| | Herbology Lesson One: Ghosty's Tale Seedling trays, filled with a sweet-smelling soil, lined the tables in the classrooms. If you look at them just right, it would seem that something glimmers there, but is gone before you can make out the shape of it.
Just next to each small seedling tray is a pot about the size of a cereal bowl, only taller. This too is filled with a sweet-smelling soil. Something about the fragrance of the classroom is of apples, cherries, and apricots.
In front of is another of these seedling trays, and pot. However, also there is a box containing small bags of a dark-gray substance.
Professor Erikson rounded the room, taking care to check on each seedling tray once more and placing trowels around at each station. Once he was satisfied, he took his place at the front of the classroom, waiting for the students to arrive. |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Seth Beauvoir Second | Seth raised his hand: "Will we be studying these plants now?" he asked reluctantly, hoping his question wasn't interfering with the professor's plans for the lesson.

Kerry raised her hand sheepishly, "Professor, forgive me... I guess I'm just in awe of these plants. But wherever did you come across these? I imagine they are very rare indeed. How did you ever learn about them I've never even heard of them." Kerry asked, as other questions swam in her head.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Armand Beta-Erikson Slytherin First Year Hogwarts RPG Name: Damien Beta-Erikson Slytherin First Year | Slytherin by heart He nodded softly to Saylie. "These plants are a sort of mourning in nature. Since they've spread, they tend to appear in areas where fire often is a destructive force. However, until such a time, they remain in their ghost-like state. They simply can't grow any more until there is a fire. Which of course can be replicated without harm to other plants. These are not the only plants, either. There is a sort of pine that will only release its seeds in the heat of a flame."
Turning to Willow, he thought momentarily on it. "Truthfully, the only key to that may lie in the plants, as we don't know what gives them their ghost-like appearance in the early stages, and their seeds are unlike that which we have ever seen. Some things are magically spontaneous, however. One even speculated that she was the result of a lonely young witch who was dying, and her powerful magic created Ghosty as a companion until her death."
To Seth, he answered, "We will, once all questions are complete, of course."
To Kerry's question, he couldn't help but smirk. "Sometimes, you just follow instinct, and instinct leads to legend, and legend leads to something incredible. However, I did have some help through the Department of Mysteries." "You can, of course, try to touch them how. However they'll pass right through your hand. It's one of those things that makes transplanting interesting. You must handle the soil, rather than the plant."

Hogwarts RPG Name: Seth Beauvoir Second | "They really are strange. They must have a very limited geographical distribution. Where do they grow?" Seth's head was slowly filling up with questions. He hoped the professor would answer quickly.

At the mention of the seeds going through your hands, he could not resist trying to pick one up. He watched with amusement as it dripped through his index finger and back to the spot from which he had lifted it. |

Saylie was filled with unexpected sadness as she looked at the plants. She ran her hand through the wispy plant, wondering how something could be a ghost before devastation turned it real. She looked up solemnly and waited for the professor to continue.

| Wowza! Willow was in awe by this, she would have never thought that a plant like this could exist, besides she had to admitted that herbology was way far more interesting than she'd imagine, in fact she thought it was going to be boring. She began writing again everything professor Erikson have just said, but before she could finish she raise her hand and asked again, "Is this plant originally british?, or in any case, can it be found on Britain sir?" |

Arden moved forward to touch one of the strange and interesting plants. She held her fingers cautiously in the air and moved her hand until it came in contact with the ghost-like plant. Her fingers went right through it and it looked like it was dripping off of her hand. Arden gasped and drew her hand back. She had never seen anything like this seedling before. She waited for the Professor to give them more information on the plant so that she could know more about it.

Kerry sat smiling, just shaking her head, "the department of mysteries? Man this professor sure has some interesting friends," she chuckled to herself, as she jotted down some quick notes, anxious to begin working with this fascinating plant.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Armand Beta-Erikson Slytherin First Year Hogwarts RPG Name: Damien Beta-Erikson Slytherin First Year | Slytherin by heart "Good question!" He smiled to Seth. "Ghosty's Tale is primarily found northeast of Mt Blanc, at the meeting point of France, Italy, and Switzerland."
"Some have thought about foxfire as a method, however that has since been disproven. The jury is still out on if rather than bioluminescence, there could be a form of magiluminescence, in which there is an incorporeal form that serves the same purpose. However, measuring the properties of the incorporeal is a daunting task, and tends to slow research."
He pulled a very small box out of his pocket. "These plants were grown from seed, actually. And are often referred to as Gardina's Tears, for good reason." He opened the box to reveal something very small and glowing brightly, actually looking like there was a star in the box. He picked it up and held it out for everyone to see. "Interesting, really. To hold in in your hand, it feels like a little capsule filled with water. When they manage to take away the shine, with a heavy amount of effort, it looks like no more than a drop of dew." He handed it over for the students to pass around.
"The plant has been found in Britain, though mostly in its ghost form, however it's rather rare. They do think it's where muggles get the ideas of fairies and pixies from, having gotten a brief glimpse of one of these plants."
He looked about, seeing if there were any more questions or if they were currently satisfied.

Krissy was in awe of the tiny little seed. It was so shiny and perfect. the plants made her sad though, the idea of tragedy struck a chord with her.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Dake Juke Sixth Year | Taika Ai's notes were full now, and rather messy. Doodles of Ghosty, the plants, Peitre and the Cherry tree covered the parchment, words surrounding the images. She set her quill down, to look at Gardinia's Tear. It was so pretty. Taika Ai's large sea-blue eyes stared in awe, unblinking for so long. She almost forgot to pass the seed along. Quickly, she handed it off to the next person, going back to her notes. She looked up at the Professor, hardly able to believe such a tale, but still deeply moved by it. "That's amazing," she breathed, speaking more to herself than to anyone inparticular. Quote:

"Hmm... well, most legends have some basis in reality and since we are studying the plants, we should know it's history and the stories of how it came to be, shouldn't we?" she answered. "Usually you can learn a lot from legends since they are there to explain something in real life that is unbelievable and hard to explain. So... um... is there something in the story that will help us with studying these plants?"

"Sho'Nuff! How you been, brothuh?" Claudian actually looks rather relieved to see the boy. A familiar face in a time of madness, perhaps.
He took the little 'star' and held it out to inspect it, wishing he'd brought his eye glasses and then passed it on to the next student. Quote:

"Was it perhaps to give us an idea of how important plants and trees are to the culture, Professor?" He ventured a guess. |
