It took a moment to realize that the Professor's outburst was towards her! Breathless, Amelia looked down at the new big gold start on her lapel and beamed, still shocked she got the correct answer. With difficulty, she then listened to what the Professor said next about safety.

"Always be aware for any splashes and the temperature that you're working with, to avoid burns. Wearing gloves when necessary..." Amelia responded, after raising her hand.

"Make sure to wear your robes, it will serve to protect your uniform." Steelsheen said raising her hand.

Jillian raised her hand once more. "Goggles might be of protection to your eyes when handling fire."

Tomasina raised her hand "Read over your ingredients list and recipe very carefully. Adding the wrong thing could create an explosion. Tie up any long hair and roll up your sleeves." She said.

"Be aware for any splashes and the temperature that you're working with.And you need to use gloves when necessary.. if you have long hair, tie it up and roll up your sleeves. " she said with a nod.
Ellie wasn't very good at potions, besides that pink classroom scared her.

Jai looked at the list she had. Tie hair up, goggles roll up sleeves- "Professor." Jai raised her hand "I know that you must roll your sleeves up. But what is the potion you are working with is corrosive, how do we handle a problem like that?"

Astrid thought back to all of the safety precautions she had to take in her Muggle Chemistry classes. "Well professor, before we even begin, we should make sure to have on the proper personal protective equipment, like gloves, goggles, etc. Also make sure that we don't have any loose hair or clothing. Those are the first things at risk when working with fire. I saw a girl catch her sleeve on fire once and it was not pretty. Also, we should have a fire extinguishing spell handy, just in case."

Shumeeta raised her hand. "We should wear fire-resistant clothes if we can, professor," she said. "Never plastics or nylons, because they catch fire very easily and melt at once. And we should avoid wearing lots of hairspray or perfume before handling fire, too and keep inflammable liquids and ingredients away from the fire, if we can."

"Dragon Hide Gloves, Goggles, cauldron shield, lab robes, and of course your wand..." she said with a smile, "with the ability to perform a good aguamenti spell."

Via thought of the precautions they usually do at muggle school, laboratory gowns, hand gloves, proper clothing, hair in a ponytail and at home, hmmm, Mum does the cooking.

"Appropriate and proper protective clothing, Professor. It includes the hair. Always be ready to put of fire using a fire extinguisher, but i guess, we have here a spell and an extinguisher isn't needed."

*Sheeta beamed and took notes about potions brewing... she was finally going to get to do what she had been so excited about doing... MAKING POTIONS! She made note of all these safety facts that others were mentioning and waited to learn the potion au jour.*

"Oh even the safety rules that don't have anything to do with fire were excellent. Two points to everyone who answered," she beamed.

"So long as you follow all the safety rules and use the right cauldron and stirring spoons you should be fine, dear," Melita smiled.

She bounced a little, looking around the room with a grin. "So, are we ready to try it? We'll practice by boiling water and then I've got a treat for you," she said and her grin broadened. "So, get to it! And feel free to hum or sing or whatever you'd like to help lighten the mood of dull study."

"Yes, professor," Via said with a smile. Via tried to guessed on her mind what will be Professor Sophie's treat.

Astrid was more than ready to get started on her very 1st potion. She ensured that her cauldron was set up correctly. She pointed her wand and said the incantation, "Aquamenti" She filled it about half way full and then got ready to start her fire.

She went through a little checklist in her head.
Goggles... check - Gloves ... check - Hair pulled back ... check. And on down the list until she was positive that she was fully prepared and ready to begin.

At last she spoke the incantation, "Incendio" At first nothing happened. She took a deep breath and let it out. She was going to have to try that again, though a little calmer this time. "Incendio" this time the fire started straight away. Astrid smiled. She was certainly moving along in the right direction now! She continued to monitor her fires temperature and waited for it to come to a boil. It didn't take long. Must be 'Magic'. she thought and couldn't help but laugh.

Usagi copied Astrid, feeling very excited. The 1st potion in her life! She have a dream in culinary, but this is totally different. Following Prof. Melita's direction, she started to hum, very quietly in order not to annoy anyone, the tune of Ladies' Choice, smiling dreamily while thinking of Zac Efron.

