Lesson Three: Shrinking & Enlargement Charms Doyle unlocked his classroom and then stepped inside. He headed up to his desk as usual. He sat down and began cleaning his glasses as he waited for the students to arrive, his thoughts running to Lainey. |
Ryan walked into charms. Ahh, his favorite subject. He was ready for a great lesson. He was tired from Quidditch, but he was ready. "Hi, Professor!" he said cheerily as he walked in. "What are we doing today?" |
"Good morning, Mr. Lee," Professor Branxton responded as he placed his glasses back on. "We are continuing our discussion of travelling charms." |
Meredith tucked a strand of her dark brown hair behind her ear as she entered the classroom. She felt a little embarrassed that she had missed the first two lessons and wanted to make up for it, so she was going to try her best. She took a seat and pull out her parchment, quill, and everything else she needed. |
Diabollica walked into the room and set her things near the front. "Hello, professor! Hope you're doing well." |
"Good Morning Sir," Marco said, rather cheerily. He was usually never this cheery. |

"Oh. That's cool," he said. |
"Hello professor Braxton, how are you doing today?" Willow said as she entered the charms classroom and took sit. |
Hi professor." Josh said with a smile as he sat down. He decided to sit by himself today instead of sitting next to dia. He sighed as he dug through his bag for his things. |
"Greetings, Professor," Excelsior called out upon entering the classroom. He always enjoyed the Charms classes. |
"I am doing well, thank you. Good morning," Professor branxton replied and greeted the students as they walked in and took their seats. "We'll wait a few more minutes for the stragglers and then we'll begin." |
'Hello, professor.." Xana came and sat by Diabolica. "Hey, Josh!" she smiled. |
Sho walked in and smiled to the professor. "Hello, sir," he said to Prof. Branxton. He sat down next to Ryan and poked his side a bit so he knew he was there. |
Professor Branxton stood, pocketing his handkerchief. He strode around the desk and clasped his hands in front of him, feet slightly apart, and standing straight. "Today we will be discussing two more useful charms for travel. The shrinking and enlargement charms. I am certain their uses for travel are quite obvious but, perhaps we can come up with some ingenious uses for them. So, how can we use these two charms for travel?" |
Ryan raised his hand. "A shrinking charm can be used to make items smaller, thus making them easier to carry. An enlargement charm would be needed to return the items to their natural states." |
"You could shrink your luggage and put less strain on your back carrying it or have more room in the ca-..." he said, forgetting the whole magic thing again, "car..." He blushed a bit. "Or... uh... you could enlarge your suitcase to fit more in it." |

Amelia loved the theme of traveling charms this term, because she loved to travel and was always looking for ways to make it easier. She raised her hand, "An enlargement charm might be useful for the inside of a bag or car to make things roomier so that you may bring more things. However, you don't want something very bulky, so you use a shrinking charm." |
"Well, if you are traveling in a dangerous place, a shrinking charm can be useful to hide your stuff from the thieves isnt?" Willow asked feeling a little uncertain |
"Yes, those are all very good uses. Different enlargement charms are used to increase the amount of space inside suitcases, bags, and purses as well as to bring shrunken objects back to normal size. Shrinking charms are usually used to conceal or make carrying objects easier. Can you think of any unconventional travel uses for these two charms?" ooc: I'm heading off to bed so, you can answer but, please don't talk among yourselves (remember, I may not be here but, Professor Branxton is). Thanks dudes. :) |
"Unconventional?" he said softly to himself. "I suppose you could use the enlarging charm on your mode of transportation to fit more people inside." |
"If you're ever attacked," Ryan began, "You can enlarge your fist and punch the assailant." BAM! |
Bess raised her hand and answered, ' You can enlarge a door to let more people in, avoid a traffic in your party. Or to make really tall people find it easy to enter trough a door. Shrinking can be done to a valuable thing to hide it safely somwhere. You can enlarge it when you need. Or if you'e going on a trip, instead of making you bags larger, just shrink your things, to make them less in weight. Enlarge as per requiremnt.' |
The sizes can be manipulated to fit your indiividual needs. Suppose you are trying to transport somebody who's really fat, the only way you could carry this person is by shrinking them. You can change the size of things so people don't even recognize what they are anymore, thus fooling someone who you want to keep it from (like if you're getting them a special gift or something.) Or, just to play a trick on someone. |
This question was much more difficult than originally though, because it made Amelia really think about some unconventional means. She just sat there quietly for a moment, listening to what her classmates were saying, but it was when that young Slytherin, Excelsior - she thought his name was, spoke up that she really got an idea. "Professor Branxton? Couldn't these spells be useful in stealth and tracking? Like uh, Excelsior, was saying, use these spells to hide people who don't want to be seen. Or perhaps make larger those who have a more intimidating personality. Members of the ministry may also find these spells useful when tracking wizards who have broken the law because if there is perhaps a map that shows you where every wizard lives, then you may need to shrink it to carry it with you or enlarge it so that you can actually view it." She wasn't really sure if this could be unconventional uses, so she just sat quietly and continued to think. |
