| | Arithmancy Lesson 2: The Challenges
Professor Shackleton unlocked the doors to her classroom and entered to see the plain white walls that had been present since the beginning of term. But she smirked to herself because she knew what lied underneath that illusion of pristine cleanliness - walls covered in painted numbers and calculations in an assortment of colors and sizes. And just as soon as all the students had entered and the lesson was ready to begin, Shackleton would lock the door and remove the spell for the illusion so that the students could enjoy their numerical masterpiece!
In the meantime, Shackleton arranged herself behind the podium, setting out her lesson plan and an open textbook, and waited for the students to take their seats. |

Marra nodded, opening to a new part of her book. Quote:
2/2/2054
(1+5)-2=4
36-4=32 (First Challenge from 0-32.
Marra raised her hand.
'So Professor, then to calculate the 2nd Challenge you would do year of birth minus day of birth?" She asked.

Melinda started to calculate her first Challenge. Quote:
Date of Birth: 10/17/2050
17-10
(1+7)-1
8-1+=7 Seven was her first challenge. She wrote it down and quickly went to her book to get a glance of what it meant. And, this is what it said: Quote:
SEVEN (7): When 7 is your Challenge, you're learning to overcome feelings of loneliness and isolation by using your energy to meditate and contemplate the meaning of life. This Challenge is one of the most serious times in your life. Learn to realize that your inner self is looking for experiences that will allow your personal growth. Learn to distinguish reality from incorrect knowledge and false views. Be more honest and true to yourself, connect to others, and learn to listen to yourself in order to encourage your ability to analyze and observe the world around you. Enhance your intuitive skills, examine philosophical and metaphysical material, and learn the universal laws of nature.
For what it said, she needed to trust herself, be intuitive...and learn t hrough experiences. Wow, that was sort of true, she just wanted herself traveling, learning from different experiences.

Day - Month of birth
8 - 1 = 7 First Challenge = 7
First Challenge Age: From birth to age (36 - 5) = 0 - 31
Age Range: 0-31years.
The seventh year then listened to the Professor's description of her own first challenge, and reread it in her textbook before raising her hand. "Perhaps during your younger years, you had to learn to balance between multiple items in your life. You may have tended to always be one to care for your own needs before others, and that needed to change...you needed to figure out how to apply your emotions towards those around you; be sensitive and fair to others." She paused, contemplating on those words for a moment. "And er, judging from what I know of you today, I think you succeeded, Professor," she added on quietly, offering a smile. Professor Shackleton smiled warmly and replied, "Thank you very much, Amelia. I certainly hope that I mastered that Challenge by the time I transitioned into the Second. Four points for your creative assessment." Quote:

ONE (1): When 1 is your Challenge, you're learning to stand up for yourself, be true to your own ideas and beliefs, be self-reliant, and find the courage to lead. You'll face test after test to determine if you've ultimately learned to stand firm and not compromise yourself. When the 1 is the First Challenge, you're learning to recognize that you have a self; while in the other Challenge positions, it means you're learning to remain true to this self and have self-confidence.
Allie listened to what the Professors Challenge number was, and raised her hand. "Well for the "duality, is that it requires constant vigilance to stay balanced in the juggle between two seemingly opposing forces. " I think that means you had to learn had to deal two people that maybe didnt get along. Such as two friends that didn't like eacother, or even divorced parents." she said. "And eventually you would have learned to deal with them. Also that you would need to learn how to be more sensative towards others." she finished. She wasnt sure if it was right, it had sounded better in her head, but she thought it was better to answer than say nothing at all. "Another excellent, well thought out assessment. Four points!" Professor Shackleton found it surprising how spot-on one of the things she had said was. Two people who didn't get along? That definitely fit. But of course, it might be expected that two people might not get along when one stole the other's fiance right out from under her feet. But that's another story for another time... Quote:

Crystal looked at her work, it didnt look right to her so she put her hand up, Professor is this right? Professor Shackleton made her way over to Crystal's desk and glanced at her work, "Yes dear. You've done it exactly correct. Nice work."
As she made her way back to the front of the room, she asked the classroom of females, "Which of you ladies can tell me and the class how we calculate the Second Challenge?"

She raised her hand high in the air and said, "The Second Challenge Number is calculated by taking the year of birth and subtracting the day of birth."

Melinda quickly did her work, but didn't care if the teacher noticed if she was right or wrong. Well, who can I tease? She did care. But anyways, raised her hand for the next question. "To calculate the second Challenge, is year of birth minus the day of birth" She said and took her hand down, since her hand, her former-injured hand, was now giving her a tickle.

