Laylee placed her chin in her hand as she wrote down answers in her notebook, thinking up answers in between her own life thoughts.
Her hair was pulled up in a pony tail, random curls hanging around her face. Laylee eyes seemed duller, matching her mood. There had to be something to get her out of this.... slump...

"A spirit is something that doesn't have a defined physical form and is either sort of transparent or can shift to take the form of other things, I believe. Ghosts, ghouls, and boggarts are some that fall into this category," AJ shot her hand into the air as she spoke.

"I believe it is the soul of something that was once alive that still inhabits the Earth," Diabolica said darkly. "Really a supernatural, incorporeal being, especially one inhabiting a place, object, etc., or having a particular character."

Willow rose her hand once again and said, "Aren't spirits ghosts? or related to them somehow?" she asked tentatively to Professor Clark.

Kerry heard Diabolica's answer and suddenly a thought popped in her head, "Professor, is it true that the ghosts were actually classified as beasts but they found it insulting as they were no longer alive and felt they deserved their own special treatment...or ummm classification?"

Diabolica listened to Kerry's question and thought to herself, Good question...

"I would believe a spirit would be something that isn't really alive in physical form, something like ghosts, ghouls, dementors, perhaps even vampires, as they're not really alive in physical form," Excelsior said.

Samson raised his hand only barely. "A spirit is.. well, a malevolent supernatural being, mostly described as evil," he said with a shrug, "Christian terms descirbe it as a fallen angel, previously a god. Some even say there were seven evil spirits that took on different forms and have different effects on people," he added, nodding slightly.

"They are not all evil Carswell!" Cassandra snapped at the Ravenclaw.

"Some can be," Diabolica pointed out to Cassandra. "Those who are deceased and had had unfortunate, cruel, and unhappy lives may not change manner when they are dead."

"They are not necessarally evil..not all of them at least". she said kindly to her fellow Ravenclaw

AJ looked over to Cassandra, "He said 'most' not 'all,' Cassandra, he never said all of them were evil... But some, or even most, ARE." she said, "No need to get snappy," she said. She rolled her eyes, 'not like your mom was a spirit,' she thought.

"Almost, it includes more creatures than ghosts. Ghosts are under auspices in Spirit Division"



"Correct! Two points!. A malevolent being that is bodiless but can become visible. Mark me, i said a bodiless 'being'".


"Poltergeists are spirits alright, they are an indestructible spirit that mainly causes chaos."


"Indeed, 2 points for your answer. Though boggarts are questionable if you ask me!"



Fabian chuckled at Kerry's question, smart of her to know that bit of information. "Ghosts were classified as beings, but they argued their way out of it since, well, their dead. As in have been alive or commonly known as 'has beens' and thats how Spirit Division started"



"A point for you and Ryan for giving me the latin extract of the word!"



"Your trailing out of topic Samson, your defining Spirit based on religion and its irrelevant to the definition we're looking for" he exclaimed raising a brow at the Ravenclaw.


"Alright" Fabian clapped his hand to get the class's attention again, "lets move onto our final division. Beast division, what sort of creatures would you say be categorized in this division?"

"The assigned question was to define the word Spirit, Alimentazione, and Spirit by definitions are not evil..." Unlike yourself... she thought but did not say.

"Silverstone, seriously, he said that a spirit by definition is a malevolent supernatural being" Why were Slytherins against her!! Cassandra was getting angry.

Claudians big hand went up, "Wouldn't a beast be something which responds to it's instincts more than it's reason, Professor Clark? Like a hydra, or, as was mentioned earlier, a manticore?"

"I understood the question, but some spirits can be evil or willed to be evil." Diabolica muttered back to Cassandra and turned back to the professor.

"Professor Clark, an Occamy, a Sphinx and even a Dragon are beasts. It in an animal hard to control... although not necessarily impossible." Cassandra said hearing the professor at least siding with her.

"hippogriffs, thestrals, acromantulas and some others..Beasts follow their instincts. They don't follow the wizarding laws and can be very difficult to control and are usually highly dangerous" she said as she rose her hand quickly.

The Greek prince stood near the back of the congregation, his Hufflepuff scarf wrapped around his neck tightly, and his arms were folded over his chest.

"How do we care for a spirit? I thought we would be dealing with more tangible beasts." With that thick accent, he was speaking more to himself than anyone else. One would be right to assume he was displeased with what he thought would be his favorite subject.

"Break it off ... now!" Fabian spoke firmly at both Slytherins. "Whether its evil or not, is not the topic were discussing in class. Unless you have something to say about beasts?"

Kerry raised her hands, "creatures that are under the beast division don't have the intelligence to think on their own like a creature such as the merpeople or centaurs or leprechauns do... those are more human like creatures. Beasts are more animal like creatures or actually many of them are animals. After all..that's what the definition of beast is... An animal other than a human. Beasts can't necessarily control themselves so we give them ratings so that we know how dangerous they are and just what degree of control we can have over them if that makes sense. With this definition there are tons of creatures that fall under it from acromentulas to unicorns." Kerry said as she realized she was beginning to babble.

Diabolica's hand shot up. "A griffin may be considered a beast, or even a hippogriff, though these creatures are tamer than others."

"Sorry, professor..." Diabolica forced a smile while still thinking of other beasts....
