A note magically appears on the door to the potions classroom: Quote:
Potions Lesson #1 will commence at noon on Thursday, December the 14th (EST)
An hour or so later... The door to the potions classroom clicks and swings open of it's own accord. A soft flickering light emanates from within, beckoning you inside where the desks are precisely lined up, the chairs neatly tucked in, and the stone floor gleaming. The professor's desk, unlike many others, was completely bare except for a sheet of parchment, quill, and ink which appeared to have been placed just so. | |

Cameron smiled in recognition of Zaza and Neva’s presence. However, she ripped her attention from her peers to that of the Professor.
Scintillation Solution…. She thought internally. No…she could not recall. To not sound like an idiot, she did not raise her hand instinctually. Cameron shook her head slowly.
She noticed a small piece of parchment being passed back and forth. She did not want points taken from her house, and so delivered an icy glare in the direction of both girls.

AJ thought about the hint, "It could protect you by if, for example you were being chased, it would blind the attacker and give you time to form a better mean of self defense or to flee to somewhere to hide, if you so feel the need." she offered smiling. she turned to the students talking, and since one was a slytherin, she glared and hissed at them, "for goodness sake be quiet! enough of that." she said simply and turned back to the lesson.

AJ thought, 'if it's a solution that means it's a liquid, and how would you activate that?' she wondered, and thought hard. an incantation maybe, but she doubted it. she wondered if maybe it had to have some special spell to go along with it.... it was all she could think of and raised her hand to speak, "i'm not sure if this is right, but do you have to perform some sort of special incantation to make the solution produce the flash?" she asked hesitantly and wrote down the effects of this potion on a peice of parchment:

Opposite of instant darkness powder

"I see we have some clever students in class. Very good ideas, though none of you quite got it completely correct. The potion is activated by forcefully splashing the potion on a hard surface. However, it does not need to be mixed. Most wizards find it most efficacious to place the solution in a vial which they can then throw when in need. However, one must be careful to fill the vial to the brim or excessive sloshing could also activate the potion."
Professor Branxton smiled at those who put forth the effort to guess and then, continued. "There are very few ingredients in the solution, but it does take a bit of care when brewing. Can anyone discern what ingredients are in the scintillation solution?"

Professor Branxton smiled and gave them a few more moments before deciding to step in and give them the rest of the ingredient list. "Excellent ideas but, I'm afraid none of those are correct either. The first ingredient is so simple that I'm sure you just did not think of it as being an ingredient: water. Water is the base of the potion to which we will add the other ingredients. The second ingredient is simple salt," he said, picking up a bowl which seemed to have just appeared from his desk. "The salt is what will actually emit the light."
Professor Branxton placed the bowl back on the desk and began to pace the front of the classroom. "The excitation of the potion is produced by billywig stings and we've already addressed the essence of firefly which aids in the production of light.
"Are there any questions before we proceed to brewing the Scintillation Solution?"
