| | Arithmancy Lesson 1: Karma & Numbers of Competence As you step through the Arithmancy classroom doors, you see the room set up as it always is: neat and exactly-positioned rows of wooden desks and chairs, the latter of which have cushions in a myriad of colors and textures to match your comfort and liking. The walls are filled with thick wooden shelves, on which rest a seemingly endless number of Arithmancy texts and the occasional Ancient Runes and Divination reference. For those students who studied Arithmancy last year or who came to the review session, the room looks very much the same, as does the woman awaiting your arrival.
When you look to the front of the room, you see a tall, blonde-haired woman in tangerine-colored robes leaning against a desk made of dark angelique wood. On the desk is a small placard reading "Professor Macadrian A. Shackleton - Arithmancy," as well as a small stack of thin, leather-bound booklets, an assortment of papers and quills, and several copies of the class textbook. She smiles at you as you enter the classroom and gestures for you to take a seat. |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Brianna Lynn Bunch First Year | Saylie raised her hand again. "Your hidden Passion number is calculated from the most prevalent number in your name. It represents a talent or area of expertise that shapes your life. Like you are better at it than anything else, and you rely on that. It gives you the desire to want to cultivate it into an even stronger trait and that shapes and guides who you are. For example, mine is 5. This means that I am incredibly flexible and versatile, I enjoy frequent changes in scenery via travel and new challenges, which is completely true!"

Did she just mispronounced the name of the thing. That was no good so she just slouched in her chair hoping no one noticed.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Brianna Lynn Bunch First Year | Saylie thought back to the professor's question and added, "Oh, and the subconscious number is the number of numbers represented in your name...take 9 and subtract your debts, then you have your subconscious number. It reflects your confidence and your personal competence."

After raising her hand, Anna replied, "Your Hidden Passion number represents one or more specific skills and strengths that are available for you to use. It's pretty much what you possess within you that will guide your life properly. This number gives you your talent and expertise that you should concentrate on in order to shape your life properly. When this talent exists within you, it provides you with a strong desire and an urge to develop and express that ability and experience it in a manner that will shape your personality and guide your life. To find it, all you have to do is lay out your full birth name, assign each letter the appropriate number (from chapter 2 of the textbook) and determine the number that is repeated most often. This number is your Hidden Passion Number."
"For example," Anna continued. "The number 5 occurs most often in my name, so that would be my Hidden Passion Number. It tells me that I am a pleasure-seeker...and a bit impulsive."
"The Sobconscious Self Number is exactly as it's name suggests - it reflect the confidence and security you have in your personal competence. It also reflects your ability to assess a situation you are presented with and choose the correct way to handle that aituation. To find this summer, you lay out your birth name the same way you do with your Hidden Passion Number. This time, you count the numbers represented in your name. You can also subtract your number of Karmic Lessons from 9. My number is 9, which tells me that I often keep my feelings at bay."

'The hidden passion number shows where you have a special strength or power. It is found by assigning numbers to the consonants in your full name. The largest quantity of a number or numbers wins. For example, I have the most 5s in my name.
The Subconscious Self Number tells you how confident you are. You find it be seeing how many numbers are in your full name….in my name there are 8, as I only have 1 number missing.' |

