First Charms Class: Part 2 The first thing you notice as you walk into the charms classroom is that the tables and chairs have been pushed into a ring around the walls, creating a large open space in the middle the room. "Good afternoon class," a worn-looking Professor Branxton greeted he class. "Today we will continue to perfect the Diary Charm wand movement and then introduce the incantation. Please take out your wands and demonstrate the movement for me as I walk among you." |
Ray took his wand, and started his wand motion, he made three circle, flicked his wand two times, than paused and finally made a final flick. He kept doing the same movement, till the movement became easy to Ray, he looked at the professor walking among the students. "Professor can we get the incantation now?" |
Professor Doyle demonstrated the wand movement once again for those who may have been absent from the last class or had forgotten. Click here to view wand movement |
Thump listened to the instructions and pulled out his wand ready to begin. He watched the Proffessor out of the corner of his eye and copied his movements making sure to add the long flourish near the end. He stood there practicing nonchalantly wondering where this was going to lead to. |
Antwone took out his wand and started to make a circle with his wand three times, flicked quickly twice, paused, then made one final and definite flick. He was satisfied with his wand movement and turned to Professor Doyle waiting for the incantation. But then he had a question. "Excuse me, what is the use of a Diary Charm," Antwone asked with his hand raised. |
Mallory imitataed the Professor and practiced the movement for a few more times. After a little more practicing and attempts later, she got used to the movement and was on her way to perfecting it. Okay, Mal...circular motion thrice...flickflick...aaaannndddd...flick...she thought as she instructed herself on what to do. |
"That is an excellent question, Mr. Thomas," Professor Branxton replied as he walked between the students, nodding as Mr. Nixon performed the motion correctly. "Can anyone answer him?" |
Leo Moretti looked at the tables that have been pushed into a ring wall, making him frown. This was going to be interesting. Wasn't it? Smiling at the Professor, he felt a little bit sad for him. He was still teaching while his daughters will missing. It must be horrible. Leo knew that if he had two girls, he'd go mad. And he'd do his best to go and find them. Like what Professor Doyle is doing. Sighing, Moretti took out his wand and prepared himself. |
Amelia entered the charms classroom and noticed that all the tables have been pushed against the walls. She guessed that this must be a more practical lesson, and thus she placed her bag off to the side of the room and withdrew her wand. Recalling the previous lesson, she tried hard to remember the correct movements. She moved her wand hand in a clockwise motion, circling her wand twice and then flicked it three times, before pausing. After the pause, she gave two quick flicks and then raised the wand slowly up until it came back to rest. "Did I do it right, Professor?" Amelia asked nervously. |
Pauline took notes of the movement of the wand since she had accidently miss last class. She thought the wand movement was interesting and replayed the movement over and over again in her head waiting for the next thing to do. She had always loved Charms. |
Cassandra raised her hand "It's to keep your Diary secret, by password and thumbprint." |
Chloe was still trying to get the movements perfect, she didn't want anything to go wrong when they were allowd to actually practice the charm, and then she finally got it right on the like 20th try, "yes, i finally got it down perfect, now i just need to learn the incantation." Chloe was so crazy about getting the movements right, she didn't even hear her fellow students talking. |
Watching as the Professor repeated the wand movement, Ali pulled his wand out of his pocket and tried to imitate what Prof. Branxton was doing. Three circles, flick, hold, flick, he told himself, whilst repeating the movements with his wand. He then looked towards a fellow student as she answered the question. I should've known that, he thought to himself. |
Ryder was trying to scribble down notes. He nudged Cassandra in the side and whispered towards her. "Do you know everything" He smiled and continued writing things he heard. |
I have no idea thought Thump to himself as he waited for someone else to answer, hopefully a Ravvie. He couldent even believe that Prof. had the heart to teach while his children were running around the school missing. Willing to try though he raised his hand "To make your diary unable to be opend by anyone but yourself" he attempted. |

"Thank you," he said. A Slytherin actually being nice? Antwone found it utterly surprising. |

Professor Doyle wandered around the class a bit more before coming to stand in front of his desk. "Now we will learn the incantation. Clausaltus Obfirmo. It spoken during the pause between the two flicks and the long flick. Practice saying the words without your wand. Then, practice the timing of the incantation by moving your wrist but, without a wand. "Clow-sal-tus Ob-firm-o," he enunciated. |
