| | Muggle Studies Lesson 2 Professor Light entered the classroom humming cheerfully. She had had a nice break between the intensity of the last class by making her lesson plans for this one rather relaxing and set to be quite interesting.
Professor Light grabbed a big shoebox with a slit in the top and placed it beside her on the desk. Waved hello as the first couple students trickled in.
ooc: I predict this class will span at least 2 days, so don't be surprised if it's rather slow moving, it's meant to be like that. Just keep posting... THIS lesson counts as your homework, and if you stay active and make at least a few thoughtful posts, you should be able to earn 10-15 points rather easily. |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Roma Galda Sixth Year | Bassoons galore! Caitlin eagerly entered the classroom; she felt like she hadn't been to Muggle Studies in ages. It was, after all, her favorite class.
Looking around, she tried to find a fimiliar face. A few people stuck out, and Caitlin thought that she'd had a quick glance of Ariana. Shaking her head, she eagerly approached the Professor.
"Hey!" she cried, then, realizing that she was probably too informal, she added a hasty, "Professor." Professor Light was holding a rather large shoebox with what looked like a gash in the top. Deciding that she could wait until the lesson started to see what it was, Caitlin smiled. "How are you doing?"

| The REAL Sorting Hat: "Ravenclaw!" This monkey is bananas. Ariana walked in a few minutes after Caitlin. She yawned a small yawn, but she looked much better than she had in days. She looked...normal now. She had a bright smile on her face, her eyes were bright and cheerful again and she had a bounce to her step.
Walking up to a desk, she waved happily at Caitlin before sitting down and pulling out her pencil and notebook. She looked questioningly at the shoebox in the professors hand, a quizzical eyebrow raising slightly, but shrugged, too happy to be bothred with the unknown.
"Hello professor, great day isn't it?" she asked cheerfully. Truthfully it wasn't a great day, but she was having a great day foor some reason.

Rapunzel wandered into Muggle Studies behind Caitlin and took a seat near the front. This class was easily one of her best, being Muggle-born, and she was looking forward to the lesson. Professor Light was a really engaging teacher.

Graduated | Miss Sarah Bippity Boppity Boo! Professor Light clapped her hands together to signal she w as ready to start the lesson.
"Alright, good to see you all here. I hope last class was thought-provoking for you all, I know I certainly had the wheels turning in my head. Now, remember, no quills, and a notebook, if possible, and we'll begin with today's topic," Professor Light paused and turned to the board once more, picking up a piece of chalk and writting, Muggle Studies Lesson 2 Muggles in the Present A Wide Overview...

| The REAL Sorting Hat: "Ravenclaw!" This monkey is bananas. Ari smiled happily as she picked up her pencil and began writing at the top of her notebook, Muggle Studies Lesson 2
Muggles in the present
A Wide Overview
She then sat back and waited patiently, knowing this was going to be one good lesson. She loved Muggle Studies, even if she had forgotten to do her homework; though she had had more important things to worry about, like sleep.

Graduated | Miss Sarah Bippity Boppity Boo! Professor Light waited for the students to take out their notebooks. A few did, while others sleepily went through the motions of being interested. I guess this is what happens when you wait until late in the day to host the lesson... students all start falling asleep. No matter...
"Alright, let's start off with a quick discussion question. These won't be as ground breaking as last lesson, as I believe I mentioned this lesson should be much simplier, but none the less interesting. Here goes..."
Professor Light turned around and wrote on the board, As discussed last week, Muggles and Wizards, besides the obvious magical differences, really aren't that different. What times do you think the muggle way is sometimes the more interesting, of easier way?
Remember no right or wrong answers!

