The Herbology office had been strangely redecorated. Stepping in there are sounds of Mozart and Beethoven, for those who would recognize it. Most often playing is Moonlight Sonata. The walls are lined with black velvet, draped in blue and silver cloth. The atmosphere is dark and humid with exotic plants all around, small suns hanging over each one in different intensities. Some are rare, and some don't look familiar at all. At the back of the office is an oak desk with dark varnish and a black marble top. The chairs are dark oak with plush blue velvet and silver trim.

Behind the desk sits Professor Erikson, smiling softly and inviting you in. He's fairly pale for someone who works outdoor often (though fairly normal for the average person), with contrasting long black hair. Some of it falls into his face, but the rest is pulled back in a low ponytail. His soft blue eyes are accepting of the questions you have. As you have a seat he lowers the music volume.

"Yes, childe?"

Thank Merlin... "I will speak with her then..." She said still looking towards the door, "...and to no other."

"Now with your permission," she moved towards the door, but as she lay her hand on the handle she realized she needed to tell him something. She cast the muffliato spell and turned her hear, looking over her left shoulder. "I will always love you professor, nothing will ever change that. I always knew, it would never be." Her head turned to face the door. She lifted the muffliato spell and added "The difference now is that I accept it."

And with that, she left.

He smiled softly and somewhat fondly. "Good girl, Cassandra."

With a sigh he walked over to the door and looked at Camira. "Come on in, then. How can I help you?"

Camira raised an eyebrow at the Professor. He looked a bit...something. She wasn't sure what, but it felt like something was off. "Is everything okay, Professor", she asked as she walked in and closed the door. She didn't want to talk to him if he was in a bad mood.

"Turning into the school counselor already," he said with a smirk. "Don't worry about me, Camira. Come, tell me what's on your mind."

Camira rolled her eyes at him. She took a seat and just sat there for a moment, looking around. She noted a huge difference in the decor. "I see you've changed your office, professor. Going for that whole 'I'm secretly a vampire and yes, my plants can kill you' look, I see", she said playfully.

In truth, Camira had no idea how to bring up what she really wanted to talk about. First off, she had a feeling she wouldn't be able to do it without crying. Secondly, why would the professor want to here about it anyway. She sighed. "So, you had a good summer. What did you do?" Well, at least she was kind of close to the topic. It did involve summer.

He laughed. "It's not that different from before. There's just some things the plants needs that I must provide." He leaned against the desk, watching her carefully. Something was up. "Primarily raising my kids, spending time with friends, and planning for this term." Or would that be plotting? "What about you?"

Camira smiled nervously at him. She didn't like the way he was eying her. He knows, you moron. That's how transparent you are, she thought to herself. Sigh. It seemed her brain never got tired of scolding itself.

"It was quite boring really. Just stayed in th house, mostly. Father had a lot of arrangements to make." She had tried to sound nonchalant, she really had, but it was hard to do so when one's eyes were filling with tears. She took deep breaths in an effort to calm herself. Pull yourself together. My word, what are you, a Hufflepuff, she told herself. "Sorry, would you happen to have a tissue. It seems my allergies have sunken in", she lied smoothly. There. Much better. Maybe she wasn't completely hopeless after all.

He pulled a cloth from his robes and handed it to her. "Camira, you can be honest with me. What is wrong?"

Camira took the cloth and dabbed lightly at her eyes. She looked at Professor Erikson and suddenly she couldn't hold it in any longer. "My mother died", she blurted out. With that, she curled herself into a little ball in the chair, tears flowing more freely that the cloth was able to catch them.

"Oh, Camira..." He moved over and wrapped an arm around her, letting her make the decision if she wanted to be held. "I'm sorry to hear that."

Camira wrapped her arms around him as far as they would go, clinging to him with everything she had. She was pretty sure that if she let go, she'd fall because her legs felt like Jello and she was sure they were quite incapable of supporting her at this point. Her eyes were red and starting to puff, but the tears were relentless, it seemed. Camira didn't know what else to say. really, what else mattered. She had no parents as she didn't count her father as one in the first place. There was no one left to care about her and no matter how many times she told herself that wasn't true, she was never any closer to believing it.

