Laylee looked up as a girl asked a question about the Y in the Ancient Rune alphabet. She was only a few seats away from her. Laylee leaned forward so she could see the girl. She looked younger than her, but not by much. Laylee smiled at her. "There is a Y, its just the same symbol as the J. See?" She said pointing to the board with her wand. She smiled at her again.

Wow. How embarrassing was that? It seemed as though everyone could tell she was completely inept in this class and felt compelled to help her. So pathetic. "Thanks", she mumbled quietly before going back and adding the y's to her last name.

Laylee noticed that the girl seemed embarrassed. She had no reason what-so-ever to feel that way. "Hey, I've had lots of practice in Ancient Runes! Im a Ravenclaw." Laylee said laughing at herself. She knew that there were tons of people all through out each house at Hogwarts that were intelligable, but Ravenclaw was an entire house dedicated to people who like to learn! She gave the girl a warm smile.

Miles tried his best to understand, and started to write his name.

As she waited for the professor to get to her, she listened to his other answers and realised that she could just use a K and a J, like Astrid. This way I'll get more points too! Smiling, she set to work and wrote this down:

Satisfied with her work, she waited for the professor to reply to her still relevant question - When to use Eihwaz and when to use Ehwaz.

Once Lizzie was bored of waiting for the professor to notice what she'd written, she decided to write something more. So underneath the words "Lizzie Genevieve Evans" that she'd written earlier, she added some more. It now looked like this:

She was very pleased with herself and waited, eager for what the professor might say.

"he he. Yeah, I guess." She knew the girl was trying to help, but now she was just even more embarrassed that someone had noticed she was embarrassed. Stupid perpetual cycles. She closed her eyes and tried to will away the headache that was forming. She tried to focus on the positive things. Okay, lets see. 1. She hadn't gotten detention yet. 2. She could now show off her impressive foreign language skills. 3. Nope, only 2.

Laylee frowned. That did seem to help. "Im Laylee by the way!" She said happily, trying to change the subject from smarts to introductions.
She kept her voice down in the class, but the girl could hear her. She turned back to her paper, deciding if the girl wanted to continue talking, she would get her attention.

Torie carefully spelled out her full name using the runes. She felt a bit embarrassed, because she had never told anyone her middle name before, but if it got Gryffindor more points, she could manage it.

Patricia listened to everything that was being said in class and wrote down the Runic alphabet as well. She was getting writer's cramps in her hand... She was highly impressed by the students that knew their Runes by heart, which was woefully not the case with her. But this was her first class here and thought that she couldn't be expected to everything by heart in all her classes!

She wrote down her name and started to convert her name in Runic form:

She only hoped that she was correct with her interpretation. Her gaze went over the class to see if anyone else had problems doing it.

""Ch" would have the closest approximation to "KJ" ( Kenaz and Jera) in the Scandinavian languages." Fabian repeated as he hovered over Rachel. "Place those in and that should work nicely"

"Yes ma'am. Because the Runic alphabet is fairly limited, in addition to the language spoken on those early days it does not have the capacity of all the letters we speak now a days. So, in this case when writing in Runes, always write it phonetically"


"If you have written your full name out you shall earn 5 house points and may be dismissed, if your still working on your name in runic then you may do so and I'll come around to help you out".

"In the mean time, I'll post Homework up on the board!"

Hearing the professor telling them to write their names in runes Nancy took her quill again and did her best to draw the runes. Why couldn't she be as artistic as her friends?! Anyways, her first name was quite easy. Or so she thought.

But then Nancy's eyes widened as she searched desperately for a C on the runes set. There had to be a C, right?! Why was there no C?! With a sigh she decided to raise her hand but immediately dropped it again since just at that moment she had heard a boy tell Camira that she should use a K instead. Right, she could have thought of that as well. But was it the same with her C? In Camira's case the C was pronounced like a K so it wouldn't exactly make any difference but the C in Nancy?

Looking around the classroom with a quite confused look on her face Nancy finally decided to raise her hand once more and ask the professor. "Excuse me, professor. But there's no C-Rune, right, but I can't exactly use a K either since my name's Nancy." Okay, that statement must have been quite confusing but hopefully the professor would understand her.

Meanwhile Nancy took a new sheet of paper to write down her last name. Why was she called Hudonson? This was a looong name and totally annoying to write with runes but whatever.
Finally putting the quill down again to examine her work she was actually sort of proud of her work. It didn't look too bad...

Laylee wrote down her assingment and grabbed her things. She left her name in Runes for he Professor and left the room, headed for the library to get started on her homework.

Astrid quickly jotted their homework assignment and started to pack away her things. She was having such a good time in class that she hardly believed that it was time to leave already. She looked over at Maddox and asked, "Hey Mads, wanna go do this homework together real fast?" Then she flung her bag over her shoulder and started heading for the door. She turned to look at the professor and said, "Professor Clark, the was the most amazing lesson ever! I can't wait until the next one."

