Inside Professor Macadrian Shackleton's office is a large, heavy mahogany desk, behind which stands a tall purple suede armchair. On the desk sit photo frames with numerous moving pictures of her identical sisters, her parents, other family and friends. There are several new photographs on the desk this year, some from her travels to Japan and others with friends she met up with over the break...

In addition to the frames, other items on her desk include a crystal vase filled with purple roses and orange lilies (Professor Shackleton's favorites), numerous small white candles in glass votive holders, an ink well and a peacock feather quill, a fresh blank piece of parchment, and plenty of books on the subject of Arithmancy.

The wall behind her desk consists entirely of shelves filled with books, most of which relate to Arithmancy, although there is an entire section for books on other school subjects, particularly Ancient Runes, Divination, and Astronomy.

By the large windows, bedecked with beautifully-ornate gold curtains, stands a mahogany coffee-table surrounded by squashy armchairs and covered in Wizarding magazines. Next to the armchairs is a small wooden cabinet with a glass front containing mugs, glasses, and small plates for entertaining company, such as students or other staff members. In the fireplace across the room is a fresh pot of hot cocoa warming above the fire. Professor Shackleton likes to always have a pot warming just in case company arrives and also for those long nights correcting homework!

Floating in midair are small numbers and calculations, clearly put there by a simply-cast Flagrate spell. Chasing the floating numbers around the room is a Birman cat with piercing deep sapphire eyes and fur golden in color, except around her face and her legs, which are a bit darker.

Of course, you do not see any of the office's contents until you knock on Professor Shackleton's door and she greets you to come in...

Jessica didn't have much to do so she decided to visit her favorite professor. She walked along the corridor until she reached Professor Shackleton's Office and then she knocked on the door shyly, waiting for a reply.

Macadrian had been looking over her plans for the Arithmancy review, jotting down which topics must be covered in order for the students to understand this term's material and crossing out those that were not needed. She had just gotten through the list when she heard a knock on her office door. Placing her quill back into its holder, Macadrian replied, "You may come in. The door is unlocked."

Macadrian folded her hands on the desk and wearing a warm smile, asked politely, "What can I help you with today?"

Jess pushed the door gently and entered quickly.
"Good afternoon, professor! I don't want to disturb you , I just came to greet you. It's nothing important." Jess said with her soft voice.
Now she thought it would have been a good idea to bring at least some flowers if she came to visit Professor Shackleton.

Professor Shackleton pushed aside her lesson plans and slowly closed the textbook that was lying open on her desk. Smiling at Jessica, Macadrian responded, "Good afternoon Jessica. Thank you for coming to visit me. It's always nice to have visitors! Why don't we have a seat by the windows?"

Professor Shackleton pushed her chair out from behind her desk, stood up and headed to the comfortable looking armchairs, gesturing for Jessica to join her. Before taking her seat, Macadrian asked, "Would you like something to drink? I have tea and hot chocolate warming over the fire as we speak. I also had the house elves bring up a tray of assorted cookies so we can share some of those while we catch up."

Macadrian removed her wand from inside her robes and with a quick flick of the wrist, her china cabinet had opened and two white tea cups and saucers flew out and landed on the table between the armchairs. With another flick, the pot with the cocoa and the kettle with the tea zoomed over to Professor Shackleton and hovered in midair. She took her seat in a large armchair apolstered in rich navy fabric and smiled at Jessica. Grabbing a cookie from the tray already sitting on the table between them, Macadrian asked, "So, how was your summer break? Do anything exciting?"

One of the reasons for which Jessica liked Professor Shackleton was because she was always very nice to her students. The girl took a seat and said politely: "I'd like hot chocolate if it isn't too much bother... "
"My summer was a pleasant one. It was the first time I went to a foreign country. I was amazed by the ellegance of the German castles." she answered.
"And how are you,professor?"

Macadrian waved off the girl's comment about being a bother and replied, "Not at all, my dear. I always have beverages on hand. I'm always so thirsty, you'd think I was a camel!" With a wave of her wand, the pot of cocoa began pouring the dark brown liquid into the two cups on the table, the steam rising from the cups in faint little swirls. "Be careful not to drink it too quickly. It is still quite hot and it might burn your tongue." Macadrian then summoned a pot holder to the table and set the hot chocolate pot upon it. The tea kettle was sent back to the fire and then Shackleton put her wand away.