Professor Shackleton leaned against her desk at the front of the room and explained, "Now, I am going to put some notes on the board with examples of how to calculate both of these numbers. When I am finished, I would like you all to do the same for yourselves in your journals. When you have found the correct numbers, refer to Chapter 14 of the textbook to find what each of those numbers mean. OK? So on to my example..."
Macadrian turned and with her wand began writing in fiery red letters in mid-air that read: Quote: Hidden Passion Number
Using the full name listed on your birth certificate, lay out your name and assign the appropriate number to each letter using the chart given in Chapter Two of the text. The number that is most often repeated in your full name represents your HPN.
Example:
-1--1--91--1---9------1----5-6
MACADRIAN ASHLING SHACKLETON
4--3-49--5--1-83-57-18-323-2--5
ONE (1): 7 present
TWO (2): 2 present
THREE (3): 4 present
FOUR (4): 2 present
FIVE (5): 4 present
SIX (6): 1 present
SEVEN (7): 1 present
EIGHT (8): 2 present
NINE (9): 3 present
Number most often repeated: ONE (1)
Meaning: You possess a powerful desire to attract attention. You have great aspirations and a drive to accomplish. You are quite competitive and want to be at the top in all you do. Highly enthusiastic, industrious, and innovative, you are capable of influencing and even dominating others. Just as others may do to you, causing you to succumb to manipulation unless your ideals are high. Ironically, you sometimes lack resoluteness, especially at a younger age, but you have the strength to overcome this with time. Many great athletes and politicians have this number. Professor Shackleton continued her notes, this time in bright purple: Quote: Subconscious Self Number
Using the full name listed on your birth certificate, lay out your name and assign the appropriate number to each letter using the chart given in Chapter Two of this text. Count the amount of numbers represented in your name. It is possible to have all nine numbers represented in your name, or fewer than nine; in fact as few as three or as many as eight. You may also find this number by subtracting the number of Karmic Lessons (as in, the quantity or amount of lessons, not the numbers of the lessons themselves) from 9 to arrive at your Subconscious Self number.
Example:
-1--1--91--1---9------1----5-6
MACADRIAN ASHLING SHACKLETON
4--3-49--5--1-83-57-18-323-2--5
Numbers Present: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 = All nine numbers present
OR
9 - (#Karmic Lessons) = 9 - 0 = 9 Subconscious Self Number = 9
Meaning: Though you often experience deep emotions and immense compassion, you do not often demonstrate your affections, keeping your feelings to yourself and appearing somewhat impersonal and difficult to get to know. You have no specific Karmic Lessons and are therefore not as vulnerable to Life's ups and downs as others.

| SS Senile Senior Qaz wrote in her journal:
Hidden Passion
Qaz Artio Windsong
(8+v+8) + (v+9+2+v+v) + (5+v+5+4+1+v+5+7)
Three 5s was the winner.
From the Textbook: FIVE (5): Incredibly flexible and versatile, you enjoy frequent changes in scenery via travel and new challenges. Writing, promotion, and public relations work suit you perfectly because you have a gift with languages, a good sense of humor, and a quick tongue. You are a pleasure-seeker and a bit impulsive, the combination of which can get you into trouble. Overindulgence is common among people with too many 5s - six or more. Your desire for freedom and escape is extremely strong and it will take effort and discipline to stick with whatever it is you started. You may be interested in too many things, which can make it hard for you to apply yourself to one area successfully, and cause you to give up prematurely. Learn to commit to your work and relationships and you will find happiness.
Subconsious Self
(c-1-c) + (1+c+c+ 9+6) + (c+9+c+c+c+6+c+c)
Qaz Artio Windsong
(8+v+8) + (v+9+2+v+v) + (5+v+5+4+1+v+5+7)
Present:1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9
From the textbook: EIGHT (8): Your ability to learn and act quickly, combined with your ability to stay calm and not panic, makes you able to manage unexpected circumstances in an effective and competent manner, using your business-like demeanor to somehow make the most and get the best out of it. You want to be rewarded for your efforts and relate your success to the material aspects. You show leadership and organization and are physically courageous and competent.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Callie Hawkins Graduated | Kerry looked at her journal: Quote: K-E-R-R-Y
2-6-9-9-7 M-A-R-I-E
4-1-9-9-5 B-R-A-N-D-Y-W-I-N-E
1 found 2time(s)
2 found 2 time(s)
3 found 0 time(s)
4 found 3 time(s)
5 found 3 time(s)
6 found 1 time(s)
7 found 2 time(s)
8 found 0 time(s)
9 found 6 time(s)
"My hidden passion number must be 9! I have it 6 times" Kerry thought to herself as she went to look up the meaning of the number. Quote: NINE (9): Warm, generous and compassionate, you would do well and be quite happy in any undertaking that not only supplies you with a decent living but also is for the good of all. You are artistic, the nine is responsible for many of our creative geniuses, however these talents are often suppressed, sometimes coming to the surface at middle or old age. You have a strong desire for insight and universal knowledge. You are emotional, your feelings are not always sensible and they too are often suppressed. You can get caught up in dreams and ideals without being practical but with enough fire and enthusiasm to attract support. Your oratorical abilities save many a situation. You are driven to do your own thing and are quite independent.
"Well it's good to see I finally have some talents" Kerry laughed as she read it. "I'm warm, generous and compassionate. I can deal with that." Kerry joked as she began to add more notes into her journal.
When she was finished, she rubbed her aching wrist. One more to go. Subconcious number. Let's see... I have 7 out of the 9 numbers. Therefore 7 must be my lucky subconcious number. Now let's see what that means..." Kerry said as she turned to her text book. Quote:
SEVEN (7): You are sensible and wise, but can present as aloof and apathetic to your surroundings. When faced with tribulations, you withdraw to the inner workings of your creative and analytical mind to find the answers you require and solace, thereby allowing you to survive the storm. You may be a bit of a loner and do not easily share your feelings with others.
"Aloof and apathetic to my surroundings? I withdraw when I face tribulations. Then why the heck am I prefect." Kerry laughed to herself as she wrote this all done. "I do have to say, I definitely look to creative solutions to solve things sometimes and I am a bit too analytical...so that's on track but I don't think I'm a loner." Kerry pretended to pout to herself as she finished writing the last of these notes into her journal.
"Finally caught up!" Kerry smiled. "That was a lot of work today. Thank goodness for these journals." Kerry quipped.