Sixth Year | ♥ Honeybee's puppy I B&B forever ♥ Ella too raised her hand, followed her fellow students."To calculate the second Challenge, we should subtract the day of our birth from the year of the birth" she said and smiled at Amelia. They were not talking much lately.
By the great enthusiasm, she quickly calculated her Second challenge on her Parchment. Quote:
14/02/2050
Year - day of birth
2050 - 14 = 2036 = 2+0+3+6 = 11
After finished the calculations she had gone through the book for the meanings. Quote:
MASTER NUMBER ELEVEN (11/2): Learn to honor the demands of both the 11 and the 2. Constant vigilance is necessary to remain balanced emotionally and physically. Step up to the leadership role of the 11 using spiritual principles and recognize all the opportunities of the 2 - lessons of partnership and relationship
She looked up and waiting for the Professor's next instruction.

Astrid quickly worked to find her 2nd challenge number. This is fun, she thought to herself.
7/25/2054
2054/11/2 -25/7 = 5
Second Challenge = 5
First Challenge Age: 36 - 7 = 29
0-29
Second Challenge Age: 29 + 9 = 38
29 - 38
Third Challenge Age: 38 + 9 = 47
38 - 47
Fourth Challenge Age: 47 to death
Second Challenge Age Range = 29 - 38 years
FIVE (5): When 5 is your Challenge, you're learning to change and become more flexible. The love of changing rule can make others grow impatient and restless and desire freedom from rules and restrictions. Take a risk and loosen up despite the fear and confusion that change can bring. Learn to release yourself from restricting conduct that are limiting your creative energy.

| Mrs. Alex Turner *asterisks user* Secret Door With a nod at Professor's words, Evangeline looked down at her notebook and started calculating her Second Challenge. Date of birth: 05/20/2051 Second Challenge:
Year of birth - day of birth
2051 - 20 = 8 - 2 = 6
Second Challenge = 6 First Challenge Age: 30 Second Challenge Age: 30+9=30 Second Challenge Age Range: 30-39
SIX (6): When 6 is your Challenge, you're learning accountability for others and possibly experiencing burden from family obligations. Learn to attend to others and strike a balance between honoring your commitments to family and to yourself - a balance, meaning that you can't avoid either and must attend to both. Learn to avoid codependency and discover when loyalty, obedience, and the desire to be in charge of the household have stepped overboard. There is a tendency for this Challenge to be too stubborn and set in your opinions, so learn to transfer the energy from the negative to the positive qualities of the 6 - warmth, beauty, and nurturing.
Erm. So .... what exactly did that mean? Blinking slightly, Evangeline rose her hand. "Er .. Professor? Is this alright?" |

Second Challenge=4
(2+0+5+4) -7
11-7=
4
Second Challenge Age: 32+ 9=41
32-41
FOUR (4): When 4 is your Challenge, you're learning the significance of discipline, orderliness, practicality, and hard work. Learn how to work within the boundaries, limitations and restrictions of this difficult challenge and learn how to set boundaries with others. Learn to suppress impatience, inflexibility, narrow-mindedness, and self-righteousness.
Allie raised her hand.
"If I did this right, Professor, my second Challenge number is 4." she said"Which I think, is pretty much saying that I will learn how to work with ceirtain rules, and restrictions, how to work with others, and be more open-minded of others opinions. And how to more patient, and less narrow-mined, etc. "
"Also, I would learn the impotance of hard work." Allie added.

Astrid had been going over her challenge in her head trying to fully grasp what it was talking about in regards to her. When she felt like she was ready to share it with the class, she said. "Professor, my Second Challenge is a 5. For the 2 Challenge, Change is the name of the game." She laughed a little at this and continued, "It signifies that as an adult, I will need to learn to be more flexible and take risks that I was not comfortable making throughout my First Challenge time frame because of my fear of change. And while change is hard and quite scary for most people, it should be viewed as an opportunity. The chance to make changes that will positively affect my life and the lives of those around me."