Ryder wrote the incantation down on the paper in front of him. He then said "Clausaltus Obfirmo" hoping that he had said it right. His wand still inside his robes. He practiced the movement without his wand. |
Quote:
She pulled her wand out and took a notebook, using the wand movement, Three turns clockwise, then two slow flicks, pause, and one long flick she thought as she said "Clow-sal-tus Ob-firm-o." |
Antwone tried muttering the incantation under his breath. "Clow-sal-mus Ob-cirm-o." No that wasn't right. |
Christian mimicked the motion. In his head he repeated the movements. turn, turn, turn, flick flick, pause and flick. Doing that a few more times, he got the hang of it as though it were second nature. He paused for a moment, he wondered where his cat could have gotten to. He had been missing for a day or two. Maybe he's catching a mouse or something...he thought and went on to pray that the kitten wasn't getting himself in to trouble. He listened to Professor Branxton say the incantation, saying the pronunciation in his head as well. After a few run throughs in his mind, he muttered the incantation to himself. His accent through the pronunciation off slightly, but he finally figured it out. Christian placed his wand down and practised the whole ensemble. "Clausaltus Obfirmo" he muttered while doing the hand movements. His timing needed a slight bit of polishing, but nothing a little work couldn't handle. |

Amelia nodded at the Professor and laughed silently at her stupidity for mixing which you do twice or three times. She decided to try the motions again before practicing the incantations. Her wand hand moved clockwise three times, then she gave it two slow flicks, and paused before giving it one long flick. "Whew! I think I got it this time!" Setting her wand down on the table nearest her, she decided to practice saying the incantation a few times first, especially given her luck this year with charms. "Clas-alt-us Ob-firm-o" |
Mallory nodded and whispered the incantation to herself. "Clow-sal-tus Ob-firm-o....got it...okay." She practiced the movement once more. Her hand moved in a circular motion thrice and did two quick flicks. Now pause...Then she flicked it once more. Now what was it again? Glow salute of firmbo? no, that's not it...She tapped her head with the tip of her wand. Glow? no I think it was Close...yeah Clowsaltus....She racked her brain for the rest of the incantation. |
Antwone tried to do it all together. He sent his wand in a circular motion three times, flicked twice, paused, then flicked once more and said, "Clausaltus Obfirmo!" But nothing came out the tip of his wand. "Professor, is there something that's supposed to happen?" he asked with his hand raised. |
Ponessa gripped her wand lightly and thought through the movements as she performed them. Turn....turn, turn...flick flick..pause....flick! After a few moments practice she said the incantation-no wand, of course. "Clausaltus Obfirmo!" |
Cassandra shook her head watching the first year Ravenclaw with his wand. She wanted to test the notebook, but the Professor hadn't told them how to set the password... what would hers be... |
Clow-saltus...Ofrimo...OBFIRMO! That's it! Mallory clapped her hands together as she remembered the spell. She gripped her wand tight, and with the wandmovement practiced earlier, she tried doing it with the incantation. "Clausaltus Obfirmo" she stated. "I think that was right..." she said, covering the tip of her wand with her other hand. I'll have to try that spell on my journal tonight...she thought, smiling to herself. |
Jezz took out her wand and did the motion a few times before saying, "Clausaltus Obfirmo!" She wasn't sure if she had done it right becase she had no clue what was supposed to happen. Her note book still looked the same though. |
Ariana had been practising the wand movements for a very long time and was sure she had it right. Now for the hard part, saying the incantaton. She took a deep breath and began to mutter the spell under her breath "Clausaltus Obfirmo" Hm, it seemed difficult getting the oh sound right she thought frowning slightly as she put down her wand and began trying it out again. "Clow-sal-tus Ob-firm-o" she muttered quietly to herself, memorizing the incantation with every being of her soul. She kept repeating the word over in her mind, thinking she was finally ready to try it out. Picking up her wand, she swirled it three times in a circular pattern, than gave it two quick flicks, before pausing and ficking slowly. "Clausaltus Obfirmo" she said with a strong voice. Nothing seemed to happen, but she wasn't too surprised either, she had a feeling she messed up the wand movement again. |
Antwone looked again over to the older Slytherin girl and noticed her shaking her head at him. So that's why she answered my question! She wasn't helping me, she was showing me up. Still Antwone left his hand raised for the professor. |
Amelia shook her head sadly, that wasn't right... it just didn't seem right to her. why couldn't she think straight today? Must be that secret party she had coming up very shortly. She sighed, as she listened to Ariana say the correct spell. She smiled at her friend, and then tried to mimic her by sounding each syllable out carefully. "Clow-salt-tus Ob-firm-o" She shook her head again, knowing she added an extra letter in the first word. Her mind just was not with it today. |
