Emily raised her hand. "Perhaps it is used in love potions?"

Bucky was trying to pay attention to the class but seriously plants were boring and confusing and she hadn't even guessed the answer properly. Sighing she felt a tugging from underneath the table. Glancing down with a frown she caught Tag pulling a string which was slowly growing longer.

"What are you doing?" She whispered buy keeping her eye on Professor Erikson.

She didn't want a detention herself because Tag was messing with her from underneath the table. Her eyes grew wide when she thought of what would people think.

Did you hear about Bucky?

Oh yes! She got a detention because she was messing with the Ravenclaw prefect underneath the table instead of paying attention to class!

Really? How embarrassing!

Blushing slightly and swatting Tag away she shook her head.
"Aren't you coming out?" She hissed in panic. "People might think...just come out already!"

Jasmine wrote notes as fast as she could, embarressed at her puny answers compared to everyone else's in depth ones. She was still amazed she had gotten 3 points earlier!

He laughed slightly. "Well, of course Italy my dear boy. Where do you think Rome is?"


"Ah, yes. That's exactly it! Two points, Kennedy." He nodded. "Remus and Romulus are said to have been raised by La Lupa, the wolf. Anyone know the legend? What's odd about the legend as it pertains to this plant's name?"

Harry said"Were they were nurtured underneath a fig-tree or the amore fraterno plant and were fed by a woodpecker. Both animals were sacred to Mars." being a bit unsure of his answer.

"I know a little bit of the legend. Maybe that they founded Rome together. The love of the brothers." Cora said unsuringly.

"Well Romulus killed Remus over the city of Rome so that is opposite of brotherly love?"

Kerry raised her hand, "I'm not sure but I remember something about a fig tree where the twins washed up against called lupercal....I believe that plant is associated with love, but what the background to the story is I'm not quiet sure."

Ariana had no clue whatsoever about this legend she hadn't even heard of Remus of Romulus, so sat back and took notes as other replied. She would have to read up on it later she decided as she watched and listened.

Vince got a parchment, also getting out his quill. He wrote many interesting things down, trying to be very neat, so he could read it later. Hearing the next question, he stopped writing and sighed. He was kind of embarrased to hear the response from the professor. "Wasn't that wolf... a wolf goddes?" he asked, wondering if that was even an answer or not. "So, is it because of the love of the brothers?"

Kerry raised her hand after thinking a minute, "Oh wait..isn't that the plant the the shewolf nursed the two with and raised them to health and therefore it was named after them!"

Kennedy had similar answers to the other students so she didn't repeat them, but she did add, 'Isn't it also somewhat ironic that they were fathered by Mars, the god of war, which is most definitely the opposite of brotherly love for one's people."

He nodded. "Quite right. While the brothers did build Rome, Romulus killed his brother. Two points, my dear."

He spread his hands over the seeds. "You see, these plants are about how you raise them. What you do will directly affect what the plant looks like. It will always have the same basic structure, but you can tell a lot about how well it was raised by looking at it. These brothers did great things together, but in the end it was an act of murder that separated them, from one to the other. These plants, likewise, cannot die from neglect. It takes purposeful action to kill them."

He brought up three plants. They looked very similar, though one had broad leaves, as though it'd grown in the rainforest. One looked like it could have come from any forest around England. The last had very narrow leaves, and a waxy coating. "What do you think was the difference in raising these three plants?"

"They were raised the same? Just like Romulus and Remus?" Beck rasied her hand,she was guessing trying to remeber the mythology, she loved when her classes had something to do with mythology!

"Perhaps the difference in temperatures and amount of rainfall they received where they were grown. Warm temperatures and sufficient rain may produce larger leaves, while a cold harsh climate may produce a less full plant. Varying effects of Mother Nature's love..." Kennedy offered.

Vince looked at the others, writing more answers on his parchment with his quill. Herbology was going to be a very fun class, studying about plants and also many other things that made it fun. He heard the next question, scratching his head. This was a difficult one, but instead of not knowing the answer, he raised his hand. "Uh... um.." he said, wondering about the answer. "Each had a different adaptation." he said.

"The one that looks like came form the rainforest got the most amount of love, the one that looks like it came from England got a fair amount of love, and the last one probably got very little or not love." Cora said.

Kerry raised her hand, this class was certainly making her think, "We'll as you said it take purposeful neglect to kill these plants, so they really need a lot of lover to thrive...hence their name origin. I think the one in the rainforest had plenty of water, perhaps even a suptle amount of sunlight in the breaks of the canopy of the rainforest. The second one, seems that perhaps it didn't have as much nutrients to help it flourish within the forests of England, much drier than what we'd see in a rainforest, but still getting a fair amount of water. "The last one looks like it developed a waxy coating to protect itself from the lack of rain all together so it wouldn't wilt and die."

Ariana thought about it for a few minutes before replying, "The one that has broad leaves looks like it was grown in a wet enviornent, with little light and love maybe, the one with the waxy coating on its leaves could have been grown with a little water and sunlight and love, and proper fertilizer. the last one, I'm not sure about...." she quirked an eyebrow, thinking hard.

Linda thought for a moment, "The broad-leaved plant was cared for with love, the average one could have been cared for but not with love presicely and the narrow one could have been tended to but it could have been treated like a burden. Could the waxy coating be like a sheild of some sort?" Linda asked. It struck her as strange for it to be the only one to have it. "I think the plants are almost the same but only the amont of love changed."

He grinned. "Very good, Kerry! Yes, the first had an alarming amount of water, which really needed to go somewhere, and so it grew broad leaves. The middle one actually had a decent amount of water. The type a houseplant normally requires. The last was lacking water, and so needed to protect itself from losing it. Amazing little plant, isn't it? Two points, dear."

He chuckled. "The middle one here is my example of the perfect care taken with house plants, and most garden plants. It's just the right amount of attention that it needs."

He put down the one with the broad leaves and the one with the thin leaves then pulled up two more. This time, one was pale and slightly grayish, only a little bit of green showing. It was also spread out quite a bit, and seemed rather viney. The other was a bright green, standing straighter than the "normal" plant. "Can someone tell the difference in care with these plants?"

Vince looked at his parchment, continuing to write many answers. The questions he said would probably in homework, wanting to earn many points for his house. He wrote many more things, the black ink very visible. The next question had been said. He raised his hand and said, "The one that is gray was probably treated without care, so no light, water, or nutrients were given to it. The second one was treated with much care, getting all of its needs."

"The one that is pale and greyish had very little sunlight and the one the is green had plenty of sunlight. Photosythesis causes the plant to have a greenish color." Cora told the Professor.

Kerry smiled at the awarding of points, "I would agree with Jasmine when she said the color has something to do with the plants. In this case I think the grayish plant had little sunlight, perhaps this too dried up the soil and lowered the nutrient levels the plant was able to obtain. The second one, clearly flurishing was cared for in just the opposite way, with plenty of sunlight, nutrients and water, hence why it's so bright green, tall and healthy.