He wrapped his arms around her, holding her close. Gently he whispered soft things in Italian, words that he only knew had been comforting to him. And he just let her cry, knowing it was what she needed the most.

After what felt like hours, but was actually about 5 minutes,the tears finally stopped. She let go off him, still a little shaky, but able to stand, and wiped away her tears. "My apologies, professor. I didn't mean to cry all over your clothes", she said formally. Formality was always something she could go back to. It was something that brought her comfort, no matter how fake it was. She sighed and just stood there, not knowing what to do next and hoping that Professor Erikson didn't think her weak.

"It's alright," he said softly, laying a hand on her shoulder. "It must be rough for you right now." He offered for her to sit once more and went around to the back of his desk. A short search later he brought back some fudge and cut her a slice. "Here, have a little."

Camira gave the professor a watery smile as he offered her a piece of fudge. "Thank you, sir", she said politely before taking a bite. It was very good. "Did you make this?" She pictured Erikson in an apron making fudge and smiled a bit. She was starting to feel a bit better.

Camira couldn't help but grin. "Did you wear an apron and everything", she asked excitedly, her pain momentarily forgotten.

Erikson glanced over at Jack. My, weren't students rude this term? "Excuse me, I'll answer your question when I am done." He escorted the student out then returned to Camira, rolling his eyes. "I do swear..." Though... he still didn't have an answer to her question. He finally settled for, "No, of course not." Though the red tinge coming to his cheeks told a different story.

Camira watched with shock as some rude Gryffindor just walked in and started talking. The nerve of some people. She was planning on telling him off, but the professor had him out the door in 10 seconds flat. God, how she wished she had power like that. She raised an eyebrow at the professor's response. "My goodness, you did. You did wear an apron." She clapped excitedly. "You're a horrible liar, by the way. You shouldn't blush so much if you don't want to give yourself away", Camira teased. If anything could put her in a good mood, it was teasing professors.

"That is true," he said with a laugh. "But I suppose it's better than the alternative." He leaned against the desk, still smiling. "Because you know, it's easy to have complete control over emotions. It really is. But there is a price to pay for it. You can't pick and choose, you know. It's all or none. If the cost of being able to keep smiling for students like you, then I'll pay the price of a little blush now and then." He winked at her then cut a small piece of fudge for himself.

"Well don't worry. I won't tell anyone", she said playfully. She thought deeply about his words though. "Professor, do you mean that if you hide your emotions, you can never show them", she asked, a bit confused. Maybe that would explain why her father didn't seem to care at all about what happened.

He looked her over then sighed. "Something like that. It is a state I still fall into unwillingly at times." He took a small bite of the fudge, thinking. "The concept is simple, really. It takes concentration and control. A certain sort of process. If you are happy, and smiling, then something happens suddenly to make you sad, then you are vulnerable. It will take a moment or two for you to control that emotion, and by then it has already affected you, and whoever has done it knows. Not to mention, it is difficult to gain control once you have already lost it. Thus, if you do not want to be affected, even for a split second, you must have control at all times."

Camira listened intently to the professor's explanation. It made quite a bit of sense. Maybe that's why she could never figure out how to hide her emotions a hundred percent. "I don't know. That sounds hard. Well, I mean, it seems like it would be hard to have any human interaction like that." She thought about her father and how he only spoke to people in a very formal manner. She wondered if he had real friends. People never came over for social visits. "How would you have friends?"
She belatedly realized something the professor had said. "You were like that before?"

"I still can be." He gave a small smile. "My best friend still is... Normally. There are triggers, ways of bringing ourselves there and back again. "As for friends... it's something that comes or doesn't. Around those that you trust, it becomes easier to just relax. Perhaps you'll meet him sometime and you can get an idea of how it is."