I think I may have the hang of this
A L E X A N D R A
1 3 5 6 1 5 4 9 1
S T U A R T
1 2 3 1 9 2
B L A C K
2 3 1 3 2
Now my common number here is 1 : In the text book it means
:You possess a powerful desire to attract attention.
Now if this is acurate, I do need to be careful around others. But this also explains why I get so frusted when I try and had not gotten any house points yet for Ravenclaw , it probably would help once I take more that 2 classes and I need to remember I am still in my first year..

| The REAL Sorting Hat: "Ravenclaw!" This monkey is bananas. Ariana felt like banging her head aagaisnt the desk in a vain attempt to understanding all the Arthimancy before her. She was in complete and uttter shock at how easy everyone else was understanding everything, even the new students and she sighed, placing her quill on her desk and calm down.
A few minutes later she set to work, starting a fresh new page in her journal. She already had her core numbers, which was good, but now she had to figure out everything else. It all seemed easy enough, at least for everyone else. Sometimes she felt like she wasn't meant for Ravenclaw, surely she wasn't bright enough. Shaking the sad thought from her mind she began working.
Feeling like she had completely mised the whole lesson she hurridly did the last parts, finding her hidden passion number and Subconcious number. This should be easy enough she thought writing furiously. Quote:
Vowels:-----------------1--9-1----1------9----- 9-5-1---------1-----9 6
Full name:--------------A-r-i-a-n-a---- S-i-b-l-i-e-a-n---- C-a-s-t-i-o-r
Consanants:--------------9----5---1---5-3------5 3---1-2---9
1: 7 Times
2: 1 time
3: 2 times
4: None
5: 4 times
6: 1 time
7: None
8: None
9: 6 times
"Hmm, one is my hidden number?" She asked herself a bit shocked as she wrote down what it meant. Quote:
ONE (1): You possess a powerful desire to attract attention.
She read it slowly and blinked. "I do not attract attention!" She murmured, slightly miffed at the analysis. Shaking her head, she found her subconcious number by looking for how many numbers she had in the analysis. "Hmm, six numbers huh?" She whispered, weiring this odwnn in her journal. Quote:
SIX (6): Your overwhelming concern for helping others, especially your family, sometimes results in you ignoring your own needs. Everything else comes second to your home, including you. Because you emanate love and genuine concern for others, during times of distress your friends and family will turn to you, just as you turn to your family and friends.
"Now that sounds like me." She murmured, nodding her head and glaring at the first note she took. She looked up and waited for the professor to come check her work. She frowned, then wrote down her ore numbers, plus her Maturity number just so she'd have it. Quote:
Life Path Number = (1+4)= 5
Destiny Number = 1+4 =5
Soul Number = 1+6 = 7
Personality= 1+6 = 7
Maturity Number = 10 = 1+0 = 1
She stopped writing and put her head down on her dessk. I'll never figure this out she thought sadly, looking up.

While we often learn and consider each number isolated from the others, the reality is that they are all relative to one another. You're thinking like a true Arithmancer! Excellent job Saylie."
After what she thought was a sufficient amount of time, Professor Shackleton returned to the front of the room and announced, "Alright, folks. I think that is enough for today. We covered a lot in today's lesson and I'm very proud that majority of you were able to keep up and understand. For those who still have lingering questions or concerns, feel free to visit my office and we can discuss them. Also, I recommend rereading the textbook and recalculating your own numbers just to be sure you've done them correctly.
"The homework for today's lesson will be posted soon. You will have one week from the date and time that I post it to turn it in to me. Have a good afternoon."
