In front of the front desk counter there are long oak tables, like the ones in the Great Hall, that span the length of the library. However, these are surrounded by bookcases laden with texts. Some students begin sitting down on the bench and taking out their homework ready to get started on their work. Others obtain large reference texts before settling down in their spots. Others have formed small study groups and begin conversing in a soft whisper about their newest assignment.

"Oh.." Said Clifford, slightly disappointed that Sarah was leaving, he was beginning to enjoy himself. "Umm.. yeah, see you Sarah." He waved goodbye and glanced nervously at Evangeline as she asked spoke about Sarah. Slowly, he turned to Excelsior, waiting for his reply.

"Yeah, we'll talk to you again soon, for sure," Excelsior said smiling. He was like a fish out of water, really not sure what to say since he had so little experience talking to girls, except, of course, Evangeline, and she was somehow different. She was a good friend, she was very pretty, but she was with Cliff and he would never think of her in any other way than as a friend. Sarah was very pretty too, and he was a lot more unsure of her. He hoped he wasn't making a fool of himself.

Evangeline watched Excelsior closely and sighed. "Boys" - she muttered under breath as she rummaged around her bag for some parchment and ink. She looked up at them and smirked. "Girls don't bite you know?" - she told them shaking her head. "But let's drop the subject, shall we?" - she added as she opened her Potions book. "What are you guys doing here anyway?" - she asked them remembering they hand't told her why they were on the Library.

Clifford looked shocked. "What are we doing here? Doing homework of course! Why else would we be in the library?" He chuckled and picked up his Quidditch book again, flicking through the pages once more. "Oh.. and girls might not bite, but I think pokings worse.." He glanced at Excelsior from over his book, still watching him closely.

"Well it's kinda funny, but I actually went to a bunch of classes the last couple days and did homework and stuff. I was trying to find out some answers I need for class," Excelsior said with a blush. "I was just kind of bored when I showed up in the classroom, but then it started to get kind of thought provoking and interesting and I guess I kind of got into it more than I thought." He really was surprised to find he was actually interested in learning. "Who knows, maybe I can even earn a few house points for Slytherin while I'm at it?"

Evangeline rolled her eyes at Cliff. "Homework?" - she asked him raisin gher eyebrow and looking down at his book. "Then what is a Quidditch book doing here?" - she asked him. She shook her head still smirking. She saw him looking at Excelsior and nudge him softly. She could sense that Excelsior was embarassed and Clifford wasn't helping.
"That's really good" - she said smiling at Excelsior. "I'm glad you actually enjoyed classes and that you want to help Slytherin." - told him scribbling a few notes on the parchment she had laid out onto the table.

"Yeah, isn't it funny? It all started out of boredom, I guess," Excelsior said. "I couldn't find anything exciting to do, so I went into a classroom and started listening. It turned out to be a lot more interesting than I expected!"

Excelsior thought for a second. "Say, would you guys like some alone time?"

Evangeline listened to Excelsior, looking down at her parchment making small corrections here and there, with a smile. She stopped scribbling and looked up at him. "That's good. Some classes are really interesting." - she looked down at her homework and snorted. "Last Potions class was definetely interesting." - she said looking back up at Excelsior.
She frowned at his question. She was starting to feel that Excelsior was feeling uncomfortable in there so she moved a little bit away from Cliff. "We already told you. We are fine here." - she glanced at Clifford and then back at Excelsior.

"This Qudditch book? Oh, yeah, well I was just having a break, I've been busy doing Astronomy homework all morning, I think I deserve a break." He coughed nervously at Evangeline's nudge and got the hint, he didn't want to annoy Excelsior.

Clfford glanced at Evangeline, at Excelsior's next comment, before turning back to face Excelsior, "Yeah, we're cool here." He said, nodding and looking back at his book.

"Sorry," Excelsior said with a start, realizing that he had been daydreaming for a period of several minutes. "Yes, that potions class was really something! You missed a good one, Clifford. The subject was, of all things, love potions. Very interesting, and totally unexpected." The potions class was what had inspired Excelsior to become more intense in his studies. He didn't know class could be so exciting.

