Professor Branxton found an abandoned broom cupboard to brew the potion. He set everything up and waited for students to bring him the ingredients needed. While he waited, he pinned a copy of the potion directions to the wall. Quote:

2) Pour off excess water from mandrake root (take care not to pour out the clazoarl!) and add leech juice. Allow to ferment for seven days.
3) Add vinegar to the stewed and fermented mandrake root and boil until there is no vinegar remaining.
4) Add water and bring to a boil. Then, reduce flame and simmer for forty-seven minutes and three seconds, stirring counterclockwise for the duration of the simmer.
5) Add black beetle eyes, maintaining the counter clockwise stirring for an additional forty seven seconds. Then, begin to stir in a serpentine motion while removing the cauldron from all heat.
6) Allow the mixture to cool while maintaining the serpentine stirring movement. (This can take several hours).
7) Add the ancient fluorescent clam mold and spray the affected person down with the potion. | |

Rhiannon felt better when Amelia questioned Professor Lainey's instructions as well. It helped when she knew she had backup for her questions. She stood, waititng for an answer as well.
As Dia came in with the leeches and asked what she was supposed to do with them, she spoke, with only the slightest of shudders. "I think Professor Branxton said we were supposed to squeeze them. I think to get the leech juice called for in the recipe."

Lainey tried very hard to ignore how Doyle stole Rae away before she got a word. It was... very hard. She succeeded though, if only for Rae's sake.

She bit her lip slowly, and as she was still holding the beetles, she would undoubtedly be one of the ones helping. Looking over at Rhiannon, she smiled and asked, "You're helping me, right Rhian?"
The sixth year tried heard to sustain a giggle as Lainey apologized and then used excitement as an excused. It was very funny - from an outsider's prospective. She smiled at her professor sitting on her bucket and half wanted to tell her that she should 'squeeze the leeches' since she was so into 'squishing things'. But she didn't want to seem bossy.
Instead, she plopped down in an one of the empty corners and set the beetles in front of her. Opening her messenger bag, she pulled out her potions kit which had some clean vials as well as extracting tools. Pulling a beetle from the jar, it was slightly disgusting with its slimy skin, but it was the students. She carefully began to extract the first one and placed its eyes in the phial. The badger was half-tempted to save the rest of the beetle for something later on, but with all these watchful eyes on her, she was quite scared to do so. She joined Amelia in the corner and dragged her bag over. She didn't really want to leave the clams alone, but she hoped they would be safe shoved way back into the corner, like she had done. Rummaging around in her bag, she found her potions kit among all the sketching materials. looking inside, she pulls out something to extract the eyes with and takes a beetle out of Amelia's jar. After several seconds, in which she tried her hardest not to shudder and make a mistake, she extracts the beetle's eyes and carefully places them inside the phial.

As she was holding the phial out for the charms professor, she heard the whisper of the librarian. She nodded politely to her, in agreement of the trait. Then slowly furrowed her brow in confusion with where the librarian had to head off too. "Uh... okay then, Madame Kohan." Oh how badly she wished to follow the woman, but knew it was wrong. Besides, she had a phial in her hand that was essential to the brewing.

Rhiannon sat back as Amelia went to give Professor Branxton the phial of beetle eyes. She hoped that they had extracted enough. And that the next thing they needed to do was slightly less revolting.
Slipping out her sketchbook, she randomly starts sketching people in the room while she waits for any more instructions.

Ryder walked over the cupboard on the fifth floor carrying the jar of beetles. He knocked on the door before slowly pushing it open. He looked around the room hoping that Professor Clark was already there but he did not see him. He waited against the wall looking at the beetles moving around the jar.

As the door to the cupboard opens again, Rhiannon glances up from her sketch of Professor Branxton. She didn't recognize the boy that entered, but quickly figured out that he was another Slytherin. Great, she thought with a tiny bit of sarcasm. I wonder which category of Slytherin this one's going to fit into. She was quickly deciding that there were two types of Slytherin: Slytherins like Josh and Tia, that she could get along with, and Slytherins that she couldn't.
Going back to her sketch, she hopes that some sort of instruction was going to be given soon.
