The gates to the Quidditch Stadium open and you walk through a short tunnel onto the green grass of the pitch. At the center of the pitch are two rows of school broomsticks lined up neatly. Professor Vindictus is standing nearby with a clipboard in his hands and a grin on his face. "Welcome to your first flying lesson!" he says in greeting to each student as they timidly approach him. "Come gather around but do not touch the brooms!"

This class is for First Year Students only. If you are not a first year student in the school RP and decide to post/participate in this lesson, you will lose Houe Points and possibly gain a date in the dungeons (the professor has a stack of holiday greetings for his fans that needs to be assembled and addressed).

OOC: This lesson will be ongoing throughout the day so that those living in different time zones can participate. Be creative and have fun in this lesson so that you can earn House Points. However, there is one thing that I ask - no injuries please. Splinters, scraped knees and elbows, or even bruises but no broken bones or broomsticks catching fire.

Austin walked out on to the pitch. Wearing his Quidditch practice robes and carrying his broom, Austin nodded to the professor, "Hello Professor."

"I'm doing wonderful on this fine day," Vindictus beamed and looked at the students who were there. "I guess we'll get started." He cleared his throat and began to recite:

The players assembled, twelve fine, hearty men,
They strapped on their cauldrons, stood poised to fly,
At the sound of the horn they were swiftly airborne
But ten of their number were fated to die.

"Can anyone tell me which game this verse refers to?"

"Very good, Agie. Five points to Gryffindor for your answer," Vindictus beamed and pulled a strange looking helmet out from under the blue tarp. "Can anyone tell me what is different about this helmet?"

While he asked questions, the lumpy mess under the second tarp began to twitch slightly . . . .

"Not only that," Ryan said, referring to Aggie's comment, "but it can't bee that strong, as it didn't prevent all of the fatalities that led to the banning of the game in 1762."

"Wow", Taylie thought " Not as many people here as I thought would be. I sure hope this is not to hard for me". She wrapped her arms around herself trying to warm up a little and to shake off the nerves of taking her first final exam here at hogwarts.

"Good answers, both of you! Five points each to Gryffindor and Ravenclaw. Now for our class, we are going to play a modified version of Creaothceann," Vindictus said cheerfully and pulled off the blue tarp to reveal a pile of state-of-the-art helmets that had cauldrons affixed to the top of each. "Each of you needs to grab a helmet and strap it on."

While he spoke the other covered pile shuddered once again under the tarp . . . .

Ryan did a double-take. "Wait...what? These helmets are...a lot...tougher than the real ones, right? I certainly don't want to die, although it would be fun to haunt the school..."

Ryan's eyes were moving frantically from helmet to the Professor's face. Helmet. Face. Helmet. Face.

He noticed the moving tarp out of the corner of his eye. "Don't tell me those are bludgers. Please don't tell me they are. Bludgers hurt. They did play with bludgers, in addition to stones, didn't they?" He made a face like this:

before wrapping his arms around his body. His breathing quickened....but he was ready?

Whatever. He grabbed a helmet and tried to place it on his head, but it made him so top-heavy he could barely balance it on his head. "Professor, how are we supposed to even keep our heads up?" he said, stumbling.

Okay...so he's a bit over-dramatic right now.

Austin grapped a helmet as a fellow Ravenclaw boy was freaking about the fact that they were about to play Creaothceann. Austin was interested on how they were going to play the game without injurying themselves.

Agie was excited to be giving the game a try. She grabbed the helmet and put it on tightly. "Umm professor, we look hideous in these things" She said while laughing.

She stood there ready, waiting for further instructions.

Vindictus laughed and there was a sparkle in his blue eyes. "This is going to be so much fun! The rest of you need to put your helmets on or else you'll have one massive headache!" he exclaimed to the other students who were silently gawking at his instructions.

Helmet placed awkwardly on his head, Ryan had to spread his legs, stick his arms out, and stick his tongue out to maintain his balance. If it was this hard to just stand with it on, how was he going to fly on his Firebolt with it?! lawl.

Taylie walked over to the tarp being careful to stay away from the other one that was, at the moment, shaking terribly. She picked up a helmet and put it on her head hurrying back to stand with the other students.
"How can we play this game", she thought, "I sure hope I don't get hurt".

Cora grinned happily. Whilst listening to the Professor, she found herself wishing that she'd gone out for the team, rather than listening to her own superstitions and insisting to Marco that she simply couldn't play. She sighed. She fresh air, the brooms, and the quaffle. How she wished she could throw that ball into the hoop one more time...

Coming back down to earth with a thud, Cora siezed a helmet and thrust it upon her head. She laughed at Agie who was complaining about how she looked in it. "C'mon, Agie!" She chuckled. "It's not about how well you look, it's about how well you play." There was a strange twinkle in her eyes. Ohh, she couldn't WAIT.

Bess was ready to play though you couldn't deny her getting taken aback when professor anounced this! It sounded interesting though ..... she hoped it wouldn't get too dangerous....

Creothceann, Excelsior thought, wondering if the professor was serious. He knew that creothceann was a very dangerous game. Disgusted from the match they had lost and other lousy events, Excelsior was in no mood to argue with anyone so strapped on a helmet and hoped for the best.

Amelia just stood there listening to the Professor and her classmates go on about this Creothceann thing. She loved quidditch, but somehow playing something as dangerous didn't seem real to her. Like it was against the rules. She sighed and not wanting to lose points from Hufflepuff, went over to strap on the helmet. Then rather quietly she raised her hands and spoke to the Professor, "Er, no one is going to die from this activity, right?" she asked in curiosity.

Torie did as she was told, although she still looked over at Professor Vindictus suspiciously. Nervously, she did up the chin strap and looked over at her classmates. They all seemed concerned too. Was the Professor true to his name after all? Torie guessed she would find out soon enough.

Seth wasn't very happy with the activity. He sucked at flying, and that game seemed dangerous. Still, he put the helmet on and strapped it, waiting for futher instructions.

Vindictus chuckled at the students' doubts. "Don't worry about anything," he said reassuringly. "Before I tell you more about what's under the tarp, can someone please share with us how the game Creaothceann was played?"
