Professor Blaylock paced in the centre of the circular room. Her hands were clasped together in front of her and she looked like she was a million miles away. But classes and schedules did not stop for personal issues. No matter how much she wanted to run down to the headmistress' office at that moment...the timetable detained her in this insufferable tower.

She looked up at the clock and frowned. The lesson would begin in a few minutes, and would end in an hour. Hopefully no chaos ensued today.

OOC: Come in, sit yourselves down and try to keep the chatter to a minimum.

Blaylock looked down at the Gryffindor beside her and frowned, "Alright, you may do so. But be careful, Celestina Warbuck."

All she needed now was for Bucky to slip on one of the crystal balls and fall through the trap door. That would go over well with the headmistress. Aggie Swanse would just LOVE to tell that story down at the Ministry.

Ari looked up from her notes. Finally, something she knew a lot about. Concentrating and going into a dream - like state was her thing after alll. S very small smile crept to her lips and she sat up straighter, her full attention on Blaylock now. She wondered if she should ask if it was the same feeling she always got when she blocked the emotions from around her, but decided against it as there were too many people around to over hear.

She decided in the end to go for it, "Um, Professor? Is this the same kind of feeling one would get if they're trying to block something out?" She asked, not elaborating.

Xana rose her hand and spoke softly. "Excuse me, professor... I'm rubbish at divination, I know... But I'm confused, you say to empty our minds and to focus on the crystal... I was wondering, for scrying, should we be using concentration meditation, actually focusing on the actual scrying tool in our minds as well as physically... or transcedental meditation-- focusing on nothing and just using the crystal as a focal object, but not allowing it to become a source of concentration?"

In her excitement, Bucky ignored the use of her full name. Blaylock was definitely a Mum. Scrambling away from her beanbag she nearly sprinted to the large chest where Blaylock kept the crystal balls. Wrenching it open she nearly dived into the contents. She pulled out two crystal balls and juggled those in one arm. Then with her free hand she pulled out another and piled it on top of the other two.

Bucky leaned down and dropped one on Ariana's lap. "There ya go!"

She then moved on to Jasmine and accidentally dropped it on her foot. "Oops! Sorry! No worries. It's not so bad. It's only quartz."

She then walked up to the Hufflepuff she didn't know. Mister I'm So Bored. Mister Prissy Pants. "Hey, you," she muttered shoving the crystal ball in his face. "Want this?"

Bucky twisted in her position to raise her brows curiously at the girl speaking quickly. Snorting loudly Celestina nodded. "I think what Blaylock meant by emptying your mind was to rid it of all those words you're spouting dear. In other words...you're thinking too much."

Diabolica watched the girl with the slightest bit of disdain. She wasn't one to make assumptions, however, she never liked people who made fun of her friends. Silently she waited for the girl to give her a crystal ball--she wanted to get to work.

Amelia was rubbish at clearing her mind. She had way too much going on at this point in her life to want to think about her breathing and this stupid scrying tool. She quickly copied down the last thing about this method, before raising her hand, "Professor Blaylock, do we have to participate in this scrying thing?"

Angelika looked at Bucky. "I didn't get one," she said after a slight hesitation. She had been unsure if Bucky was finished, but she guessed that she was and decided to speak up for herself.

Jasmine let out a loud squeak as the cystal ball Bucky gave her landed soundly on her foot. Biting her lip in pain, she glared at her fellow Gryffindor for all of 5 seconds before the humor of it all took over. "Well Quartz, is still quite heavey when compared to my toe you know. But, thank you ever so much."Giggling, she picked up the wayward ball and eyed it curiously.

Ari felt something drop into her lap and alost laughed as she saw Bucky drop a crystal ball. "Thanks Bucky." she said grinning as she picked it up looking at the professor for the next part. She was feeling a bit better since she had placed the good warm memories into her mind, and was ready to see if anything was to happen.

Blaylock blinked at the Slytherin's long-winded inquiry, and her lips lifted in an amused smile when the student finally wrapped it up. "Well, you seem to be veering off in the exact direction I was just informing Ariana of."

"But if you want a name for it, I'd go with transcendental." She almost snorted again. It sounded like one of those muggle notions.

"I said to be careful, Bucky." She said, sending a glance heavenward. As if she expected some form of divine intervention.

