The usual blackboards are at the front of class, one of them listing The Needs and Care of Flowering (and/or Fruiting) Plants. The text is in Armand's usual handwriting, though anyone who knows it would know that there were subtle differences.
Nothing is scattered across the tables at this particular moment. No plants, no soil, no fertilizer... none of it, actually. Erikson is waiting at the front as usual, greeting you as you come in. His left hand is bandaged, though not as heavily as it was just a while ago. | |

Hitachi finished hovering his net and extinguished the hovering spell with a slight mutter and a quick flick of his wand. The net fell on top of the vines. He noticed a first year struggle, but finally manage the spell. "Well done, young one." he said while patting her shoulder.

Janie looked over and saw that the girl that she thought was named Issy had been able to work the spell. Quite well in her opinion considering she had asked about it a little earlier. Once they were done she lowered her wand and flashed a smile over at Issy.

Erikson chuckled and pulled his own wand, though a little clumsily. With a wave he ended the spell for the young girl. "That would be Finite Incantatem, or sometimes simply willing your spell to end."
He went and got one of the spikes and showed them how to stake the net to the ground. "Leave a spot somewhat open. The netting should fall down around the entrance, but it needs to be open in order to pass through."

Walking over Janie said smiling, "you did really good, way better than I did my first time. I was practicing the spell at home and i said it wrong. Started my textbook on fire. Ya my dad wasnt happy," she said shrugging a little.

A grin of gratitude on her face, Isabella turned to the Professor, bowed her head, and thanked him. Hah! It wasn't so completely embarassing, either. He was pretty nice about -that relieved her.
Then she turned to the net, watching carefully the way the Professor staked the net. Somewhat open? It sounded a fair idea, and it could do no harm to follow his example. She moved to the side of the entrance, to keep the open space that the Professor called for and drove her own stake down.
And then she tried to drive it further.
In the end, she had to place one foot on the stake, lift the other off the ground and try to balance and apply all her pressure to it. Finally, it sunk into the ground.

The story made her giggle a little, in the 'Oh no!' kind of way. "Did you really?" she asked, reaching to wipe a bit of dirt off her shoes. "That's horrible. I bet he wasn't happy about having to replace it. I've only learned a few spells at home. Daddy thought it would be best if I did the majority of my learning here. But I can do Accio fairly well now." A small smirk crossed her mouth. "My brother's teddy was an amazing test subject.

He grinned, unable to help thinking of doing much the same thing while camping with his parents when he was younger. He looked back over to Xana, still with a small smile on his face. "Thank you, Xana. Any help right how is much appreciated, I'm afraid. If you could keep an eye on the students gardens, especially."

Janie laughed, No he wasn't, she said shaking her head. Ya that was like one of the only ones I learned cause of the fire. My dad bought me a new book, showed me how to properly do the spell, then took away my wand entill school started. She stifled a laugh seeing in her mind a teddybear flying through the air. Oh ya, I'm Janie Smith. Nice to meet you, she said in a mock business voice.

"I get some potions from the nurse, a numbing salve from Slade..." He smiled, thinking of it. "I could actually barely handle anything when I went to see him about the locket. When I got to his lab, the potion was wearing off but I wasn't due for more for another hour. He already had the salve and fresh bandages sitting on the table for me when I got there. He also told me that I need to have Natasha do everything for me right now. Though between you and I, she's probably about as good of an Herbologist as Slade is."

She nodded as he spoke about the salve. "I'm not surprised-- he seems to be very considerate about such things." Especially where you're concerned, he cares so much for you. she left the thought unspoken.
She laughed merrily at his commentary on Nataha's lack of a green thumb. "He's right- the more you rest it, the faster you'll heal. But I'll be happy to handle the student gardens and any other herbology-related tasks that you need done; I'm totally at your service. "

Putting stakes in the ground, not unlike pitching a tent and the first thing in the herbology class that had even sounded remotely familiar. There was something comforting about working with the soil here, unlike the course desert sands of Egypt. Apedemak finished staking down a section of the netting and moved on wordlessly performing the task.

He went ahead and just conjured the board out there, then tapped the board with his wand. The same handwriting came up with the homework assignment. Quote:
1) Research fertilizers what is the number (ex. 10-10-10) on fertilizers meant for flowers and generic fruits? (5 points)
2) How would you care differently for ground-based flowers (tulips and roses) than you would vine-based? Tree based? (5 points)
3) What other things might be added to the soil to help provide needed nutrients to flowering/fruiting plants? (5 points)
Extra Credit:
Pick one plant that flowers and track its lineage (is it a monocot or a dicot? from the magnolia family?). Find one other flower in the same family. Does it have the same care requirements? What can you determine from that? (5 points)
