DADA Lesson 2: Creature Feature

Rae sat in the classroom for a long while before class finally started. The weather was bitterly cold, and she cast the same high fires in the classroom fireplaces as she had in the nursery. She tucked her hands into fur-lined pockets before returning to her seat to take up a cup of hot hot hot cocoa. She was cold, but it was more psychological than physical. She missed Doyle, and seeing others so happy made it all the worse.

Ashley walked into the DADA classroom. noone was there yet but she knew that they would be there soon. She took a seat and waited for class to begin

Kennedy noticed the classroom door to the DADA room was open and so she stepped in. There she found the Headmistress sipping on hot chocolate and sitting by the large classroom fires. Kennedy greeted her politely, "Good afternoon ma'am. How are you today?" As she spoke, Kennedy took a seat at the front of the room and began withdrawing supplies for the lesson from her tote bag - a self-inking quill, parchment, and her textbook. She awaited the start of the lesson.

Cecilia walked into the classroom, "Hi professor!" She said and sat down in a front seat, she took out her quill, book and new parchment notebook. She was ready for class to begin.

Aurora walked in to the room with Kennedy. The first thing she notice was how cold it was in there. "Good day, Professor Rae. Are you well this afternoon?"
Aurora took a seat with Kennedy and leaned over to whisper<" I hope we dont need wands today. Still want that pillow?"
Aurora felt bad that she had thrown her freind across the room in the dueling arena and she landed on her rump.

Alexis walked into the DADA room and looked around. "Hello Professor Rae." She said with a smile, then she sat down and waited for class to begin.

Ariana entered the classroom, hoping for an easy lesson. She was still a bit shaken up over last night, but she wasn't ging to let it bother her at all. Taking a seat near the middle of the class, she smiled slightly at the professor and said, "Hello professor." as she took out her quill and parchment, and textbook, ready to begin.

Celestina rubbed her forehead as she entered the classroom. Her head was threatening to split open and swallow everything in the vicinity much like Jamie's mouth when food was near. The room was warm which was nice if it wasn't that Bucky seemed to be too warm for the past days. Professor Rae didn't seem to be fairing well and Celestina thought back to her latest Ancient Runes lesson....

Hopefully Rae wouldn't be fainting at the end either. Bucky wasn't carrying around Ingwaz nor Fehu with her.

Kerry entered the classroom and found a seat at the back of the classroom and sat quietly. She wondered to herself what crazy things this lesson might be, as she took out her quill and parchment and readied for the class to begin.

"Um, Professor? I have a problem. You see in the dueling Arnea, my wand got snapped in half. "
Aurora shot a smirky grin at her friend KK.
" I can do quite well with out it it though. Will that be a problem? " Aurora kind of wanted to show off her skills from home but no one had seen that kind of magic before.

Half-Blood_Cass 04-10-2007 10:31 PM

Cassandra entered the classroom, seeing a few studetns already there. "Hello Professor, have a nice day so far?" She asked while passing the Headmistress. She took a seat around the middle and sat down. She took out her parchment, textbook, Quill, and ink. She looked aorund the room, waiting for class to start.

Cassirin 04-10-2007 10:33 PM

"I'm... well, thank you," she nodded at the students as they entered the room before addressing the question at hand.

"You won't be able to participate in the practical portion, and I suggest you owl for a new one immediately. But you should fare well enough in the discussion portion of the class. Let's wait a few more minutes for your classmates, and then we'll begin."

Kennedy raised her hand hesitantly, "Ma'am, how often does a student come through Hogwarts with the ability to cast spells without a wand? Because when Aurora and I were in the dueling arena, she cast a spell without a wand but with some sort of 'energy.' I don't know how to describe it really. All I know is she sent me across the room! It was bizarre."

Shakila strolled into the DADA classroom grinning mischievously as usual. Her robes was still slightly to big for her and she stepped on the hem of it. She tripped and fell over in front of the door. A dung bomb and a few firecrackers fell from her pocket that was packed with other joke items. "Oww.." she groaned.

Torie walked into the DADA classroom. She enjoyed this subject immensely and so was looking forward to a new lesson. She picked a seat near the front of the classroom and began taking out her books and supplies. Putting them on the table in front of her, she smiled happily. She opened her robes and withdrew her wand from her inside pocket. This too she placed on the desk. Having finished with her preparations, she looked up at Professor Rae in expectation.

"Most witches and wizards can develop that ability." She flicked her wand hand and a piece of chalk drew a ridiculous smiling face on the blackboard. "But it is an advanced skill, and I think you and Aurora both shouldn't attempt to delve into it without a professor's guidance. It is a fifth or sixth year skill, and those who are younger don't have enough grip on their power to go off the wand. The wand acts as a focus, helping you to figure out how to use the power you have."

"Yes ma'am. Thank you for explaining that." Kennedy looked at Aurora with a look that said, "Please don't ever try to cast a spell on me again without a wand" but with a friendly smile, of course.

Shakila put everything back into her pocket and quickly got to her feet. Not really caring that she fell. She walked over to a seat toward the back of the room. Taking out a few piece of rolled up parchment and a quill that she also had stuffed in one of her pocket. Glad that they could hold more then normal pockets. Waiting for the class to start.

AuroraRissa 04-10-2007 10:53 PM

"Well, Professor, would you like to see?"
Aurora held her wand and open. She thought for a minute and said "Orchideus" An orb appeared and then it turned into flowers.

"For you Professor," and she handed her the flowers.

Cassirin 04-10-2007 10:57 PM

Rae smiled tightly and put the roses on her desk. "That's very nice, my dear. Let's get started on today's lesson, and perhaps you and I can discuss this another time."

She held out her hand, and the chalk stopped it's doodling and flew back to her. "Last time, we started a discussion about the different dangers you will face in the Wizarding World. Specifically, we discussed Dark Objects and how to identify them. We also went over my memory device for approaching a dangerous situation. Can anyone tell me what it was and what each letter stands for?"

OOC: Please remember that only the first person will get credit, so there's no need to repeat what someone has already said :).

Kerry raised her hand, I believe it was called SOAR, which stands for Surroundings, Opponent, Abilities, and Resources," she said biting her lip hoping she was right.

AuroraRissa 04-10-2007 10:59 PM

"Professor, That would be S.O.A.R, =Surroundings. Opponent. Abilities. Resources" Aurora raised her hand as she spoke

lemondrop13 04-10-2007 11:00 PM

"The memory device was S.O.A.R. SUrroundings - Opponent-Abilities and Resources. The spell for dark detection was Apenbarria." Kennedy answered.

Ama 04-10-2007 11:00 PM

Riiiiiiight.

Bucky scribbled a note in the corner of her parchment. Memo to Self: Stay away from Ravenclaw girls. Professor Rae began the lesson and Bucky scratched her cheek thoughtfully with the feather of her quill. It was S.O.A.R. or so she thought but for the life of her she couldn't recall what the letters stood for. Or was it even that?

marfamarfa 04-10-2007 11:02 PM

Torie flipped back to her notes from last class and located the aconym Professor Rae had taught them. Unfortunately, many of her classmates had already answered. 'Oh well,' thought Torie, 'Next time I guess.'