Doyle raised his voice. "You should NOT be using your wands at this time. We are learning this charm in stages and we are not yet ready for the full spell. We haven't finished learning all there is to learn so, put your wands down and practice the timing with just your hand. "Clausaltus obfirmo," Professor Branxton incanted while demonstrating the wand motion with his empty hand). |
Jezz dropped her wand back into her bag. "Clausaltus obfirmo!" she said, doing the movements with no wand. She thought she had it down, but was unsure so she she kept practicing. Her headache was back though, and the bruise across her forehead was still slightly visible. |
Yikes! Antwone quickly stuffed his beech wand inside his robes and started practicing with his empty left hand. |
The professor's voice made Ponessa jump slightly, but then again, everything did. She continued practicing the incantation-she wanted to make sure no mistakes were made, "Clausaltus obfirmo, Clausaltus obfirmo..." She repeated softly. |
Ariana chided herself as she put her wand away in her pocket, silently fuming. Shaking her head again, she tried saying the correct enunciation of the spell "Clausaltus obfirmo." she repeated silently to herself, concentrating on her and no one else. She was going to pay attention if it hurt she thought with a nod as she practised. "Clausaltus obfirmo." she said again, not looking in any direction but in front of her, feeling her self-confidence lower even further. She was having a horrible day. |
Mallory quickly pocketed her wand, and began practicing the movement once again. Clausaltus Obfirmo...she repeated over and over in her mind, as to not to forget. |
Esmeralda put her wand down and without the wand, she said "Clausaltus obfirmo!" quite clearly. "I think I got this." she muttered. |
The loudness in the Professor's voice made Amelia jump, even though her wand was still on the desk near her. No wonder his children were missing; they were probably scared of their father's wrath. She silently chuckled to herself, sighing, and then tried again with the incantation. "Clow-sal-tus Obturator" She shook her head again, that last word definitely it isn't right, but what was the second word? Amelia racked her brain, but could not think of anything but random muscles and nerves. She totally was going to be a healer when she graduated. |
Once Ari had the saying right, she went back to praactising the wand movement with a quill, knowing nothing could happen with a quill. Waving the quill in a circle three times, she than proceeded to flick twice before pausing, than gave a long slow flick upwards, still not quite absolute on the ending. Her quill slipped from her fingers and she stooped to pick it up, shaking her head at her clumisness. Trying again, she tried again, circling her "wand" three times before giving two quick flicks, a pause and another slow flick upwards, while saying "Clausaltus obfirmo" over and over. |
Lauren took a breath after practicing the wand movement with an empty hand in conjuction with the incantation. It was hard for some reason to do both at once and, because of that, she was glad they hadn't been allowed to use their wands yet. Gathering up more motivation {yes, Lauren, you will be able to do this - just practice!}, Lauren swirled her wrist clockwise three times, round and round and round, then used her wrist to make her clenched hand {which was still wandless} create two quick, sharp flicks. She paused, then recited, "Clau-sal-tus Ob-firm-o!" Then she finished with one final, flourishing flick of her hand. She smiled slightly - she didn't think that one went too poorly. Still, she pushed the sleeve of her robes out of the way, closed her hand as if she were holding an invisible wand, and began again. |
Amelia listened in on her classmates practicing the spell, hoping that it would trigger something in her memory as to what the second word was. Obfirmo. Of course it is. She then recited the full phrase before she confused herself again, "Clausaltus Obfirmo. Clausaltus Obfirmo." She grinned broadly, knowing she finally got the incantation down; well, at least she thought she did. |
Professor Branxton took a seat behind his desk, removed his glasses and held them loosely in his hand as his elbow rested on the desk. He rubbed his eyes and then put his other elbow on the desk as well, bowing his head, supporting it in his hands. He needed to find his children. He hated being in here teaching when he should be out looking for them. |
After a lot of practice of the spell Agie believed that she had mastered it. She noticed that the professor look really down so she went over and asked "Is everything alright , professor?" |