"Now that drinks are taken care of, where were we? Oh yes, you had mentioned that you went to Germany. Isn't it a lovely place? The castles there are some of finest architectural beauties I've ever seen. Which was your favorite of the ones you saw?" Professor Shackleton took a large bite out of a chocolate chip cookie and chewed quietly as she sat.

Alex sighed as he reached the door of the Professer Shackleton he met during the feast, she was quite a nice wonderful, he heard her voice and another students, he hoped they didnt mind him disturbing them, he softly knocked on the door, and quickly shakes out the creases in his uniform, he wanted to look smart, sexy and was ready to greet the Professer as a gentleman properly this time.

While Professor Shackleton continued to munch on her cookie, she heard a knock at her door. Looking up to the doorway, Macadrian swallowed quickly and spoke loudly, "Come on in. It's open!"

Before the visitor had even stepped foot into her office, Macadrian had whipped out her wand and summoned another cup and saucer from the china cabinet. Gesturing to another armchair across from her and next to Jessica, Macadrian asked, "Why don't you have a seat and you can tell me what brings you by to see me?"

Alex stepped in quietly, not wanting to disturb the conversation, he closed the door gracefully, then turned to the ladies and bowed. He spoke in a soft french accent while his bright blue eyes twinkled. " I wanted to greet you properly, in uniform I must add." Alex gave Professer Shackleton a genuine smile, as he sat down neatly. You could tell this gentleman had manners, manners from Beauxbatons.

"Thank you for the chocolate, professor!" Jessica said, listening to her advice and drinking it slowly.
She smiled and greeted Alex when he joined them and wondered what was Beauxbatons like.
"My favorite was Neuschweinstein Castle in Bavaria. And I also thought the trip to Germany was a good idea because I could improve my German.
How was your summer like, Professor?" Jess asked, hoping it wasn't an impolite question.

He transferred here from Beauxbatons and was placed in Slytherin House."

Macadrian dunked a cookie in her hot cocoa and bit off a large piece. Chewing quickly to avoid speaking with her mouth full, Macadrian replied, "Oh you are quite welcome! And as for Neuschweinstein Castle, isn't it absolutely amazing? I think my favorite room would have to be the Grotto, between the study and the salon. You wouldn't expect such an... unfinished room to be found in such an exquisite castle, but I think it gives it a certain touch of something..." Macadrian replied simply after some thought,"extra. What about you? Did you get to tour the inside of the castle? What was your favorite room?"

Not wanting to exclude Alex from their conversation and curious about his experience with similar architectural gems, Macadrian asked, "Alex, have you ever been to any of the castles in Germany?" Macadrian finished her cookie quickly and took a short sip of her cocoa. It was still a bit too hot to drink at anything but a snail's pace so she continued the conversation by answering Jessica's question about her own summer.

"I had a delightful summer actually; visited with my sister in Greece. Spent a great deal of time on the beach, eating delicious food, and seeing some of the ruins and old villages on various islands. It was absolutely wonderful. But that's not to say that I'm not glad to be back. I'm actually quite excited to get started once again, filling your heads with numbers all year!" Professor Shackleton chucked softly, knowing that most of the students didn't retain anything she taught - hence, the need for a review session.

Amelia yawned for no apparent reason as she walked along the second floor corridor. She wasn't sure if it was true or not, but she heard a rumor that Macadrian Shackleton would be helping out around Hufflepuff this year, and she had to find out if it was true. If it was, then Amelia might as well just wrap the woman in a hug immediately from the joy of it.

As she approached the door to the Arithmancy Professor's office, she took a deep breath and knocked. This brought back memories of less than a year ago when the professors all gathered in this very office to figure out which teacher would be getting the sack. She quietly rocked back and forth on her heels as she looked around the hallway, waiting for Macadrian to call her in.

Saylie made her way slowly down the corridor until she was in front of Professor Shackleton's office. She had contined her studies throughout the summer, and had repeatedly wondered why this subject fascinated her so much. She smiled and tightened her grip on the book her father had given her right before she'd gotten on the train, and balanced the White Gerbera Daisy on top of it. She raised her hand to knock, but heard voices within. She paused, unsure of whether the Professor was too busy to chat, but finally knocked, assuring herself that if she was busy, she'd tell her to come back later.

"Yes, I have been inside the castle. I agree that the Grotto is impressive, but I also admired the Throne Room, built in Byzantine style. Neuschwanstein was just one of the attractions. I believe that Bavaria is a very beautiful region." Jess added.
"Greece? I hope to go there sometime. Anyway, I enjoy the seaside very much because I love swimming."
The girl heard the last words and smiled. " I like Arithmancy and the mysteries beyond the numbers. I can't wait for the first lesson!"
She drinked more of her cocoa, as it was not too hot anymore, while looking at Professor Shackleton and Alex.

