the correct composition of the potion. When the water was finally boiling nicely, she carefully swept the freshly crushed billy wig stings into the cauldron, making sure it all went in. She was desperate to make her first potion perfect. She added the spider legs and began to stir. She looked at her watch and started to wait out the 15 minutes the ingredients needed to stew.

While she waited, she sliced the rat tails. When it was time, Astrid carefully dropped them in and then reviewed the instructions, making sure how long to let the mixture brew this time. Hmm, 30 minutes, ok good.

She couldn't help staring at the potion while it brewed. She was just fascinated by the whole experience and it seemed to be working perfectly. When the 30 minutes were up, she extinguished the fire, and waited for the potion to cool.

Rachel's potion was ready. At long last, it ready! She took it off the fire and waited for it to cool. She was just about to spray it on her hair when she heard a screech and turned to the the first year Griffindor boy with neon green hair standing on end. She decided not to spray the potion on herself until the boy's mess was sorted out.

Livvy checked her muggle watch. Ergh... 15 more minutes. Did time just grow slower? She stirred her potion and then heard a boy yell out to the professor. Livvy's head whipped upwards and she saw that the boy who yelled was Nate. Her eyes widened. Whoa! His hair was green! And not the pretty environmentalist kind... the neon kind!

Nate looked at the girl. "The potion didn't turn my hair green. My Metamorphmagus abilities are wonky. I don't have full control over it."

Nate smiled at Livvy. "Wicked right?" he said to her with a grin

After she had added the rat tails, Mariel made use of her time by studying her Potions book. Noting the time, she pulled her cauldron off the fire just in time to hear a loud screech come from the middle of the room. Nathaniel was the one causing the commotion as all heads seemed to be turned in the direction of his now neon green hair. Mariel's eyes widened in horror. Is that what the potion was supposed to do? She subconciously wrapped her arms protectively around her head. She was not going to turn her raven hair green.

Rachel sighed with relief. "So the potion's ok? Good. I'm Rachel by the way." And with that, she sprayed a little of the potion on her arm. Suddenly the thin fair hairs jumped right up. "Cool! Professor, is this right?" she asked eagerly, showing him her arm. She was delighted at having brewed her first potion without making anything or anyone explode.

Livvy grinned at Nate and nodded her head. "Man... your metamorphmagus powers have gone bonkers! But that is so cool," she said, laughing as she finished off stirring. She glanced at her watch. Five more minutes. Yes! Livvy waited patiently for it finally to be ready. Finally! It was done. She turned off the heater and cooled it off. Livvy took a deep breath and spritzed it on her hair, she hoped it wouldn't end up like Nate's. For some crazy reason.

Bree got up determinedly. She walked to the front of the class and picked up the necessary ingredients and laid them down on her table. She set up her cauldron. She set up the fire below her cauldron and then read the first line of the instructions. Boiling. That was do-able.

She measured out the water with shaking hands. What would her mother say if she saw her now. She'd never been allowed within a metre radius of the stove. She poured the water into the heated pewter bowl and watched as it hissed and flashed into steam as it hit the bottom. Then it stabilized and began to be heated more uniformly.

Billy-wigs? What were billy-wigs? It sounded like a nonsense word really not an insect. However, she shrugged and squished two of the long, thin stings in between her palms. They made a very satisfying crunching sound as they broke. She dusted them into the bubbling water.

Spider legs! She shivered involutarily. She had a morbid fear of spiders. The long, hairy legs of three of the horrible creatures lay before her. How didn't she notice them before? She shuddered and with shaking hands and repressed squeals hastily picked up as many as she could at a time and dumped them in the pot. About half fell to the floor in her haste but she pretended not to notice and continued reading the board while she counted down the minutes on her watch.

"Hello! I'm Nathaniel." he said touching his hair.

Patricia silently went up to get her ingredients and came back to her station with a dubious look on her face. She wondered why anyone would want their hair to stand on end... Really? she thought as she lit the fire under her cauldron, having added the required amount of water inside.

She crushed the two Billy wig stings with her pestle, peeking around to see how everyone was fairing. Looking back to her Billy wig stings, she finished crushing them evenly to a fine powder. A quick check on her cauldron to see that the water was boiling nicely, she added the powder and twenty four spider legs, counting each one under her breath. She gave the cauldron a quick stir with her stirring rod, taking note of the time on the clock.

She took the two rat tails between thumb and forefinger and placed them flat upon the table and picked up her knife. She read the instructions again and it indicated that the rat tails had to be sliced. She thought for a moment, a question came to light. Raising her hand up, she asked the professor, "Do the rat tails need to sliced lengthwise? Or does it matter how they are chopped?" She looked back to the tails, one of her eyebrows had risen in response.