Clausaltus obfir- what? This ones odd.. Thump closed his eyes and took a deep breath, shutting out and ignoring mess of mis-pronunciations around him. Raising his empty hand and going through the memorized movements once more he attempted the spell again only letting it out in a small murmor to himself. "Clausaltus obfirmo..Clausaltus obfirmo.." he repeated over and over timing it with his wand movements. He smiled to himself and lowered his hand. Cracking open an eyelid and looking around at the rest of the class he chanced a look at the Prof. again. "Man Branxton sure is looking rough...this whole kid thing must be a pain...clearly someone needs to invent some sort of wizard leash spell or something" he said quietly to himself with a bit of irony "If I had any idea id offer to help look for them but-...ehh..maybe I will..after the lesson...or at least go talk to him. Parents im sure tend to beat themselves up when stuff like this happens" he mulled over before opening the rest of his eyes and turning back to the class waiting for further instructions. |
Christian kept doing the movement. In his head was turn, turn turn, flick, flick, pause, and flick. While muttering the spell. Every know and then he messed up the incantation, but he kept trying. Usually he'd be annoyed by now, but he was actually pretty cool. He just wished he knew where his cat was. He took a mental break and saw that professor dude needed a break of his own. He gave the professor dude an encouraging smile and went back to practising the movement and spell. Without really paying attention, he did the movement (turn, turn, turn, flick, flick, pause, flick) and said the incantation (Causaltus Obfirmo) with awesome timing. Score. |
Eternal wiggled in her seat, thinking about how Braxton's babies were missing. They needed to find them. She heard some noises on the Sixth floor, but it couldn't have been the babies. She shrugged and looked over at a fellow Ravenclaw that was talking about the subject she had just been thinking about. "That would be nice, for you to talk to him. Be reassuring." She nodded while smiling. |
Pauline used her finger as a wand and did the motions while saying the spell. "Clausaltus obfirmo" she said and hoped what she was doing right, but really she wouldn't know until she got to use her wand. She would not use it though cause testing Proffesor Braxton would put her in great danger of his wrath and she preferred not to be in that direct line of path. She continued praticing until he gave the next instructions. As she waited she noticed not many people were in this class. Maybe that was why he wasn'y saying much. |
Christian train of concentration was broken was a hufflepuff suddenly burst into the room. Great...right when I was getting the hang of it..., he thought and gave the hufflepuff and look of pure loathing. He joined in with the other two Ravenclaws, "She's right. He looks like he could use a nice pep talk." He said while practising the routine once again. |
Qaz kept trying to perform the charm. 'Clausaltus Obfirmo' with the wrist movement. It reminded her to much of conducting the flutophone band last yeaer in her muggle school. |
Quote:
Doyle moved into the center of the room and conjured a table with a book. He began the wand movement as he started the spell. Three turns of his wrist and two flicks, the second flick tapping the very tip of his wand on the book. "Clausaltus obfirmo," incanted on the pause, a small flash of white issuing from his wand and then, he tapped the book again as he began the slow flick. As he raised his wand slowly upwards he said, "Open sesame," and the white light which connected his wand and the book broke and seemed to be absorbed by the book. Professor Branxton demonstrated the success of the charm by reaching over to open the book. It remained closed until he said the password; only then was he able to flip through the pages. "Timing is everything. I suggest practicing without wands or books and once you are ready, try it on something you won't mind ruining. If this spell goes wrong you can end up with anything from a vanished book to one that will never open again to any number of other possible unwanted outcomes." |
Austin practiced the movement, muttering "Clausaltus Obfirmo". He watched the other students who seemed to be getting the hand of the incantation, but he still muttered because he felt foolish if he did something incorrect. He waited to see if the other students where going to try the entire spell. |
Qaz hadn't realized she'd need an old book to practice on. She dug through her bag and pulled out a book of crossword puzzles. She had been to busy to do them anyway. She set the book in front of her and prepared herself. She picked up her wand and went round and round and round. Down once and down again saying, 'Clausaltus obfirmo,' tapping the book...and nothing happened. She was sure that the light came at this point. She must have done something wrong, but what??? She grabbed her notes to see if she could figure out what she was doing wrong... |
Christian watched the professor do the counter charm. Honestly, this was the only class he had really ever payed attention in. It was interesting. Not to mention it was good way to lock his chain and earring case up in the common room. He followed what the professor dude had done without his wand. After a few tries, he put the whole thing together. Practising the locking charm and the way to open it, he couldn't help but think about his kitten. They had never been separated before, not for this long. He couldn't help but worry that something wrong had happened to his little fuzzball. This through his game off, he couldn't really concentrate on the charms, thereby doing them halfheartedly. Good thing he wasn't using his wand yet. |
