| | Gobstones Club: Gryffindor vs. Hufflepuff Gobstones Club Rules Hello and welcome to the Gobstones Club! Gobstones is a magical game similar to marbles & petanque played by Muggles, except that the balls spit up (gob) a foul smelling liquid in the face of the opposing player when they loose a point! The version of Gobstones we will be playing this term is Snake Pit, in which you must roll your Gobstone closer to the pit, without falling in, than your opponent. House Teams: Each student will serve as a representative of their House and have the opportunity to participate in the Gobstones Tournament. There will be no set number of members on the team, and thus, NO TRYOUTS. Everyone gets to play if they wish to do so (even Mods and Quidditch team members) by choosing to answer for their House whenever a question is asked! Also, there are no ‘positions,’ so any person can answer any question at any time. Tournament: The tournament consists of three matches, two preliminary and one final Championship match: Match1: Gryffindor vs. Hufflepuff (Saturday, Nov. 10th – Friday, Nov. 23rd) Match 2: Ravenclaw vs. Slytherin (Saturday, Nov. 10th – Friday, Nov. 23rd) Match 3: Winners of Matches 1 & 2 (Monday, Dec. 10th - Monday, Dec. 17th) The matches will be open in their own threads and will last for approximately 1-2 weeks, which is plenty of time to allow for people in different time zones and with differing schedules to be involved. The first two matches will run simultaneously in different threads. The third will be played a short time after those matches conclude and last for a few days. Format & Scoring: These matches will be played using a question-answer format, similar to that used for Quidditch matches in the School RPG. Questions will be categorized by academic subjects that include: Ancient Runes, Arithmancy, Astronomy, Care of Magical Creatures, Current Events (pertains to Hogwarts, A History for the School RPG), Charms, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Divination, Flying and Quidditch, History of Magic (includes Harry's time at Hogwarts and anything prior), Muggle Studies, Potions, and Transfiguration. Each match is divided into eight rounds. Each round consists of three questions of varying challenge levels – Easy, Moderate, and Difficult, and varying subjects, with some questions combining subjects. Each question will be asked to BOTH Houses simultaneously in a head-to-head situation. Each house gets ONE CHANCE ONLY to answer the question, so only one player (presumably, whoever gets there first and thinks they know the answer) should answer from each House. (Please do not post the same answer multiple times from different players of the same house.) The first House to answer correctly will get their ball closer to the Snake pit than their opponent and earn one point for that round. If a house answers and the opposing house believes the answer to be incorrect, that opposing house has the opportunity to answer the question correctly (provided that they have not already given another answer.) If the first House is incorrect and the second House is correct, the ball belonging to the first house will enter the pit and be out of play. The second house's ball will be considered closest to the pit, thus earning them one point for that question. If both houses get the question wrong on their first attempt, both stones will roll into the pit, out of play, and there will be no score for that question. The House with the most points (best out of three) for each round will win that round. Each subsequent round will be played the same way until 8 rounds have been completed. The house with the most won rounds will have rolled their gobstone closest to the pit and won the match. In the event of a tie, either within a round or between rounds, there will be a tie-breaker question or round of questions, respectively. Example: Here is what a question from a round may look like: Quote: Gryffindor vs. Hufflepuff Subject: Ancient Runes Round 1, Question 1 Difficulty: Easy Question: Which rune is known as the Rune of Chance, Mystery, and Science? Now say, Gryffindor answered first with the following: Since this answer is correct, our reply (as Club advisors) might look like this: Quote: The Gryffindor player rolls the stone at just the right speed and angle, putting their gobstone as close to the pit as you can get! Hufflepuff's stone overshoots and falls into the snake pit! Gryffindor's stone spits up that foul-smelling nastiness into the face of the Hufflepuff player! Round 1 Score Gryffindor: 1 point Hufflepuff: 0 points Match Score Gryffindor: 0 rounds Hufflepuff: 0 rounds Next question… Responsibilities: All members on each team are expected to act with decorum both in the school RP and on the SS site. Any abuse or perceived unsportsmanlike conduct behavior by any member of a House (player or not) can result in House Point deduction, detention, banning from the Gobstones club, loss of the match, and/or expulsion from the site. Infractions and Penalties: Editing your post is not allowed. If you are caught editing your answer to a question during a match, the opposing team will automatically be awarded the point for that question, regardless of their answer. |

