Professor Blaylock sat at the front of the class, waiting for the students to file in and take a seat at each of the low round tables that surrounded the circular room in the tower. On each table sat 3 clear crystal balls, just waiting to be stared at by the students. She tapped her fingers on the table as she waited, wondering how today's lesson would go. It would be interesting, that was for sure...

OOC: Just settle in, do not chat. If I dissapear, it's only because my connection is shaky, so please dont spam my class asking where I am. Patience is very important with shaky connections...lol.

Dis, while still in a quasi-trance, pulled herself out of it when she heard the professor speak about pulling out textbooks. She blinked away her transitive state and pulled her Divination book from her bag. She opened it to the section on symbols and began to try and decipher what she had seen.

She picked up her quill and began to scribble on her parchment--

Dis was stuck she hadn't seen anything definitive in her crystal ball but only blurred visions of people that she couldn't tell she knew or not. She furrowed her brow and searched her textbook some more, hoping to find some answers.

Whende stared at the orb trying to think of nothing. But how can anyone think of nothing when it's their first day back in class? It sounded pretty impossible, and it was even more impossible when she put it into practice. Her mind was racing to fast to make it stop.

She closed her eyes, trying to picture a blank sheet of paper. It wasn't working out so well. With a groan, she rested her forehead in her palm and stared at the table-top instead.

Hmmm, Kerry thought to herself so it doesn't have to be just symbols it can be colors, as well. Interesting.

Raising her hand to be sure, Kerry asked "Professor the book says that it's possible to see colored clouds and that they have symbolism. Is this part of the symbols you were referring to, as well?"

Natasha shrugged lightly, "I hate to say it, dear...but every experience is different. Whenever I attempt Crystallomancy, the visions I see are more inside my head instead of inside the ball. It's...a matter of what you feel."

"Yes, that is it." She nodded and flipped a page of her book open, "Symbols may include anything at all. It may be colours, shapes, objects, actions..."

She wandered around the class, reading their noted over their shoulders, "You're all doing splendidly! We'll continue with this for a while more before we continue with the rest of the lesson."

Jacqui sat quietly in the corner of the room alone, staring into her crystal ball. She hadn't seen one thing since the start of the lesson and she felt she wasn't about to either. Frustrated, Jacqui sat up and sighed, burying her face in her hands Why couldn't she see anything? What was wrong?

Uh.huuuh....so umm clearly my mind back to that Thump said to himself taking his eyes back off of other students,the Prof. and her books. Staring deeply into the swirling mist Oooo man....i remmeber being hypnotized before at muggle school......please dont let it happen again...i dont wanna black out i dont wan and following the swirls of mist round and round Clear my mind...clear my mind...clear my...o dar.. and there sat Thump Nixon fast alseep.....

Trelane was rather impressed with himself. Taking a deep breath he tried again. If he started seeing more than the fire then he'd take it as a good sign.

Professor Blaylock walked up behind one errant Ravenclaw and thumped him on the back. "Perhaps a cup of coffee and 5 points off Ravenclaw would cure you of this drowsiness, Mr. Nixon."

She walked to the center of the circular room and surveyed the students, "Alright...I see some of you are getting frustrated at this point, and I dont blame you. It's difficult to get into a trance, and even worse when you're in a roomful of other people."

She flicked her wand and the shades that covered the windows lifted, filling the room with light once more. "Okay...back to the interesting part of the lesson, well...as interesting as trances and meaningless fog can get. There are other forms of divination similar to Crystallomancy. Can anybody name one?"

Lua rolled her eyes at the ball, it was impossible to read any of its contents. Maybe she did not have the inner eye?. She continued to gaze annoyingly at the crystal and wrote down a list of imaginative symbols.

Atmor raised her hand "Professor there is hydromancy. This is scrying by means of water and catoptromancy this is scrying by means of a mirror. Atmor had pre-read her book so she didnt have to look for the page with the names.

Trelane raised his hand. "Pyromancy, Professor. Reading the images seen in flame. Though there are some myths that also say one shouldn't look directly at a flame or it would anger the spirits trapped there and set them free."

Megan raised her hand, "Professor, there is hydromancy and scrying in which you use some form of still moving liquid to view visions. There is also pyromancy which is gazing at a fire to see visions. Is is usually best to use something bigger than a candle like a bonfire. My textbook also says that reading tea leaves or clouds follow the same pattern as crystal gazing.

"Excellent examples, both of you. Take 5 points each for...participation and preparation." Natasha smiled at the students, "And now...here's the tricky bit of this particular lesson...I expect an essay on either Crystallomancy, Hydromancy or Pyromancy as homework! I want you to take the next week and try out one of these methods and tell me what your results are, as in what you see. OR if you dodnt see anything, what could have prevented you from doing so."

She paused and smiled sympathetically at the students, it was going to be tough work...but she suspected that their imagination would come in extremely handy in this homework assignment.

"Take a crystal ball each, in case you want to use Crystallomancy as your homework piece. If anyone has any questions, I'm available for consultancy."

Megan wrote down the homework, packed up her things and took a crystal ball. "That was a great lesson, Professor! I can't wait for the next one!" she said as she walked out of the room and to the library to do her homework.

Sighing Athena wrote down the homework and grumbling to herself at the prospect of another try at the crystal ball began to gather up her belongings. "Maybe it will be better next time." SHe said to herself, not being the grumbling type as she made her way to the front to pick out a crystal ball to take with her. By the time she made it back to her seat, she was excited at the prospect of trying again with no one around her to bother her. Maybe she would try the room of Requirments that she had recently learned about .

Dis felt awkward walking out of the classroom with a large crystal ball in her arms. SHe figured that if she decided to write about crystallomancy, she would come back and fetch the crystal when she didn't have to juggle her bag as well. She threw her quill and parchment back into her bag, shouldered it and made her way around the cluster of students and out the door.

Jacqui scribbled down the homework on a piece of paper, packed up her things (including a crystal ball for her homework), and left the classroom, nodding a goodbye to the professor on her way.

Kerry took out her parchment and wrote down the last of the class notes for discussion and made sure not to forget to write down the homework assignment, as well. Packing up her bag, Kerry had to admit to herself that she relieved to have some time to quietly try the assignment on her own, as she had not had much success with it today.
Picking up the crystal ball and carefully handling it, Kerry smiled and said goodbye to the professor and walked out the door.

Sini wrote down the homework assignment and gathered up her things. She was excitied to be writing about what they went over in class today, she hoped that she would do a good job on the assignment. She puller her backpack onto her back and headed out of the classroom returning to her common room to begin the assignment.

Natasha Blaylock watched the students leave, all ready to go out and enjoy the rest of the day, and the weekend. Well, they would also be cursing her, that's for sure, for increasing their weekend workload.

Oh well, at least Divination homework means that their imagination will be put to good use, she was sure. Chuckling to herself, she blew out the remaining candles and locked the classroom door behind her.