Via had been listening to everyone as she scribbled some notes from the lesson. The as they were ordered to make the potion she went to get some ingredients for her potions. MAking sure that she had picked all the things needed she went back to her desk and started busying herself with the brewing of the potion.

She crushed billy wig stings as she waited for the water to boil. Then she added the billy wig stings and spider legs and she let it be stewed for 15 minutes. As soon as the added ingredient got stewed she added rat tail slices and waited again for another 30 minutes. Following all the direction she carfully removed the cauldron from the fire and she waited for it to be cool.

As soon as Via was sure the potion is now cool she sprinkled some on her right arm and the small hairs at her right arm jumped right up. It was like she was having goosebumps but the feeling was far different, she wasn't nervous.

Rachel grinned at him. "This potion is so cool! Of course, for you it's a little cooler. Noen green hair is very interesting," she said, laughing. She wondered when the professor would answer her.

Cela grinned back at the professor a little bit nervously even though Nico had been making her study all this stuff alot lately. Though if there was peanut butter then maybe it wasn't all bad. Not explosions though, Cela wasn't keen on those. Cela collected her ingredients, shooting grins at some of her classmates as she checked and double checked that she had everything. She measured 200ml of water into her cauldron and while it boiled she julienned the rat tails like Nico had told her was effective and placed them aside.

As the water hit boiling, Cela carefully crushed the billywig stings and added those and the spiderlegs to her potion. 20...21...23...24... wait a second had she counted that right? Celandine took the cauldron off the boil and gave the contents a quick stir since the legs and stings had stuck to the side in a clump. While she waited for the 15 minutes written in the instructions, Cela took down notes of what they discussed in class and wondered what would happen to her hair if she put peanut butter in it. Once the time was up Cela added the julienned rat tail slices and was pleased to see there was no clumping with the way she had cut them.

With 30 minutes more to spare, Celandine thought for a second; why had the hair raising potion been invented? What was it's purpose? She opened her bag and pulled out one of her favourite History of Magic textbooks on the topic.

Interesting...

After she had taken copious notes and provided many pointless doodles on the subject, Celandine's wand blinked at her as a reminder that the 30 minutes was up. She removed the cauldron completely from the heat and stirred it to help it cool; another tip courtesy of her potions-obsessed brother.

Now... Cela looked around for something to 'spritz' it with. Seeing other students testing it on their arms Celandine decided to do something similar, but more in line with what she had just picked up in her reading. She cautiously dipped the end of her wand in the solution and swept her hair completely off her neck before flicking her wand over the base of the exposed skin on the back of her neck.

EeeeeEeeeeeeK!

Cela's eyes widened and she let her hair fall in a curtain around her face as she experienced the sensation of a thousand spiders crawling up her spine. After a minute she realised she quite liked spiders and relaxed, almost enjoying the sensation. She wondered what would happen if she drunk the potion and was curious to see how it might effected her whole body from the inside but realised that would leave nothing left to mark and possibly cause a scene... and there was nothing in her books about what effect that might have.

Using one of the flask in her potions kit, Cela emptied the liquid into it and stoppered it up. Labelling it carefully with her name, her house, the contents and the date brewed. Nico always said to label it with the date incase it contains ingredients that expire or change over time.

Rachel looked around the room, bored again. She waved to the people she knew and spotted Celandince. "Hey Cela, how are you?" she asked, and added, "Nice one," in reference to the potion. Gosh, I haven't seen her for a while!

Celandine looked up from her ministrations and smild brightly at Rachel. She was a claw, she liked books right? And learning stuff?

"Hey Rachel, have a look at this." Celandine passed her the book open to the appropriate page.

Cela had a little giggle as she waited for her friend to read the portion of the book pertaining to their lesson.

Rachel read what Cela had handed to her and burst out laughing. "Oh, so this is why they invented the potion. I must say, the thief's method was quite ingenius!
"So how have you been, Cela?" she asked, still chuckling from the text.

"Good. Went looking for tre... hey have you finished your potion? Did you have trouble with the ingredients clumping?" Celandine straightened all her notes and books into a perfect stack before idly adjusting each piece to be on a slight angle so that from above it appered star-shaped.

"Where have you been hiding?"

Rachel grinned and showed Cela her arm, all the hairs were standing on end. "Yep, I'm done with the potion," she said, and then looked at Cela's phial. "Oh, do we have to make a sample" she asked, forgetting about that part.
"And no, I didn't really have that problem since I added them in separately, and so they didn't clump. I know this from helping my mother cook at home," she said and winked playfully.

"Me? I've been around, juggling between homework and the Hospital Wing. Where have you been? I haven't seen you in the common room for a while," she said, slightly puzzled. How come I haven't seen her? Odd.

Via spotted Rachel at the potions class. She was having a conversation with Celandine. She had known her by name and face but she hadn't talked to her before. Via smiled at Rachel and Celandine. She take a sample of what she had done.