Hogwarts RPG Name: Folake Otedola Slytherin First Year | Jai wasn't sure if she should raise her arm or right so she wrote instead better safe than sorry. Muggles get to find out how to do things like fix machines but wizards use a wand and take the easy way it doesn't make things fun it's boring and quick where as with muggles they get the pride of knowing they have accompilish something worth while.
She shrugged at the end result and looked around the class. It wasn't that boring was it? |

| The REAL Sorting Hat: "Ravenclaw!" This monkey is bananas. Ariana frowned thinking back to when she lived as a Muggle, which was basically her whole live up to the point where she went here.
"Well ,there's many things. I've lived like a Muggle all my life, and the most interesting thing I can think of are the busses and automibles they drive. I'm nervous when it comes to floo powder or flying, so driving around in a large metal object sounds quite...fun. And it is! And they have to build things with thier hands, not wands. Um, there's also the way they teach their children; all those diffrent schools they have to go to...there's a lot of things that are interesting about them." Ariana replied, raisig her hand with a smile."
She wrote this down in her notebook, short hand of course.

| SS Senile Senior Qaz was busy taking notes with her favorite gel pen. She raised her hand and said, 'I believe that the Muggle way of preparing food is much more gratifying than doing it with magic. It's a way of expressing love for your family and I think it brings you closer to nature, especially if you also grow your own food.' |

He had seen an iPod before and found it a very unique and interesting device. "The muggles have to be very smart and good with their hands to think up things like that. In fact, they must be really, really smart!" |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Roma Galda Sixth Year | Bassoons galore! Caitlin smiled up at the Professor. "Well, I actually learned this one from you last term ... computers! I think it must be so much easier to keep all of that in one big place instead of having a bunch of seperate sheets of parchement or a notebook."
She looked around at the class; they seemed to know a lot more about Muggle inventions than she did ... why not learn from them?

" An aqualung.
breathing underwater is difficult for wizards. Thereis gillyweed which is difficult to get. A wizard could transfigure themselv es, but then there is the risk of the animal nature taking control over the human part. A simple bubble chrm could work, but it slows a swimmer down and blurs vision.
An aqualung provides oxygen without obstructing vision and is almost risk free.
It really is interesting."

Graduated | Miss Sarah Bippity Boppity Boo! "Excellent, all of you! Now... everything you listed is something that Muggles, without magic of course, have developed with their own skills. Which means it might not be a bad idea for us to learn about their inventions, their events, and the pros and cons of doing things their way. We know that it's not always the best, but recently some of the inventions... yes even ipods and computers, have caught the eyes of wizards and witches all around. As lyra_eve mentioned, sometimes the plants and potions we rely on are not as readily available as the Muggle invention. And so... this brings us to today's lesson/homework!" Professor Light finished excitedly.
The class didn't seem to share her excitement. She continued to smile and explained. "You see, today's lesson is self taught... per-say. By doing your homework in class, we are all going to learn about a variety of modern Muggle aspects. In this box, I have hundreds of slips of events, objects, and customs of Muggles. Each of you is going to draw one, and then work with whatever you want... I have encyclopedias, Muggle computers for those of you who know how to use them or took my class last year, and of course, each other, as I'm sure there is some readily available information amongst your peers!"

Graduated | Miss Sarah Bippity Boppity Boo! "Alright, now here is how this is going to work. Each of you will draw only one slip. And it's up to you to use the remaining classtime to prepare a presentation your object, event, whatever you drew from the box. As far as note taking, just make sure to write down at least 2-3 of the presentations, and you should be covered for the lesson. I don't want this to be boring research only, so you'll be given up to 15 points for your presentation. But only 10 of them will be for accurate information. The other 5... well, they are for how entertaining your presentation is! That's not as hard as it sounds, I promise... anyone remember our acting assignment?" Professor Light winked at Caitlin and a few of the other students she knew had been actively involved with that project.
"Alright, you may come up now! Oh, and of course, to be fair..."
Professor Light reached in and drew a card. She chuckled and held it up to show the class. "'Bubblegum'... now that should be a fun one. "
ooc: Your Homework/Classwork
*** NO PLAGARISM. If I catch plagarism, aka word for word copying of someone else's work that isn't yours... even a few sentences, you will be warned and detentioned and anything I can get my hands on.
15 points- 10 for at least 2 paragraphs of accurate info, 5 for quality/overall excitingness of the presentation. You may use 'props'.
You will make one post, and I will edit your post to tell you which card you picked. Use this thread to prepare. I will open a new thread for presentations, which must be done in one long post.
DUE: Monday, August 27th. (The presentation thread will close that day)

Hogwarts RPG Name: Agie Brandywine Seventh Year | -S H I F T Y- Agie really liked this idea. She love drama and even more presentations "Oh wow Professor, this should be fun" She said in excitement.
Agie walked slowly up the the box and took a deep breath. She was hoping to get a topic that would interest her. She reached into the box and drew out a card. Professor Light took the card from her hand and read it outloud. "Ohh... here's a unique one... 'flashlight'. I can think of a lot you could do with that... If you want, I think I can find one you can borrow!" Professor Light smiled and moved the box toward the next person.