Dominic was horror-shocked that the Hufflepuff girl who practically recited a dissertation on the runes meanings didn't earn anything. Granted she had spoken up after him, but still didn't help his surprise that she wasn't commented on. Of course if the Professor actually listened to all that she said, he'd be more impressed. Finally recovering from the quite talkative females, the fourth year set to work on writing his name in runes. It was a good thing that the Professor put that poster on the board, or else he'd be completely lost.

He sighed thoughtfully as he looked at his name in runes; it didn't actually make a whole lot of sense to him, but hopefully it was right. Minus the 'c', but he could have sworn he heard the professor telling others to use a 'k' instead. Now for his last name...

Once he had laid his runes out in what he thought to be the correct order, he looked up to the Professor as if to call him over. "Professor? Does my name look alright?" Dominic asked, unsure of one letter. That 'e'. "And how do you know when to use Eihwaz versus Ehwaz? Does it matter?"

Rachel jotted down her homework and grabbed her things. She left her name for the professor and exited the classroom. I'll her over to the library, see if I can find anything on Eihwaz and Ehwaz... Deciding, she turned to the direction of the library and walked quickly, trying to make it there before it shut.

Lizzie wrote down the homework, once again watched the whole sentences she'd written and put her things back in the bag. She wished the professor had seen that she'd written much more than her name, she was so eager to earn house pointsa and writing sentences must have been a good way of showing she got the hang of it. But surely he had other things on his mind, and she got ready to leave. It had been a nice lesson. On the way out she stopped by the professor and gave him a smile. Thanks for the lesson professor. It was nice to have a lesson where I finally felt like I really knew what to do. I'll see you next time. Bye

"That looks fine" he nodded, "as for the letter c in your name you can go ahead and use the letter S - Sowulo instead. Since writing in runes relies on phonetics. Your name in this case can be written as: Nansy".

"Glad you enjoyed it, have a good one!".

"Yes your name looks fine" he nodded at the boy with a raised brow. "Not much of a difference, when writing in Runes - for Eihwaz you can use it for the letter followed by an I as in ei, where was Ehwaz can be used for plain e. But when your speaking of the rune meaning itself they are a sea of difference".

Looking up from her work to the professor who had finally addressed her Nancy smiled at him and nodded, "Okay, thank you, Sir." Opening her textbook to look up the rune for the letter S her eyes fell on her other piece of parchment, the one with her last name on it. Oops, she had already used the letter S. She could be so stupid sometimes.
Taking her quill into her right hand again Nancy began to finish her first name.

Nansy...okay, this looked sort of weird but funny at the same time. A smile flashed across her face as she examined her just finished work. It looked...okay.

Packing up her things Nancy raised from her seat and threw her bag over her shoulder. With another last glance at the classroom she strolled back down the aisle towards the door. "Goodbye, professor. Thanks for the...uhm...interesting lesson." She smiled at him and started to walk through the door.

Woot! Rapunzel grinned at the professor. Of course I want to earn Hufflepuff three more points....

She rearranged her runes again, hopefully correctly.



And then her last name.



Only....there was no C. Uh oh...

"Professor Clark, sir?" She raised her hand and waited for him to come over, just now noticing that the homework had been posted. Punz copied it down quickly and then asked her question. She didn't want to hang around too long after class had been dismissed. "There's no C for my last name, Black...but do you think it would be okay if I just omitted it? Or I could use kenaz twice..."

Er, she wasn't sure how runes matched up with phonetics, but the c was sorta unnecessary anyways.

Cale looked down at his runes. Well, this couldn't be too bad, could it? Of course not! He began to spell out his name, sighing at the fact that his mother had given him rather complicated first and middle names.






Once he finished, he grinned and left it on his desk for the professor to examine as he copied down the homework.

Anna began working on writing her name in Ancient Runes right away. She'd never done this before, so she figured it may take quite some time. Not only that, she had a really long last name, so that by itself would probably take most of the class period.



When she was finished, Anna sighed and looked down at her work. Hopefully everything was correct.

Lima listened to the Professors instructions. It seemed easy enough. She started jotting down her full name in Runes. When she was done it looked like this:

Maddox raised his hand and said, "Professor is this correct?" He wasnt sure if he had done correctly because of the fact that there werent runes for X or C, and he had both in his name.




Maddox felt Lima poke him, and saw her shove her paper in his direction. It took everything he had in him to look at her. He gave her a weak smile and a small thumbs up. He was still to angry to say anything to her.




Maddox turned and looked at Astrid. He did need someone to talk too. He gave her a weak smile and said, "Sure! give me a few minutes to find out if this is correct or not, and we can be on our way." He impatiently waited for the professor now. He had to get out of here, or he was surely going to combust. Sitting next to lima during the whole class was hard enough, he wasnt in the mood for another fight. He quickly glanced at lima then back to astrid. He would be out of her soon.

When he barely acknowledged her again she felt her heart break all over again. He just didn't care anymore. She struggled not to start crying in front of him. She gave him a weak smile and gestured that she wanted to see his.