Evangeline nodded. "Yes, totally unexpected." - she chuckled still scribbling on her homework. She did it for a few more minutes and then dropped and quill looking up at them. "Done" - she smiled looking down at the clock. "Sorry guys I have to go now" - she said glancing up back at them and starting to stuff her things inside her bag. She leaned closer to Cliff and planted a kiss on his cheek. "I'll see you later" - she smiled at him before standing up and hugging Excelsior. "It was great talking to you" - she told him with a little wink. "Try to stay out of trouble, okay guys?" - she smirked at both of them before waving goodbye and making her way out of the Library.

Clifford rolled his eyes at the two of them as they spoke about the Potions lesson. "Well, it sounded terrible, I'm glad I missed it.. I'll still try and do the homework though, I'll check the Announcement board later..." He stared shocked at Evangeline, suprised at how quickly she managed to get through her homework. He grinned as she kissed his cheek and grinned when she gave Excelsior a hug. "Of course we'll stay put of trouble..." He smirked in Excelsior's direction. "What does she think we're gonna do?"

Excelsior smirked. "Yeah, we're not gonna get in any trouble or anything. We'll be as good as angels, promise! Hey Evangeline, talk to you later", he said, giving her a quick hug back.

Clifford chuckled and dropped his book on the table and looked back at Excelsior. "So.. that's all you've been up to then? Classes and homework?" It had been a while since him and Excelsior had been alone together, and he often missed the company of his friend. He loved Evangeline's company, but maybe it would be good to talk with Excelsior alone, with no girls present.

"Yeah, kind of pathetic, isn't it? I haven't had too much exciting going on around here lately, I can tell you. I guess it's pretty bad when you have to resort to schoolwork to keep yourself busy," Excelsior said with a sigh. "So, what's new with you, Clifford, really?" Excelsior had missed his friends over the time he was in Romania and reallly wanted to catch up wth him and talk over things that were happening.

Clifford nodded. "I just try and stay as far away from schoolwork as possible.. I just catch up when I can, what's the point of rushing, eh?" He shrugged. "But some people like the work.. I got the impression you enjoyed the classes you went to, and Eva's always going on about homework." He looked thoughtfully at he friend, trying to think of an honest answer for his question. "Well, apart from the whole Quidditch disaster things have been pretty good." He cleared his throat and carried on. "And things between Eva and I seem to be going okay.. you are okay with the two of us aren't you? Really?" He had been meaning to ask this for quite sometime, but couldn't help feel a little akward at the situation.

"Oh yeah, I sure am, I'm more than okay, I think it's fantastic!", Excelsior assured his friend. "There are only a couple things I'm concerned about," he said honestly, happy to have this opportunity to talk to his friend alone. "First of all, I never want to get in the way of you two and I can understand it any time you guys want to be alone. It's perfectly understandable." He really wanted to be clear with Clifford on that point. "The other thing is a little harder for me to talk about. I only kinda wish I could find somebody to be with, too. I guess I really envy you guys that closeness though I know it's dumb." Excelsior couldn't be more honest. He found it surprisingly easy to talk to Clifford about this subject, much easier than he had anticipated. It seemed almost natural.

Clifford shook his head. "It's not like that, I mean, we've had plenty of time alone.." He felt his cheeks grow hot but carried on, he needed to make sure Excelsior understand. "But you are, and always will be, our best friend.. remember the Silver Trio? Well, you're a third of that.. I like hanging out with you just as much as I like being with Evangeline." He gave a small grin. "But sort of in a different way.." Clifford raised an eyebrow but nodded, he had a feeling something like this was bothering his friend. "It's not dumb.." He said slowly, "It's nice to feel close to someone, you can't really pick when it's going to happen though. I mean, I got a little confused when I started getting these feelings for Eva.. they just came all of a sudden.. but it's a nice feeling." He smiled. "I know your time will come soon.. you and Sarah seemed pretty close." He couldn't help but bring up this last comment.

