Doyle moved into the center of the room and conjured a table with a book. He began the wand movement as he started the spell. Three turns of his wrist and two flicks, the second flick tapping the very tip of his wand on the book. "Clausaltus obfirmo," incanted on the pause, a small flash of white issuing from his wand and then, he tapped the book again as he began the slow flick. As he raised his wand slowly upwards he said, "Open sesame," and the white light which connected his wand and the book broke and seemed to be absorbed by the book. Professor Branxton demonstrated the success of the charm by reaching over to open the book. It remained closed until he said the password; only then was he able to flip through the pages. "Timing is everything. I suggest practicing without wands or books and once you are ready, try it on something you won't mind ruining. If this spell goes wrong you can end up with anything from a vanished book to one that will never open again to any number of other possible unwanted outcomes." |
Austin practiced the movement, muttering "Clausaltus Obfirmo". He watched the other students who seemed to be getting the hand of the incantation, but he still muttered because he felt foolish if he did something incorrect. He waited to see if the other students where going to try the entire spell. |
Qaz hadn't realized she'd need an old book to practice on. She dug through her bag and pulled out a book of crossword puzzles. She had been to busy to do them anyway. She set the book in front of her and prepared herself. She picked up her wand and went round and round and round. Down once and down again saying, 'Clausaltus obfirmo,' tapping the book...and nothing happened. She was sure that the light came at this point. She must have done something wrong, but what??? She grabbed her notes to see if she could figure out what she was doing wrong... |
Christian watched the professor do the counter charm. Honestly, this was the only class he had really ever payed attention in. It was interesting. Not to mention it was good way to lock his chain and earring case up in the common room. He followed what the professor dude had done without his wand. After a few tries, he put the whole thing together. Practising the locking charm and the way to open it, he couldn't help but think about his kitten. They had never been separated before, not for this long. He couldn't help but worry that something wrong had happened to his little fuzzball. This through his game off, he couldn't really concentrate on the charms, thereby doing them halfheartedly. Good thing he wasn't using his wand yet. |
Qaz couldn't figure out what she was doing wrong. Try again...she picked up her wand and went around once, around twice and around a third time. Flick once and flick again tapping the book and saying, 'Clausaltus obfirmo.' Again, nothing happened. She was getting so frustrated. She was terrible with a wand. She picked up her notes and started reading again... |
Christian saw a girl getting frustrated. He watched her for a second. He approached her and said, "I think you're missing a pause and then another flick."He paused. "I think. I forgot to take notes." He laughed a little. "But I'm pretty sure is 3 turns, 2 flicks, pause and one last flick." |
Couleia took a deep breathe. "Clausaltus Obfirmo," she said loud and clear as she moved her wand in three circles, finishing with two flicks, a pause, and a final flick. It was safe to say at this point that she had gotten that part down, but she always felt doing it a few times more could perfect the flaws she might've still had. As she practiced her wand movement, she looked at her things in front of her, deciding which object to test the complete spell on. |