"Now that you all have your crystal balls..." she sent Bucky a pointed look, "I suggest you sit quietly and attempt to go into this trance-like state...remember to breathe deep and regularly, and count back from ten, or a hundred if you have a lot of thoughts." She smiled that amused, half-smile once more, "Until you are in a trance. If you do achieve this feeling, concentrate on your crystal ball and just let your mind wander as if you are day-dreaming."

Cassandra had been in her own thoughts. A veil of sadness on her face. She hadn't answered any question... which was very unlike her. She sighed and looked up at the professor...

Her head spun around to Xana... then back to the professor... is that why Erikson was so attentive to Xana? She looked like Blaylock?

Blaylock looked over at the student, her eyebrow raised slightly and her green eyes dark. "Of course you don't have to." she turned back to the rest of the class, "If anyone would like to be free from participating in this scrying thing, all you need to do is give me 50 of your house points and we'll call it a day."

She waited for anyone to take her up on her offer.

"Don't mention it," she quipped as she took her seat by Blaylock once more, having kept the gigantic crystal ball to herself. It was three times larger than her head and Bucky had to roll it from the corner where she found it back to her seat. With some struggled she managed to roll it up on her lap and she grunted holding it in place.

"Okie day!" She responded to Blaylock and began breathing. Loudly.

EEEEEH. HOOOOO. EEEEEEH. HOOO. One would think the girl had asthma.

Diabolica breathed deeply in and out, clearing her mind. She gazed past the crystal for a time, and went into that trance--though she had to keep waking hersself--she hadn't got much sleep yesterday night.

Claudian cupped the round sphere of quartz and held it up for a second to get a good look at what reflections were already in the room, lest they confuse his vision later. He placed the little ball down onto the bronze perch and began to relax. A hard thing to do for him. After a moment, though he was calm. He mentally counted backward from 9, and felt his mind wander off into a day-dream-like state.

It was remarkably easy for him. Much more so than he thought it'd be. Perhaps for the lack of good sleep.

Jasmine stared a bit skeptically at her crystal ball and sighed. Well, here goes. Slowly she started counting backwards from ten,"Ten,nine,eight,seven,six,five,four, three,two,and one."

Jasmine blinked a few times, then looked from her crystal ball to the Professor. "Ok. Nothing is happening here."

Ari nodded, "Okay, I think I get what you're saying Professor." She replied, in response to her anwer. She was just getting more comfortable so she could easily concentrate when Amelia asked a question and got a responce. Her eyebrows shot up, Amelia not wanting to participate? That was not like her. She frowned, turning to her and raised an eyebrow, before turning back to the professor and shaking her head, cloosing her eyes to being the process.

Taking a deep, cleansing breath, she tried to concentrate on removing everything from her mind, emotions, feelings, thoughts, everything. It seemed to be working, to a point. A small nagging feeling in her brain told her to stop, to give up. She shook the thought away, a slight hesitant frown appearing on her face as she kept breathing, riding her mind of things.

"Thank you," Angelika said, taking the heavy crystal ball. It must weigh a ton! She stared at the crystal, breathing very slowly in and out, the way she did when she was trying to fall asleep. Now, however, she was not thinking about sleep. She was thinking about getting those thoughts out of her mind...

Angelika remembered that she was supposed to count backward from ten, and began to count on every other breath. ten...in, out...nine...in, out...eight...in, out...Angelika lost count but continued to breath slowly and stare at the crystal ball. Were there clouds in there? Angelika saw fluffy white spots moving around in the crystal ball, but she did not know what that meant. She just kept breathing and staring...

Smarting from the contempt in the teacher's tone, Xana folded her legs up into the lotus position and stared into her crystal. Meditation, that was the easy part... But she had absolutely no aptitude for divination, and she knew it.

She cleared her mind and entered a trance.

Blaylock watched the students attempt this portion of the lesson with a detached interest. Every once in a while, a student would come along and show real potential at the subject...she hadn't seen any such student yet this year.

But what stopped her from truly enjoying today's lesson was the sense of impending doom. Not through any third eye foreshadowing (yeah...right) or reading of omens...it was just the whole meeting with Lainey and the other professors. And the confirmation that one of them was indeed getting the sack this term. It all didn't add to her ability to handle this lesson with more enthusiasm.

OOC: Oh Merlin's pants...it's already 5.10am and I have an early tee-time in the morning. I completely lost track of time, and now I'm afraid I need to go to sleep. Go ahead and RP...try not to kill one another, set the classroom/professor/yourselves on fire or overly chat. Just go on as if Professor Blaylock is standing right there. I'll continue the lesson when I get back.