Qaz couldn't figure out what she was doing wrong. Try again...she picked up her wand and went around once, around twice and around a third time. Flick once and flick again tapping the book and saying, 'Clausaltus obfirmo.' Again, nothing happened. She was getting so frustrated. She was terrible with a wand. She picked up her notes and started reading again... |
Christian saw a girl getting frustrated. He watched her for a second. He approached her and said, "I think you're missing a pause and then another flick."He paused. "I think. I forgot to take notes." He laughed a little. "But I'm pretty sure is 3 turns, 2 flicks, pause and one last flick." |
Couleia took a deep breathe. "Clausaltus Obfirmo," she said loud and clear as she moved her wand in three circles, finishing with two flicks, a pause, and a final flick. It was safe to say at this point that she had gotten that part down, but she always felt doing it a few times more could perfect the flaws she might've still had. As she practiced her wand movement, she looked at her things in front of her, deciding which object to test the complete spell on. |
Quote:
'I think you're right about the number of flicks, but I'm sure that a white light came out of his wand when he tapped the book on the second downward motion and stayed through the third flick. I can't seem to get the light on the tap...so I've never followed through with the third slow flick. I don't know, maybe all of this studying is getting to me....seeing things that aren't there.' Qaz answered, looking rather sheepish. |
After practicing the movements and the incantation, Austin nervously picked up his wand. He procedded to shuffle through his bag to find a very worn out wordsearch book that he hadnt used in quiet some time. He sighed and began to try the spell on his book, but to no avail. Following a few minutes of mistakes, he went back to his notes to see what he was doing wrong. |
Qaz saw the Ravenclaw that had tried to help her pull out a puzzle book. Well, if he gets it to work, at least I'll know that the charm doesn't have an aversion to puzzle books. She watched as the others for a while, hoping that it would give her some confidence. |
Couleia sighed. She looked into her bookbag a third time, though she knew it was no use. The only books she had were her school books she couldn't afford to ruin. She began to think of a way to use what they had learned in both Charms and Transfiguration to somehow create a book she could use out of something she didn't mind ruining, but she only drew blanks. |
Qaz walked up to the boy that had tried to help her. 'Do you think that we're not having any luck because we're both using puzzle books? It looks like you're doing the right wand movements that I am. What else could it be?' she asked. |
"are you talking to me?" austin said as he turned around. "well anyway if you were i dont think it had to do with the type of book its more in the timming of the movment and the incantation" |
Couleia finally gave up her search in her head for an answer to her lack of supply and raised her hand. "Excuse me, Mr. Branxton...do you happen to have an extra book I could test the spell with? I didn't realize we'd need one, I'm so sorry," she asked apologetically. |
Qaz backed off. If she'd known his name, she would have used it. Oh well, this was not her day. She tried once again. Picking up her wand, she went through the movements circle back once, circle back twice and circle back a third time. Flick once and flick again tapping the book and saying, 'Clausaltus obfirmo.' This time the light appeared, catching her off guard. She tapped the book again, and while she raised her hand slowly, she said, 'Kaploch' then watched as the light seemed to seep into the book. Qaz just looked at her book in disbelief. |
Jesse grinned modestly as he praticed saying the incantation, in truth he had already read about it in his Charms book and although he had never tried it he knew the basic idea of it, Jesse took a deep calming breath and then gave his wand three slow turns and two quick flicks a short puase and one final flick, "Clausaltus Obfirmo" Jesse whispered (He felt reather silly saying it too loudly), The tip of his wand glowed for a fraction of a second and then the light went out. He smiled slightly at his brand new diary that his auntie had gotten him and then as he was just about ready to give up but decided to try once more, Jesse took another deep breath, gave his wand three turns and two short flicks the second flick tapping the very tip of the book a small flash of white light appeared at the tip of his wand and kind've stood there waiting for the next step, Jesse waited a second then gave one final flick and said loudly "Clausaltus Obfirmo!!" As he said it the white light reached out toward the brand new diary untill the two were connected by the stream of white. Jesse slowly raised his wand upward and said in a low voice so that nobody would hear him, "Chess" as he said it the light seemed to disappear into the diary. Jesse grinned and then with nervous fingers tried to pry the book open, to his extreme pleasure it would not open no matter what he did. Jesse grinned even more broadly and then said the password, it finnaly opened and Jesse raised his hand and looked over to Professor Branxton who seemed very upset. |