'I think you're right about the number of flicks, but I'm sure that a white light came out of his wand when he tapped the book on the second downward motion and stayed through the third flick. I can't seem to get the light on the tap...so I've never followed through with the third slow flick. I don't know, maybe all of this studying is getting to me....seeing things that aren't there.' Qaz answered, looking rather sheepish. |
After practicing the movements and the incantation, Austin nervously picked up his wand. He procedded to shuffle through his bag to find a very worn out wordsearch book that he hadnt used in quiet some time. He sighed and began to try the spell on his book, but to no avail. Following a few minutes of mistakes, he went back to his notes to see what he was doing wrong. |
Qaz saw the Ravenclaw that had tried to help her pull out a puzzle book. Well, if he gets it to work, at least I'll know that the charm doesn't have an aversion to puzzle books. She watched as the others for a while, hoping that it would give her some confidence. |
Couleia sighed. She looked into her bookbag a third time, though she knew it was no use. The only books she had were her school books she couldn't afford to ruin. She began to think of a way to use what they had learned in both Charms and Transfiguration to somehow create a book she could use out of something she didn't mind ruining, but she only drew blanks. |
Qaz walked up to the boy that had tried to help her. 'Do you think that we're not having any luck because we're both using puzzle books? It looks like you're doing the right wand movements that I am. What else could it be?' she asked. |
"are you talking to me?" austin said as he turned around. "well anyway if you were i dont think it had to do with the type of book its more in the timming of the movment and the incantation" |
Couleia finally gave up her search in her head for an answer to her lack of supply and raised her hand. "Excuse me, Mr. Branxton...do you happen to have an extra book I could test the spell with? I didn't realize we'd need one, I'm so sorry," she asked apologetically. |
Qaz backed off. If she'd known his name, she would have used it. Oh well, this was not her day. She tried once again. Picking up her wand, she went through the movements circle back once, circle back twice and circle back a third time. Flick once and flick again tapping the book and saying, 'Clausaltus obfirmo.' This time the light appeared, catching her off guard. She tapped the book again, and while she raised her hand slowly, she said, 'Kaploch' then watched as the light seemed to seep into the book. Qaz just looked at her book in disbelief. |
Jesse grinned modestly as he praticed saying the incantation, in truth he had already read about it in his Charms book and although he had never tried it he knew the basic idea of it, Jesse took a deep calming breath and then gave his wand three slow turns and two quick flicks a short puase and one final flick, "Clausaltus Obfirmo" Jesse whispered (He felt reather silly saying it too loudly), The tip of his wand glowed for a fraction of a second and then the light went out. He smiled slightly at his brand new diary that his auntie had gotten him and then as he was just about ready to give up but decided to try once more, Jesse took another deep breath, gave his wand three turns and two short flicks the second flick tapping the very tip of the book a small flash of white light appeared at the tip of his wand and kind've stood there waiting for the next step, Jesse waited a second then gave one final flick and said loudly "Clausaltus Obfirmo!!" As he said it the white light reached out toward the brand new diary untill the two were connected by the stream of white. Jesse slowly raised his wand upward and said in a low voice so that nobody would hear him, "Chess" as he said it the light seemed to disappear into the diary. Jesse grinned and then with nervous fingers tried to pry the book open, to his extreme pleasure it would not open no matter what he did. Jesse grinned even more broadly and then said the password, it finnaly opened and Jesse raised his hand and looked over to Professor Branxton who seemed very upset. |

Qaz blushed when the girl congratulated her. 'Um, thanks. I still can't believe it. I'm Qaz, by the way.' |

Jesse continued practiceing the spell, even though he had got it right he still figured that it wouldn't hurt to keep trying, Jesse looked down the row of chairs and toward a group of three students (two girls in his year and a boy whome he had never seen) who were talking, he frowned slightly as he didn't approve of talking during classes, one of the people in perticular had caught his attention, it was the other girl who had almost performed the charm but had failed at the last minute, Jesse had never payed much attention to girls but somehow he couldn't help noticeing this one, She had strawberry blond hair and when she looked toward the girl next to her he was able to see a pair of big blue eye's, Jesse smiled nervously and slowly continued with his spell work, he silently hoped that the three of them would stop talking and get bac to work before long, if not they would proably get into trouble. |

Qaz smiled at Couleia. She certainly knew that feeling. It sure was nice of the other boy to lend her his book. Back to the matter at hand. She whispered her password and her book opened right up. She figured she better try it again...make sure the first one wasn't just luck. She brought her wand to the ready and went through the movements: circle back once, circle back twice and circle back a third time. Flick once and flick again tapping the book and saying, 'Clausaltus obfirmo.' Once again the light appeared. This time she was more prepared. She tapped the book again, and while she raised her hand slowly, she whispered, 'HiJinx' then watched as the light sank into the book. Her cat would be pleased to know she'd used his name as the password. |
