Transfiguration-Lesson One As you walk through the door, you see an empty classroom. Most unusual seeing as Professor Pride was not in her usual spot, sitting on her desk Indian style. Come in and take a seat, I'm sure Professor Pride will be along shortly. |
Pandora scurries in and takes a seat in the front of the classroom. She looks around at the room and it begins to hit her exactly how much she missed this class-and Hogwarts for that matter. |
Josey walked into the Transfiguration classroom and sat down slightly to the left of the center of the classroom. She looked around and saw that she was the first Ravenclaw there. |
Ryan walked into the classroom and sat down near the front he was a bit scared about his first lesson |
Cora skipped into the classroom, her heavy bag slung over her shoulder. She placed a package on Professor Pride's desk. It was a home-baked cake. She grinned and then sat down at her usual seat at the front. She got out her things and waited for the lesson to begin. |
Hazel walks into the classroom, quite surprised to see no sign of Danni. She couldn't help but wonder where she could be. Shrugging lightly to herself, she walks over to a seat at the front and sits down. She removes her quill and notebook from her bag before placing it underneath her desk. Looking around her, she couldn't help but wonder how she would like her first lesson being taught by her sister. |
Jocasta walks into the class room and looks around. She is exicted about her first lesson of the year. She finds a seat more towards the back of the room and starts to uppack her books and quills. Her curls around her face bounced up and down as she moved her head and her striagh bangs moved with the motion of the swing of the neck. After having everything out she sat back in her chair and waited patiently for class to start. |
Savannah entered the class room and was rather surprised when she didn't see Professor Pride at her desk like usual. Shrugging this off, The young hufflepuff continued to a middle row desk and took a seat before placing her messanger bag beside her feet. |
Ben walked into the Transfiguration classroom. He hoped he wouldn't blow anything up in his first class. With a start, he realized Josey, his older sister, was present ducking his head, he sat down next to a fellow Slytherin, another first year. Quote:

Star entered the classroom, quickly clipping her hair up as she headed towards the middle row of seats. She didn't like being near the front nor the back in any lesson. Slipping into one of the seats, she reached into her bag to take out her books and quills, ready for the lesson to start. |
Aden entered the classroom, exhausted after climbing several flights of stairs. He looked around, not seeing anyone he recognized. Quietly, he sat behind what looked like two other first-year Slytherins. "Er- hey," he said to the boy who had just introduced himself as Ben to the other boy. |
Ben turned around and grinned at the boy who had said hi. "Hi. Uh-what's your name?" He was starting to get excited; now he knew what his sister meant when she said meeting people before class was fun. |
Mallory walked into the classroom and sat herself in the third row. She waited for the other students to arrive and for the class to begin. She took out some parchment, a quill, and a bottle of ink to get prepared for the lesson. |
Alexis walked into Transfiguration Class and looked around. "Its good to be back." She muttered. She looked around again and decited to sit beside one of her best friends. She walked to the middle row and took a seat beside Savannah. "Hi." She mouthed and turned her attention to the board. She took a quill , ink and a piece of parchment from her bag to get ready to take notes. |
Danni Pride walked slowly through her classroom door. Taking a seat behind her desk, most unlike her, she breathed deeply for a moments before giving her class a weak smile. "We'll wait for the others a bit longer before we start." she said in a strained voice. |
Ryan walks slowly in the class noting that this was the transfiguration. Been this first lesson here, he was curious on how this going to go but not very worried. Noticing that some student were already here, he took the first sit in the third row. With a nice look, he try to see if a professor was here, but it seems she was going to be there a little later, since no sign of her. Opening his bags and putting his quill, inks and some parchment in front of him, he decided to wait to see what was going to happens. |
Savannah smiled and mouthed a hello back to Alexis, before looking around the room. Then pulled her quill, ink and parchment out of her bag, along with her wand. Since she wasn't really sure what she'd need out. |

Hazel walked into the class room. She silently took a seat and pulled out her ink, quill and parchment out of her bag and waited for the class to begin. |

Hannah walked in and spotted the Gryffindor Quidditch Capitan, Ryan and a few other Gryffindors she went over and sat near them. |

Star looked at the teacher as she entered the room and quickly slipped her bag to the floor. The teacher seemed to be upset or worried about something, but, as Star didn't want to pry into anything, she just looked down at the desk, ready to take notes when the teacher started. |
Ali entered the room, anxious for the class to start. She smiled at the professor and then took a seat. |
Brendon walked into the classroom and took a sit in the back. He hated class and really hoped he was not called for anything. He looked around to see if he knew anyone who was in there. |