Jesse continued practiceing the spell, even though he had got it right he still figured that it wouldn't hurt to keep trying, Jesse looked down the row of chairs and toward a group of three students (two girls in his year and a boy whome he had never seen) who were talking, he frowned slightly as he didn't approve of talking during classes, one of the people in perticular had caught his attention, it was the other girl who had almost performed the charm but had failed at the last minute, Jesse had never payed much attention to girls but somehow he couldn't help noticeing this one, She had strawberry blond hair and when she looked toward the girl next to her he was able to see a pair of big blue eye's, Jesse smiled nervously and slowly continued with his spell work, he silently hoped that the three of them would stop talking and get bac to work before long, if not they would proably get into trouble. |

Qaz smiled at Couleia. She certainly knew that feeling. It sure was nice of the other boy to lend her his book. Back to the matter at hand. She whispered her password and her book opened right up. She figured she better try it again...make sure the first one wasn't just luck. She brought her wand to the ready and went through the movements: circle back once, circle back twice and circle back a third time. Flick once and flick again tapping the book and saying, 'Clausaltus obfirmo.' Once again the light appeared. This time she was more prepared. She tapped the book again, and while she raised her hand slowly, she whispered, 'HiJinx' then watched as the light sank into the book. Her cat would be pleased to know she'd used his name as the password. |
"Clausaltus Obfirmo. Clausaltus Obfirmo." After repeating a few more times, she rummaged through her schoolbag, checking if there were any items that were useful. Suddenly, a question came popping into her thoughts. Unable to resist her curiosity, Mindy raised her hand and asked, "Professor Branxton, are there different passwords for different diaries? Do they all have to be Open Sesame?" |
Couleia took one last concentrated breath before picking up her wand. One circle, two, three...one flick, and two... finally, she said clearly as she tapped the book, "Clausaltus obfirmo." After watching several others who had succeeded with the charm before her, she knew at once that the light coming from her wand was a sign of success. Tapping the book again, she said in a low, but still clearly spoken voice, "Paulseph." She had decided on her older brother's name since they were the closest. Her eyes sparkled and a big smile appeared on her face as she realized it had worked, and the generous boy's book had gone unruined. |
Qaz saw Couleia get her charm to work. She gave her a big smile and a thunbs up. They'd been doing a fair amount of talking and she didn't want to push it. |

Christian figured that it was time for a real test. He rifled through his bag and found one of his old notebooks. There really wasn't anything special in this book. Actaully, there was, but he was way more than happy to screw up and have the book locked forever. Holding the book in his hand, he did the routine and timed the incantation. The white light shined and he knew that it had worked. Seeing if it really was all goood, he said "open sesame." The book unlocked and he was allowed to turn the pages. |

Antwone took his empty hand and waved his hand for the final time in three circles, two flicks, followed by one long flick and said the incantation clearly. "Clausaltus Obfirmo!" he smiled to himself and noticed other students asking about the professor and if he was alright. Questions like that should be left for after class. Antwone looked to the professor who was giving more instructions and handing out books. "Does this mean we can use our wands now? Try it out with the notebooks and all?" Antwone asked as he picked up a notebook and flipped through the pages within them. Wonder what sort of password I should use? He looked up to the professor and waited for an answer with his notebook in both hands. |
Mary took out her wand and gave it three turns and two quick flicks, the second flick tapping the brand new book which was plain.A small flash of white light appeared at the tip of her wand. She gave one final flick and muttered 'Clausaltus Obfirmo'. The white light reached towards the book and touched it gently.Mary said in a soft and low voice, 'Ju McKenzie Laurence'. The light disappeared into the book.Mary smiled and tried to open the book.No go.Yes, she thought.I made it. Mary said the password, so softly that she was doubtful even the book could hear it.The book opened and Mary smiled. She had got it right. |
Once Amelia was sure that she knew the incantation and the motions, she decided to practice them together - still without her wand. She moved her wand hand three times around, gave it two flicks, and then paused. I think this is where I say the incantation.... "Clavicularus Obfirmo" And after she said the incantation, she gave her hand another long flick before raising her hand slowly back to rest. Wait... no. I think I said the word wrong. She looked towards the Professor, "Erm. what did I just say exactly? I keep mixing up random bones, muscles and nerves with my incantations." Amelia laughed, and knew right then, that she really was going to be a healer. |