Oya blinked... twice... 'Feel free to hum or sing.' thought Oya really confused. She couldn't help but crack a smile. She rolled her sleeves, put her goggles on and started the fire
"Incendio" she whispered at pointed her wand at the cauldron. Suddenly small fire appeared. Not to big, but big enough to boil the water just in time. Oya sat back, relaxed and stared at the beautiful fire in front of her.

Allie pulled back her hair, and rolled up her sleeves, and made sure she was folowing all safety rules before starting.
"Aquementi." she said, and filled her cauldredn up.
Now time to start the fire.
"Incendio." she said, and saw the fire start. Soon her watr was boiling, and she waited patiently for more instructions.

Steelsheen smiled. Yup lets earn them back, slowly but surely "Thank you Professor" she replied.


Steelsheen looked at her coulderon sitting on the desk. Well here we go she thought as she tied her hair up in a bun and made sure that her robe sleeves doesnt get in the way. Recalling the Professor's instructions to boil water, she places her wand at the tip of the caulderon and utters "Aguamenti". Water promptly spouts out of the wand tip and fills up the caulderon. Next she adjusts the stand the caulderon is sitting on then points her wand at the base "Incendio" she says, and a good size flame started. In a few minutes the water started to bubble. She looks up and asks "Whats next Professor?"

Dull Study?! Cassandra thought to herself. She wasn't going to hum or sing... she used a water charm to fill her cauldron and then started a flame under it.

Hum? Sing? Well, Shumeeta had done it. In the forests, when she had been there. It was delightful, singing wild, marsh-and-swamp songs while she went through the wilderness all by herself or with a neighbour or a friend or an uncle.

- All the 'aunts' there were too scared.

She flicked her wand to get the water and then, setting up a pretty, little fire, she set it to boil. The water, not the fire!

She was humming now, but she made sure to keep her voice as low as possible so that no one else would be disturbed. It was one of the songs Jordon had thought her, when she had been to sea with him.

"Behold upon the swelling seas, with streaming pennants gay, our gallant ship invites the waves, while glory leads the way." She paused for several moments, to watch her fire cackle merrily. It reminded her of those old nights in the forests, with their campfire.

Oh well. Like her mother said - it was time to stop being a tomboy. That's why she had been sent to Belle's in the first place - to get 'disciplined' and 'more of a girl.'

Alexis grinned. Boiling water? It was easy in the muggle world so it would be twice as easy with magic. Picking up her wand she checked her cauldron to make sure nothing was in it then pointed the wand inside. "Aquamenti" She said filling the cauldron up a little more than half. Since the water was going to boil some would evaporate right?

"Incendio" Lex said simply under the cauldron and a small fire stared. Making sure that the temperature was just right Alexis waited for the water to boil.

And waited. And waited. And waited. And waited some more. And yawned while waiting. And rub her eyes while waiting. And sneezed while waiting. Suddenly she heard a bubbling noise. "Finally! Miss my waters boiling." Lex said raising her hand.

The water was boiling now. Perfect. Shumeeta got ready to do next, whatever she was supposed to do next, but then she realized she had no instructions. She raised her hand.

"What do we do next, professor?"

Alice sighed at the instructions, not really impressed. Yes, she was a first year, but boiling water? She shook her head, blaming her parents for her boredom. She mentally went down the safety check list, sort of in her own little world. “Aquamenti.” She muttered, filling her cauldron about three fourths of the way. Her goggles weren’t really on, but the water wasn’t going to explode, so she deemed it ok to simply have them pushed up on her head. She brushed a strand of hair out of her face before lighting the fire. “Incendio.” The fire looked pretty cool if she said so herself, burning out of no where.

Gwen’s face fell. It had been too good to be true. They weren’t going to be doing a potion; in fact, they’d be lucky to get that far at this term, with this crazy bat. They were boiling water. Gwen couldn’t even think of a potion that included water! You know what needs water? Recipes. For food.

Then again, she didn’t have much cause for complaint. They may not be learning anything about potions, but she was terrible at Potions. It was just as well; getting points had never been so easy, she thought as she filled her cauldron with...water, and lit a flame beneath it.
