Lesson 1: Introduction to Arithmancy and the Energy of Numbers You enter the Arithmancy classroom to see neat and exactly-positioned rows of wooden desks and chairs, the latter of which have cushions in a myriad of colors and textures to match your comfort and liking. The walls are filled with thick wooden shelves, on which rest a seemingly endless number of Arithmancy texts and the occasional Ancient Runes and Divination reference. When you look to the front of the room, you see a tall, blonde-haired woman leaning against a desk made of dark angelique wood. In contrast to the darkness of the desk, this woman appears bright and vibrant, some of it due to her bright fuschia robes and some of it due to the vitality of her aura. The woman, your professor, is a new face among the Hogwarts staff. She smiles at you as you enter the classroom and gestures for you to take a seat... |
Sini walked into the room anxious to enjoy this terms first Arithmancy lesson. The subject had always interested her and she was excited about what today's class would be covering. She sat down near the middle of the room noting the new professor standing at the front of the room. Unpacking her supplies, she placed her parchment, quill and ink on the desk and took a seat. |
Liz walked into the classroom and sat down up front. She took out her Arithmacy book,her wand,her quill, and her parchment. |
Claudian moved into the room with a swiftness and grace that did not look possible for a boy his size. "Professor." He gave an acknowledging nod as he passed the professor and took a seat somewhere near the front and off to the side. |
Emily chose a seat towards the back of the classroom. She always seemed to be one of the first students in the classroom - perhaps subconsciously she was just eager to learn. She smiled shyly at Professor Shackleton before digging in her bag for some parchment, her textbook and her quill. She was nervous about this particular subject which she tended to struggle with. |
Zoraida walked into the Arithmacy class with the book she borrowed from the professor as well as her muggle notebook and school supplies. She had observed many using parchment and a quill to do there assignments but decided against them for doing her own notes. After all when she tried to use them it looked more like a pretty picture on a page than something that could actually mean something. Zora waved to the professor and took a seat towards the front of the class. Which was definitely opposite her norm. However she actually felt like she knew something or at least she read something for this class so that gave her some sort of confidence. Taking out her stuff and placing her stick of a wand in the rings of her notebook so it would not roll off the table she waited for class to start. |
Sabrina stepped into the Arithmacy classroom and greeted the professor. "Hello Professor Shackleton!" She said. Haveing already met the Professor before was rather comforting, in what way, she had no idea. Smiling at the professor, she looked about the classroom. there weren't many people around. taking a seat in around the front of the class, she placed all her stuff on the desk and waited eagerly for the class to begin. |
Ryan walked into the classroom and took a seat up the back of the room and took out his parchment, quill and arithmancy book and waited for class to begin |
Excelsior entered the arithmancy classroom excitedly, for he was looking forward to this class very much. He hid his excitement and smiled at the blonde woman, the professor. "Good morning, professor." He nodded at her and the other students and quietly took a seat. |
Kerry walked into the classroom and headed towards the back of the room, when she spotted an old friend. "Sini! Hey How are you? Mind if I sit here?" she asked, as she took the seat next to her. "So how are you?" she asked as she placed her bag at her feet and reached down taking out her quill, ink, parchment and arithmancy text book and placed it on the desk in front of her. |
Isabella walks into the room and sits in the middle of the room. Not too close, not too far away to appear disrespectful. |
Liz looked up and saw the class was filling up she levitated all over her stuff to a desk in the middle of the classroom and sat down. she secretly petted her cat while waiting for class to start. Jackie the cat jumped out of Liz's pocket and walked to the front of the room. She walked up to the professer and walked around her legs gracefully. |
Emma walked into the classroom, a bit flushed from the long walk. As she entered, she smiled and said, "Hello, Professor." Emma took a seat next to a Slytherin who seemed to be a nervous looking first year. "Hi," she greeted, taking out her parchment and several quills of varying size and color. |
Sini smiled seeing Kerry and responded, "Of course you can sit here. I'm doing good, we haven't seen each other in so long. We'll have to study together this term." |
Giselle entered the Arithmancy classroom and took a seat. |
Kerry smiled at Sini. "Definitely! What do you say after this class today we work on the homework together. Something tells me all the numbers are going to have my head spinning by the end of the day." Kerry joked, as she turned back towards the front of the class and waited for it to begin. |
Isabella looked around as the classroom became more and more full. She was starting to get nervous, but, of course, she would never show it on the outside. |
Star entered the Arithmancy classroom, blond hair falling loose down her back. She slipped into a seat near the back of the classroom, head down, waiting for the lesson to begin. |
Professor Shackleton returned the greetings of all the students who had said hello or nodded her way, smiling the whole time. She was clearly very happy to be giving her first lesson. She spoke, "I think we'll wait just a bit longer before we start class to allow a few more students to trickle in. In the meantime, please take out your textbook and your quills. You will not need parchment." Professor Shackleton did not yet explain why they wouldn't be needing parchment this lesson, or any lesson for that matter, but they would all know soon enough. |
Isabella was a little confused when the Professor said they wouldn't need parchment, for she had been very concerned all they would be doing was toiling over rows and rows of numbers. However, doing as she was instructed she took out the textbook and quills while ignoring the stack of parchment in her bag. |
Kerry was a bit puzzled as to why they might need their quills but not their parchment, but either way she took the parchment she had on her desk and reached down placing it back in her bag. "Oh well, that saves me a bit of parchment." she smiled. |
Arian took out her textbook and quill, waiting for the lesson to start. She idly wondered if Will would come along, chewing the end of her feather-quill absent mindedly. |
Rapunzel entered the classroom, just in time to hear the professor mention that the class wouldn't need parchment. 'Huh, that's odd,' she thought, and quickly slid into a seat in the back of the room. |
Sini heard Professor Shackleton say they wouldn't be needing their parchment, which seemed odd, but she did as requested and put her parchment away. Pulling out her text book she placed it on the desk in front of her and waited for class to begin. |
Star frowned, but did as Professor Shackleton asked and took out her textbook and quills. She then slid her bag underneath the desk, placing the stuff she'd just removed in front of her. |