Ariana gulped nervously as she watched Professors Baxton and wrote a small note in her notebook before walking up to hisdesk and taking a blank notebook. That was all she needed; to ruin her notebook. Walking ack to her spot, she put down the notebook and continued practising. She found it hard to concentrate however, she knew something was bothering the professor, probably the missing children she had heard about. Taking a deep breath to keep her emotional block up she continued to practice. "Three turns...then two short flicks..." she muttered as she moved hre hand around, trying to get the movemtns down. As she went for the pause and short flick up she felt a strange emotion, but shook it off. Getting back to work she continued doing the wand movements with her hand as she said the incantation. "Clavicularus Obfirmo" no that wasn't right... "Clausaltus Obfirmo" "Ok, I think I got it." She said aloud as she bent down to pick up her wand. Feeling slightly nervous now she took a deep breath and started. First she turned her wand three times in her hand, and made two quick flicks as her wand tip touched the notebook and as she said the incantation during the small pause "Clausaltus Obfirmo" she watched happily as a white light seemed to emanate from the tip as she brought the wand tip down for a short flick she said her password. Nervously she watched as the white light seemed to be absorbed by the book. Placing her wand in her pocket, she picked up the book. It still felt normal, no missing parts and no added weight. "Hey, I think I did it!" she said happily to herself as she tried to open the book without success. She looked around and noticed Amelia was having problems. Walking over, she asked, "Need some help?" as she stopped and nodded towards her wand. |

Caitlin was nervous about trying the charm. Charms, in the first place, was not a strong subject for her. Now, she was stuck trying to do a more complex one when she was lucky that she could even levitate things. Sighing, she decided to give it a try. After all, what could she loose? But at the same time, she really just wanted to sit in the back of the classroom and think about the event that they'd hosted the day before. It had, ultimatley, been an amazing success. Tons of people had shown up by the lake and they possibly even had some new SSers. Taking her mind off of that, she decided to focus on the task at hand. She turned the wand three times in her hand - and then promptly dropped it. "Dang it," she muttered, and tried again. This time, she didn't drop it - though she almost hit the person next to her - so she quickly and eagerly made two fask flicks and said, "Clausaltus Obfirmo!" However, no white light connected to her diary. Stumped, Caitlin decided to give up for a few minutes. She sat back down in her chair and pondered over the Secret Society's next move. Once she'd done so, she stood back up and decided to try again. |
Mary saw a girl trying hard to do the spell. She went over to her and said. 'Hello.Need some help?I could help you with what I know.' she said kindly, in her soft voice. Her blue eyes sparkled as she looked at the girl who was almost in her fifth year. |
Amelia's arm felt all tingly from being in the air so long. The Professor really was in another world today, since he seemed to be ignoring some of his students. This was understandable with his children missing and all that, but why doesn't he just end class early so he could go look for them - that's what she would do. Then Ariana's question to her startled her, and she put her hand down, all flustered, "Wha-? Oh yes Ari, I seem to have trouble remembering this incantation." For some reason, she didn't want to tell her Ravenclaw friend of her issues with using medical terms. It was kind of embarrassing for her to already have a career in mind, when she was only a third year. |
Caitlin grinned. Was that first year honestly trying to help her? Caitlin was in her sixth year! After giggling a good bit, she decided she had nothing to loose by seeing someone else perform the charm. However, whether or not she wanted this midget to show her was what she was questioning. Deciding that she'd never really be a person much into Charms anyway (she was more of the Quidditch type), Caitlin nodded and said, "Sure, why not? Show me what you've got." She stepped back and laughed a little to herself, hoping more than anything that this girl could help her out. What sixth year would want to fail Charms while a midget passed? |

"You'll get it, just keep trying. It looks like you have the wand movements down." she added, encouragingly. |
Thump attempted the spell, going through the motions, wand in hand but without saying a word. When he got the part where he should input his password he stopped sudden and opened his eyes. Ughhh.....what to put as a password? He thought to himself eyes blinking... I suppose I could use "keyblade"...that opens everything doesent it? He re-tried the spell, over and over making sure to get it down in muscle memory. Alright let me get a notebook and he made his way to the the desk retrieving a notebook and began practicing a bit more on it going through the wordless motions. |
