"switching spells are spells which are used to turn one thing into something else and vice versa." Ali said, confident in her answer. |
Star sat, still looking down at her desk, as people around her put their hands up to answer the question. She sort of knew the answer, she remembered Mac talking about it briefly, but she didn't dare try to answer in case she was wrong. She listened to everyone else instead. |
Hazel raised her hand. Switching spels are a class of spells which change items from one thing into another. It is the major branch of Transfiguration." she answered |
Rosalie looked at the Gryffindor who answered the question for a moment, then back at Professor Pride. He did have it mostly correct....she assumed. But she had a question about it. His answer was so vague. |
Davina wrote down her answers on her parchment. They seemed to have already given the answer so she put down her hand. No point in repeating what everyone else had already said. |
Lauren sat at her desk, dumbfounded by the amount of her fellow classmates who knew the answer to Professor Pride's question. She felt slightly embarassed that her hand did not fly up in unison with the rest of the class. She didn't always know the answer, of course, but when this many of her peers understood something, she generally followed suit. She supposed she could chalk it up to today being an all-around bad day for her and that made her feel slightly less behind, but she could still feel her cheeks burn slightly when the correct answer was given and her professor looked pleased at its accuracy. But class had to go on. Lauren shuffled in her seat in order to sit up straighter, smoothed out the parchment in front of her with the palm of her hand, and clamped tighter around her quill. She would get the next one. {OOC: Is this the first class to have started? Just curious to see if another is taking place or has taken place so far this term.} |
Hesitantly, Rosalie put her hand down, before speaking. "Wouldn't this spell not necessarily have to be used to switch things between two objects. Isn't it also used to...I don't know....exchange someone's feet for their hands? In that case it would be one subject, not two. "And are switching spells not used to change objects, but only their location?" She asked, unsure how to word her question. |
Evangeline dropped her hand. There was no need on repeating the answer when so many students had given the right one. She grabbed her quill and wrote down the answer just in case. She looked up at the girl who had made the questions. Those are pretty good ones - she thought looking at Professor Pride wating for the answers. |
Kennedy raised her hand and added, "In addition to what the others have said about it swapping one object for another, there is also the classification of cross-species switching, which allows one type of creature to be transfigured into another." |
Ben didn't bother to raise her hand, even though he knew the answer. Other people knew the answer, too, and he was fine with letting them answer. He took a note on the definition of a switching spell, though, so he wouldn't forget. |
When wrinkled up her nose. Some of the answers were beginning to confuse her. She slouched down in her chair and crossed one ankle over the other, preparing to take notes on what Professor Pride agreed with. She blew some rainbow hair out of her eyes looked around while she waited for Professor Pride to say something. Alie was a couple seats over. It was the first time she'd seen her since fourth year. And Badger was across the room. It'd been a reeeeeeeally long time since she'd talked to her. Whende returned her attention to her notebook and started to drum her fingers on the desk. |

OOC: Off to see OotP, I will continue class tomorrow. |
Katie smiled and raised her hand, " When you are outside and it starts to rain and you don't have an umbrella. You could switch your hat into an umbrella." She laughed just at the thought of the situation. |

All right--Huffie got 3 points! Jenna thought excitedly. She wrote the answer down on her parchment. Then the teacher asked another question...but Jenna had no idea what the answer to this one was. ooc: Have fun, ya lucky duck :P |
Kennedy raised her hand and answered, "A switching spell might come in handy when one is facing a dangerous creature, person, or object. For example, if one is facing a creature with sharp teeth or fangs, you could switch them for a gummy candy and thereby lesson the threat." |

"Switching spells would also be useful to those who are more on the ... playful side. Like to play pranks, confuse people, turn something serious into something unexpected and inappropriate," she said, her voice suprisingly strong for the butterflies in her belly. "Just a different idea," she added with a small smile and a shrug. |
"Switching spells come in useful when my brother Garreth takes it upon himslef shove me off my broom. I simply switch a mud puddle for his bed. Its much more comfy to land on." Rebecca said from the front row. Transfiguration was one of her best classes. " Of corse if you're about to face a six headed dragon with claws like daggers, it might be a bit wise to switch him to something like a bunny." She said with a warm smile. " All so I find it usefull when I'm trying to ditch my family at an outing. Although I dont need a switching spell for that." She said with a wink. And to demonstrate she closed her eyes and thought of hot pink hair and tanned skin. " Wha-la! Compleatly diffrent person!" Lord, I love being a metamorphmagus She thought to herself happily |
Amanda, who was sitting in the back of the class, raised her hand and said, "A Switching Spell may come in handy pretty much at any time. Whether you're in the rain and you need an umbrella, you could switch your hat or something like that into it," Amanda paused and then continued. "To change something into another to fool someone. Umm ... if your in danger, you could switch the thing that could harm you into something harmless. Like ... a book or a flower. You can also do Cross-Species Switches. Like switching a lion into a rabbit. But, apparently it's easier to do the spell when the creatures have similar names. For example, turning a guinea fowl into a guinea pig. Or a similar appearance. Like turning a hedgehog into a pincushion. Or both. Such as turning a beetle into a button." |
Katie Kay thought she new the answers to both of those questions then when they were answered she had no clue. She wrote the answer on the parchment infront of her and listened closely. Katie liked the idea of switching spell she raised her hand and said "Can they be used for switing a hat into a seat or something like that?" Katie Kay was very fasinated with this. |

Audrey looked up from her notes, and glanced over at the person next to her to see what they were talking about. She had been daydreaming again...it seemed like she had a lot of trouble focusing lately. Noticing that they were talking about switching spells, she remembered a time back home when her older brother had switched the carrots that her father was eating with a big, fat worm. Smiling but with a slightly disgusted look on her face, she laughed to herself and wrote down the other students' answers to the question. |
Jen quickly ran into the class and sat at the nearest seat. She took out her books and stared up at Professor Pride. She then let her eyes wander around at the other students in the class and she noticed some people that she knew. |
Daphne idly tapped her wand against the back of her hand. She figured she should pick up a book and try her best to answer. Then again, she wasn't a big fan of reading and finding answers. While she mindlessly flipped through the book, she caught the word "Switching". She read on and figured an answer to the question! Full of pride and confidence, she raised her hand. "You could use a switching spell if one of your friends has a purse you want, then you could just magically switch the two. Though it would be easier to just steal your friends purse..." She trailed off as she realized her answer made no sense. |