Quickly she drew her wand and conjured another comfy armchair, then she summoned two more cups and saucers from her china cabinet. She offered politely, "How about a nicely conjured armchair? And would either of you ladies like some hot cocoa or tea? Perhaps a cookie or two?"

Macadrian nodded in agreement as Jessica mentioned the throne room, tucking her right foot under her left thigh to get more comfortable. "Bavaria is a very lovely region of the country. If you enjoy traveling so much and find Arithmancy to be to your liking, you may want to consider a career as a Gringotts curse-breaker. I can't tell you how many places I have been and sights I have seen while on the job. It was a truly wonderful career choice for me, and may be something you might like to consider." Macadrian raised her eyebrows playfully and hopefully at the same time, then added, "And as for the first lesson, I do hope you all enjoy it. Some Arithmancers ignore one of the areas I am going to teach, but I find it to be an especially interesting and helpful area of Arithmancy. I hope you agree once you've learned it."

Macadrian smiled warmly and picked up another cookie from the tray - peanut butter chocolate chip. Taking a small bite from the cookie, Macadrian closed her eyes briefly to enjoy the flavor. She did love, love, love peanut butter chocolate chip cookies. Once that flavorful morsel had been swallowed, she asked Alex, "So, what do you think of Hogwarts thus far? And do you have any questions about the school, the classes, or anything like that?"

Saylie smiled as she entered the professor's office and sat down in the proffered chair--it was quite squishy and comfortable. "Cocoa would be great, thanks Professor." She set her book down on the floor and retrieved the potted plant from on top of it. "This is for you, Professor, in case you find the links you were looking for last year." She ran a finger across the white petals of the Gerbera Daisy and handed the white pot to the professor, turning it so that the Opal embedded in the rim was facing the professor. It had taken her forever to find a pot that seemed to match the flower, but was glad she hadn't settled for a normal pot, this one suited much better.

They were now standing outside of the office door. "It's a full house," Max said after pressing his ear against the door. "We have to be loud and obnoxious . . . our reputations are at stake, so let's not blow it. Ready, Romeo?"

Fabian took a deep breath in then exhaled it out, he could feel his hand sweating already around the daisy's. "I can do this" he whispered to himself then gave Max a 'this is it' look before raising a brow at the full house comment. Dear Merlin, his next class would be most torturous with witnesses.

"Okay, lets go!" Fabian pushed the door open and bounced into the office, he tried to sing, but all he could do was gape open mouthed at Macadrian. Seconds passed but then he started singing.. "Heaven, Im in heaven ...and my heart beats so that I can hardly speak".. okay that wasn't the Hogwart's song they planned, but what first came to mind. He flashed the flowers ahead just in time for Max's cue to sing.

Jessica thought deeply about Professor Macadrian's advice. "I am very unsure about what career I should choose. I considered working at the Ministry at first, but now that you mentioned Gringotts, I believe it's a good idea, although I never thought of it before."
The girl realised she'd really like to work as a curse-breaker. What an interesting future perspective! Suddenly, she figured out it was quite late and the professor was becoming quite busy, so she thought she'd better leave.
"Thank you very much for the cocoa, it was delicious. I can't wait for the first Arithmancy class!"she said softly, standing up. "Thank you very much for your time, Professor! I hope I didn't disturb you! Good-bye!"

Saylie was still holding out the potted plant as her head of house and Professor Clark burst into the office. Her mouth fell open as Professor Clark burst into song. She was so stunned that the plant began to slip from her grasp. Thoughts raced through her mind and the next moments seemed to be in slow motion, the plant was falling...the plant she had worked so hard to find, the perfect pot, they were falling and there was nothing she could do about it. Hot cocoa in one hand the plant in the other, she could do nothing but watch helplessly, as if frozen, while the plant slipped from her fingers and fell in a graceful arc towards the floor.

As usual, Max knew how to make a scene and he wasn't paying attention to the song that Fabian chose to sing. He thought they were singing a Hogwarts song and put his sunglasses on. "For now they're bare and full of airrrrr! " he bellowed in a high-pitched voice like a rock star (but off-key) and pushed past Fabian, sliding on his knees with his arms outstretched. "Dead flies and bits of fluff, So teach us things worth knowinggggggg!" He looked like a complete buffoon with a stupid grin on his face and waited for Fabian to finish the song.