Kimberly hesitantly walked up to the front of the room, she thought the project sounded really fun but she didn't like public speaking that much. As she pulled out a slip of paper Kimberly flashed a shy smile at the professor and than looked down to see what her topic was. Professor Light smiled at Kimberly, who seemed sort of nervous. "Don't be worried dear! Everyone will love your presentation I'm sure. Let's see what you got..." Professor Light pulled open the card... 'space station'. "Oh, now that shouldn't be too bad. That's an interesting one too! You can do anything about it, why it's important, what the risks are..."
Professor Light trailed off and turned to the next student to explain their card.
Kimberly blushed, her emotions were always so evident on her face, but she was grateful for the teacher to be so understanding. She turned away now beaming because the professor had given her encouragement she fell to researching 'space stations', this would be interesting!

| SS Senile Senior Qaz walked up to get her card. She certainly hoped it would be as easy as bubblegum, which she was constantly snapping back home. Professor Light smiled as she read Qaz's card. 'Cinderella'. "Ohh, now that's an interesting children's story that most wizards don't hear. We have a similar one in the Beetle Card tales, but not one that has quite as much umph as the muggle version does. That should also be very easy to present, although don't just tell the story, tell a little about the impact on muggles too!" Qaz was pleased with her assignment and thanked the Professor.

| The REAL Sorting Hat: "Ravenclaw!" This monkey is bananas. Ariana grinned as she finished writing down the homework, glad that she'd be able to do this at least. Heaven knew Ravenclaw needed more points and she was awesome with presentations. Pulling her long black hair out ofh er face, she walked up to the desk with a smile and took out a card from the large shoebox, closing her eyes. Please be something easy... she thought. Professor Light moved and took the card, and opened it. "Haha. Compact Disc... also known as a CD. I believe you are used to muggle objects so... That's a really wide open topic... do something dramatic!" Professor Light winked and spun dramatically, before giving Ariana her card. She recognized her from the first lesson, and remembered she had presented some really interesting points during their discussions. Or maybe she just had a Ravenclaw bias...

Kerry nervously walked up to the front. She enjoyed learning about muggle life, they fascinated her. As she neared the box she hoped she would find herself with a topic that was not only interesting, but somewhat entertaining.
When it was her turn to pick a card, she put her hand into the box and drew out a card that read.... "Ohhh dear... I don't believe you were here back then, but some of my older students might chuckle at this, "Vacuum." Funny sort of muggle object... useful, but when hit with spells, might umm... explode?" Professor Light trailed off fighting back a face and full blown laughter at the memory.

Graduated | Miss Sarah Bippity Boppity Boo! Professor Light motioned the rest of the students to the front of the room. "Alright now, feel free to get started as soon as you get your card!" IMPORTANT ooc info: You can draw a card anytime between now and Saturday night. But you won't be given many participation points if you just draw the card and leave. The presentation thread will open sometime Saturday morning. You may most definitely post more in this thread even after you've drawn your card!

For some reason, butterflies were jumping in her stomach. Why was she so nervous? Deciding not to dwell on it, she slowly reached her hand into the box and pulled out ... ... 'digital camera.' Professor Light smiled at her. "Caitlin, you have natural talent when it comes to presentations... you'll do fine. Besides... cameras have lots of potential!" Professor Light smiled. "Of course, we have cameras too... but I'd like you to find out about Muggle cameras."

She shook her head to try to get the image out of her head. "Well vacuum it is then. Umm Professor... do we have to some how get hold of these items for our presentation as well. I'd love to have one, but I must admit I'm not sure where I could find one. I'm guessing after the exploding incident, there wouldn't be a vacuum around Hogwarts anymore, would there?" Kerry asked
