Lesson Two: Packing Charm

Despite the upheaval due to the precipitous arrival of the Ministry Official, Professor Branxton was his usual uptight and perfectly proper self. Nothing less than the kidnapping of his children seemed to phase him. He opened the door to his classroom and walked toward the chalkboard.

He waved his wand to charm a grid onto the backboard, then began to write in his perfect hand:

The Packing Charm

Alycya walked silently into the classroom. She looked around and found that she was the first there. This was the first time she had been first to class. She found a seat that was in the middle of the class and set her things down upon it. She looked up at Professor Braxton and said, "Hello Professor, how are you today?" She continued to get her stuff out of her bag. She got her parchment and a quill and wrote The Packing Charm across the top of the parchment. She placed her quill down on her desk and looked up to the front of the class, waiting for the class to begin.

Cassandra walked into the charms classroom. She sat at the front of the class and smiled at Branxton. "Good morning," she said as she pulled out her book and placed it in front of her.

Dasha 12-04-2007 01:27 PM

Ginny walked in slowly, and smiled the packing charm, finally soemthing she could use, SHe smiled at the professor "hello, looks like it is going to be an interesting lesson" she said smiling at placing her books on the table.

"Good morning, class," Professor Branxton smiled slightly and cleaned his glasses. After putting them back in place he clasped his hands behind his back. "As you can see, we will be discussing and learning the packing charm. I know this is an horrifically simple question and I apologize for insulting your intelligence but, please bear with me and think of it as an attempt at jump starting your brains this morning. How does this charm fit with our current theme: Charms for Travel?"

kami12 12-04-2007 02:39 PM

"It helps in packing stuff faster without wasting time" Ray replied

Keysquah 12-04-2007 02:42 PM

Laylee smiled as she walked into Charms and got her things out at her desk. She wrote down a few answers on her parchment when he asked the simple question and turned her text book to the appropriate page.

Droo 12-04-2007 02:51 PM

"It's a quick way to place everything into a bag, when traveling..." Cassandra said with her hand high in the air.

Angie 12-04-2007 03:21 PM

well, I suppose it can help when you are in a hurry, or if you are late to take your portkey.." her voice trailed off as she said this with her hand in the air

Biochemkris 12-04-2007 03:33 PM

"Yes, exactly," the professor nodded. "Now, has anyone had any experience with this charm? Perhaps it is something you've seen your parents do or you read about it in the book?"

PhoenixRising 12-04-2007 03:37 PM

Amelia finished copying down how the packing charm fit with the current theme, and then raised her hand nodding, "Yes Professor. My mother does an excellent packing charm, which she tried to show me when packing for Hogwarts. Sadly I was not able to get it down then, but I shall try again now that I am older."

Droo 12-04-2007 03:40 PM

"I've read about it..." It was a house elf who packed Cassandra's bag, her mother never taught her manual labor spells...

Golden Monkey 12-04-2007 03:58 PM

"I've read about it Professor, but I haven't seen anyone perform it, except my mother, but she's not the best at them." Ariana replied, raising her hand and smiling. She was excited to learn this spell, perhaps it would be the best thing for her dirty dorm of doom. She wrote down more information, keeping an eye on the professor in case there as another question.

Torie turned bright pink and raised her hand tentatively. "I've been experimenting with it for a few years now, Professor, but I haven't quite managed to get it to pack smoothly yet. My trunk is usually no better packed than when I do it myself without magic."

Slytherin Fox 12-04-2007 04:21 PM

"I've never actually tried to use that charm myself, but I have seen somebody use it once, a long time ago," Excelsior said.

DalekDeatheater 12-04-2007 04:41 PM

Monica raised her hand. "I have seen my Uncle use it a lot."

BanaBatGirl 12-04-2007 05:01 PM

Rapunzel raised her hand after thinking for a few moments. “Sir, is this charm similar to one used for unpacking?” she asked. Rapunzel had seen one used by a classmate at Hogwarts, but she’d never been able to do the charm herself.

XanaSnape 12-04-2007 05:07 PM

Xana raised her hand slightly and spoke in a soft, shy voice from her seat at the back of the class. "I've performed this charm before, several times. But I never pack much when I've used it anyway-- I travel light."

She'd moved around so much that she couldn't imagine not using this kind of practical charm... she hoped she wouldn't be in trouble for speaking up in class; she still felt unsure of the rules in these settings.

Biochemkris 12-04-2007 05:43 PM

"It is similiar, I suppose, to the unpacking charm but, quite different in most aspects," Professor Branxton replied. "The incantation is very simple and easy to remember. Those of you unfamiliar with the charm may even be able to guess what it is. So, who can tell me?"

Slytherin Fox 12-04-2007 05:50 PM

"I believe it's simply the word pack," said Excelsior.

Golden Monkey 12-04-2007 05:51 PM

Ari thought for a moment her brow furrowed. What was the spell she used? Oh, right! "That wouldn't be Pack would it Sir? I remember my mom using that incantation." she replied, her hand raised. It sounded right to her ears.

FoxFire 12-04-2007 05:53 PM

Gwen frowned. Pack? That's it? No Latin?

ooc: btw, the ital is a thought, not verbal...just in case...

Droo 12-04-2007 05:59 PM

"Pack" Cassandra said. "But you may want to pair it with Accio as well, to gather your things."

Biochemkris 12-04-2007 06:04 PM

"Yes, you are absolutely correct. And the wand motion is, thus," he said and demonstrated the sweeping motion of his arm. Then, he placed some objects on his desk along with a bag. He swept his wand over the desk and said, "Pack." The items flew into the bag which zipped itself shut.

ooc: Here's the video. Professor Branxton has only shown the very first segment "Basic Wand Movement" so, just pause the movie there and we'll continue along in a moment. :)

Marco pulled out his wand, and swept it across his desk, in the sweeping motion Branxton had shown them.

"Right and PACK. Ok lets do this," he muttered. He pointed at his paper, "Pack" he swept. His paper flew into his bag.