Crystal started to work out her second challange numbers 2054 (2+5+4=11 1+1) 2 - 4 (3+1) = -2
TWO (2): One of the most common challenges, the number two stresses sensitivity to all human relations. One aspect of the two, as the symbol for duality, is that it requires constant vigilance to stay balanced in the juggle between two seemingly opposing forces. You will in time learn the balance point and how to maintain it by being sensitive and living in harmony with yourself and with others. The negative aspect of the 2 can deal with fear, timidity, or lack of self-confidence. A potentially painful Challenge, there may be a battle with subordination or unwarranted consideration paid to what others think. The value of this Challenge is that you become sensitive to the emotions and needs of others without sacrificing your own needs at the same time.
and then copied her age from last lesson notes second challange age 32 + 9 = 41 32 till 41

Anyone who wishes to share theirs with the class may do so and others can give their interpretations." Amelia beamed when the Professor said she was correct; not that she was the least bit surprised at this point. But it still felt good being right. As directed, she continued in her notes about calculating her challenge... Challenges
08/01/2048
First Challenge:
Day - Month of birth
8 - 1 = 7 First Challenge = 7
Second Challenge Number = year of birth - day of birth
(2+0+4+8) - (0+1)
(5) - (1) = 4 Second Challenge = 4
FOUR (4): When 4 is your Challenge, you're learning the significance of discipline, orderliness, practicality, and hard work. Learn how to work within the boundaries, limitations and restrictions of this difficult challenge and learn how to set boundaries with others. Learn to suppress impatience, inflexibility, narrow-mindedness, and self-righteousness. First Challenge Age: From birth to age (36 - 5) = 0 - 31 First Challenge Age Range: 0-31years Second Challenge Age: Age at end of First Challenge + 9 = 31 + 9 = 40 Second Challenge Age Range: 31-40 years
The seventh year then raised her hand to share her challenge to the class and wait for others to give their interpretations. "My Second Challenge number was four and will take place from the age of 31 to 40. The textbook says the following for number four challenge: When 4 is your Challenge, you're learning the significance of discipline, orderliness, practicality, and hard work. Learn how to work within the boundaries, limitations and restrictions of this difficult challenge and learn how to set boundaries with others. Learn to suppress impatience, inflexibility, narrow-mindedness, and self-righteousness."

| Shoe!Girl │ Rebel Ravie │ Confundus Queen │ RP Addict As they were told to calculate their Second Challenges, Rhiannon started writing directly underneath her First Challenge calculations in her journal. Quote: Second Challenge:
2048 - 26
(2 + 0 + 4 + 8) - (2 + 6)
14 - 8
(1 + 4) - 8
5 - 8 = -3 = 3 Second Challenge Age: First Challenge Age + 9
30 + 9 = 39
Therefore my Second Challenge Age is between 30 and 39 years of age.
Glancing at her textbook, she jotted down the interpretation for her Second Challenge number: Quote:
THREE (3): When 3 is your Challenge, you're learning to recognize your emotions and speak from the heart. Learn that your words have a significant influence on your life as you may be critical with your words. The negatives of the 3 must be overcome, so work to abandon superficiality, aggrandizement, gossip, conceitedness, and speaking just to hear yourself talk. Under the 3 Challenge, work to use your creative energy to form a loving, positive, and joyful spirit and realize pure, unadulterated happiness.
If she was honest with herself, she had a little bit of a problem trying to analyze what that meant to her personally, so she simply stared at it for a while, trying to see if anything made sense.

Desdemonda glanced down at her text and started jotting down her first two challenges on a piece of parchment. Quote:

First Challenge:
Day of birth - Month of birth
(1+3) - (1+1)= 4 - 2
4 - 2= 2
Two: One of the most common challenges, the number two stresses sensitivity to all human relations.
Second Challenge:
Year of birth - Day of birth
(2+0+5+0) - (1+3) = 7 - 4
7-4 = 3
Three: When 3 is your Challenge, you're learning to recognize your emotions and speak from the heart.
First Challenge Age: Birth - 11
Second Challenge Age: 11 - 20
"Professor, I do believe I'm currently in my second challange age..." she paused, reading it over. "My second challenge age will last five more years. It started in my first year. My second challenge number is three... when apparently means that I am supposed to start 'recognizing my emotions' and begin 'speaking from the heart'." She fell silent. Surely this interpertation was wrong... she already knew how to do that, of course. Surely. "Is this right?"

You'll face test after test to determine if you've ultimately learned to stand firm and not compromise yourself.
"Er .. Professor? Is this alright?" Professor Shackleton glanced at the young woman's parchment and replied, "Yes, everything seems to be correctly calculated. Now, try to think how that explanation might apply to your early adult years." Quote:

Those who can answer my questions quickly and correctly get rewarded." Quote:

The First Challenge Age is calculated by using the formula, 36 minus the Life Path number. The Second Challenge Age is the First Age plus 9. Please recalculate those values." Quote:
