| | Beginner/Remedial Arithmancy Review You enter the Arithmancy classroom to see neat and exactly-positioned rows of wooden desks and chairs, the latter of which have cushions in a myriad of colors and textures to match your comfort and liking. The walls are filled with thick wooden shelves, on which rest a seemingly endless number of Arithmancy texts and the occasional Ancient Runes and Divination reference. For those students who studied Arithmancy last year, the room looks very much the same, as does the woman awaiting your arrival.
When you look to the front of the room, you see a tall, blonde-haired woman sitting behind a desk made of dark angelique wood in an excessively large and comfortable-looking chair. On the desk is a small placard reading "Professor Macadrian A. Shackleton - Arithmancy," as well as a large stack of thin, bound booklets, an assortment of papers and quills, and several copies of the class textbook. She smiles at you as you enter the classroom and gestures for you to take a seat. As you glance up to the boards behind and to the sides of Professor Shackleton, you see a list of Arithmancy terms to be covered in today's review session: Quote: 1. Origins of Arithmancy
2. Pythagorean Number System
3a. The Core: The Life Path Number
3b. The Core: The Expression/Destiny Number
3c. The Core: The Heart's Desire/Soul Urge Number
3d. The Core: The Personality Number Have you done the reading yet? If not, you may want to glance over the appropriate chapters while you're waiting for Professor Shackleton to begin the review. |

"Ok, here comes the part where this lesson gets a bit more personal and, in my opinion, a bit more interesting. First things first - the concept of addition by reducing first, then adding together. As an example, we will use my birthday, but no comments about my age." Professor Shackleton joked with her students, then waved her wand and wrote in the air: Quote: November 22, 2028
11/22/2028
11 + 22 + 2028
(1+1) + (2+2) + (2+0+2+8)

Zora sat there as he classmates beat her to the punch or in this case the answer. She remembered the adding of numbers from last term and the mistakes she had made then. So she had no questions but took out her notes to see if she could start the adding of the numbers that made up hers as that was probably next.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Rickey Hampton Fifth Year | Beaming as Curt had won his house a few house points, Curt nodded with a laugh, "Yeah, she know's a thing or two." he said, pulling out a fresh piece of parchment since they were about to be doing some calculations. Curt wasn't a great mathmetician, but he understood the concept and nodded as Professor Shackleton explained it. Writing down his birthday on a piece of parchment, Curt waited for further instruction.

Anna quickly did the math and found out that she had "Life Path 4." "Hmmm, life of bookkeeping, accounting, and organizational work," Anna read to herself. Nothing about the future of Life Path 4 seemed to interest her. It didn't seem AT ALL like the exciting wizarding career she imagined herself having.
She flipped the page in her textbook and began searching for something else that would signal a more exciting life for her in the future.

| The REAL Sorting Hat: "Ravenclaw!" This monkey is bananas. Ariana smiled, finally she knew something. She couldn't help but feel a bit better. Perhaps she hadn't done so poorly at this part last term. She understood the concepts perfectly well, it was the calculations she ad problems with. She made a mental note to speak to the professor at a later date to discuss how she could manage to pass with an OWL and waited for further instructions.

Hitachi nodded slowly. "Ahhh I see, I'm not very good with numbers you see. Thank you!" Hitachi said while grinning at the girl who answered his question. Hitachi quickly did his calculations and found that his life path was 6. Looking through his textbook, he found his life path explanation. Quote:

This path is one of aid and service, and once you've learned this lesson, you'll move on to the next phase - achieving balance between giving and receiving. You're a born counselor - sympathetic and caring - which makes others seek you out for advice. Career/vocation options include any job in the service industry where you can make life more comfortable, easy, and luxurious for others, including medicine, decorating, beauty products, training animals, teaching, and counseling.

By grouping each number in parentheses, I ensure that I don't add them to the other numbers inappropriately before I reduce them.
Now, I would like everyone to write their birthdate in their journal or on the parchment for the older students who don't have theirs and emulate my calculations with your own numbers. In doing so, you will have calculated your Life Path Number. Also, refer to Chapter Six in your textbook to determine what your Life Path Number means. I will come around to check on your work, so raise your hand if you need any help."

Excelsior wasn't sure how well he would work with the public since he was often shy and afraid of some people, but he thought the part about travel sounded good. |

Anna already knew she had Life Path 4, but the professor was coming around to see everyone's calculations.
Anna wrote in her journal:
September 19, 2055.
9+19+2055 = 2083.
2+0+8+3 = 13.
1+3 = 4.
Anna scratched through that method, opting instead to try the method using the parenthesis.
9 + (1+9) + (2+0+5+5) =
9 + 10 + 12 =
9 + (1+0) + (1+2) =
9 + 1 + 3 = 13
(1+3) = 4.
"Hmmm," Anna thought to herself. No matter which way she went about finding her Life Path Number, she ended up with a 4. "Guess I am a number 4," Anna thought to herself, hoping she had done the calculations correctly.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Brianna Lynn Bunch First Year | Saylie had been sitting quietly, making sure that she had remembered everything from last term. This truly was her favorite course. She flipped through her journal and found an open page near the back, free of page numbers and quotes from the book. Then, even though she already knew her life-path number, she added it up again. Quote:
February 16, 2052
02/16/2052
2 + 16 + 2052
2 + (1+6) + (2+0+5+2)
2+7+9=18
1+8=9 She flipped idly to the page, though she was sure she could quote it from heart, and read the passage about 9. (ooc:current term is 2064-65)

Apparently her number was nine. Hopefully that was right. Looking in the book it did not seem so bad. It said something about - a path of universal love that learns compassion and tolerance- which sounded interesting. It was the same as the professors with different numbers of course.

According to the textbook: ONE (1): Your path will take you down the road to independence, and you'll learn its benefits standing on your own two feet and becoming a strong individual. Once you've honed these traits, you move to the next level - leadership. You're a born leader and your path in life will present you with many opportunities to demonstrate your ability. Your strong pioneering spirit, courage, and determination will serve you well along this road. Career/vocation options include fields where you can use your quick mental agility, such as business, health, government, or even a bookstore.
She was rather pleased with the results...mental agility..perfect for a Ravenclaw...she thought with a smile. |

| Shoe!Girl │ Rebel Ravie │ Confundus Queen │ RP Addict Rhiannon wrote her birth date down in her journal. February 26, 2048. On another line, she translated it into it's numerical equivalent and started adding: 2/26/2048, 2+(2+6)+(2+0+4+8), 2+8+14, 2+8+5, 1+5 = 6. She circled her answer and flipped through her textbook to find out what it meant. She finds the correct page and reads: Quote:

She raises her eyebrows, as she wasn't really certain if the paragraph was actually accurate. ooc: If the current year is 2064, I know that Rhiannon's birth year would be 2048. I did the math, since she's sixteen. But I'm curious upon reading others' birth years, since they aren't supposed to be the same age as Rhiannon.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Rickey Hampton Fifth Year | Turning the pages in his textbook to the one's concerning Life Path Number's, Curt took a deep breath before doing his mathmatical calculations. This was going to be interesting....Quickly, yet without error, Curt's chicken scratch handwriting quickly spread across the parchment in the form of numbers. Quote:
October 31, 2049
10/31/2049
=(1+0) + (3+1) + (2+0+4+9)
=1+4+(15)
=1+4+6
=11
Once he had finished, he looked over it thoughtfully before looking up the definition in the book. He read over it carefully, and was pretty confident in what it said, because it really did seem to describe his aim's in life in a generic way. The last two lines really caught Curt's eye, and the possible meanings really inspired him, You're destined for inspired leadership. Live up to the demands of devotional living and you shall be the leader your were born to be. Curt raised his hand, "I'm done over here Professor, is there anything you can tell me about it that the book can't?" He said, extremely interested.

| The REAL Sorting Hat: "Ravenclaw!" This monkey is bananas. Ari couldn't help but smile. Luckily she had saved all her calculations from the previous term and flipped through her journal to find the one page that was all bright pink. She found it quickly and grinned. Taking a new quill and bottle of ink she wrote in the ledger: Quote:
May 13, 2048
05-13-2048
(0+5)+(1+3)+(2+0+4+8)
(5) + (4) + 14 (1+4)
(5) + (4) + (5)
14 = (1+4)
(1+4)= 5
Looking at her work she nodded, it all lookedd right. Her Life Number is 5, and so she looked up the number in her textbook. She blinked at how scarily accurate it was, except for the career part. She would be working with creatures, she knew it. She looked up and raised her hand, "I'm finished professor." She said kindly.