Evangeline walked into the classroom smiling. She was happy that classes had already started. She took a seat near Hazel smiling politely at her friend and pulled her quill, parchment and ink out of her bag ready to take some notes. "You don't mid if I sit here, do you Hazel?" - she asked smiling. |
Kayleigh walked into the classroom, she didn't like being near the front incase she got picked for a question which usually happened in Potions. She walked quickly to a seat in the second last row and took out her parchment, ink and quill hoping class would start soon. |
Kimberly walked into the Transfiguration classroom completly nervous. She sat down in a seat near the back and looking around didnt see anyone that she knew. Noticing the proffessor at her desk Kimberly gave hera shaky smile and got out her book, parchment, and quill. |
Katie sat in her chair and tapped her quill against her notepad. She watched as other students filed in and she was starting to wonder when class was going to start. She wasn't too sure what they would be covering today either. The third year Hufflepuff was just along for the ride today and she hoped that what ever it was that they would be covering she wouldn't get too lost. |
Excited that her favorite class started today, Rosalie walked into the Transfiguration classroom, and looked around for a familiar face. She noticed Brendon, smiled, and headed over to sit next to him. "Hey Brendon!" She greeted him, taking an empty seat next to him. "I wonder what's bothering Professor Pride..." Rosalie commented in a low voice, wrinkling her nose in question. |
Andy silently walked into the Transfiguration room. She sat down at a desk and took out her wand from her pocket. |
Lauren hurried into the Transfiguration classroom, a half dozen textbooks and two notebooks tucked under her arm. She struggled with the weight of the books and, tripping slightly on her own shoes as she passed Professor Pride's desk, allowed a textbook to slip from her grip. Still fighting to keep the books together, she bent to retrieve the book that had fallen and, in the process, lost two more. "It's just that kind of day, isn't it?" she mumbled spitefully. Still bent over, she gave an exasperated sigh that ruffled the hair that had now dropped in front of her face and shifted the remaining books to one side, scooping up the escaped three with her left arm. Once her books were once again under her control, she rose and she gave a glance and a small smile to her professor. Pride, who was sitting behind her desk with an odd, almost tired look on her face, looked unfocused. Lauren hoped she was alright as she dropped her books with a hollow clunk against the desk. Relieved to be rid of the weight, she settled into her seat, the hard wood of the chair solid against her back, and waited for class to begin. |
"I see we haven't started yet," Jenna said to herself. She walked to an empty desk, her long auburn hair swishing behind her. As she took her seat, she thought, I might as well get out my quill, parchment and textbooks since I'm early. She did so, and began drumming her fingers on her desk. |
Andy patiently waited at her desk. She scanned the room for her friends, but found none of them. She sighed and began to wonder if her friends had even come to school this year. |

Brendon looked at Rosalie and smiled. "I dont know. I have not really been paying attention as usual." He said smiling at her. |
Sitting at her desk Kimberly relized she hadnt even gotten out ink to take notes with or her wand. She reached down into her bag drawing out her ink bottle and wand wondering if any of her friends were coming. But for the time being Kimberly just sat in her seat feeling lonely. |
"Well I doubt we'll find out...I just hope I don't get on her bad side today." She responded, leaning back against her chair, so her waist length, ginger hair got pinned between her back and the chair. |