As I have mentioned before, no ambushing the other House! Therefore, Hufflepuff automatically wins this turn!" OOC: The correct answer was indeed Ronald Weasley. Quote: Round 3 Score

The difference between an Animagus and a werewolf is that an Animagus elects to turn into an animal but a werewolf has no choice. After the person has transformed into a werewolf he no longer remembers who he is; he would kill his best friend if he got anywhere near him. A werewolf only responds to the call of his own kind. The only way that a werewolf can retain his sanity, intelligence and memory while transformed is through the use of the Wolfsbane Potion.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Sloane W. Excellent roll! Can Hufflepuff win this turn? It doesn't appear so! Gryffindor wins the point, but Hufflepuff takes the round! Hogwarts RPG Name: Sloane W. Fordyce First Year | Cheesy Mac Gryffindor releases their Gobstone into the circle first... it looks like a decent roll... and it stops moving about two and half inches from the Snake Pit. The Hufflepuff team rolls their Gobstone and appears to be aiming directly for the Gryffindor stone. Looks like Hufflepuff are trying to knock the Gryffindor gobstone into the Snake Pit! Will it work??? Alas, NO! Hufflepuff misses the Gryffindor stone and lands four inches from the pit! Gryffindor wins the point! Quote: Round 4 Score

Hogwarts RPG Name: Sloane W. Fordyce First Year | Cheesy Mac Gryffindor takes their turn by releasing their Gobstone at an interesting angle... hard to tell where they are aiming for... oh but look at that! It curved back around and landed right on the ledge of the Snake pit! That was a close one! If Hufflepuff comes through and taps that Gobstone, Hufflepuff could take it! But Hufflepuff doesn't even come close to the Gryffindor gobstone. Gryffindor wins the point as their Gobstone spits up that putrid substance at the Hufflepuff team! Quote: Round 4 Score

Hogwarts RPG Name: Sloane W. Fordyce First Year | Cheesy Mac Hufflepuff opts to take their turn before Gryffindor. Their player releases the Gobstone with ease and observes as it rolls just inches to the right of and slightly just passed the Snake Pit. Alectryomancy is a form of divination in which the diviner observes a bird, several birds, pecking at grain (such as wheat) that the diviner has scattered on the ground. The observer may place grain in the shape of letters and thus discern a divinatory revelation by noting which letters the birds peck at, or the diviner may just interpret the pattern left by the birds' pecking in randomly scattered grain.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Sloane W. Fordyce First Year | Cheesy Mac Gryffindor rolls their Gobstone... it's lurking awfully close to the Snake pit... but it passes it slightly and comes to a rest just three inches away. Hufflepuff takes their turn... it's heading for the same region... this could knock the Gryffindors out of the circle if it hits in the center... oh! It just clips the side of the Gryffindor stone, sending it an inch to the left, while the Hufflepuff stone continues past and lands five inches from the pit. Gryffindor receives the point! Hogwarts RPG Name: Sloane W. Fordyce First Year | Cheesy Mac Hufflepuff rolls their Gobstone first... this one looks like it is heading dangerously close to the Snake pit... it looks like it is going to go in.... oh! it's teetering on the edge of the pit but stays on the edge! Gryffindor takes their turn... the Gobstone is heading for the exact same spot... looks like they intend to knock Hufflepuff into the pit... and they have! But wait, Gryffindor's gobstone fell into the pit too! Must have been rolled just a bit too hard! No points to either House! OOC: The fault with the Hufflepuff answer was that the moon is "Io" not "Lo." The same mistake was made in the Gryffindor answer, as well as the inclusion of a fourth moon when only three were requested. Quote: Round 5 Score

Hogwarts RPG Name: Sloane W. Fordyce First Year | Cheesy Mac Gryffindor tosses their Gobstone into the circle and watches it settle in a comfortable location nearby the pit. Hufflepuff rolls next and their Gobstone lands just behind the Gryffindor stone. Looks like the point is going to go to Gryff - but wait! A second Gryffindor rolled a stone into the circle and disqualifies the point! The point automatically goes to Hufflepuff! And this round is tied! Look's like we go to a tie-breaker!! (OOC: As I mentioned before, any post that goes up 2 minutes or later from their own teammate's post is an automatic penalty. Hufflepuff's posts were within one minute of each other and therefore are allowed, though incorrect. The Money Converter on hp-lexicon is slightly off and if you had calculated the value out from the designated monetary amounts, you would find that 189.38 pounds is correct.) Quote: Round 5 Score
