Evy raised her hand again. "I guess it depends on your ability. More experienced wizards will be able to summon objects over great distances, but first-years certainly won't."

Emily raised her hand to take a guess. "Well, it seems that, just like with any spell, the further away you are, the worse your results. It's hard to aim from 3 miles away for any spell, including Summoning."

Kerry raised her hand again, "Well, someone mentioned Harry Potter earlier summoning his broom from the Hogwart's grounds, so I would think you can cast over a fairly good distance."

"Well," said Caitlin, raising her hand. "If there is an object in the way, maybe what ever you're summoning cannot get to you. And, yes, you can summon an object from great distances, but you must know the location of it."

OOC: If I posted something similiar before, I'm sorry. Computer froze.

He heard someone say that first years can't summon great distances, and immediatly raised his hand and said, "The summoning charm must require great concentration for it to work. It may work by pointing at an object and say the pronouncation, or you can say the pronouncation with the item you are summoning." He said some of the information he knew about the charm.

"First, summoning a broom from the castle to the edge of the forrest is not a great distance. It is difficult but then Potter was a great wizard, wasn't he. Distance does matter. I cannot summoning a forgotten notebook from my old office at the bank. Hogwarts is to far away from the object. I cannot summon a crown I saw from a tomb in Eygpt. Distance is your enemy in summoning a object. Don't think you can summon your forgot cauldron from home if you didn't pack it." Tolkien explained. "Now begins our practical."

With that Jack flicked his wand and the door to the classroom opened. "I have placed cushions in the Great Hall on each house table. The cushion you need to summon is the primary color of your house. Green for Slytherin, Gold for Hufflepuff, Scarlet for Gryffindor and Blue for Ravenclaw. You, now need to form four lines according to house and practice the spell. The wand movement is a downward slash with a flick at the end. Begin when you are lined up."

OOC: Read this carefully! You are in the Charms Classroom and the cushions are in the Great Hall, you can not see them.

Emily got into line behind some of the other Hufflepuffs. She was NOT going to be first. She wanted to watch some older students try it first.

Vince lined up to practice the spell. He couldn't see the blue cushions, and did a stance to make sure he wouldn't fall or trip.

Kerry reluctantly lined up, she held back a bit though hoping somone would go in front of her. While she knew a lot about the spell, when it came to casting it, she was only a first year and wanted to see a more experienced housemate try the spell before she went.

Vince noticed he was first in line, so he got ready, and wanted to see the other kids do it, so he wouldn't make a mistake. He had never used the summoning charm except when he summons his harmonica. "Oh boy," he thought sadly in his mind.

Torie got in line, eager to practise her skills. Putting her wand at the ready position, she waited for the instructions to begin. She prayed that she would be able to summon the cushion, but she really didn't have much faith, considering how infrequently she used charms. When the Professor had given the instruction, she gave her wand a downward slash and then a quick flick before shouting the incantation: "Accio Gryffindor cushion!" she shouted loudly, hoping that the volume would help the cushion travel farther.

She waited. A soft thud could be heard out in the corridor, and she peered out the door anxiously. At the far end of the hallway, a small red pillow rested on the ground.

"Darn!" said Torie. With another slash and flick of her wand, she was able to get the cushion the rest of the way to the room. Dishearted, she moved to the back of the line so someone else could have a turn.

When no other Hufflepuffs went, Emily finally stepped up to cast the charm. She concentrated with all her might on golden cushions within the Great Hall. She closed her eyes and let the desire to get those cushions consume her. She felt it swelling within her, even out to her fingers and toes. With all her concentration, she cried "ACCIO CUSHION!"
She waited on tenterhooks. She strained her ears to hear the wooshing of a golden cushion. After 30 seconds, nothing had appeared. She resigned herself to the fact that the cushion might not be coming. It was her first try with the charm, after all.

Jack watched as the students lined up. Finally they were in four lines and the first person stepped forward from each line casted the charm. They waited their wands pointing at the door in hopes a cushion would come.

Sini joined the line where the other Gryffindors were gathering. She was reluctant to practice this charm, it sounded so difficult. She was willing to give it a shot though. Standing in line she began practicing the wand movements and thinking of what she had to do.

Seeing others reluctant, he stepped up first of his line and concentrated. "Accio green cushion!" He stood there waiting, hoping he'd gotten it right. After a while it was becoming obvious his spell had failed.

"Give the spell a moment to work then move to the back of the line. We may need to adjust the distance if you don't succeed after a few attempts."

"Ok.. this is just like summoning the elements.. Think like a swift water moving.." he whispered to himself. He got ready and concentrated of a blue cushion. He finally shouted, "ACCIO CUSHION!!" He closed his eyes and thought about a water rapidly moving. He combined his thought with a cushion rapidly moving.

Suddenly he heard a flying sound. A blue cushion went straight at the room. It was moving so fast, he immediatly ducked and headed straight for the professor. "Professor, look out!" Vince yelled. He had always ducked when he summoned his harmonica, as it went straight at him. "I should get used to cushions.." he thought in his mind.

Kerry was nervous as she got to the front of the line, but seeing classmates around her not being successful with the spelll reassured her it was ok to fail at things.

She took a deep breath and pictured what she thought the cushion looked like in her head. Careful to say the spell correctly, Kerry called out with as much confidence as she could muster, "Accio Scarlet Cushion" and stood there with her eyes closed picturing the cushion in her head, as she hoped it was flying towards her.

As she stood there awhile, she realized that she too, had failed. She did wonder how far if at all the cushion had made it though.

"Accio Cushion!" Caitlin tried, but to no avail. It just wouldn't work for her. Not being able to picture what she was tring to summon wasn't working in her favor at all.

She stepped back to let the next person try, hoping to pick up some tips from them.

Jack had his back to the Ravenclaw line when he heard his name shouted from it. He turned and was suddenly hit square in his stomach with a blue cushion. He landed on his bottom and immediately broke out laughing. "Well done, 5 points for being the first one to perform the spell." He said between laughs.

Emily was ready for another try. She hoped that she would be able to work the charm on her second chance. Again, she pictured the golden Hufflepuff cushion. She cried "Accio Hufflepuff cushion!"

She was confident it would work this time. Whether it was from practice or confidence Emily didn't know, but a woosh preceded a golden cushion into the classroom. Filled with exhiliration, she stepped to the back of the line.

"Professor, are you alright?" asked Emily. She had turned around just in time to notice him being pummelled by a blue cushion.

Vince saw the cushion hit the professor's stomach, and whispered to himself, "Oh dear.." He got at the back of the line so other people could get a turn.

Sini got to the front of the line and concentrated on the object she was trying to summon. "Picture the cushion, be the cushion", she said to herself. Then she put out her wand and completed the motions, a downward slash with a flick at the end, while stating, "Accio Scarlet Cushion". She stayed where she was, hoping the cushion would apprear, but nothing seemed to happen. She just needed to practice more. She would get it right one of these times.

It was finally Nikki's turn in the line. She was really nervous but seemed to be calming down after a few deep breaths. Nikki pictured the blue cushion in her head for quite awhile. Finally another another breath she said "ACCIO BLUE CUSHION!!" Nikki was surprised to see the cushion suddly zooming right at her. She caught it but also had the wind knocked out of her. "I guess i need to practice my control' Nikki said.