Danni raised her hand to quiet the class, "Alright everyone, I guess we'll start now. Today we will be learning about Switching spells. Who can give me the definition of a Switching spell?" she asked, absentmindedly holding her side. |
Rosalie's hand shot up, but she waited to be called on, instead of shouting the answer out like countless other students would, no doubt. |
Katie raised her hand, "Switching spells are a way of switching the places of two things. Say switching a cat into a hat." |
Jenna raised her hand. "A Switching Spell is used to change items from one thing to another," she said. I hope I'm right, she thought. |
Evangeline shoot her hand up. She was a little bit nervous so she decided she'd wait to be called. |
Kimberly looked around her at the hands shooting in the air. She kept silent, she was just going to listen and learn this class. |
Brendon just sat there. He had no clue what the answer was. He figured he should have paid attention in his other classes so he just let everyone eles around him answer. |
Kayleigh sank into her chair slightly, she woundered where her friends were because she wanted to talk to someone and she didn't like being in a class by herself. She felt lonely. |
Ryan raised his hand and said:"The switching spells is used when you want to change items from one thing to another" |
"switching spells are spells which are used to turn one thing into something else and vice versa." Ali said, confident in her answer. |
Star sat, still looking down at her desk, as people around her put their hands up to answer the question. She sort of knew the answer, she remembered Mac talking about it briefly, but she didn't dare try to answer in case she was wrong. She listened to everyone else instead. |
Hazel raised her hand. Switching spels are a class of spells which change items from one thing into another. It is the major branch of Transfiguration." she answered |
Rosalie looked at the Gryffindor who answered the question for a moment, then back at Professor Pride. He did have it mostly correct....she assumed. But she had a question about it. His answer was so vague. |
Davina wrote down her answers on her parchment. They seemed to have already given the answer so she put down her hand. No point in repeating what everyone else had already said. |
Lauren sat at her desk, dumbfounded by the amount of her fellow classmates who knew the answer to Professor Pride's question. She felt slightly embarassed that her hand did not fly up in unison with the rest of the class. She didn't always know the answer, of course, but when this many of her peers understood something, she generally followed suit. She supposed she could chalk it up to today being an all-around bad day for her and that made her feel slightly less behind, but she could still feel her cheeks burn slightly when the correct answer was given and her professor looked pleased at its accuracy. But class had to go on. Lauren shuffled in her seat in order to sit up straighter, smoothed out the parchment in front of her with the palm of her hand, and clamped tighter around her quill. She would get the next one. {OOC: Is this the first class to have started? Just curious to see if another is taking place or has taken place so far this term.} |
Hesitantly, Rosalie put her hand down, before speaking. "Wouldn't this spell not necessarily have to be used to switch things between two objects. Isn't it also used to...I don't know....exchange someone's feet for their hands? In that case it would be one subject, not two. "And are switching spells not used to change objects, but only their location?" She asked, unsure how to word her question. |
Evangeline dropped her hand. There was no need on repeating the answer when so many students had given the right one. She grabbed her quill and wrote down the answer just in case. She looked up at the girl who had made the questions. Those are pretty good ones - she thought looking at Professor Pride wating for the answers. |
Kennedy raised her hand and added, "In addition to what the others have said about it swapping one object for another, there is also the classification of cross-species switching, which allows one type of creature to be transfigured into another." |
Ben didn't bother to raise her hand, even though he knew the answer. Other people knew the answer, too, and he was fine with letting them answer. He took a note on the definition of a switching spell, though, so he wouldn't forget. |
When wrinkled up her nose. Some of the answers were beginning to confuse her. She slouched down in her chair and crossed one ankle over the other, preparing to take notes on what Professor Pride agreed with. She blew some rainbow hair out of her eyes looked around while she waited for Professor Pride to say something. Alie was a couple seats over. It was the first time she'd seen her since fourth year. And Badger was across the room. It'd been a reeeeeeeally long time since she'd talked to her. Whende returned her attention to her notebook and started to drum her fingers on the desk. |

Katie smiled and raised her hand, " When you are outside and it starts to rain and you don't have an umbrella. You could switch your hat into an umbrella." She laughed just at the thought of the situation. |

All right--Huffie got 3 points! Jenna thought excitedly. She wrote the answer down on her parchment. Then the teacher asked another question...but Jenna had no idea what the answer to this one was. ooc: Have fun, ya lucky duck :P |
Kennedy raised her hand and answered, "A switching spell might come in handy when one is facing a dangerous creature, person, or object. For example, if one is facing a creature with sharp teeth or fangs, you could switch them for a gummy candy and thereby lesson the threat." |

"Switching spells would also be useful to those who are more on the ... playful side. Like to play pranks, confuse people, turn something serious into something unexpected and inappropriate," she said, her voice suprisingly strong for the butterflies in her belly. "Just a different idea," she added with a small smile and a shrug. |
"Switching spells come in useful when my brother Garreth takes it upon himslef shove me off my broom. I simply switch a mud puddle for his bed. Its much more comfy to land on." Rebecca said from the front row. Transfiguration was one of her best classes. " Of corse if you're about to face a six headed dragon with claws like daggers, it might be a bit wise to switch him to something like a bunny." She said with a warm smile. " All so I find it usefull when I'm trying to ditch my family at an outing. Although I dont need a switching spell for that." She said with a wink. And to demonstrate she closed her eyes and thought of hot pink hair and tanned skin. " Wha-la! Compleatly diffrent person!" Lord, I love being a metamorphmagus She thought to herself happily |
Amanda, who was sitting in the back of the class, raised her hand and said, "A Switching Spell may come in handy pretty much at any time. Whether you're in the rain and you need an umbrella, you could switch your hat or something like that into it," Amanda paused and then continued. "To change something into another to fool someone. Umm ... if your in danger, you could switch the thing that could harm you into something harmless. Like ... a book or a flower. You can also do Cross-Species Switches. Like switching a lion into a rabbit. But, apparently it's easier to do the spell when the creatures have similar names. For example, turning a guinea fowl into a guinea pig. Or a similar appearance. Like turning a hedgehog into a pincushion. Or both. Such as turning a beetle into a button." |
Katie Kay thought she new the answers to both of those questions then when they were answered she had no clue. She wrote the answer on the parchment infront of her and listened closely. Katie liked the idea of switching spell she raised her hand and said "Can they be used for switing a hat into a seat or something like that?" Katie Kay was very fasinated with this. |