Amelia listened to her friend explain about the different syllables within the incantation. She blushed slightly when she heard that Ari had noticed her saying 'Clavic'. However, she wasn't entirely sure why she couldn't get this spell right because she had no trouble with the floating charm. Perhaps she was feeding off of Professor Branxton's anxieties. She took a deep breath and tried saying the incantation again, "Clow-sal-tus Ob-firm-o. Clausaltus Obfirmo." She smiled, knowing that she had said it correctly that time, but then frowned at her friend. "See that's the problem. I can remember the incantation separately, but when I try to combine it with the wand motions, then my thoughts get all jumbled up and I lose focus." |
Lexi took a deep breath. "Clousaltus Obfirmo", she thought to herself. "Clousaltus Obfirmo", she said. She waited for the spell to work and then realized, she didn't have her wand out. She turned red as she looked over at Amelia. "Ooops", she whispered. |
Ariana nodded, understanding. "I had the same problem actually, at first." she said chuckling slightly. "What I do is concentrate on nothing more than my wand and the incantation. I drown out everything else around me." she said, explaining. "Than I do the mtoions and the incantation just seems to come out correctly." She looked at Amelia and thought that she was too busy concentrating on something else. "Just take a deep breath to clear your mind, then try it." She said with a smile. |
Amelia looked over at Lexi and just laughed. "Silly girl, you have to practice the incantation with the wand motions first. Then you can use the wand. Ari here is a rather good teacher." She smiled at Ari and then turned her focus to what she was saying. "Clear my mind? okay. I think I could do that." Amelia said fervently, though she knew it was a lie because clearing her mind was always the toughest part of any task she did. Even quidditch, Evan always told them to clear their mind before a game, but she always had trouble with that. She closed her eyes and just imagined a beautiful horizon, with nothing else around her. She felt in complete solitude and all she could think of was the wand motion and incantation. Opening her eyes, she smiled peacefully, "okay, I'm good now." She then felt her hand move clockwise three times, and her wrist gave two quick flicks. Without even thinking about anything else, the words emerged from her mouth, "Clausaltus Obfirmo." Shortly after, her hand gave a long flick and then raised slowly back up to rest. |
Lexi giggled, "I knew that of course Amelia!" She stuck her tongue out at her. "I think I got it now though. But all tips are welcome, Ari was your name?" She looked at the Ravenclaw girl when she said this last part. Lexi rummaged through her bag for her wand and an empty notebook that she could practice with. I know I have a notebook in here, she thought to herself. She stood up and then pulled her long hair back. Ok, maybe now I can see, she teased herself. Lexi pulled out her wand and then after shifting through the rest of her mess, she pulled out an old, never used, notebook. Clousaltus Obfirmo!, she thought to herself over and over again. When she thought she was ready, she sat the notebook down in front of her. She took a deep breath and picked up her wand. Lexi then turned her wrist once, twice, and then a third time. Then two quick flicks and she said "Clousaltus Obfirmo!" during a pause and then she said "Hufflepuff" as she started the last flick. But there was something wrong, there had been no light. She must've gotten the timing wrong. Lexi sighed and slid down the wall to sit down and comtemplate what she had done wrong. |
Qaz whispered her password and her book opened right up. One more time for good measure. She brought her wand to the ready and went through the movements: circle back once, circle back twice and circle back a third time. Flick once and flick again tapping the book and saying, 'Clausaltus obfirmo.' The light appeared. She tapped the book again, and while she raised her hand slowly, she whispered, '********' then watched as the seeped into the book. 'That's three in a row,' she thought to herself. After the disasterous way she started, she was very pleased with herself. 'That was a very difficult charm, and I did it!' She blushed at the thought. She knew she shouldn't think like that...such arrogance...but she was terrible with a wand, and she was so happy to get it right... |
Ari grinned happily. "You did it!" she said cheerfully. Now the part for sying the password. "You remember how to do the password part? You have to do it when you see the white light emerge from your wand, but before the long flick at the end." she instructed, smiling. She looked over at the other girl and grinned, "You'll get it, you were really close." she said, encouraging her. |
Lexi looked at the Ravenclaw girl and smiled back. "I'm Lexi by the way," she said. She continued practicing the wand motions along with the incantation. Three turns of the wrist, two quick flicks, pause and say Clausaltus Obfirmo, say the password when white light emerges, and long flick. She went over this process over and over again in her head. |