"Sarah," Excelsior sighed. "I don't know, there would be so many problems if things got serious with her. She's certainly pretty enough I grant you, but there are so many hidden obstacles there it isn't funny. First of all, I don't know how she feels about me, or even if she has a boyfriend. Then there's a really big problem of her being a Gryffindor. I know my parents wouldn't take kindly to that if anything were to come of it, though sometimes I'm not even sure why anymore."

Excelsior paused. It was important to get all that stuff out in the open and he felt a lot better. "I'm so glad we're the Silver Trio, and that's something that can't be broken! It's definitely one of the greatest things that's ever happened to me," he said honestly. "If I hadn't gone to Hogwarts and met the two of you, I'm sure I'd be really miserable right now. Certainly not having as much fun, that's for sure."

Clifford nodded, he felt the same, meeting Evangeline and Excelsior in The Leaky Cauldron before term had been one of greatest things that had happened to him too. He couldn't imagine a life at Hogwarts without either of them. He didn't say any of this to Excelsior, he was sure his friend understood.

Clifford listened intently as Excelsior told him what he was feeling, and he was glad he had been able to share it. He wasn't normally very good at comfoting people, or at giving advice for that matter, but things seemed different when he was talking with Excelsior. "You shouldn't look at negatives, what about the positives? She's fun, friendly, she seems quite smart, she loves reading almost as much as Eva, she seems cool.. who cares if she's a Gryffindor? I dont think that hardly matters anymore." He looked thoughtfully for a moment. "I never heard her mention anything about a boyfriend.."

"Yeah, isn't it funny? I thought it was going to be a big deal if someone we met were in a different house than us but the crazy thing is, it really doesn't matter at all," Excelsior said thoughtfully. "No, I haven't heard her mention a boyfriend or anything, but I really don't want to push things with her. I saw how quickly she ran off this morning. I guess when things are ready to happen they'll just happen, like they did for you and Evangeline. Who knows, Sarah may not even be the right girl, she may still be out there somewhere and I just haven't met her yet," Excelsior said. "Anyway, I'm really glad we're having the chance to have this discussion. It isn't often I get to talk to anyone about this kind of thing and it's actually kind of a relief. Hey, thanks for listening to me!"

"I know, before I started my brother was warning me not to interact with the other houses, but I don't see the problem with it.." Clifford nodded in agreement, "I think that's a good idea, if there's anything there, it will just happen by itself, but from what I saw this morning.. I think she liked you." Clifford grinned, glad that he was able to help out his friend. "No problem," he said with a shrug. "I know sometimes it's easier to talk about things.. that seems to be my problem recently, keeping things bottled up." He chuckled. "But now you owe me.. so next time I need some help I know where to come."

"For certain," Excelsior agreed enthusiastically. "Say, Clifford, you know you can talk to me anytime you want and I'd be more than glad to listen. Is there anything you'd like to talk about with me right now?" Excelsior was there at any time for his friend, wanting to help out in any way he could.

"I know I can talk to you Excelsior." Said Clifford nodding, he knew that if he did have any serious problems he couldn't talk about with Evangeline, Excelsior would probably be one of the first people he went to. He looked thoughtfully at his friend for a few moments. "I don't think there is really anything I need to talk about.. things seem to be going pretty smoothly right now, except." He bit his lower lip nervously. "Okay, there was one thing.." He wasn't sure if this was the sort of problem Excelsior was talking about but he carried on anyway. "Do you think I should ask Evangeline to be my girlfriend?" He blushed, but didn't care. "It's just.. I really do like her.. but I've never asked anyone out before.." He waited nervously.

"Yeah, I really do," Excelsior responded enthusiastically. "Gosh, Clifford, I thought you had already done that! I'll tell you something that might surprise you. The very first time I met the two of you and saw the two of you together, I knew there was a really special bond there between the two of you, and I mean besides the bond that the three of us have as the Silver Trio. This was something different, even deeper than that, like the two of you were meant to be together in a special way. It's hard to describe, but the bond is real and for me, somehow, it was easy to see that. People tell me I have a special gift about that kind of thing," Excelsior said, a little uneasily. "But definitely, the two of you belong together!"