Audrey looked up from her notes, and glanced over at the person next to her to see what they were talking about. She had been daydreaming again...it seemed like she had a lot of trouble focusing lately. Noticing that they were talking about switching spells, she remembered a time back home when her older brother had switched the carrots that her father was eating with a big, fat worm. Smiling but with a slightly disgusted look on her face, she laughed to herself and wrote down the other students' answers to the question. |
Jen quickly ran into the class and sat at the nearest seat. She took out her books and stared up at Professor Pride. She then let her eyes wander around at the other students in the class and she noticed some people that she knew. |
Daphne idly tapped her wand against the back of her hand. She figured she should pick up a book and try her best to answer. Then again, she wasn't a big fan of reading and finding answers. While she mindlessly flipped through the book, she caught the word "Switching". She read on and figured an answer to the question! Full of pride and confidence, she raised her hand. "You could use a switching spell if one of your friends has a purse you want, then you could just magically switch the two. Though it would be easier to just steal your friends purse..." She trailed off as she realized her answer made no sense. |

Cora was scribbling down notes, feverishly. Her parchment was soon filled with her curly handwriting and she palced her quill down, waiting for the next question. Professor Pride seemed a little shaky today, and not her usual, bubbly self. Cora picked up her quill again, and it hovered over her paper. |
Caity wrote down the other answer on a piece of parchment before raising her hand and saying "A switching spell can be used when it is hot, and you can change you umbrella into a canapy to keep the sun out" |
Dan came into the classroom and sat down at the back in the far corner |
Kimberly was bent over her paper scibbling down notes, she didnt want to miss anything. |
Mallory was scribbling a lot of notes, concentrating on paying attention. Switching spell... |
Ann was scribbling down a ton of notes about switching spells, making sure not to miss out and important points. She really wanted to excel this year. |
Amanda raised her hand. " A switching spell might come in handy when you are dueling. You could change your opponets wand into a chicken or something." |
James continued writing down notes. He recognized different voices saying different things. He had come in so quietly no one noticed him. Everyone had already took his answers so he just kept on writing. |
Star looked down, dipping her quill into her ink pot as she began to jot down random notes on what people were saying around her. She didn't want to miss much if she could help it. Once she had jotted down everything important, she put her quill back down and looked at Professor Pride again. |
Lyn looked down at her parchment and scribbled everything that she thought was important. She was eager to try the Switching Spell. |

Mallory raised her hand "When in the midst of a dangerous situation, say, you're friends are playing Quidditch and you're sitting in the stands when a bludger is coming right at you...you could quickly switch it to a hat or someone's scarf instead of being pounded by an enchanted, rough ball..." |
Bella finished coping her notes and looked up eager to hear the next question. She set her quill down and patiently waited for Professor Pride to continue. |
Excelsior realized there were a lot of occasions where a switching spell might come in handy. He picked up his quill and began to write his answer on the parchment in front of him. |
Blair came in and sat in the very back and started writing |
Elina wrote her answer down on her paper, and then raised her hand."A Switching Spell would come in handy in all of the ways mentioned so far, but one could also be used in the case of food, like switching a rock into a roll for someone less fortunate. Also it could be used to exchange one thing, like dirty laundry, for clean laundry. Not that it wouldn't be easy to just do the laundry..." Elina looked around. She hoped that her answer would be satisfactory for Prof. Pride. |
Ashley wrote down as much notesas she could. Her hand began to cramp but she kept writting she had to get a good grade. |
Chris quickly got up from his chair and sat down at the desk infront of him to where Ashley was. "Hey Ashley, nice to see you in class today." he whispered to her quietly taking out his paper again and continued to draw the lesson. |
Jen wrote down as much as she could. She didn't want to miss anything in case it was important. After writing it down, Jen continued to look around the room and then back up to the teacher. She pulled her wavy brown hair back to get it out of her face. |
Ginny looked around and scribbled furiously on the parchment. she had taken enough notes to last if it came in handy, she brought her blond ebangs out of her eyes and ooked back upto the teacher. |
Kayleigh was writing all the stuff down about switching spells but only half listening to everyone. |
Emily leaned back in her chair and set her quill down. She had already written the definition of switching spells and about five of the reasons already given. Now she decided to wait for the next question before speaking up. |
Andy scribbled some notes on her parchement with her spidery handwriting. She was a first year, she needed to know all of this. She looked up at the professor, waiting for another comment. |
Taylor copied down several lines of notes using as much detial as possible. His grades last term were somewhat low, so he needed to raise them. |
beth who had sat down by emily and started her work |
